- Chapter 10 - Bye-Bye to You
Wen Yuluo packed his things very quickly. The enthusiasm and joy he had once felt when moving into this place matched the fierce desire he now felt to escape.
As large as the villa was, it held very few of his belongings. Perhaps from the very beginning, he had known deep down that he was destined never to become another master of this house.
“You don’t need it?” Zilan asked while helping him fold his clothes. “Why don’t you need it? Then where are you going to live?”
Wen Yuluo pulled a clean contract from the drawer. “I’ve agreed to the transfer.”
Zilan examined the contract over and over again. “You agreed? You’re going to Beicheng? But didn’t you say you wouldn’t know anyone there?”
Wen Yuluo paused. “Yes, but I don’t have any family left in Yancheng anyway. Settling down anywhere is the same.”
“The director offered very good conditions. If I don’t go to Beicheng, I won’t be able to find another good job like this in Yancheng.”
Zilan cautiously tested the waters. “Then Crown Prince Qi?”
“Don’t mention him.”
Wen Yuluo frowned with disgust, zipped up both of his suitcases, and stood up.
From the very moment Qi You rejected his call, his heart had completely and thoroughly died.
This relationship should have been put to a full stop long ago.
“Good!” Zilan was genuinely happy for Wen Yuluo. This incident would probably only make his determination to leave Qi You even more resolute.
“Yubao, since you’ve made up your mind, even though I’m reluctant to see you go, I won’t try to stop you. Once I have free time, I’ll go to Beicheng to visit you. Our Yubao is young and good-looking…”
Zilan deliberately pulled down the collar of Wen Yuluo’s shirt to take a look. “And your gland is still completely untainted! You’re going to have all those alphas at the Beicheng research institute wrapped around your finger!”
Right, his gland was still completely untainted.
He had been cohabiting with Qi You for four years, so why was his gland still untouched?
If it were any other young couple, the omega’s gland would likely be covered in overlapping old and new bite marks along with the alpha’s pheromones by now.
Wen Yuluo gave a self-deprecating laugh and joked, “What are you doing? Is this sexual harassment?”
The two of them were of different genders, and the gland was a private area; one simply didn’t inspect it like that. However, given how close they were, it could be overlooked.
“What are you talking about? I don’t have that kind of feeling toward you. If the two of us were together, would you be the top or would I?”
Wen Yuluo was amused to the point where his eyes crinkled into crescent shapes. He carried his luggage down the stairs and, before leaving, deleted his own fingerprint from the smart lock.
As the villa door clicked shut, he would never be able to enter again.
Wen Yuluo’s flight was at nine o’clock in the evening. Zilan accompanied him all the way to the airport, painting quite a few grand pictures of the future for him along the car ride. Having skipped dinner, he was almost full just from listening.
Saying goodbye with a hug at the airport, Zilan ended up crying anyway. “Yubao, wait for me. I will definitely arrange my schedule to visit you, and we can stay in touch on WeChat if anything comes up.”
Wen Yuluo stroked her head. “Of course I’ll wait for you, waiting for you to make those grand visions a reality.”
Through her tears, Zilan suddenly burst out laughing.
Wen Yuluo dried her tears. “Alright, you silly girl, go on now. It’s about to get dark.”
Watching Zilan get into her car, Wen Yuluo turned and entered the ticketing queue.
Taking out his phone, he deleted and blocked Qi You’s WeChat and phone number, including Wang Ran’s.
He had thought it would be excruciatingly painful, but watching Qi You’s profile picture vanish from his friends list felt instead like parting the clouds to see the bright sky, leaving him completely enlightened.
Yancheng, goodbye.
I suppose I am finally about to start a new chapter in my life.
Qi You’s business trip was finally coming to an end. After spending half a month away, he felt exhausted in both body and mind. Once his work was done, he returned to the hotel and refreshed his personal WeChat several times, but no new messages appeared.
Looking at the “Mm” on the pinned chat window, the veins at Qi You’s temples throbbed.
Wen Yuluo still hadn’t gotten over his anger?
How could he possibly stay mad for this long this time?
He tapped open the chat window, intending to send a message to ask what was going on. Just as he finished editing the text and prepared to send it, his finger froze mid-air.
Hesitating for a long time, he ended up deleting the text.
Wen Yuluo, go ahead and throw your tantrum then. Let’s see how many days you can keep this up.
Wen Yuluo had indeed played this little trick on Qi You more than once before, deliberately giving him the cold shoulder for several days to see how he would react, but Qi You’s reaction was always no reaction at all. In the end, Wen Yuluo would be the one who couldn’t take it anymore and come back to fawn over him.
To this, Qi You would outwardly appear completely indifferent, though at night he would toss Wen Yuluo around until the other begged for mercy without stopping.
Wen Yuluo was still foolishly unaware of what he had done wrong.
At the mere thought of Wen Yuluo with his eyes glazed over and shimmering with tears under his touch, Qi You’s throat went dry.
He called Wang Ran and instructed, “You stay here and keep an eye on the work for the next two days. I plan to fly back tomorrow.”
Wang Ran agreed without really understanding why.
Wen Yuluo’s rut period was scheduled for these next few days. An omega in rut was sweet and delectable, allowing Qi You to temporarily forget that detestable expression Wen Yuluo had worn six years ago. Though he claimed outwardly that he didn’t want to deal with him, he certainly wasn’t going to miss out on such a prime opportunity for pleasure.
Unable to wait any longer, Qi You booked a flight back to Yancheng, indulged in a fantasy about Wen Yuluo in the bathroom for a while, and went to bed.
The next day, he boarded the flight alone and, two hours later, landed smoothly in Yancheng.
The company had sent a car to pick him up. Qi You originally planned to head straight back to the villa, but he still hadn’t figured out the situation at the research institute. He had asked the public relations department to help look into it a few days ago, but once things got busy, he had forgotten to ask for updates. Going directly to the company now to talk face-to-face would be much more efficient.
The driver parked the car in the company’s underground garage, and Qi You took the elevator directly to the sixth floor where the public relations department was located. This sudden raid startled everyone on the entire floor.
He swept a cool glance over every employee who greeted him and walked straight into the director’s office.
Although young, Qi You possessed an aura that did not lose to his father’s. That unique alpha sense of oppression caused the PR director to shiver involuntarily.
“How are the things I asked you to handle going?”
The Qi Group had no dealings with the Lu Ying Research Institute. Although it wasn’t official company business, he had done his best to manage it anyway. “President Qi, we’ve already taken down and banned the accounts of everyone spreading nonsense online regarding the Lu Ying Research Institute.”
Qi You nodded. “What about the explosion during the ice-melting experiment? What caused it? Has it been investigated thoroughly?”
This made the PR director stutter slightly. “That matter happened several days ago, and the research institute has been intentionally trying to cover it up, so we haven’t been able to dig up much.”
“What did you say?”
Qi You’s voice was as cold as ice, making a casual sentence sound as though he were about to wipe out someone’s entire family.
The PR director nearly dropped to his knees. “President Qi, please don’t be angry. Although the matter hasn’t been fully investigated, I can guarantee that the dismissed project head is definitely innocent. He is extremely outstanding, has made quite a few contributions to the institute, and has won numerous awards. Anyone with eyes can tell the experiments he handled simply could not have suffered that kind of low-level mistake.”
Hearing him praise Wen Yuluo, Qi You’s expression finally softened a fraction.
Dozing off in thought right there in front of the PR director, Qi You decided that this matter still required Wen Yuluo to tell him in person.
Having made up his mind, he didn’t even bother saying goodbye and walked straight out of the office.
