“Plop.”
It was a simple, muffled sound. A few sparks sputtered, and Lan Tian was submerged and covered by the scalding lava, disappearing without a trace.
Yu Shengyan stared blankly in that direction, his hand still frozen in the pose of holding Lan Tian’s collar. There was no screaming, no sobbing… he had just let him die so easily.
He stared for a long time. The person who had harmed his sister was dead. He should have felt joyful, but instead, he felt only a surge of fury and unwillingness. With a deep breath and a look of lingering resentment, he snorted coldly, his face dark as he flew away on his sword.
At that exact moment, Lan Tian, who had been swallowed by the lava, slowly floated back up. If anyone had been watching closely, they might have noticed he was softly snoring. That’s right he had fallen asleep in the lava.
Due to Little Meng Meng’s settings, he felt as though he were merely lying in a bathhouse; the molten liquid couldn’t touch his eyes, ears, mouth, or nose. When he finally woke up, he was startled.
“Ah!”
Gazing at the fiery red expanse, he swallowed hard. What was he thinking? He was thinking about hot pot.
Little Meng Meng: [Congratulations, my lord! You have perfectly completed the first task. The protagonist’s Hate Points are now at 2,000. You are amazing!]
Lan Tian only remembered that Little Meng Meng had helped him. Without checking the message carefully, he swam to the shore and leaned his back against the volcano wall, finally giving himself a moment to think.
The group chat reappeared in his mind.
Little Branch NPC: [Finally done! Congratulations! Although it will get even harder from here, hahaha.] Main Plot Boss: [Despite saying that, I still want to ask: Senior, please guide me!] Spicy Main Plot: [Cut it out, Boss. You have the most screen time, so you’ll definitely be the last to die. We should be the ones asking for guidance.]
Lan Tian tried to chime in: Main Plot Villain: [What are you all talking about? Why can’t I understand a single word?] Main Plot Boss: [Wait, the Admin will brief you in a moment.]
Little Meng Meng: [I’m here! My lord, you are currently participating in a ‘Real-Life Transmigration Activity.’ This world has three types of people: Actors, NPCs, and Locals. Your current identity is that of a Villain Actor, and your physical state has been transformed into a Demon. Your main task is to serve as a foil to highlight the protagonist’s heroic aura. Once the task is finished, you will receive a substantial cash reward.]
As she spoke, a long progress bar appeared. It wasn’t full—it was only about one-third filled, with the number ‘2,000’ displayed, while the maximum was 10,000.
Little Meng Meng continued: [This records the protagonist’s Hate Points, which will provide a bonus for completing the final task.]
Lan Tian finally understood. He thought about the protagonist—who was so terrifying that he had tried to kill him—and wondered, is 2,000 points really so low?
He asked Little Meng Meng why the protagonist wanted to kill him. Little Meng Meng transmitted a memory to him. In the memory, from the protagonist’s perspective, he had a sister he cared for deeply who also trained at the Wangxian Gate. However, she had been infatuated with the “Senior Brother” to the point of obsession. One day, the protagonist went to find the Senior Brother…
The Senior Brother’s room was in chaos. Intrigued, he stepped inside and saw his sister lying on the floor, covered in blood. He rushed to her side and realized her entire body looked as if it had been scorched by fire; she was bright red, with not a single patch of skin left intact.
“You killed her?!” Yu Shengyan had shouted at Lan Tian, his eyes red with fury.
Lan Tian had merely glanced at him indifferently, not responding, and sat back on his bed after sheathing his sword. When the other disciples heard the commotion, they rushed in and screamed at the sight. The Second Senior Brother, Yu Qiu, also entered, but he only gave the girl’s body a look of surprise before quietly walking over to Lan Tian’s side. Lan Tian looked at him with a complex expression, and Yu Qiu’s face turned grim.
Later, the Senior Brother was taken to prison but released after only a few days because there was no direct evidence to prove he had committed murder. Yu Shengyan was unconvinced, but as a mere outer-courtyard disciple, no one listened to him. Someone told him that even if the Senior Brother did it, his sister was probably asking for it—why else would she be in the Senior Brother’s room? When Yu Shengyan argued back, his words fell on deaf ears; instead, he was kicked to the ground and beaten for his trouble.
After watching the memory, Lan Tian broke into a cold sweat. Was I really that evil? Then Yu Shengyan was perfectly justified in trying to kill him.
Main Plot Boss: [Little Villain, a piece of advice: Never only look at the information Little Meng Meng gives you. She likes to play tricks; the info she provides is one-sided and usually hides a secret. You have to discover the truth on your own.] Little Transparent NPC: [Little Meng Meng, quickly…] Spicy Main Plot: [Let me interpret: Little Transparent means ‘hurry up and release the next task.’ Don’t mind her, she’s not very bright.] Little Transparent NPC: [You are the one who…]
The Little Transparent NPC didn’t finish. Lan Tian thought… this person must be shy or quiet.
Little Meng Meng: [The piping-hot task is here! My lord, your current mission is to disguise yourself, sneak into the protagonist’s academy team, cause chaos, slaughter the competition, and then be taken down by the protagonist to highlight his uniqueness.]
Main Plot Boss: [Slaughter? Can we take advantage of the chaos to get our turn? (Look at my shining eyes)] Little Branch NPC: [It won’t be your turn. If anyone is getting killed, it should be me or the Little Transparent. Please kill me, kill me!] Spicy Main Plot: [I want in on the slaughter too.] Lan Tian: [Wait, you want me to kill people?] Little Meng Meng: [That’s right.] Lan Tian: [No way. I don’t know how to kill, and I won’t do it!]
The group fell into an awkward, sudden silence.
Main Plot Boss: [I know this is sudden, but it isn’t real killing. Our ultimate task is to be killed by the Villain, so once we die, we return directly to the real world.] Lan Tian: [No, no. I can’t kill. I don’t want to kill.]
No matter what they said, Lan Tian refused to kill, even knowing the world was fake.
Little Meng Meng: [A reminder to everyone: each person can only fill their required ‘Protagonist Value’ once they are killed; only then is the mission considered complete.] Spicy Main Plot: [I wondered why things were so generous that even the Villain got an actor. Turns out, the difficulty was bumped up…] Main Plot Boss: [1] Little Transparent NPC: [+1] Little Branch NPC: [Hahaha, well, I’m almost full, so this should finish it for me.] Main Plot Boss: [I want to kick you to death…] Little Branch NPC: [Little Villain, I’ll take care of you this time. I have an academy mission too.] Spicy Main Plot: [Ah, so envious. It’ll take me a while longer…] Lan Tian: […But I don’t kill.] Little Branch NPC: […] Main Plot Boss: [Little Villain, good job!] Little Branch NPC: [Fine, fine, let’s just do the mission.]
Three days later…
On a high mountain, a man with a bird’s nest for hair, covered in grass and wearing tattered clothes, struggled to climb up.
The mountain was shrouded in clouds and mist. Vaguely, one could see a man radiating an immortal air, leisurely fanning himself, dressed in deep blue robes. Just by looking at his elegant posture, one could tell he was surely handsome.
Lan Tian couldn’t help but look at himself in comparison, sighing and calling out from a distance, “Little Branch~”
The immortal turned around, smiling politely and elegantly, closing his fan and tucking it into his sleeve. In the next heartbeat, whoosh, he appeared right in front of Lan Tian.
A face that completely contradicted his elegant build appeared before his eyes. Lan Tian screamed in terror and almost fell off the mountain.
Little Branch didn’t seem to care. He laughed, leaning in close, and asked, “Oh, Little Villain, what do you think of my face?”
Lan Tian looked at the face: the eyes were so small they were barely visible, the nose occupied two-thirds of the face, there was a pair of giant sausage lips, the skin was pockmarked, and there was a terrifying scar running down his cheek.
His brain instinctively thought: Unbelievably ugly. But he thought better of saying it. He swallowed and forced a fake smile, “It’s, it’s okay.”
He froze. Feeling like his expression had betrayed him, he wiped his face and then put on a very sincere smile. His eyes curved like crescents, and the shadows of his lashes fell beneath them. Most importantly, his open, gentle smile was the kind that could instantly improve anyone’s mood.
“Actually, I’m face-blind.”
Little Branch froze for a moment, then hid his face behind his fan, his eyes filled with intense interest.
“Little Villain, who are you? Where are you from? Are you in school? Do you have a girlfriend?”
Lan Tian was at a loss for words. He looked at himself and scratched his head.
“Are you asking about right now, or…” “Of course about reality!” Little Branch said casually. “Reality… I’m just an ordinary university student…”
Lan Tian felt a bit ashamed to say it. His family situation was poor, his mother was ill, and he could only attend a third-rate university close to home. Sensing his embarrassment, Little Branch quickly changed the subject.
“I see. Let me tell you, don’t look at me being so ugly now; in reality, I’m actually very handsome.”
He blinked his eyes as he spoke, his eyes shimmering like stars. Lan Tian noticed that although his face was a wreck, his eyes were genuinely beautiful—a pair of phoenix-like fox eyes, with a beauty mark near the corner of one.
“Right, don’t get distracted. We’re here to do the mission. Let me introduce myself: I am the protagonist’s best friend, Han Nankan!”
Lan Tian said, “Alright then. I’m Lan Tian. I’m the Villain, I suppose you could say I’m the protagonist’s enemy.”
Han Nankan looked him up and down, then slowly said, “I have never seen a Villain who… looks this miserable.”
Lan Tian blushed, looking at his bird’s nest hair, “You told me to come over quickly! I came right after finishing that initial mission.”
