- Chapter 56 - All She Wanted Was an Official Relationship
Yu Wenxi sighed helplessly. “What exactly did you promise me?”
Yan Run raised her hands in surrender. “Alright, alright.”
Soon, the waiter came in carrying plates of Western dishes and began arranging them on the table.
There was soufflé drizzled with strawberry sauce, fragrant cream of mushroom soup… Naturally, Yan Run wasn’t about to dig in greedily in front of strangers. Instead, she instinctively began cutting up her steak and placing piece after piece into Yu Wenxi’s plate.
Yan Run had thought that seeing her so attentive might inspire Gu Zhen to follow suit, but instead she found that it was Lin Chuyin who was cutting up steak and feeding it to Gu Zhen.
Yan Run: “…”
Gu Zhen looped her arm around Lin Chuyin’s and happily ate the beef from her fork, while Lin Chuyin’s expression was as gentle and patient as a mother’s.
Yan Run was almost struck dumb by the scene.
Yu Wenxi, however, remained perfectly composed. She simply said, “I’m thirsty.”
Yan Run hurried to pour her some orange juice. Normally, Yu Wenxi wasn’t fond of sweet drinks, but because her pheromones carried the scent of post-rain oranges, she had recently developed a peculiar fondness for orange juice. Whenever she was bored, she’d even sip orange-flavored cocktails for leisure.
Then, glancing again at the pair across from them being all lovey-dovey, she couldn’t resist a jab. “Miss Gu, do you have some kind of hand injury? Even that little bit requires Miss Lin to feed you?”
Like a child… Yan Run kept the rest to herself.
Gu Zhen ignored her. Only after finishing did she remark, “That’s because Chuyin treats me well.”
Yan Run clicked her tongue. Yu Wenxi treated her well too!
Wait—this was no time for comparisons.
Yu Wenxi broke the awkward silence. “Chuyin, when do you plan to make your relationship public?”
At that, the warmth in Lin Chuyin’s smile seemed to fade.
Yu Wenxi felt a jolt of unease. Had she said something wrong?
Gu Zhen’s eyes, on the other hand, lit up as she looked at Lin Chuyin, as if to say: We’re already this intimate in front of your best friend. How could we not make it public?
But Lin Chuyin only smiled faintly. “It’s still too soon.”
Gu Zhen’s smile froze. Yan Run rested her chin on her hand to hide the smug curve of her lips—Yu Wenxi’s pointed question seemed to have hit a nerve with this seemingly emotionally unstable Alpha.
“What do you mean by that?” Gu Zhen couldn’t help but press. “Chuyin, we’ve already slept together. You still won’t admit I’m your girlfriend?”
Yan Run’s eyes widened. She actually said that out loud? No filter whatsoever.
Lin Chuyin took her hand in a calming gesture.
But Gu Zhen pressed on, unwilling to relent. “Am I your girlfriend or not? Say it in front of your best friend, otherwise I can’t accept it.”
Can’t accept what exactly? Yan Run thought dryly.
Lin Chuyin explained patiently, “But… we haven’t had an official confession yet.”
“Then I’ll confess right now, how about that? Chuyin, I like you, you—” Gu Zhen suddenly looked at the two people beside her, and her heart sank. She turned to Yu Wenxi. “Has she ever told you what I am to her?”
Yu Wenxi naturally had no answer.
From the side, Yan Run chimed in, “Didn’t she just say you two never even confessed?”
“No! Chuyin, I am your girlfriend. Isn’t that right?” Gu Zhen’s voice rose in agitation, her questions turning into accusations, as if all of this was a lie. Yet Lin Chuyin still didn’t give her the confirmation she wanted.
Gu Zhen shook her head in disbelief, turning to Yu Wenxi for backup. “Why won’t she admit it? We’ve slept together, kissed, hugged… she’s even let me bite her gland. How could anyone do all that and not be in a relationship?”
Lin Chuyin frowned, still holding her hand. “Zhenzhen, don’t say such things in front of me.”
“So you’re denying it happened? We didn’t just do it in your bedroom—we did it in mine, in the bathroom, even in the study!”
Gu Zhen yanked her hand free, stunned that Lin Chuyin could do all that with her yet refuse to acknowledge her as her girlfriend.
Those were things couples did.
Unable to process it, she bolted for the restroom.
With no choice, Lin Chuyin went after her.
Yu Wenxi didn’t involve herself in their drama, sipping her orange juice with casual detachment.
Yan Run remarked, “I used to wonder why Miss Lin would ever be interested in someone as crazy as Gu Zhen. Turns out she just wanted a young body to vent on.”
“That’s not quite fair,” Yu Wenxi replied mildly. She supported an Omega’s right to toy with an Alpha if it was just for fun—taking their body didn’t necessarily harm them.
But Lin Chuyin wasn’t that type. All she wanted was a real, official relationship.
“If an Omega slept with you, would you be willing to be her girlfriend?” Yu Wenxi asked lightly.
A lethal question.
Yan Run quickly denied it. “No. Because other than you, I’d never sleep with any Omega.”
She was feeling rather proud of her perfect answer—until Yu Wenxi smiled faintly. “What if that Omega was me?”
Yan Run’s face flushed and she ducked her head. “Then I’d confess to you right away.”
“I haven’t said I wanted to play with you yet. What if I just wanted your body?” Yu Wenxi teased. “Confessing doesn’t mean I’d accept.”
Yan Run muttered, “So when you agreed to be with me in the first place, you just wanted to fool around?”
That jab hit a sore spot—something Yu Wenxi preferred not to revisit. She regretted ever having such a thought. After all, even she couldn’t bear to bully her little darling.
Some time later, Lin Chuyin finally emerged with Gu Zhen in tow.
Gu Zhen seemed to have been coaxed back into a better mood, even declaring confidently, “We’re going to get married.”
Lin Chuyin sighed softly at her words.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” she said.
Yu Wenxi shook her head with a smile. “It’s fine. You two alright?”
Lin Chuyin just smiled faintly and said nothing more.
Before leaving, Yu Wenxi wanted a private word with her friend, so she told the two Alphas to wait in the lounge.
Yan Run, not wanting to be left alone with this lunatic, was about to make an excuse to leave—when Gu Zhen spoke up. “I hear Lang Feng was your high school classmate?”
The name made Yan Run tense instantly. She frowned. “You know Lang Feng?”
Gu Zhen gave a short laugh, a flicker of mockery in her cold eyes. “We drink together all the time. How could I not know someone like her?”
Yan Run’s stomach sank. Two of the people she disliked most, together? They were probably plotting against her.
“So…” Yan Run sat back down, her interest piqued. She had been planning to deal with Lang Feng anyway. “What do you two talk about when you’re together? Badmouthing me?”
“She told me a lot about you. Said you two were very close in high school—like wives.”
“Bullshit!” Yan Run snapped. “We were just friends!”
It was terrifying how easily that woman could spout nonsense to strangers. She’d never done anything intimate with her.
Gu Zhen smirked, amused. “Well, this is a first. I’ve never met such a brazen Alpha—whose crush was also an Alpha.”
Yan Run let out a breath. “That’s all in the past.”
“How can it be in the past? Don’t you want revenge? Did you know your last car accident was her doing? She told me herself,” Gu Zhen said, enunciating each word.
Yan Run narrowed her eyes. “If you’re on such good terms with her now, why are you telling me this?”
“Good terms? I find anyone who likes Alphas disgusting.” Gu Zhen adjusted her suit collar, her expression growing icier. “We first met at a bar. She was talking with a friend and mentioned you—said you were cold by nature and abandoned her. She repeated those words to me countless times. So I decided to get to know her.”
“Why? Planning to join forces with her against me?” Yan Run asked warily.
Gu Zhen sighed, her earlier fury toward Lin Chuyin replaced with a businesslike calm. “She told me a lot about Miss Yu. That although Miss Yu may be reserved, she never bullies others—and even helped her during her hardest times. Since she helped Chuyin, I felt guilty for speaking ill of her before. And because you’re the one Miss Yu loves most, when I learned Lang Feng was targeting you, I thought I should help you.”
Yan Run eyed her skeptically. “You’d really help me?”
“Don’t you trust me?” Gu Zhen sighed. “She’s practically glued to me now, always inviting me to dinner.”
“Of course. She likes any Alpha who looks good. Watch out she doesn’t slip something in your drink.” Yan Run’s tone sounded casual, but it was actually a warning. If Lang Feng ever did drug her, that would be the end.
Gu Zhen curled her fingers slightly—clearly revolted by the thought. It seemed she really was deeply Alpha-averse.
“In that case, since you feel guilty and want to help me, let’s work together,” Yan Run said. She wasn’t about to let such a perfect opportunity go to waste. Even if Gu Zhen tried to trick her, she’d make full use of her first.
“Alright.” Gu Zhen shook her hand. “What’s the plan?”
“Have a drink with her. Get her talking, then record it.”
Gu Zhen’s eyes gleamed. “And if she doesn’t?”
“Then I’ll meet with her myself in a few days. One way or another, the grudge between us won’t just disappear,” Yan Run said through clenched teeth.
The meeting with Lang Feng was set at a small café near their old high school—a place they had gone to often. It was a modest shop that sometimes hosted students in crisp white uniforms, their smiles bright with the glow of youth and innocence.
Lang Feng sat in the most secluded corner. Her once-vibrant red hair had long since been dyed black, and the once-predatory look in her eyes now carried a weathered, almost weary air.
Yan Run spotted her the moment she stepped through the door.
