Yuanshan Apartments
Jiang Mingyue went to the master bedroom’s bathroom to tidy up her appearance, splashing her face with cold water to try and dispel the lingering sense of dizziness.
In the living room, only Lu Lingzhi and Xie Fuyun remained. The atmosphere was stagnant.
Lu Lingzhi slammed an unopened bottle of mineral water onto the coffee table in front of Xie Fuyun. Her eyes were icy as she issued a blunt eviction notice: “Drink your water and get out.”
She didn’t want this person appearing in the life she shared with Jiang Mingyue.
Xie Fuyun acted as if she didn’t feel the bone-chilling coldness. She slowly unscrewed the cap and took a small sip. Then, she picked up several of Lu Lingzhi’s textbooks lying nearby, flipped open Principles of Economics, and handed it to Lu Lingzhi.
Lu Lingzhi frowned, confused.
On the blank spaces of the pages, the book was filled with neat, elegant handwriting. Key points were highlighted, the logic was clear, and a printed classroom quiz was tucked inside, complete with detailed step by step solutions.
“I’ve marked the key points from today’s lecture and took notes for you.” Xie Fuyun’s voice was calm and flat, like she was reporting on work. “Do this quiz today and send a photo to my WeChat. I’ll check it before 9 PM tonight.”
Lu Lingzhi looked at the notes and the quiz, then at Xie Fuyun’s expressionless face. A sense of absurdity washed over her. It felt exactly like a cold-blooded boss assigning KPIs to a novice subordinate.
She couldn’t help but ask: “Xie Fuyun, do you even know what our relationship is?”
She asked cryptically.
Xie Fuyun looked up. Behind her lenses, a flash of realization flickered through her eyes, as if saying: So you know. The corner of her mouth seemed to twitch upward ever so slightly, so fast it might have been an illusion.
At that moment, the sound of running water in the master bathroom stopped. The sound of the doorknob turning could be heard clearly.
The slight resentment in Xie Fuyun’s eyes smoothed over instantly. Instead of answering the question, she teased, her lips curling into a faint, playful arc: “Otherwise?”
The words sounded like they made sense, but also felt wrong. Her subtext seemed to be: If not for this relationship, who would care if you studied? Whether you learn or not is up to you.
Lu Lingzhi was instantly enraged by those light words. She definitely knew.
Looking at the other woman’s expression of “your grades are bad and I’m disgusted by it,” Lu Lingzhi held it in for a long time before finally bursting out: “Since you despise me so much, who wants you to be my godmother?”
“Come, call me ‘Little Mom’.”
Looking at Xie Fuyun’s age defying face, she was in her thirties but looked like she was in her twenties if Lu Lingzhi hadn’t been in a daze that day and if Xie Fuyun hadn’t been wearing a mask, how could she have failed to recognize this face?
“Xie Fuyun, what exactly do you want? Does my academic performance have anything to do with you? I’m a wealthy person with a sister as an heir, my family is harmonious. If I study hard, will I leave any room for others? I’m doing just fine like this.”
The playfulness on Xie Fuyun’s face vanished instantly.
She reached up and gently took off her silver-rimmed glasses.
The eyes behind the lenses were fully revealed, they were narrow, slightly upturned “peach blossom” eyes. Without the glasses, they lost some scholarly air and gained a sharp, bottomless darkness.
She folded her arms and slowly stood up.
As Xie Fuyun stood at her full height, those eyes became devoid of emotion. An invisible desire for control and the aura of an Alpha spread out like a tide.
A top-tier Alpha’s pheromone suppression overwhelmed the A-level Omega’s pheromones.
Xie Fuyun’s eyes suddenly changed. They turned a deep azure blue, glowing with a dark, eerie light.
Lu Lingzhi subconsciously held her breath, she felt the surrounding air grow thin. Being in the sensitive period of secondary differentiation, she felt a dull ache at her scent gland.
Xie Fuyun sensed it instantly. Her aura retracted slightly, but the sense of control remained. “Lu Lingzhi.”
Being called by her full name made Lu Lingzhi shiver. Her momentum weakened significantly as she reacted defensively: “What are you going to do?”
“You’d better listen to me, otherwise…” Xie Fuyun’s gaze shifted toward the master bedroom. Lu Lingzhi immediately became alert: “What are you going to do to Jiang Mingyue?”
Look at how nervous she is, Xie Fuyun thought. I haven’t said or done anything yet, and she’s this worried.
Xie Fuyun withdrew her gaze and looked at Lu Lingzhi’s bright face. After a moment, she crossed her arms, tapping her elbow lightly with one hand, smiling leisurely. “I’ll leak it to the media. On the night of your coming of age ceremony, Jiang Mingzhao put hallucinogens in your milk, causing you to hallucinate and recall your sister’s ‘secret’.”
“And you only told that ‘secret’ to Jiang Mingyue. In your panic and anger, you tore up Jiang Mingyue’s admission letter. Jiang Mingzhao took the opportunity to brawl with you, and you scratched his neck. Jiang Mingyue arrived later to break up the fight, but accidentally pushed you, causing you to hit your head on the table and bleed. Then your sister arrived.”
Every word felt like it was summoning the humiliating scene of that day. Lu Lingzhi’s whole body tensed, her breathing heavy.
“You love your sister so much, and she dotes on you just as much. You were unconscious then, and when you woke up and your sister asked what happened, you just stayed silent. Your sister had no choice, but she was certain your grievance was related to the Jiang siblings, which is why she permanently suspended cooperation with Jiang Group hotels.”
“You know that if this gets out, it doesn’t matter if Jiang Mingzhao ends up ruined. If he decides to burn everyone down with him, your sister’s and Jiang Mingyue’s reputations will be destroyed. And if your sister finds out you told the secret to Jiang Mingyue, and Jiang Mingyue told her secret to Jiang Mingzhao, your relationship with your sister will surely crack. You will lose your sister forever.”
Lu Lingzhi: “…What do you want?”
“I respect your choice.” Xie Fuyun took another step forward, her lips curling back into that playful smile. She pointed at the Principles of Economics open on the coffee table, speaking in the tone of an elder: “Can you focus on school? Be a good girl and listen to me during these four years of university.”
Lu Lingzhi: “…”
“Little friend, before you have the strength, don’t be so stubborn. I am your godmother of course, I am on your side.” Xie Fuyun sometimes really wanted to see what was inside this brat’s head. Is it that hard to listen to me? Can’t there be some trust between people? I just got off a plane and heard you were in the hospital. I’ve been your substitute teacher and driver, and I haven’t even gone home yet. Can’t you show me some sympathy?
Lu Lingzhi: …She’s actually using my sister to threaten me. How is she any different from that damn Jiang Mingzhao? I won’t listen to you. I have 100,000 yuan in hand.
[System: Mama, Mama, please stop talking. You don’t know… look at your texts quickly.]
Xie Fuyun pulled out her trump card: “I also know you have 100,000. I’ve already frozen it.”
[Respected SVVIP Customer: The balance in your card has been frozen. To unsubscribe, press TD.]
Lu Lingzhi’s heart was bleeding. She pointed at her: “…You big villain, you just wait.”
“Thanks for the compliment.” Xie Fuyun was very satisfied seeing her jump in anger. She retracted the azure glow, her eyes returning to pure black. She countered: “Then I’m still your mom. You’re just a ‘noob’ little villain who loves to play but can’t win.”
“You want me to call you that? Look at this face, it looks like it’s in its twenties. It doesn’t count if I don’t kowtow.”
“The year you were born, your whole family pressed your little head down to kowtow to me ‘bang bang bang’. I even have video evidence. Ultimately, your household registration is under my account.”
Just then, the master bedroom door opened fully. Jiang Mingyue walked out, drying her damp hands. She looked a bit more refreshed. She immediately saw the two people in the living room in a strange standoff. Xie Fuyun was drinking water, and Lu Lingzhi looked miserable.
Lu’s “Second Young Miss” personality, wearing her heart on her sleeve, was truly easy to read at a glance.
Jiang Mingyue said nothing. She turned toward the open kitchen, took out some fresh, plump cherries delivered by the hotel that morning, and placed them on an exquisite bone china plate.
The moment Jiang Mingyue appeared, the oppressive aura around Xie Fuyun vanished like a receding tide. She picked up the Principles of Economics book, a gentle, spring breeze like smile on her face, and walked toward Jiang Mingyue.
“Student Jiang, these are the notes I took for Student Lu. Is this kind of note okay?” She flipped the book to the notes page, her voice gentle and slightly bashful. “I’m not sure if they’re suitable?”
“They’re perfect. Miss Xie, these notes are amazing.” Jiang Mingyue looked up at Xie Fuyun, her eyes earnest. “Could you help me make mine like this too?”
Lu Lingzhi glared fiercely at Xie Fuyun. She hated this high and mighty feeling of being ordered around. Xie Fuyun had two different faces for her and Jiang Mingyue, hypocritical and fake.
Using the “loop” to bully her… Got it.
A brilliant, mischievous idea flashed through her mind. You’re dead, Xie Fuyun.
A glint of cunning flashed in Lu Lingzhi’s eyes. With a slight movement of her will:
Xie Fuyun immediately nodded, her smile obedient and reliable: “Okay—no—pro—blem—it’s—just—a—small—fa—vor.” She paused, her tone carrying a bit of apology, “Her—eco—nomics—tea—cher—cal—led—on—me—a—few—times—and—has—a—deep—im—pres—sion—of—me.”
The smile on Xie Fuyun’s face finally showed a hint of imperceptible stiffness. She frowned slightly in confusion, her gaze instinctively sweeping over to Lu Lingzhi, who was still lying on the sofa. She read Lu Lingzhi’s lips: What are you going to do about it?
Xie Fuyun understood instantly. It was her doing. Lu’s Second Miss always sought revenge.
Xie Fuyun said through gritted teeth: “To—day—I—as—signed—a—quiz—you—should—su—per—vise—her—too.”
Jiang Mingyue: “…”
Why is Xie Fuyun speaking at 0.5x speed?
Could Lu Lingzhi have done it? Impossible. Lu is usually quite generous, she wouldn’t be so petty over a quiz or being a class rep. It’s probably some “crazy” person causing trouble again now that the work week has started. Is this some new trick? I wonder when it will end. Poor Miss Xie.
[System: Xie Fuyun’s favorability toward Lu Lingzhi has decreased by 20 points.]
Seeing Xie Fuyun trying to maintain her dignity while her speech speed was frantic (ly slow), Jiang Mingyue couldn’t bear it and quickly said, “Miss Xie, are you feeling unwell? Let’s forget the notes; I’ll ask someone else for help. You’ve been put through so much trouble today.”
“No—trou—ble.” Xie Fuyun tried to speed up, but to no avail, she was still slow. She felt her face was going to freeze from smiling, and in her heart, she cursed Lu Lingzhi a hundred times.
Seeing Xie Fuyun suffer, Lu Lingzhi felt refreshed. As expected, with “Tongtong” (the system), everything was beautiful. She said happily, “Thank you, Miss Xie.”
Looking at Lu Lingzhi’s smug face and hearing that pointed “thank you,” Xie Fuyun was so angry she almost lost her composure. She resisted the urge to throw the book. This was clearly personal. “You’re—wel—come. I—hope—you—are—this—hap—py—eve—ry—sin—gle—day.”
Seeing this villain in this state, Lu Lingzhi wasn’t so angry anymore.
Xie Fuyun grabbed a cherry on her way out. The door closed with a “bang” quite forcefully.
In the living room, only Jiang Mingyue and the vengeful-looking Lu Lingzhi remained.
Jiang Mingyue sat down beside Lu Lingzhi with the plate of cherries, looking at her suspiciously. “Lu Lingzhi, what was wrong with Miss Xie just now? Was it your doing?”
“How could it be?” Lu Lingzhi denied immediately, blinking her innocent big eyes. “Maybe she was just too nervous.” She picked up a cherry and popped it into her mouth. The juice was sweet, and her mood was wonderful.
Jiang Mingyue was skeptical, she felt something was wrong. But seeing Lu Lingzhi’s “I don’t know anything” innocent look, she couldn’t find any proof. She sighed and turned her attention back to business: “Finish the cherries, then we’re going to the hospital.”
Lu Lingzhi: “I have a question for you.”
Jiang Mingyue: “What?”
Looking at that cold, beautiful face, Lu Lingzhi thought about how Jiang Mingyue said she had an Alpha she liked. Although she was curious who it was, she then thought: Didn’t Jiang Mingyue say she’d tell me if she were in a relationship? So that “Alpha” must just be a shield.
But what if there really was one? Although Jiang Mingyue said she’d still be responsible for her meals, if she had an Alpha, she’d have to keep her distance. She wouldn’t be able to stay here on weekends or play with Suisui.
She hugged a pillow, glaring resentfully at Jiang Mingyue. Her gaze landed on the cherry pyramid. I ate one, so why is there one missing? The top one had been taken by Xie Fuyun. Of course, there was no deep meaning, but the Second Miss had a habit of having fruit stacked in a pyramid, it was her OCD. Having one taken made her very unhappy.
Xie Fuyun is a truly annoying Alpha. And the way she looks at Jiang Mingyue with such “sincerity” is so shameless.
Speaking of Alphas, Jian Cheng was also shameless enough to use pheromones to bully Jiang Mingyue. Gave him too much face. I should teach him a lesson.
Jiang Mingyue waited for a long time without Lu Lingzhi speaking. She asked curiously, “What did you want to ask?”
“Stay away from Xie Fuyun. And Jian Cheng is even worse.” I can see it now, the Alphas who like Jiang Mingyue span all ages and are all more or less perverted. “If you date, you must be careful. I’ll help you vet them.”
Beijing General Hospital
The doctor was the same as before. She looked at the check-up report. “Miss Lu, I’m sorry to inform you… you are about to differentiate into an Alpha. Your level will be A-level or higher.”
What? I’m going to be an Alpha? In that case, I won’t have to fear the big villain!
“Really?!” Lu Lingzhi jumped up from her chair, grabbed the report, and her eyes scanned the dense data and the final conclusion. In black and white, it clearly stated: [Secondary Differentiation Active Phase, expected to differentiate into Alpha (A-level or above, S-level, Top-tier)].
“WAHOO!!!” A cheer of pure liberation and ecstasy burst uncontrollably from her lips, sounding exceptionally abrupt in the quiet consultation room.
The doctor was left a bit dazed by her overly positive reaction, his hand pausing as he went to adjust his glasses.
Sure enough, now that the System is back, everyone has become wonderful.
In the end, this world still loves me.
She couldn’t wait to pull out her phone and tap on the chat box for [The Big Villain Xie Fuyun]. Her fingers flew across the screen as she sent a message with the swagger and arrogance of a victor:
[Arrogant Lu Lingzhi]: Xie Fuyun, I’m giving you a chance at redemption. Give me 30,000 yuan a month for living expenses, and I’ll agree to let you be my “Little Mom.”
