After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 4
After Fang Xu left the rest area, she walked straight toward the milk tea shop.
The milk tea shop was right outside the school gate, opened by a senior who had graduated last year.
With high foot traffic and many orders from the school, it had started hiring part-time help after the school year began, mainly for the evenings.
Compared to other part-time jobs and internships, the salary wasn’t outstanding.
However, since it was close to school, required no commuting, and had flexible hours, Fang Xu had been working there.
It wasn’t until she was halfway there that she suddenly remembered she had left something in the rest area. When she had taken out the gift box, she had temporarily set it aside and forgotten to put it away.
In TV dramas or novels, many people, after a breakup or heartbreak, would throw away the gifts they had meticulously prepared, burying them alongside their love.
Fang Xu hadn’t decided how to handle the gift yet, but given its price, she wouldn’t impulsively discard it.
Returning to the rest area, it was exceptionally quiet and empty. The person who had been there earlier was gone, with only the suit jacket still loosely draped over the back of the chair.
Had they left temporarily, or had they, like her, accidentally left something behind?
Fang Xu considered both possibilities but could only dismiss them.
She didn’t know who the person was, nor did she have their contact information. It was a chance encounter, and whether they would meet again was unknown.
Fang Xu pulled back her thoughts, found the gift box she had left behind, and opened it. The silver ear clip lay safely inside.
She breathed a sigh of relief and was about to put it into her backpack when she heard a faint “thud” from the isolation room.
The sound was not loud, but it was particularly noticeable in the quiet space.
For some reason, Fang Xu’s heart skipped a beat. Her gaze swept over the suit jacket on the chair, and then she walked toward the isolation room.
“Are you alright?”
Although she was a Beta, she had a basic understanding of gender dynamics. If the person had entered the isolation room, it meant their body was already feeling unwell.
After asking the question, the silence around her intensified, with only her own breathing audible.
Fang Xu recalled that the person seemed a little uncomfortable before she left, and her heart clenched. She raised her voice and repeated the question: “Is anyone inside? Can you hear me?”
The silence persisted as before.
Fang Xu frowned, starting to doubt if anyone was inside, and was about to ask again, “Is there anyone…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a faint, muffled voice came through the door: “Is that you?”
The sentence was a little vague, but Fang Xu understood what the person meant—they were confirming her identity.
“It’s me,” Fang Xu quickly replied, afraid the person wouldn’t recognize her, and added, “The one who was crying just now.”
“Are you a Beta?” Pei Yunci confirmed.
Fang Xu understood the person’s concern and replied, “Yes.”
As soon as the words fell, the door of the isolation room opened a crack. A wave of intense heat landed on the skin of Fang Xu’s wrist. In a flash, she was pulled into the isolation room by the other person.
The door closed with a “click.”
Fang Xu hadn’t even processed what was happening when a somewhat husky voice reached her ear, as if the person was forcibly enduring something: “Please, help me inject two doses of inhibitor.”
Pei Yunci suppressed the internal heat surge and other reactions, handing the two doses of inhibitor she carried with her to the strange girl in front of her.
Her bracelet had automatically sent a message to her emergency contacts. Without a hitch, her doctor and assistant would know her current situation and would arrive soon.
However, Pei Yunci was very clear about her physical condition. Even if they came, they would only take her to a safer and more convenient hospital, but the treatment for a disordered gland and pheromones would not be much better.
The two main options were: one, to inject a powerful inhibitor, or two, to endure it. Doctors usually recommended the latter treatment method.
Pei Yunci disagreed with their opinion. Since both methods were merely treating the symptoms and not the cause, she might as well choose the first treatment method, which was faster and took less time.
Therefore, she quickly made a judgment, to inject the inhibitor before she lost consciousness and before the doctor arrived.
Unfortunately, her hands were trembling, and her strength was gradually draining away. She couldn’t even find a vein, so she had to temporarily find someone to help.
A hot sensation passed by her skin, and two inhibitors were placed in her palm. The broken string in Fang Xu’s mind reconnected, and she fully snapped back to reality.
She looked at the person in front of her, who was still beautiful, leaning against the isolation room’s only small table, supporting most of her body weight, with her long legs slightly bent.
Her eyelids were half-closed, and the corners of her eyes were tinged with red. Perhaps due to the intense discomfort, physiological tears dampened her long lashes, which made her appear less noble and cold, and added an indefinable quality.
It made it unequivocally clear that this was an Omega in a special period.
Fang Xu’s eyelids fluttered, and she obediently answered, “Okay.”
“I’ll help you.”
The use of inhibitors had been taught in the first aid class. Fang Xu first checked the inhibitors. They were labeled [Powerful Inhibitor], [Once daily], and had an expiration date and other precautions.
For some reason, her reading speed was much slower than usual.
It was as if she had been infected by the other person.
She felt that the air in the isolation room had become much thinner, making breathing difficult. Her palms were hot, her face was hot, and even the back of her neck ached, like she had a fever.
Fang Xu bit the tip of her tongue, trying to ignore it, and tore open the packaging.
“Could you lift your arm slightly?”
Pei Yunci raised her eyes slightly, looking at the girl.
She still seemed a little afraid of her, deliberately maintaining a distance, but the movements of her hands were not slow. There was a strange reliability mixed with her inexperience.
She lifted her arm and said in a husky voice, “Thank you.”
Fang Xu felt a subtle, faint fragrance lingering around her and naturally attributed it to the person’s perfume.
“Don’t…”
Before the word “thank you” could be spoken, her sentence took a sudden turn, “I can’t help you.”
Pei Yunci’s breathing was heavy, and she didn’t immediately understand, asking with a nasal tone, “Huh?”
Fang Xu completed her sentence: “I can’t inject the inhibitor for you.”
With the burning and pain intensifying at her gland, Pei Yunci was almost angered into laughter by the statement: “Why?”
If she hadn’t intended to help her from the start, why waste time here?
Fang Xu could sense her emotion but still said, “You’ve already injected three doses. If you inject another inhibitor, it will be bad for your health.”
The woman’s skin was cold and pale. When Fang Xu lowered her eyes, she could see the needle marks above her wrist, a patch of bruising, and even some traces of smeared blood.
Pei Yunci closed her eyes, her voice lower, saying, “It doesn’t matter, just stick the inhibitor in.”
“It does matter. I’ll call the emergency services first.”
Fang Xu hadn’t experienced this before, and though her body felt unwell, like a fever, she clearly listed the necessary actions in her mind.
“The inhibitor definitely can’t be used. It’s better to go to the hospital first…”
As she spoke, Fang Xu had already pulled out her phone from her pocket.
The screen lit up, and her palm suddenly felt empty.
She looked up. The person had casually placed her phone on the table.
The strands of hair near the woman’s forehead were already soaked with fine sweat. The corners of her eyes were tinged with red. She narrowed her eyes slightly, but her expression was much deeper than before.
She was practically biting her tongue as she asked, word for word, “Are you an Alpha?”
Fang Xu looked up, her eyes full of confusion.
“You might be mistaken, I am not an Alpha,” she thought the woman might be confused because of her illness.
She was a Beta, so how could she be associated with an Alpha?
Fang Xu continued to ask the question she cared about: “Do you need me to contact your family or friends for you?”
As she asked, her gaze drifted to the phone that had just been taken from her.
It was the only tool for contacting the outside world.
Pei Yunci said no more. Using her last shred of strength, she grabbed the girl’s arm and pulled her close.
The distance instantly closed, and their breaths were nearly intertwined.
It was very hot, and the neglected burning sensation returned with a vengeance. Fang Xu’s already unstable breathing was completely disrupted.
Only then did she realize that the faint fragrance that had been lingering around her had become much more pronounced.
It was the scent of bellflower.
Bellflowers, freshly bloomed in the early morning light, carrying the cool mist.
Pei Yunci was half-leaning against the door and the table. Visually, she looked as if she were being held, but the sense of pressure emanating from her had not diminished at all.
She raised her hand and brushed aside the girl’s soft hair, eventually placing her fingers on a certain spot on her neck.
With a slight downward press, the girl’s body instantly tensed up.
Pei Yunci still used that slightly husky yet pleasant voice, saying lightly, “Little Alpha, smell this. Whose pheromone is this?”
The scent of a second pheromone emerged.
The sweet and sour scent of citrus burst open in the confined space, tightly intertwining with the rich bellflower fragrance.
Fang Xu’s mind went completely blank.
Her forehead and the tip of her nose were covered with a layer of fine sweat. The intertwining pheromones enveloped the two of them, making her body feel an uncontrollable urge.
Almost instinctively, she said, “I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s going on.”
In a flash of realization, Fang Xu remembered the unwrapped inhibitor that had fallen to the floor while they were talking.
Before she could bend down, Pei Yunci knew what she was going to do: “It’s useless. It’s an Omega-specific inhibitor.”
It has no effect on an Alpha.
Hearing this, Fang Xu immediately took two steps back and said, “Then I’ll leave immediately.”
No matter what, an Alpha and an Omega in heat should never stay together.
Pei Yunci was not in much better shape. The strength supporting her body was slowly decreasing. The overflowing Alpha pheromones made her gland even more restless.
Even so, she still grabbed the girl who was trying to rush out and prevented her from opening the isolation room door.
“Where are you going?”
Pei Yunci was weak, holding the girl’s wrist loosely, making it easy to break free.
Fang Xu didn’t move, obediently standing in place, enduring the unfamiliar physical reaction, and replied, “Outside.”
Her mind was confused and blank. She didn’t know where to go and couldn’t name a specific location, only one thought: get away from the Omega in front of her.
“…”
Pei Yunci’s already moist eyelashes fluttered. Looking at the person in front of her, she felt for the first time that her judgment might be flawed.
When they were outside, she had thought that since the person could get into Jiangcheng University, they shouldn’t be stupid and could be helpful.
She hadn’t expected a simpleton.
Pei Yunci had observed the area upon entering the rest zone. “There’s only one isolation room nearby. Are you just going to walk out like this with your pheromones?”
She was uncomfortable, and her speech was less fluid than before, coming out in fragments, but Fang Xu understood.
If she went outside, she would cause a greater disturbance.
Her eyes blinked. Her breathing was a little ragged, but the inherent docility on her body was still undisguised: “Then where should I go?”
It seemed that whatever Pei Yunci said, she would do.
Their eyes met.
The doctor’s words, her current predicament, and the Alpha pheromones that hadn’t caused an excessive reaction in her own mind all flashed through Pei Yunci’s head.
She raised her hand, removed the girl’s thick glasses, and looked at those clear, moist eyes. She turned slightly, exposing the gland at the back of her neck.
“Bite, can you?”
