- Chapter 15 - Project Explosion
The words nearly stunned Bian You, but she quickly made a decisive move.
“Let’s buy here!”
Talk about perfect timing, just when she was worrying about having few chances to interact with Qi Zhi’e. If they lived in the same place, the odds of “coincidental” encounters would skyrocket, wouldn’t they?
“Don’t worry, President Bian, I’ll handle this flawlessly!” Assistant Zhou declared with solemn determination.
“Do this well, and your quarterly bonus will triple!” Bian You didn’t hold back, offering the most tangible reward.
“!”
Assistant Zhou’s motivation soared even higher. This was one of the perks of working for Bian You her rewards were always concrete, never empty promises or vague incentives.
While Assistant Zhou went to inspect the property, Bian You messaged Qi Zhi’e to check if she was affected by the recent incident.
The reason was simple: news had broken that the land originally transferred by the original owner to Qi Youqun had unearthed an ancient burial site. The government acted swiftly, taking over the project to prevent any potential damage to the relics.
Once the news spread, those who had previously criticized Bian You suddenly felt relieved. If they had waited for archaeologists to painstakingly brush away every speck of dirt, the project would have been delayed indefinitely.
With this relief, their attitude toward Bian You softened. Some even speculated she might have insider information, leading them to stop opposing her decisions.
Among them, Bian Liansong sighed the loudest in relief. Had the land issue not surfaced, she would’ve remained under constant scrutiny from the board, driving her up the wall.
While the Bian Group enjoyed a harmonious atmosphere, the Qi Group faced another crisis especially Qi Youqun, whose expression looked as if he’d swallowed a fly.
In fact, he might have preferred swallowing a fly over dealing with this disaster.
Though the original owner had handed over the land, it wasn’t free, Qi Youqun had paid a hefty price for it. Combined with subsequent investments, recouping the losses now seemed impossible, fueling his frustration.
Facing the board’s accusations, Qi Youqun sat in silence, his face dark. No words could change the fact that the project was indefinitely suspended.
Ironically, the most relaxed person in the room was Qi Zhi’e, seated at the lower left. She kept her head slightly bowed, her expression unreadable, as if her attention was entirely on her phone rather than the meeting.
Her indifferent attitude infuriated Qi Youqun, but with the spotlight already on him, he swallowed his anger.
Her phone vibrated softly. Seeing Bian You’s message, Qi Zhi’e instinctively ran her tongue over her teeth, a faint, tingling sensation spreading with the lightest touch.
Her brows furrowed slightly. She was realizing that as her heat approached, she had less control over certain impulses.
For instance, when faced with messages from Bian You, she would unconsciously lick the canine tooth that had marked Bian You, her mind involuntarily recalling the pained expression and the unconscious tears that had welled up in Bian You’s eyes during the chaotic moment of marking.
Delicious, delectable a taste that left her craving more.
Her body tingled with uncontained thoughts, and Qi Zhi’e took a deep breath to suppress the stirring emotions in her heart. Holding her phone, she spoke calmly, “There are still some matters to handle with the P14 project. I’ll take my leave now, the Bian Corporation’s representatives are waiting.”
Her abrupt words shattered the tense atmosphere. At the mention of the P14 project, everyone instinctively thought of the immense profits it would bring. Compared to Qi Youqun now, the difference was stark.
No one stopped Qi Zhi’e. Even if Qi Youqun wanted to, the others’ evident favor toward Qi Zhi’e left him seething, barely restraining the urge to flip the table.
Back in her office, Qi Zhi’e leaned into her chair, swiveling to face the window. Though her expression remained unchanged, a faint trace of confusion lingered in her eyes.
She couldn’t understand why she was in such an embarrassing state. That night, under the influence of the drug, she barely remembered any details, and afterward, her deliberate avoidance had made the memories fade quickly.
But now, with her heat cycle approaching and hormonal changes taking effect, the memories of that night resurfaced more frequently even forgotten details began piecing themselves together in her mind.
With a headache, she lowered her head, pressing her fingers to her temples. Qi Zhi’e was utterly fed up with these physiological changes driven by hormones changes that even manipulated her emotions.
She refused to believe she could genuinely develop feelings for Bian You. The fluttering in her chest had to be nothing more than the influence of pheromones.
Her face darkened. She knew Omegas marked by Alphas would grow increasingly dependent, their emotions intensifying. But she had never imagined that even a one-sided marking, an Omega marking an Alpha could trigger the same effect.
Bian You grew anxious when Qi Zhi’e didn’t reply. Had she really been implicated? Considering Qi Youqun’s shameless nature, Bian You feared he might drag Qi Zhi’e down without hesitation.
Glancing at her remaining tasks, she had already finished the urgent ones. The less pressing work could wait. She stood up and headed straight for Qi Zhi’e’s office.
Arriving at the Qi Corporation building, the receptionist recognized her instantly.
After all, this was the Alpha marked by their young CEO! Without hesitation, she let Bian You through.
Bian You felt a flicker of delight at the receptionist’s behavior, assuming Qi Zhi’e must have given instructions for her to be allowed in without an appointment.
The thought that Qi Zhi’e would specifically mention such details made Bian You inevitably overthink wondering if Qi Zhi’e’s attitude toward her had genuinely shifted, if she had begun to see her in a new light.
When she arrived at the floor where Qi Zhi’e’s office was located, she noticed the employees there seemed relaxed the moment she stepped out of the elevator. There was no oppressive atmosphere, suggesting the project crisis hadn’t affected them and by extension, likely hadn’t affected Qi Zhi’e either.
Even so, she knocked on Qi Zhi’e’s office door. At the sound of that cool, detached “Come in,” Bian You’s lips curled upward unconsciously.
The moment Bian You appeared, the others had already taken notice. As one of the central figures in recent gossip, she had successfully ensured everyone in Qi Corporation remembered her face.
She pushed the door open, closed it softly behind her, and the instant she turned around, she met Qi Zhi’e’s deep, tranquil gaze.
Bian You flashed her a bright smile, strode forward, and stopped in front of Qi Zhi’e’s desk. She studied Qi Zhi’e’s expression carefully though her demeanor seemed indifferent as usual, Bian You’s smile gradually faded, her brows knitting slightly.
“Are you upset?” she asked.
At first glance, Qi Zhi’e appeared no different from usual. But Bian You was sensitive to the emotions of those she cared about, and she could immediately tell that Qi Zhi’e was actually in a terrible state.
In response, Qi Zhi’e merely glanced at her briefly before lowering her eyes back to the documents in her hands. “Not at all.”
Though she denied it, Bian You felt she simply didn’t want to talk about it with her. Without hesitation, she dragged a chair over and sat down across from Qi Zhi’e, resting her elbows on the desk and cupping her face in her hands. Softly, she asked, “Is it about that project today? Did it involve you?”
Aside from that, she couldn’t think of anything else that would upset Qi Zhi’e.
Instead of answering, Qi Zhi’e asked, “Why are you here?”
“I was worried about you,” Bian You replied bluntly.
Qi Zhi’e: “…”
