After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 16
The two finished their discussion and were preparing to leave the hospital.
Pei Yunci said to Du Xing’an, “If there are no other issues, we’ll be going now.”
Since it was on her way, she asked Fang Xu to ride with her.
After all, she was the one who tricked the person into coming, so it was only right to take her back.
“There are no other major issues, just ensure the stable marking remains,” Du Xing’an said. Then, she suddenly remembered something and leaned in to ask in a very low voice, “Did you really let the good student sleep at your apartment?”
She still found it somewhat unbelievable.
If she didn’t know the beginning of their acquaintance, Du Xing’an would have suspected that her good friend harbored some ulterior motives for the good student.
“It was too late,” Pei Yunci said flatly.
She was completely unaware of her own double standard.
“It was very late when I left, too!” Du Xing’an protested.
Pei Yunci glanced at her lightly, “She’s quiet and doesn’t gossip.”
Du Xing’an: “…”
Sitting in the car, Fang Xu was less constrained than the first time, but still sat very properly.
Pei Yunci was not as serious as usual, and her posture was relaxed: “I’m going abroad for a business trip tomorrow.”
A project overseas required her to go personally, and incidentally, check up on her illegitimate younger brother who was secretly causing trouble.
Fang Xu didn’t understand why she was telling her about her itinerary, but still said, “Have a safe trip.”
Pei Yunci hummed, “Will your scent gland hurt these two days? Do you need pheromones?”
After being marked by an Alpha, the scent gland is generally guaranteed to be stable for a month, so no further marking is needed for the time being.
Fang Xu hadn’t expected her to bring this up suddenly. She glanced at the driver and the assistant in the passenger seat, and heat instantly rushed to her face.
She quickly shook her head, her speaking speed faster than usual: “It doesn’t hurt, I don’t need pheromones for now.”
Pei Yunci: “Really? Don’t be embarrassed, this is also part of the agreement.”
“Really,” Fang Xu emphasized.
She wasn’t lying. These days, when she took off the suppressor patch, she could feel a faint scent of balloon flower from her scent gland.
It also reminded her from time to time of the young and awkward marking back then.
Pei Yunci looked at the person next to her whose face was flushed. Her gaze swept past the driver and assistant who were staring straight ahead, and she didn’t ask again, letting out a light chuckle.
Fang Xu: “…”
She inexplicably felt like she was being completely seen through.
The car stopped across the street from Jiangcheng University. After Fang Xu got out, she turned around and waved first: “I’ll head back to school now.”
Pei Yunci hummed, “Goodbye.”
Only after watching the girl’s figure disappear around the corner did she allow the driver to leave.
The flight departed from Jiangcheng Airport, and Fang Xu continued to be busy.
In the second semester of junior year, the professional class would collect everyone’s future development intentions. Over the next year, relevant information would be precisely pushed, covering postgraduate studies, school selection, campus recruitment, research institute recruitment, and so on.
However, after filling out the form yesterday, her mentor called her into the office today.
Fang Xu’s mentor was around fifty years old, with not much hair left, but a very amiable person. She had been guiding Fang Xu since freshman year and really appreciated the girl.
She held her thermos cup and slowly asked, “Fang Xu, I see you filled out the intention form to directly enter the workforce after graduation. Are you not planning to pursue further studies?”
“That’s right, Professor,” Fang Xu had already anticipated this conversation when submitting the form. “I have considered it seriously, and starting work directly is more suitable.”
The mentor took a sip of hot tea, feeling a little reluctant: “If you have financial difficulties with tuition, I can help.”
“I still have openings for postgraduate students here. If you want to study for a master’s degree, you can apply directly. If you want to work part-time, you can, I won’t interfere with those matters.”
To be fair, although Fang Xu was only a junior, her professional knowledge and abilities were no worse than those of the graduate students she guided. She was also self-disciplined and hardworking, naturally a good candidate for scientific research.
Fang Xu gently curved her lips: “Thank you, Professor, but I’ve already made up my mind.”
Three years ago, when she applied for the computer science major, her plan had already been mapped out until today and would not change.
Even if the tuition for postgraduate studies could be solved by herself, her sister was still in high school and would eventually need to attend college and graduate school.
Without savings, there would be risk, and Fang Xu was unwilling to let her sister bear that risk.
“Alright, I can’t force you,” the mentor sighed, but affection could still be heard in her tone: “If you have time in the future, you can still participate in high-value competitions with your senior and junior classmates.”
Everyone has their own life to live, and she shouldn’t interfere too much.
Fang Xu knew the other person wasn’t blaming her and was still thinking of helping her add to her resume. She smiled and nodded: “I will, thank you, Professor.”
The mentor also smiled: “I know you students are busy, I won’t hold you up. You should also inform your counselor.”
Fang Xu’s grades were excellent, and she was well-known among specialized course professors and counselors. The decision not to apply for a recommendation for postgraduate studies surprised most people.
Fang Xu nodded: “I will, goodbye Professor.”
After leaving her mentor’s office, she thought for a moment and went directly to the counselor’s office, saving some time.
Similar dissuasion was met with the same firm refusal.
A major feature of Jiangcheng University was “freedom.”
No curfews, the campus forum allowed discussion as long as it didn’t cross the bottom line, and general education courses had no set scope, maximizing the freedom for students to explore without constraint.
Under this kind of freedom, the counselor could only try to persuade her a few times and ultimately respected Fang Xu’s decision.
Knowing that the teachers were doing it for her own good made the rejection feel awkward. After leaving the office, Fang Xu finally felt much lighter.
With this matter resolved, she wholeheartedly threw herself into her plan.
Apart from the tutoring time, she was busy sending out applications for internships and working on her small game.
Even though her learning ability was strong, the progress of the game wasn’t fast.
However, Fang Xu wasn’t anxious. She worked steadily, learning as she went, not only making the game but also continuously expanding her knowledge base.
The only drawback was the lack of time.
Sleeping time had been compressed to six hours, but it was still tight. She often started working on the computer in the daytime, and by the time she finished, it was the middle of the night.
This evening, Fang Xu was on the first floor of the library.
Next to the floor-to-ceiling window, one could clearly see the scenery outside.
“What a beautiful sunset!” The person across from her whispered to a friend.
Fang Xu’s eyes were initially sore, and she was resting them with her eyes closed. Hearing this, she looked outside as well.
Large swaths of orange, amber, and pink sunset, like an oil painting splashed with the most brilliant colors. Two or three birds flew across, making many people in the library pull out their cameras.
Fang Xu admired it for a moment and then pressed the camera button.
The scene was captured. She opened her message list and looked at the chat box pinned to the top.
Since Pei Yunci went abroad, she must be very busy, and the two hadn’t chatted again.
After hesitating for a moment, she intended to go back.
But the person standing by the window taking pictures accidentally bumped her arm, and her fingertip landed on the screen, sending the photo out.
Fang Xu’s heart stopped for a second.
“I’m so sorry,” the girl who bumped her quickly apologized, “Are you okay?”
Fang Xu gently shook her head, mindful that they were in the library, and whispered, “It’s fine.”
After speaking, she looked at the photo in the chat box again.
Unsending it would only make it more awkward, so Fang Xu simply pretended not to notice. She returned to the previous page and sent the photo to her sister instead.
【Yiyi: Sis, it’s so pretty! It’s raining here in Yucheng!】
【Fang Xu: Put on an extra jacket, don’t get sick.】
In the first semester of her freshman year, she hadn’t fully adapted to school life and still needed to find a suitable part-time job, so she chatted less with Fang Yi due to the busyness.
Who knew that her sister got sick and deliberately hid it from her? She had a persistent high fever and fainted due to low blood sugar while going downstairs to buy breakfast. She was then sent to the hospital by an old lady who ran a stall, which prevented any serious accident.
When she rushed back to Yucheng, Fang Xu was angry and heartbroken at the same time.
Before she could even say a word, Yiyi on the hospital bed hugged her and cried, which made her unable to hold back her own tears.
The doctor doing rounds at the time came over and saw the two people hugging and crying, thinking something major had happened.
The incident passed without major danger, but Fang Xu learned her lesson and now chatted with her sister every day.
【Yiyi: Got it, Sis, you should also stay up late less!】
【Yiyi: By the way, will Sister Song Shu be returning to Yucheng with you for the Qingming holiday?】
When she saw this name, Fang Xu’s fingertips paused.
She had been busy building the game framework recently, and the unexpected marking had distracted her. She rarely thought of the other person anymore, and the sad emotions had also lessened a lot.
【Fang Xu: Yiyi, Song Shu and I have broken up.】
Yiyi had met Song Shu during a holiday before and knew about their relationship, but Fang Xu had forgotten to tell her sister about the breakup.
After a moment, a message popped up from the other side.【Yiyi: Sis, don’t be sad. People always need to fall in love and break up a few times to have no regrets!】
【Yiyi: My sister is so great, it must be her fault!】
【Yiyi: [Cat head-pat.gif]】
Hearing that they broke up, she stopped calling her Sister Song Shu.
Warmed by her sister’s protectiveness, a slight curve appeared on Fang Xu’s lips.
【Fang Xu: It’s okay, I’m just letting you know.】
【Fang Xu: We broke up peacefully, there’s no right or wrong. Don’t discuss her behind her back either.】
【Yiyi: Got it! I won a scholarship. When I get back, I’ll treat you to all the barbecue you want!】
After chatting with her sister, Fang Xu recovered some energy.
She returned to her seat, switched to another page, and started submitting resumes.
Fang Xu’s target companies were mainly famous gaming companies and research and development companies focused on high-tech and high intelligence.
She had already gathered the information for these companies over the past few days, organized it into a document, and could now apply directly by cross-referencing.
Half an hour later, Fang Xu paused, looking at the name ‘Pei Group’ on the page.
The Pei Group mainly deals with the electronics industry, and its product coverage is quite extensive.
Inhibitor bracelets used by two-thirds of the population, user-friendly home robots, or the highly praised gaming consoles… and it was continuously expanding related industries.
Internships at the Pei Group offer a chance for full-time conversion, and even if the conversion fails, the company’s name would be a strong highlight on her resume.
Fang Xu struggled for a moment, but still clicked the “Submit” button, sending her basic information.
She might not even get in, so she should at least try.
