After the Real Young Miss Became My Canary - Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Song Zhi stood there, coldly watching her. He Rong was about to ask what they should do when Song Zhi…
Song Zhi turned and ran.
I’m going to die, I’m going to die! Why is she here?! Wasn’t she supposed to be in Gangcheng?
An hour ago, she was confidently sure she wouldn’t be that unlucky, and now she discovered she was precisely that unlucky.
He Rong watched the person quickly move through the hallway, reaching another path in just a moment. She froze for two seconds, unsure whether she should chase after her or stay put. In that brief hesitation, a person stepped out from the corner behind her. He Rong instinctively looked. A tall, beautiful woman approached. She looked slender, only slightly shorter than Song Zhi, with a cold, aloof expression. She wore a thin gray overcoat, which made her look even colder—her beauty was almost sharp. Song Zhi was also exceptionally beautiful, but they were completely different types. At least He Rong dared to talk to Song Zhi, but she wouldn’t dare approach this person. This person looked exactly like a block of ice that had transformed into a human.
He Rong instinctively backed up two steps, terrified of being noticed. Yet, the moment she retreated, the person’s indifferent gaze immediately shifted to her.
Shen Ying: “Where is she?”
He Rong instantly broke out in a sweat. She hated dealing with people like this. Under the woman’s cold gaze, she stammered: “Huh? What person? It’s just been me here all along.”
Whether the person believed her or not, she muttered a faint thank you and slowed her pace, walking away slowly.
Only after the person disappeared from sight did He Rong pull out her phone with sweaty hands: “She seems to be gone.”
Song Zhi: “I’m almost at the door. I’ll… you get out quickly. I’ll wait for you in the parking lot.”
He Rong didn’t miss Song Zhi’s pause, but she didn’t quite understand what it meant. Given Song Zhi’s personality, it shouldn’t have been about her, right?
He Rong said: “Okay, I’m coming out now.”
He Rong spoke while finding a waiter to ask for directions out, and then quickly followed the path the waiter pointed out.
What she didn’t know was that as soon as she rounded the corner and reached the elevator, the person who had just vanished from sight slowly emerged from behind a pillar behind her.
Song Zhi: “Hurry up.”
With that, Song Zhi hung up the phone and, while walking quickly toward the exit, booked the earliest flight out for tomorrow.
She had initially thought of running away by herself, but it was unfair to leave He Rong, a young woman, stranded there for no reason, even though she was a grown adult in her twenties.
She felt a slight sense of relief now. Fortunately, Shen Ying didn’t see her; otherwise, she might not be able to leave today. However, Shen Ying’s hatred was too long-lasting. After five years of not seeing her, simply seeing someone who vaguely resembled her was enough for her to relentlessly pursue, like a hawk after a rabbit.
This thought ignited a fresh burst of anger in her heart. Why is Shen Ying even angry? She didn’t even hate Shen Ying or pursue the matter of Shen Ying deceiving her, yet Shen Ying is the one who hates her? Bah, how shameless.
She was truly infuriated. Why did Shen Ying have the right to be angry? she thought. What right does she have to hate me? She lied to me! Shen Ying deceived me!
Perhaps it was the combination of the old acquaintance and the home country, but the emotions she had suppressed for years suddenly burst forth like a dam breaking as she looked at the heavy snow falling outside the door.
She felt a little wronged.
What did she do wrong? She genuinely believed she had done nothing wrong.
Stepping out of the restaurant’s revolving door, the biting cold wind, laden with snow, hit her face. Her eyes reacted to the sudden cold and instinctively narrowed. Song Zhi was lightly dressed and had just recovered from a fever; the wind made her shiver.
The cold prompted her to turn around and wait for the stinging wind to pass. Just as she turned, she bumped into a warm body, slightly shorter than her and seemingly quite thin.
Song Zhi was startled, realizing she had bumped into someone. However, the wind was too strong and blinded her. She couldn’t fully open her eyes and could only blink and step back while apologizing: “I’m sorry.”
The person didn’t reply but reached out a cool hand and firmly grabbed her wrist.
Is this person mute? Song Zhi thought. That would be a sin. Or are they trying to stage an accident? That seems unlikely.
She blinked her eyes, trying to clear the blurred vision in front of her, and tentatively asked again: “If you’re hurt, I’ll take you to the hospital. How about that?” She didn’t want to rub her eyes in public; she still cared about her image.
A soft chuckle sounded—very light, almost like a mocking sneer, but also conveying a feeling of utmost preciousness, as if the person could only squeeze out that tiny bit of gentle sound from their throat.
Song Zhi’s heart instantly tightened. An alarm bell abruptly went off. This voice, why is it so familiar? It sounds like…
Before she could figure it out, the soft, aloof voice spoke: “Not how about that.”
!!!
As the familiar voice registered in her mind, her vision cleared.
A familiar face appeared before her. Compared to five years ago, the expression was more indifferent, the jawline sharper, and the eyes were cold, fixed relentlessly on her. Her complexion was pale, and her lips only had a faint color. She didn’t look human; she looked like a ghost that had just risen from the dead.
In Song Zhi’s mind, that was exactly what she was. What’s the difference between this person and a ghost?!
She momentarily forgot the hand clamped tightly around her wrist. She took a huge step back, which only resulted in pulling the other person back with her. The slightly cool palm that had covered her wrist was now alarmingly hot.
Song Zhi forced herself to calm down: “Who are you?! What do you want?!!! If you don’t let go, I’m calling the police?!!!”
The bridge will straighten when the boat reaches it. That was her quick thinking. No matter how much Shen Ying hated her, all she had to do was stubbornly deny everything. In a country as large as Huaguo with such a dense population, where even cases of switched babies happened, what was the big deal about a fake young miss having a twin?
She returned Shen Ying’s cold stare.
Shen Ying merely let out a faint chuckle.
Shen Ying said faintly: “A few years apart, and your ability to talk nonsense has declined, Song Zhi.”
Song Zhi’s mind shook, but her composure had steadily improved over the past few years: “Who is Song Zhi? I don’t know her. If you don’t let go, I’m calling the police!!!”
Shen Ying didn’t let go or acknowledge her. She just held onto her hand tightly and asked coldly: “Who are you? You didn’t die. Why are you seeing someone else instead of me?”
Song Zhi thought, What business is it of hers who I see?
But on the surface, Song Zhi continuously tried to pull her hand away, harshly demanding: “Who exactly are you? I’m calling the police!”
“General Manager Song, you’re here after all!” A surprised voice came from behind Shen Ying, flying over her head and entering Song Zhi’s ears without missing a beat.
This voice naturally didn’t escape Shen Ying.
Song Zhi silently closed her eyes, expressionlessly stopping the struggle in her hand.
