- Chapter 4 - As Expected, A Gullible Fool
Seeing their strength in numbers and aggressive stance, Ye Lin softened his tone to inquire about the debts.
The landlord required 30,000 yuan for a year’s rent. The debt collectors demanded 30,000 yuan in interest and required him to repay the 1 million yuan principal as soon as possible. He could not possibly produce that much money.
He remembered that in the original novel, after the protagonist obtained the “Golden Finger,” he earned enough to repay his debts and buy a large house within a single chapter. Why was it that for him, a whole day had passed and he only had 2,000 yuan?
Yesterday, he had praised the Golden Finger for being simple and crude; today, he loathed it. Since he could not solve this himself, he had to seek help.
Ye Lin walked toward the group and said amiably, “It is like this: I do not have any money on me, but yesterday I met a very wealthy second-generation rich kid. I will call him in a moment and tell him how miserable I am. You guys cooperate by shouting threats in the background. The more pitiful I seem, the more willing he will be to help me. If you want your money, trust me!”
Looking at his appearance, the landlord and debt collectors knew he was not lacking for men. They instantly assumed this “rich kid” was his new boyfriend and nodded, agreeing to cooperate.
A moment later, the call connected.
“Brother, I am in a desperate situation! Lend me some money to save my life!”
“Why do you not go find Liang Wenle?”
Gu Jiazhi was rendered speechless by this stunt. He had originally gone out for a walk because he was feeling irritable, only to be hounded by Ye Lin’s frantic calls. He only answered to make it stop, never expecting a request for money.
“Liang Wenle has a terrible character; how could he possibly compare to you?” Ye Lin’s tone was flattering. He believed no one could resist a bit of praise.
Gu Jiazhi heard his words and began to waver. He also felt that Liang Wenle was inferior to him.
“Jiazhi, I owe so much money. They have blocked my door and are screaming that if I do not pay, they will beat me to death!” Just as Ye Lin finished speaking, he let out a miserable shriek, signaling with his eyes for the men behind him to start acting.
“Pay up now, or we will break your legs!” “Wait until my brother gets here! Do not grab my phone—ah!” “It hurts! It hurts! Do not hit me!”
The call ended abruptly, sounding as if it had been forcibly disconnected. Gu Jiazhi tried calling back immediately but found the calls were rejected several times, making him genuinely anxious.
An image flashed through his mind of Ye Lin being brutally beaten. Ye Lin would be lying on the ground, his beautiful face marked with bloody welts, curled up and clutching his legs while crying, with his eyes red and covered in dust.
Ye Lin is such an idiot; he definitely will not fight back. He will just let people beat and curse him. He is so stupid!
Worse yet, those debt collectors might see how good-looking Ye Lin is and start putting their hands on him. Cursing under his breath, Gu Jiazhi found someone to track Ye Lin’s address and rushed over in his car.
Meanwhile, Ye Lin put down his phone and looked at the creditors. “Wait one hour. If he does not show, I will call another one. He is also a rich kid.”
The creditors were dumbfounded. The landlord could not help but remark, “You have two of them?!”
Ye Lin had prioritized asking Gu Jiazhi for help because he wanted to see if the man truly considered him a friend. If all else failed, he would shamelessly go to Liang Wenle; after all, he had a contract with Liang, so Liang would likely take care of it.
Ten minutes later, the door was kicked open. Gu Jiazhi appeared with a panicked expression, flanked by two bodyguards in black. The creditors were stunned by Gu Jiazhi’s attire. It turned out this kid really was dating a wealthy elite!
Ye Lin’s eyes lit up. He instantly decided that Gu Jiazhi was his best friend and ran toward him.
Before Gu Jiazhi could even check for injuries, he instinctively pulled Ye Lin behind him and faced the creditors. “How much does he owe you?”
Ye Lin gripped Gu Jiazhi’s arm, pleasantly surprised. “You are going to help me pay? You are the best person I have ever met in my life!”
At this point, Gu Jiazhi signaled his men to settle things with the creditors and told Ye Lin to sit on the sofa. The creditors left happily with their money. Only the two of them remained in the room, with the bodyguards standing at the door.
Gu Jiazhi inspected Ye Lin’s body and found him completely unharmed, save for some dust on his fingers. “They did not hit you?”
Ye Lin smiled, his eyes bright like those of a young deer. “I told them you would definitely come to save me. I said if they dared touch me, you would have someone beat them until they were permanently disabled.”
Such confident words made it seem like he was deeply reliant on him. They had only met last night, yet he trusted him so easily. As expected, he was a gullible fool.
Seeing Ye Lin as both amusing and pitiful, Gu Jiazhi went along with it helplessly. “You certainly have an imagination. If I had not come, you would be finished.”
Ye Lin shook his head, staring into his eyes as he naturally buttered him up. “No, I felt that you are a truly good person, so you would not just stand by and watch me die.”
No one had ever praised him like that while he was growing up; people only ever praised his older brother for being a virtuous and outstanding genius. Moreover, he had looked down on Ye Lin last night and wanted to “do things” to him. Being praised today felt incredibly ironic.
Thinking of this, Gu Jiazhi surveyed the surroundings and said with disgust, “This place is simply unlivable.”
Ye Lin did not catch the deeper meaning. “By the way, do not worry. I will pay you back hundreds of times over for the money you spent helping me today!”
Since he had transmigrated into a “God-Tier Wealth” novel, he was confident he could pay Gu Jiazhi back hundreds of millions in the future.
Gu Jiazhi had no idea where Ye Lin got such confidence, as if no hardship in the world could knock him down. Though it was funny, considering Ye Lin had just been “scared,” he decided not to mock him.
“So, what do you plan to do now?”
“Actually, I am afraid to live here. The landlord and those debt collectors were too scary. I will find a safe place to stay first, then find a way to make money.” At this, Ye Lin looked up at Gu Jiazhi.
He felt that since Gu Jiazhi was willing to pay his debts, staying at his house was a logical next step. He asked tentatively, “I saw that you live alone. Can I stay with you for a while?”
Gu Jiazhi thought back to the panic he felt that morning. He stared at Ye Lin’s lips, unable to help thinking that if they lived together, he would have countless opportunities to “taste” them. He agreed, saying, “You can.”
Ye Lin excitedly hugged him and patted his back, saying sincerely, “Gu Jiazhi, from now on, you are my best friend. We will share the blessings and face the hardships together!”
Gu Jiazhi’s heart beat rapidly, like a frantic drum. It took him a moment to regain his composure. “Alright, we are best friends from now on.”
He truly had not planned on dating Ye Lin; he just wanted to taste him under the guise of friendship. This worked out well.
With the debt paid and a place to stay, life suddenly looked promising. In the future, he could live off Gu Jiazhi to save money. With passive income rolling in every day, plus the 5 million he would get from Liang Wenle, he could get to know more handsome rich kids.
Ye Lin planned his life out in his head and stood up to pack. He gathered his daily necessities first, then opened the wardrobe to take his clothes. At a glance, they were all faded and old. Some even had mold spots on the cuffs and hems, giving off an unpleasant smell.
Gu Jiazhi held a finger to his nose in disgust. “Why are you taking this junk with you?”
Ye Lin silently cursed the rich kid for not knowing the hardships of the common folk, but he kept up his pitiful act. “These are the only clothes I have. If I do not take them, I will have nothing to wear.”
Gu Jiazhi could not stand the thought of these rags entering his home. He pressed down on Ye Lin’s hand as he was folding clothes. “Enough. I will buy you new clothes and new necessities. Do not bring anything; just come with me.”
Ye Lin agreed readily and grabbed his hand. “Then you have to buy me a few sets. Let us go to the biggest mall in the city; the clothes there are the nicest.”
Gu Jiazhi grunted an affirmative and pulled him outside, wondering to himself, This guy is quite good at making men spend money; how did he end up living so poorly?
While in the elevator, looking at the jubilant Ye Lin, he could not help but think, Could this guy be a virgin? Is this his first time hooking a man? But he kept these thoughts to himself.
After leaving the apartment, Ye Lin sat in the passenger seat of the sports car, looking around curiously. Everything was foreign to him, and he wanted to study every part of it to see why it was worth tens of millions. Gu Jiazhi watched his eyes sparkle like a lake in the sunlight and shook his head helplessly. The Ye family really was cruel; they could even ignore their own flesh and blood.
The city’s largest mall sold various luxury goods; any single item inside cost as much as an ordinary person’s salary for decades. After entering, Ye Lin wanted to wander around, but he was led into a private room. The room was already filled with various men’s outfits, and professional shopping assistants were there to guide him.
Gu Jiazhi sat on the sofa waiting for him, with tea and snacks laid out. The assistants were professionals and quickly picked out suitable clothes for Ye Lin.
Ye Lin was only 175cm tall, and his proportions were not perfect, but his face was so beautiful that every outfit took on a “pure desire” vibe. One set, a sea-salt colored short-sleeved shirt and trousers, paired with his delicate face, made him look like a beautiful youth straight out of a manga.
The assistant said while picking clothes, “Mr. Ye is so thin and has such delicate features; he is very easy to dress.”
Before transmigrating, Ye Lin was always told he was thin. He worked in an electronics factory every day and walked to work instead of taking the bus, so of course he was thin! He did not expect to keep the same body after transmigrating.
The assistant pulled out a light pink jacket. “If Mr. Ye wears this, it will definitely be very cute!” Her voice softened as she spoke, as if she were coaxing a baby.
Ye Lin suddenly remembered that in middle school, many girls praised him for being cute. Everyone wanted to be his friend, but no one wanted to be his girlfriend. Back then, he thought it was because he was too pale, so he got angry and tanned himself dark, dyed his hair yellow, got a tattoo on his arm, and learned to ride motorcycles to “explode” the streets like the other boys just so people would stop calling him cute. However, still no girls liked him, and he had been single for years.
Now, hearing someone call him cute again, his expression soured. He took the pink jacket and put it back. “I am handsome, not cute. That color is not for guys; I will not wear it.”
The assistant looked at Gu Jiazhi. She assumed this was a “canary” brought by Young Master Gu, which was why she had chosen those clothes.
Gu Jiazhi stared at the milk-blue tank top Ye Lin was wearing. The more he looked, the more he liked it. He raised a hand to signal, “That is enough for today. Let us go back.”
Ye Lin happened to be tired from trying on clothes and sat down next to him. “I am a bit hungry,” he complained.
“Then eat something to pad your stomach first.” Gu Jiazhi intentionally picked up a cream puff from the table and handed it over.
Ye Lin tried to eat it in one bite, but his mouth was too small. The cream overflowed, staining his pale red lips. A smile appeared on Gu Jiazhi’s face; he had already decided how he would trick Ye Lin tonight.
