After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 56
After the first time, Fang Xu actually hadn’t intended to do anything more.
But the bathroom was filled with steam, and Pei Yunci would occasionally hook her fingers or bite her collarbone. Even the most self-controlled person couldn’t remain unmoved.
The showerhead was still running. Fang Xu lowered her head, wanting to kiss her, but was avoided.
Pei Yunci said, “I haven’t finished washing my hair.”
“I’ll help you wash it,” Fang Xu replied, and with just that sentence, she immediately returned to her usual obedient and quiet self.
Pei Yunci had preferred shampoo and shower gel, which she kept stocked both at the apartment and the rented house. However, at this moment, Fang Xu couldn’t distinguish the scent of the shampoo, only the fragrance of platycodon (bellflowers) filling her nose.
Foam gathered in her palm, was slowly washed away, and disappeared with the water. The two moved closer and closer, their toes touching.
She didn’t know when they started kissing again, but when she regained her senses, Fang Xu was already holding her in her arms.
Pei Yunci looked at the girl, her breathing slightly ragged, yet her voice still held a hint of a smile: “That wash was for nothing.”
Fang Xu, for once clever, evaded the topic and promised, “I’ll wash it for you.”
Pei Yunci chuckled, wrapped her arms around Fang Xu’s waist, closed her long eyelashes, and said, “As you wish.”
“…”
The bathroom was spacious with nowhere to brace themselves, and leaning against the wall was too cold. As a result, Pei Yunci spent half the time resting against the girl’s body.
Fortunately, Fang Xu regularly exercised and had good stamina. When they finished, she wasn’t as tired as Pei Yunci. She not only helped Pei Yunci wash up again but also had the energy to change the sheets and quilts, allowing her to lie down comfortably.
The playful time had lasted too long. In the dark early morning, the two didn’t continue the ‘sleeping under separate quilts’ rule of the previous two days, instead snuggling close to each other.
“Sister,” Fang Xu looked at her and asked softly, “Are you still angry?”
Pei Yunci: “Depends on your future performance.”
Fang Xu promised her, “I won’t say things like that again.”
“I’m not forbidding you from buying a house or a car,” Pei Yunci said seriously, twirling Fang Xu’s hair around her finger, “but don’t do it for me.”
“You are wonderful, and you work very hard. Don’t rush, and don’t put yourself down. If I were your age, I might not do as well as you. I like you, the person, not the house you buy.”
Fang Xu blinked, feeling a mix of sourness, sweetness, and an inexplicable surge of emotion: “I know.”
Pei Yunci acknowledged with a soft ‘mm,’ and then said, “Repeat what I just said, don’t miss a single word.”
Fang Xu: “…”
Saying those words about herself felt a little embarrassing.
She lowered her gaze, struggling to figure out how to avoid it, when she heard Pei Yunci say, “Hurry up and say it. I’m a little sleepy.”
The implication: she could go to sleep after saying it, but if she didn’t, Pei Yunci would have to stay up late with her.
Fang Xu bit her lip, burying most of her face in the pillow, and repeated the words of praise: “…You are wonderful…”
She would say one sentence, and Pei Yunci would listen to one. Vaguely, she suspected this was a punishment for making Pei Yunci angry.
The few short sentences felt like they took a century to utter.
Pei Yunci: “Your memory is quite good.”
Not a single word was wrong.
Fang Xu hummed, her face still red, and looked at her, “Should we sleep now?”
“Sleep,” Pei Yunci told her to turn off the light.
The switch was right by the bed. Fang Xu pressed it off, then turned back to see Pei Yunci, illuminated by the bedside lamp, looking down at her fingers.
Long, slender, and fair, they were beautiful like a work of art.
Fang Xu examined them closely but saw nothing amiss, yet still asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Don’t you feel like something is missing, that it’s a little empty?” Pei Yunci moved her fingers.
Fang Xu thought for a moment and said, “Wearing an accessory would help.”
After saying that, she began to wonder if she should stop by a jewelry store after work in the next couple of days to buy something for her.
But something that could be worn on the hand seemed to be… only a ring.
Thinking of this, Fang Xu blinked and looked at the person beside her.
Pei Yunci had already withdrawn her hand and lay down, ready to sleep, as if she had just made a casual remark.
“Good night,” she said.
The hint had been given. Whether the dullard would take the hint and propose was up to her.
Fang Xu also lay down: “Good night.”
That night, she no longer worried about whether the other person was angry. Instead, she thought about whether she could give her a ring.
…
Two weeks into the summer vacation, the college entrance exam scores were released. Yiyi performed normally, ranking first in her school, and filled out her application for Jiangcheng University. After receiving the admission notice, she happily came to Jiangcheng.
On the same day, the beta test for the studio’s game, A Thousand Worlds, opened, inviting players and gaming bloggers to experience it.
As the first game the studio had made since its establishment, Fang Xu couldn’t be away; she had to keep an eye on things constantly. She could only agree to her sister’s suggestion: for her to come to Jiangcheng alone, and Fang Xu would pick her up at the station.
Knowing Fang Xu’s situation, Pei Yunci volunteered to pick her up at the station.
Fang Xu glanced at a new message from Yiyi.
“We’re home now and are about to go to the supermarket. Sis, focus on your work, and just wait to eat good food when you get back.”
Who was cooking, and what good food were they planning to make?
Fang Xu was instinctively wary, but since her sister and Pei Yunci were probably together now, she couldn’t ask directly, only replying tactfully.
【Fang Xu: Just buy some ready-made food. Don’t go to too much trouble. You’re tired from the journey today, so rest well.】
Yiyi replied with a voice message: “I know! Sister Pei said you should focus on the studio matters. We can manage ourselves, don’t worry!”
Fang Xu: “…”
She wasn’t very reassured.
However, she didn’t say anything more. She could usually tell that Pei Yunci seemed somewhat interested in cooking in the kitchen. Even if things went a little wrong, it would only be a slight difference in the taste of the food; the kitchen wouldn’t explode, so there was no need to worry too much.
Having reassured herself, Fang Xu went to find Shen Feihuai and asked, “Are there any critical bugs?”
“None so far,” Shen Feihuai pointed to the page and said, “I’ve had them record all the issues found so far, and I’ll send them to you once they’re organized.”
“Okay,” Fang Xu scrolled through the game community herself: “The response is good.”
They had already conducted a private beta test previously. Today’s test was a public one, allowing for live streaming and video editing to be posted on public platforms.
[@SoyMilkTea, the storyline this blogger chose, from beggar to emperor, is hilarious, you guys have to watch! The first time, he couldn’t find food and starved to death. The second time, he tried to recruit subordinates and was beaten to death by the beggar gang leader. The third time, he followed a guide and got a little further, but I still think he’ll fail.]
[I’m watching too. The reasons for death are bizarre yet make sense, it’s almost too realistic, hahaha!]
[The other storylines are great too. I’m hopping around different live streams now, afraid of missing the exciting parts.]
[Then I regret to inform you that you might really miss a lot of surprises. It’s full of laughs everywhere!]
[I’m a casual viewer, may I ask what game this is? It looks quite interesting.]
[A Thousand Worlds, it’s still in beta. If you like it, you can pre-order on the Infinite Games official website.]
[It’s fun, haven’t seen a single bad review yet!]
[…]
Shen Feihuai was a little excited: “Yes, the number of pre-orders is climbing so fast.”
“Is the server capacity okay?” Fang Xu asked again.
For a game, if it constantly lagged or crashed, the experience would be too poor, and it would unknowingly drive away many players.
“Don’t worry,” Shen Feihuai said proudly, “How could a wealthy studio like ours have problems with the server?”
Fang Xu smiled lightly, “Good.”
When she got home, she smelled the aroma of food.
“Sis, come eat quickly!” Yiyi said to her, “We’ve already eaten; this is specially saved for you.”
Fang Xu saw the food and asked, “Did you buy this outside?”
“Yes,” Pei Yunci looked up, her words carrying a different meaning: “We don’t know how to cook either.”
Fang Xu: “…”
From now on, she would never secretly speak ill of Pei Yunci behind her back again.
Her memory was truly excellent.
Yiyi couldn’t help but laugh nearby. After chatting for a while and showing her the admission notice, she returned to her bedroom and closed the door.
When she arrived that afternoon, she had seen the couple’s slippers, couple’s cups, and the couple’s pajamas drying on the balcony. She knew without a doubt that the two were deeply in love, and her sister certainly wouldn’t be squeezing into her bed anymore.
Thinking about it, Yiyi felt she had been inexplicably force-fed a mouthful of ‘dog food.’
She casually grabbed a doll to hug, stopped thinking about it, and continued chatting with her high school classmates.
On the other side.
Fang Xu kissed her, muffling her voice: “Sister, Sister…”
…
Two months later, A Thousand Worlds was officially released.
It became the most popular game of the year. The number of players exceeded ten million within a month, and the topic discussion remained high.
The gaming bloggers in the beginning were part of the studio’s paid promotion. But later on, every gaming blogger started playing the game, and A Thousand Worlds became synonymous with trending topics and traffic.
Shen Feihuai sat in his seat, watching the climbing data, and said, “It feels like a dream.”
“Me too,” Wu Yue loved the game herself, but she never expected it to be so popular: “Pinch me quickly.”
Fang Xu couldn’t help but smile and said to Shen Feihuai, “I want to leave early today.”
She had been working overtime, day and night, for two months, and now she could finally take a break.
“Go, go! Rest well!”
…
Pei Yunci and Fang Xu left together. They didn’t drive, instead walking slowly along the side of the road.
It was autumn, and the leaves on the street trees were a golden color.
Fang Xu held the hand of the person beside her and called out, “Yunci?”
“Mm?” Pei Yunci answered.
Fang Xu was still a little nervous and tentatively asked, “You said before that you didn’t want to get married. Is that still how you feel?”
Pei Yunci slowed her steps, looked at her, and said unhurriedly, “If it’s with you…”
Hearing this, Fang Xu was almost afraid to breathe, terrified of missing her answer.
“Yes, it’s possible.” Pei Yunci gave her peace of mind.
She looked at the hard edge in the pocket of the girl’s coat: “So, what do you want to say now?”
Pei Yunci had known for a long time that the girl had bought a ring, and she had been waiting for her to bring it up.
Who knew two or three months would pass without the ring being presented.
Fang Xu: “I…”
In her plan, she was supposed to slowly probe the other party’s wishes. If Pei Yunci didn’t want to get married, she would never mention it again. If the other person changed her mind, she would meticulously design a proposal scene.
But she was too happy, and these plans were forgotten.
The ring was taken out, and she even forgot to half-kneel, blurting out straight-backed, “I want to give you this.”
A dullard.
Pei Yunci chuckled, but still held out her hand and said, “Put it on me.”
The silver-white ring was slowly pushed onto her finger.
A leaf occasionally fell from the tree on this completely ordinary day.
Yet, Pei Yunci loved it.
She had seen too many grand and solemn ceremonies, none of which compared to the slightly trembling fingertips of the girl now.
Pei Yunci took out the other ring from the ring box and put it on Fang Xu as well.
With their hands clasped, she smiled and asked, “Shall we go home now?”
The ring was slightly cool, but Fang Xu’s heart was warm. She nodded and said, “Home.”
“Which house?”
Fang Xu said, “Either one.”
Any place that had Pei Yunci and Yiyi was home.
The fallen leaves were carried away by the wind, and they also remembered the wish Fang Xu had just made in her heart.
To be together forever.
