- Chapter 18 - Is This Plot Right? Can a Power Fantasy Protagonist Fail a Gambling Agreement?
Reviewing while sober was entirely different from learning while intoxicated.
Things that seemed easy to accomplish yesterday were now met with great difficulty.
Fortunately, no matter how the student performed, the teacher remained patient and remained so useful.
After everything ended, silence returned to the meeting room.
This teaching session, occurring a day later, finally concluded with a score of eight Humiliation Points.
The reason there were only eight was not that Yue Mingcang could only eat eight grapes, but because compared to yesterday, today, when Yue Mingcang ate two grapes, it only granted one Humiliation Point!
Long Yin worried about the scarcity of future opportunities, so he desperately wanted to finish the task in one go.
However, while sixteen grapes could be attributed to Yue Mingcang’s natural talent and the small size of the fruit, seventeen was simply an impossible feat.
Long Yin buried himself in the executive chair, stuck in a state of post-event daze. His brain felt foggy, and he could think of nothing at all.
A roleplayer from a restricted novel background being left senseless by the sheer sexiness of a power fantasy protagonist; such a thing would be unbelievable to anyone else.
But the fact remained.
An experience he had never obtained in restricted novel roles, he had now experienced in a power fantasy.
Twice.
Long Yin was so ashamed he wanted to bury his head in the sand.
He did not want to think about those terrifying things anymore and tried to find something to do to distract himself. He reached out to find his phone, which had been misplaced.
After searching for a long time, the phone was still nowhere to be found. Instead, crystalline liquid dripped from his fingertips as he moved, staining the dry carpet with a dark spot once more.
The lingering scent of grapes drifted into Long Yin’s nose.
It was faint and sweet.
Just the scent alone made his face flush red.
For the next half year, Long Yin did not see Yue Mingcang again.
Given his relationship with Yue Mingcang, it was impossible to exchange contact information. Therefore, all the news Long Yin had regarding him came from media reports.
Yinlin Company was gaining momentum after successfully relocating to the office building in the center of Dragon Port. The logistics system, which Yue Mingcang’s father had invested heavily in, flourished under Yue Mingcang’s leadership. As Yinlin’s orders surged, the throughput of Dragon Port also rose steadily.
In comparison, the Leap Dragon Port had encountered frequent problems since its grand opening, appearing somewhat unlucky.
Aggressive media outlets had already begun promoting the idea of a “Clash of Kings,” though mainstream media still followed the tyrant’s lead and dared not speak out.
Over the past two weeks, Long Yin had lived in seclusion. Every time he was captured by the media’s lens, he wore a serious expression, as if he were plotting something major.
For a time, merchants inside and outside Dragon Port were on edge, afraid to make any big moves for fear of being caught in the crossfire.
However, this was all a product of outsider imagination. Long Yin was not plotting anything.
The reason he looked worried was that his Humiliation Points were not yet maxed out.
The reason he lived in seclusion was that the hammock in his new home was too comfortable; once he lay down, he stayed there all day and could not get up.
The afternoon sun was a bit glaring, spilling over Long Yin through the silent trees.
Long Yin turned over slightly and let out his tenth sigh of the day.
His lazy and dejected appearance would have shattered anyone’s tyrant filter.
Long Yin: [Xiao Bai, did the Humiliation Points go up today?]
Xiao Bai: [They did not go up today, woof! But Xiao Bai believes they will definitely go up tomorrow, woof!]
Long Yin: [Sigh.]
Xiao Bai was far too optimistic.
He could not even meet Yue Mingcang; how could the Humiliation Points go up on their own?
The Roleplayer Code of Conduct was also becoming increasingly ridiculous. A character like him did not even have the right to actively contact the Child of Destiny to cause trouble. How was he supposed to complete the task?
Sigh, he heard that when his predecessor met the protagonist for the first time, they could earn ninety Humiliation Points in one go. How on earth did they do that?
Because he could not return to his own world, Long Yin desperately wanted to remain in this book world. The ending for the villain in Dragon Port might be unacceptable to ordinary people, but it was well within his range of acceptance.
It was merely ending up penniless and living on the streets. He had hands, feet, and strength; he could easily find a job to support himself.
However, to stay, he had to earn enough Humiliation Points.
The plot had now reached the height of the protagonist’s rise. From here on, there would be many opportunities for him to suffer setbacks, but few chances for Yue Mingcang to eat grapes. He truly saw no opportunity to gain the remaining nine Humiliation Points.
Long Yin stood up with a sigh, plucked a fruit from a nearby branch, and popped it into his mouth.
Oh, it was so sour.
But since he had already eaten it, he could not waste food.
Long Yin furrowed his brows, chewed the fruit, and swallowed it before lying back down in the hammock.
When he arrived in this world, he replaced the position of Old Lord Dragon. He had nothing of his own; everything he had was inherited from Old Lord Dragon.
He disliked Old Lord Dragon’s taste very much.
Consequently, from the day after the Pure White returned to port, Old Lord Dragon’s mountainside villa had been undergoing intense renovations.
He usually lived at the company, at a secure private club, or in a hotel, wandering like a lonely ghost.
It was not until recently that the renovation team declared the work finished, finally allowing him to move into his long awaited new home.
Long Yin was satisfied with every part of this new home. The only regret was that he could only live here for a very short time.
Before long, he would face the conclusion of the company going bankrupt and him living on the streets. Everything he owned would fall into Yue Mingcang’s hands: his status, his assets, and even this mountainside villa he had personally designed and renovated.
He had no complaints about this. His only wish was that Yue Mingcang would like his taste and treat his home well.
Soon, another month passed.
After many days, Long Yin saw Yue Mingcang again.
It was not that Yue Mingcang had sought him out, but the plot had reached a point where the two had to meet: the first stage audit of the gambling agreement, where the protagonist face-slaps the villain boss for the first time.
An excellent roleplayer should have maxed out their Humiliation Points by now and would only need to follow the plot.
Long Yin was different. He was still nine points short, so he had to think of a way to bully Yue Mingcang during the face-slapping plot.
He had been trying to come up with a plan for two months, putting in eight hours of ineffective effort every day. Ultimately, he thought of nothing and took his seat in the meeting room looking crestfallen.
Only a handful of people sat in the massive meeting room.
On the White Dragon Shipping side, there was only Long Yin and his special assistant. On the Yinlin Company side, it was even more extreme: Yue Mingcang had come alone.
Looking across, there were three groups in total. Surprisingly, the largest group was the third party audit; they had sent three people: one auditor and two assistants.
The audit party had issued a report yesterday, and the auditor now read the results aloud:
“Therefore, as of the date of this report, Party B has failed to achieve the first stage performance goals stipulated in the agreement.”
The moment these words were spoken, Yue Mingcang showed no reaction, but Long Yin cried out in surprise, “No, what? Wait, what do you mean he failed the first stage performance goals? Are you sure your calculations are correct?”
The auditor was a mature and experienced middle-aged elite, well prepared for such situations.
However, before explaining the audit standards, his gaze caught the name card for the Party A seat in front of Long Yin.
The auditor took off his glasses, wiped them with a cloth, and looked again.
He was not mistaken. Long Yin was indeed Party A, and Yue Mingcang was Party B.
So this was Party A speaking up for a Party B who failed to meet the goal?
How could such a thing exist in this world?
The auditor felt an unprecedented sense of shock.
Yue Mingcang spoke up at the appropriate time. “We failed to meet your expectations. I am very sorry.”
Long Yin held the report, flipping through it in disbelief. “That is not right. Have you seen the report? Was something missed during the audit? Were the performance figures calculated too low?”
Yue Mingcang said dejectedly, “I have confirmed it. The audit is correct. I am just not good enough.”
Auditor: “?”
As the head of the audit team, he knew when he took this job that the content was very special. It involved a secret gamble and instructions that the fewer people who know, the better. It looked abnormal in every way.
Because he worried about shady dealings, he had been especially cautious during the audit, fearing he might fall into a trap.
Now he knew.
There was no trap, but shady dealings were clearly present.
Under the auditor’s scrutinizing gaze, Yue Mingcang said calmly:
“Although we failed to complete the first stage goal, the agreement mentions that even if the first stage goal is not met, we can still proceed with the final stage of the gamble. Therefore, I apply to waive the first stage and move directly to the final settlement three months early, which is next month.”
“This, this, this!”
Long Yin was so shocked he could not speak a full sentence.
The original plot of Dragon Port clearly stated that Yue Mingcang completed the goal right at the passing line. How could he have failed?
The protagonist completing the gambling agreement was related to the plot of face-slapping the villain boss. Now that the gamble had failed, what would happen to that plot?
As for the final settlement in the gambling agreement, that was another plot point where Yue Mingcang face-slapped the villain boss. Could it be that the two face-slapping scenes were merging into one?
Was this plot right?
Long Yin: [Xiao Bai, why is the plot completely different from the original?]
Xiao Bai: [Rest assured, Great Host! The plot has its own degree of freedom, woof! As long as the main system does not report an error, there is no problem, woof!]
Long Yin: [Al, alright.]
Seeing Long Yin’s hesitant look, the auditor quickly weighed the pros and cons in his heart.
As a third party audit platform, their company should not favor either side.
However, rules were rules, and favors were favors. To earn a living in Dragon Port, one could not offend the Long family.
The auditor quickly made a decision and spoke:
“Young Lord, our report was issued based on market data and the data provided to us by Mr. Yue. Regarding the rationality of some of that data, our team indeed has some disagreements.”
Those words nearly exposed Yue Mingcang’s secret entirely.
Normally, even if the data provided by Party B had issues, it would only be falsified in a direction that favored them and promoted success. If Yue Mingcang was doing the opposite, he might actually have tried to slip through the cracks.
The auditor pushed up his glasses and looked at Long Yin, speaking in a calm but suggestive tone: “Young Lord, if you have questions about the results, we can…”
“I know you have questions. Have them leave; I will communicate with you privately,” Yue Mingcang interrupted hurriedly.
Auditor: “?”
