- Chapter 25 - Coaxed with Just a Few Words
“You claim to be afraid of losing me while simultaneously doing things that hurt me. Your methods are extreme. I am a normal person, and I cannot understand your abnormal behavior.” Ling Luo turned her face away, her long, thick lashes casting shadows that hid the expression in her eyes.
A sense of detachment radiated from her, as if she truly intended to leave him.
Feeling deeply insecure, Di Yu pulled her into his arms with a sense of helplessness. He gently stroked her head and spoke in a soft, low voice. “Luo Luo, I am sorry. My actions were too radical. Please, forgive me.”
“I can forgive you, but from now on, you must ask me before you do anything. In short, you cannot act first and report later. No matter what the issue is, you must communicate with me. Do you understand?” Ling Luo shifted her full weight onto him.
She truly felt miserable; every movement was agonizing, and it would likely take five or six days to recover.
Ling Luo lifted her head and bit his neck hard, leaving behind a clear tooth mark. As the pain flared, Di Yu’s prominent Adam’s apple bobbed with restraint, and he pressed his forehead against hers.
“I will listen to you from now on, as long as you do not abandon me, Luo Luo.”
“I am so tired and uncomfortable. Put me down. I do not want to move; I just want to lie down,” Ling Luo said in a soft, coaxing voice.
Di Yu was completely defenseless against this side of her; his heart felt as though it were melting into water. Without Di Yu causing further trouble, Ling Luo was finally able to lie quietly in bed.
The System chimed in: [666!]
Ling Luo sighed. “Sigh, this is so painful.”
The System rubbed its hands together. [You are truly impressive. With just a few words, you made the villain panic. He is terrified of being abandoned by you. He is so lovesick and deeply devoted.]
“I should have been able to get closer to the male lead yesterday. If Di Yu had not suddenly appeared, the male lead’s favorability would be over 70 by now,” Ling Luo said, feeling the sting of the missed opportunity.
[I thought of a way to stall the villain.]
“What way?”
[If I create a doll that shares a sensory link with the villain, you can squeeze it whenever he is about to appear in front of you and the male lead. If he feels unwell, he will not be able to stop you.]
“A sensory doll? How do you make that? What are the requirements?”
[Give me seven days. I can make it very quickly.] The System let out a mischievous chuckle.
“Hurry up then,” Ling Luo urged.
The System did not reply. It seemed its initiative was strong, and it had immediately set off to complete the task.
One minute later, Ling Luo fell asleep.
Di Yu showered and returned to the room. The woman on the large black bed had skin as white as snow, and her long hair was spread haphazardly across the pillow. Her exquisite and captivating face lost all its defenses in sleep, appearing both innocent and enchanting.
He walked to the bedside with light steps, carefully lifted the quilt, and slowly lay down without waking her. Di Yu wound a strand of her black hair around his fingers several times and pressed a soft kiss upon it. His eyes, dark as ink, hid a burning and obsessive love.
There was no noise in the room; it was so quiet that only the sound of her shallow breathing remained. She was sweet and adorable.
Ling Luo stayed in bed for an entire day, yet she still felt quite unwell. To avoid being carried to the bath by Di Yu, she forced herself to act composed and went to the bathroom on her own.
“Luo Luo, you forgot to take your pajamas.” A tall, dark shadow appeared against the frosted glass door.
Ling Luo frowned. “Leave them at the door. I will get them myself in a moment.”
“Do you not need me to bring them in?”
“No.”
“I see.”
Ling Luo could hear the disappointment in his tone. She thought to herself, Disappointment? Give me a break. Because her body was so uncomfortable, she spent most of her time lying in bed and had almost no verbal communication with him.
After resting for two days, Ling Luo used the excuse of visiting her mother to get Di Yu to let her out. Before they left, Di Yu pulled three outfits from the closet and asked, “Which one do you want to wear?”
Ling Luo pointed randomly. “The mint green one.”
Di Yu stepped forward. “I will help you change.”
“No, no need!” Ling Luo grabbed the clothes and dashed into the dressing room.
She quickly put on her shoes, grabbed her phone, and climbed into Di Yu’s Rolls-Royce. They soon arrived at the largest hospital in the capital. Ling Luo walked inside carrying a bouquet of bright red roses.
Other people visiting patients carried fruit, tulips, or carnations. The roses in Ling Luo’s hands were exceptionally vibrant, drawing many stares. Her mother loved roses, so she brought a bouquet every time she visited.
Inside the ward, the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor filled the air. The woman on the bed wore a cap, and her face beneath the oxygen mask was pale, sharing similar features with Ling Luo.
Ling Luo removed the withered roses from the vase and replaced them with the fresh ones. Sitting beside the bed, she took her mother’s hand, her eyes reddening. “Mama, you must get well soon.” Her voice choked up with tears.
Di Yu sat beside her and spoke to her mother. “Auntie Ling, I have been taking good care of Luo Luo. You must get well so you can attend our wedding.”
Hearing this, Ling Luo’s lip twitched, and she glared at him with dissatisfaction. Di Yu returned the look with a smile. He whispered in her ear, “Our marriage can serve as a way to bring good luck and help Auntie Ling recover.”
His warm breath against her ear made it itch, and Ling Luo turned her face away uncomfortably. “If my mother does not wake up, or if the worst should happen, I will observe a three-year mourning period for her.”
Di Yu took a deep breath. “I can wait.”
Ling Luo touched the red four-leaf clover bracelet on her wrist. Her mother loved red, and it was her lucky color. Her mother had dressed her in red since she was a child, and this bracelet had been designed by her mother personally.
The Ling family used to be the most famous jewelry enterprise. Her mother was a brilliant jewelry designer and the heir to the family. Almost every piece of jewelry Ling Luo had worn growing up was designed by her mother’s own hand.
Ling Luo stayed in the ward for the entire day, and Di Yu accompanied her the whole time.
That evening, Di Yu took her to a sky restaurant. Beneath a massive dome, a crystal chandelier exuded luxury, and the fresh, elegant layout was full of style. A famous pianist was playing a melody, and the pleasant, light notes filled the entire restaurant. Those seated there were all prominent figures in the capital.
Di Yu pulled out a chair and invited Ling Luo to sit. Ling Luo scrolled through her phone; having not gone to work for three days, her inbox was overflowing with emails.
“You are still looking at work while you are with me?” Di Yu’s indifferent dark eyes swept over her as he remarked casually, “It turns out Luo Luo is a closet workaholic.”
“Di Yu, I should give you a nickname.” Ling Luo put down her phone and stopped looking at her emails.
Di Yu curled his lips into a smile that was both charming and dangerous. “What nickname?”
“Jealousy King.”
“Yes, that is a very accurate description.”
Instead of being angry, Di Yu smiled even more broadly.
