- Chapter 3 - Nan Yi is Targeted
Nan Yi offered a sweet smile.
He used sign language: “Thank you.”
The housekeeper smiled back, his expression kind. “I understood that gesture. You are very welcome; it is what I should do.”
It had been a long time since Nan Yi felt this comfortable around someone, and he found that he liked this housekeeper.
After showering and changing into clean clothes, Nan Yi dragged his slightly sore legs to the dining table. Since He Yushen had decided to keep him, he would just have to make the best of the situation. He had always been an invisible person regardless of where he was, so it did not matter much to Nan Yi whether he stayed at the Nan family home or the He residence.
“Mr. Nan, please enjoy your breakfast.” The housekeeper thoughtfully pulled out a chair for him.
Nan Yi felt a bit overwhelmed by the gesture and quickly used sign language to express his thanks again.
“So he is a mute!”
A delicate-looking young man sitting nearby spoke with a tone of disdain. Nan Yi was accustomed to this tone, so he merely glanced at the boy who was roughly his own age. He felt no anger, only curiosity about who the boy was.
“Xiao Jing!” The housekeeper frowned and gave a soft, reprimanding whisper.
“Oh, I know!” The boy frowned unhappily. Before Nan Yi even picked up his chopsticks, the boy had already started eating.
“How could you…” The housekeeper looked worried, but he only managed to say half of his reprimand.
Nan Yi picked up his own chopsticks and began to eat, chewing slowly and thoroughly. In contrast, the boy opposite him ate somewhat rudely. The boy glanced at the refined Nan Yi and deliberately blocked Nan Yi’s attempt to pick up a piece of chicken with his own chopsticks. “Brother Deep isn’t even here. Who are you putting on an act for?”
Even though he was used to being treated with hostility, Nan Yi still felt his face turn pale. He looked up at the delicate boy, truly unable to understand why he held such deep animosity toward him.
The person called Xiao Jing cast a contemptuous look at Nan Yi, put down his bowl and chopsticks, grabbed his school bag, and turned to leave. Nan Yi stared at the boy’s retreating figure for a long time. Once he collected himself and turned back to his meal, the housekeeper, who had stepped away for a moment, walked back in.
Nan Yi looked at the kind housekeeper and took out his phone to type. Each character he typed was accompanied by a small frog croaking sound; Nan Yi liked that sound.
[Who was that young man earlier?] He handed the phone to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper paused for a moment. “That is my son, Song Jing.” He looked distressed. “I have spoiled him.”
Nan Yi was taken aback. He had assumed the Omega youth was He Yushen’s lover or perhaps a cousin; he had not expected him to be merely the housekeeper’s son.
“Xiao Jing always speaks without thinking. I am truly sorry, Mr. Nan. If this happens again, I will be sure to discipline him properly.” The housekeeper bowed to Nan Yi, who hurriedly stood up to support him.
[There is no need to apologize. Children at that age are often a bit rebellious. It will pass in a year or two.]
“I just worry he will lose sight of himself.” The housekeeper still looked worried.
Nan Yi did not know how to comfort people, so he changed the subject.
[May I go out for a walk?]
Although He Yushen had kept him, he had not mentioned whether Nan Yi was allowed to leave. Furthermore, his heat cycle last night had been so sudden that Nan Yi was worried something might be wrong with his health, and he wanted to go to the hospital for a check-up.
“Of course you may, Mr. Nan. Since you have married Young Master He, you should naturally consider this place your home,” the housekeeper said with a smile. Nan Yi’s mood did not change much, but he was happy that he could go out freely.
“However, if you are going out, please let me know beforehand,” the housekeeper added respectfully.
Nan Yi, who had already sat down at the dining table, looked back in confusion before pulling out his phone to type quickly.
[Do I need to tell He Yushen?]
Nan Yi frowned in confusion. When he was at the Nan family home, he was rarely given the opportunity to go out because his parents and brother, Nan Zhi, despised him for being a low-quality Omega who could not speak, fearing he would only cause trouble. During school holidays, he was expected to stay home all day. Nan Yi never cared, however, because he preferred the quiet. Thus, he subconsciously assumed that He Yushen would also be ashamed of him and forbid him from going out.
“No, Mr. Nan. You may not have noticed when you arrived yesterday, but because the villa where Mr. He lives is quite far from the city center, it is very difficult to catch a taxi. If you wish to go out, I will notify a driver in advance to take you.”
Nan Yi nodded slowly; this was not what he had expected.
[Then please trouble yourself to arrange a driver to take me out.]
Nan Yi did not mention he was going to the hospital.
“Very well, Mr. Nan. The driver is always available.”
Nan Yi raised his hands in front of his chest, pressed his fingers together, and gave a thumbs-up. The housekeeper smiled happily.
“Please enjoy your breakfast, Mr. Nan, before it gets cold.”
Nan Yi nodded again.
After finishing his meal, Nan Yi worried about his pajamas; he certainly could not go to the hospital in them. The housekeeper sensed his concern and approached him, saying, “Mr. Nan, you could check if any of the Young Master’s clothes fit you.” The housekeeper then frowned as he assessed Nan Yi’s slender frame. “Or, you could wear some of Xiao Jing’s clothes for now. You two are of similar build.”
Nan Yi did not look for He Yushen’s clothes, opting instead to ask the housekeeper for a set of Song Jing’s casual wear.
“Please come upstairs with me.”
Nan Yi followed the housekeeper upstairs. He was surprised to find that Song Jing lived on the second floor of the villa and that his room was quite large. Nan Yi was astonished to see a closet full of expensive clothes. He thought to himself that He Yushen seemed to treat Song Jing very well.
“Mr. Nan, please take whichever piece you find suitable. I will wait for you outside.” After leaving the room, the housekeeper thoughtfully closed the door.
The colors of the clothes in the wardrobe were far too vibrant. Unlike most Omegas, Nan Yi preferred muted colors, such as black. There was only one black T-shirt in Song Jing’s closet, so Nan Yi chose that. As for the pants, he opted for a pair of military green shorts. Nan Yi did not touch Song Jing’s shoes; he already felt it was impolite to wear someone else’s clothes, so he decided against borrowing shoes as well.
Song Jing had many pairs of shoes, all designer brands. Nan Yi stood in front of the shoe rack and felt a brief moment of envy.
It was not until he was in the car that Nan Yi properly observed the scenery. He Yushen’s villa was located halfway up a mountain. As the car drove away, he kept his eyes on the European-style building. Do all wealthy people enjoy living on mountains? Nan Yi wondered, lost in thought as the scenery drifted by.
“Mr. Nan, where to?” After a long drive, the driver turned his head slightly to ask.
Nan Yi hurried to type on his phone. Fortunately, the housekeeper had informed the driver of Nan Yi’s situation, so the driver remained patient and pulled the car into a parking space.
[To the nearby hospital.] Nan Yi had just typed this when he glanced out the window and saw a building across the street. A hospital. He quickly added a sentence below the text on his memo app.
[I see the hospital right across the street; I will just walk over.]
The driver looked at the phone held out to him. “Let me take you over, Mr. Nan.”
Nan Yi shook his head.
[I suffer from motion sickness, so I would prefer to walk. You may go explore for a while.]
[There is no need to wait for me here. I will send you a text message when I am ready to leave.]
“Very well, Mr. Nan.”
