After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 15
Pheromone level detection. The doctor had mentioned this when she first woke up in the hospital.
However, Fang Xu hadn’t done the test at the time, and she hadn’t thought about it again after being discharged.
She tapped the message open and replied truthfully.
[Fang Xu: Not yet. Is there a problem?]
[Pei Yunci: My doctor said she needs to know your pheromone level.]
[Fang Xu: Then I’ll go to the hospital for the test now.]
[Pei Yunci: No rush. Are you in class?]
It was just a text message, but for some reason, Fang Xu could almost picture the other person’s tone: cool yet with a hint of tenderness.
She touched her ear and typed with her head down.
[Fang Xu: I’m not in class. I have time right now.]
[Pei Yunci: Then just come here. I happen to be around.]
Attached to the message was the address of a private hospital.
[Fang Xu: Why are you at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?]
Though the focus was strange, Pei Yunci’s fingertips moved, sensing the concern in the message.
[Pei Yunci: No, just a routine check-up.]
[Fang Xu: Okay, I’m heading over now.]
Closing the chat window, Pei Yunci looked up and met a pair of meaningful eyes.
“What are you chatting about? You seem so happy,” Du Xing’an asked, squinting.
Pei Yunci’s voice was flat: “Am I?”
Du Xing’an snorted: “I have hawk eyes, you can’t hide it from me.”
“Don’t overthink it,” Pei Yunci said, getting to the main point: “Help arrange a pheromone level test. Fang Xu is coming over.”
“Alright,” Du Xing’an was serious about professional matters. After instructing her assistant, she returned: “Your test results are also out.”
“The indicators for your gland and internal pheromones have improved, but due to the excessive use of inhibitors early on, it will take time to recover slowly.”
Pei Yunci hummed: “About a year?”
“Approximately,” Du Xing’an glanced over the various professional terms and numbers, “If you have more Alpha pheromone contact, you can recover faster.”
This was not much different from what was said before. Pei Yunci recalled something and asked: “After an Alpha’s secondary differentiation, will they become temporarily dependent on an Omega’s pheromones?”
“Secondary differentiation often occurs later, leading to various symptoms. This is just a mild, quite common one,” Du Xing’an explained, only realizing halfway through: “Is it Fang Xu?”
Pei Yunci nodded: “She mentioned it before.”
Du Xing’an: “Then you two are quite a match.”
Pei Yunci gave her a look: “Watch your words. She’s still a student.”
“My mistake, my mistake,” Du Xing’an also realized this and dropped the topic: “But why did you ask her to come over for a level test? I never asked for that.”
There were indeed grade differences between different Alphas and Omegas, but they generally didn’t affect daily life.
Unless one party in a couple had a pheromone level that was too low to complete the mark.
Du Xing’an guessed: “Is her pheromone level too low? No, wait, the report showed her mark was effective…”
Her voice paused, and then she said incredulously: “Then is her level too high?”
To make an S-class Omega suspect the level is high, it must be at least A-class.
Pei Yunci lowered her eyes, not jumping to conclusions: “Just a suspicion.”
When Fang Xu arrived at the hospital, someone was waiting at the entrance and led her inside.
Seeing the standing back figure, Fang Xu’s nervousness in the unfamiliar environment lessened: “Yunci?”
“You’re here?” Pei Yunci turned around, her tone softer than usual: “Sorry to make you rush over here.”
The doctor hadn’t required it; that message was a lie to the other party. She just wanted to know the other party’s level.
Seeing the message of concern, Pei Yunci felt a rare, subtle guilt about deceiving a young person.
Fang Xu slightly pursed her lips upwards: “It’s no trouble. I needed to get tested anyway. Should I do it now?”
Du Xing’an, who had been observing, spoke up: “Yes, I’ll take you.”
This was the first time she had seen her.
Very ordinary student attire, but the glasses seemed ill-fitting, obscuring most of her face. When there were many people, she looked unremarkable, easy to overlook.
However, her every move carried the youthful vitality and purity of a young person. Coupled with the backpack she wore, she looked like a good student, which naturally made people feel favorable towards her.
“Okay,” Fang Xu replied, then looked at Pei Yunci again and said, “I’ll go first then.”
Pei Yunci nodded slightly: “Go ahead.”
Du Xing’an led her to the testing room: “You can peel off the inhibitor patch first, and then slowly release your pheromones.”
Fang Xu did as instructed, looking at the instrument screen in front of her.
Du Xing’an was a Beta and couldn’t smell pheromones. Noticing her gaze, she explained: “It takes about ten minutes. The results will only appear after the pheromone concentration stabilizes.”
Fang Xu nodded and sat quietly, waiting.
Du Xing’an rarely encountered people like her in her daily life and was a little curious, asking: “Why did you agree to Pei Yunci’s request?”
She spoke of the person familiarly, suggesting they were friends.
Fang Xu thought for a moment and replied: “Suitable, I suppose.”
Du Xing’an: “…”
It was rare to meet someone who was even more tight-lipped than Pei Yunci.
“She marked you at the apartment she took you to?” Du Xing’an was bored waiting and chatted idly: “One has to say, she’s a true capitalist, making you come over at night and rush back in the middle of the night.”
She understood her friend; the other party was usually at the company during the day, so marking would only be scheduled for the evening.
It was originally a joke, but as she spoke, Du Xing’an felt that Pei Yunci hadn’t acted appropriately enough.
The person in front of her was a good student at Jiangcheng University, unlike ordinary Alphas.
She offered: “Next time, remember to ask a driver to take you back to school. Pei Yunci will agree.”
Fang Xu was first confused, then, realizing, she didn’t want the other party to misunderstand and explained: “No, Yunci let me sleep in the guest room.”
Du Xing’an exclaimed, “Where did you sleep?”
Fang Xu still answered seriously: “The guest room.”
Du Xing’an: “…Huh?”
She took a deep breath, just about to say something, when Fang Xu pointed to the screen in front: “The test result seems to be out.”
Du Xing’an’s attention was diverted, and she operated a button: “S-class.”
Even though she was a Beta before, Fang Xu knew what S-class meant.
Her expression froze slightly: “Is the test accurate?”
“Maybe we should test it again?” Du Xing’an was also a little unsure: “What do you think?”
Fang Xu nodded. After the instrument was reset to its initial level, she began releasing pheromones again.
Du Xing’an sat next to her and said: “Speaking of which, when you tested as S-class just now, you didn’t seem very happy?”
“Maybe because S-class and C-class don’t make much difference to me,” Fang Xu replied.
Having been a Beta before, she was used to being inconspicuous.
The person in front of her looked young, but her words carried an unexpected calmness and maturity.
Du Xing’an seemed to understand why her good friend would look at this Alpha differently.
She added another sentence: “But Pei Yunci probably doesn’t like high-level Alphas.”
Fang Xu’s heart suddenly leaped, and she tentatively asked, “Why?”
This wasn’t a secret; people in the aristocratic families all knew. Du Xing’an said in a low tone: “High-level Alphas and Omegas affect each other. Someone like Pei Yunci definitely wouldn’t want to be restricted by anyone else.”
“Also, before, there was a high-level Alpha who tried to force a marriage alliance using pheromones. It was disgusting.”
After Pei Yunci took over the Pei Group, it developed even more rapidly. Many aristocratic families wanted to jump on the bandwagon, and a marriage alliance with the Pei family was a good option.
“Too bad he was too stupid. Out of all the methods, he chose to try and force the situation. How could Yunci let him have his way? Not long after he released his pheromones, Yunci smashed a cup and destroyed his gland.”
Hearing this, Fang Xu was relieved instead: “It’s good that she wasn’t hurt.”
“You don’t seem scared at all,” Du Xing’an smiled.
It happened at a banquet. The Alpha’s gland was cut open, and his screams drew everyone’s attention. There was blood everywhere on the floor, and many people covered their eyes.
After this incident, Pei Yunci’s reputation for being difficult to provoke grew even stronger.
Fang Xu: “He was forcing an Omega first. Yunci was just acting in self-defense. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
“Exactly. I even thought Yunci was too light on him,” Du Xing’an also detested such behavior.
As they spoke, the instrument lights came on again. The second test was complete.
Du Xing’an checked and sobered up from her usual lightheartedness: “It’s S-class. No mistake.”
Fang Xu took the report slip. Before she could speak, she heard a knock on the door: “Are you done?”
It was Pei Yunci’s voice.
Du Xing’an opened the door: “Yes, done. Why did you come over?”
Pei Yunci’s tone showed no obvious fluctuation: “It took a while. I came to check.”
As she spoke, her gaze rested on the girl in the room.
Du Xing’an looked between the two, feeling like a glowing lightbulb. She was unusually sensible: “Then you two chat. I’ll go check the wards.”
In a moment, she disappeared from their sight.
Pei Yunci left the testing room, found a rest area, and sat down before speaking: “Finished the test?”
“Yes,” Fang Xu also sat opposite her and took out the report slip: “It’s S-class.”
Pei Yunci’s gaze lowered, scanning the conclusion. It matched her suspicion.
“Congratulations.”
An S-class Alpha, combined with a Jiangcheng University education, could be considered a standout among young people.
“Thank you.” Fang Xu hesitated, trying to speak.
Pei Yunci was extremely sharp: “What did Xing’an say to you just now?”
Fang Xu opened her mouth, a subtle flash of disappointment crossing her heart: “She just said that you might not like high-level Alphas.”
“She’s not wrong,” Pei Yunci lightly tapped the table with her knuckle. “I genuinely don’t like them.”
She was an S-class Omega. Even if her pheromones went out of control, she could use her grade to suppress an Alpha, preventing them from making rash moves. This was why she didn’t completely lose her mind in the isolation room at the time and could still let someone mark her.
But if the other party was also S-class, this suppressive effect would be minimal, increasing the risk.
Fang Xu’s heart sank again: “I’m sorry. We haven’t signed the agreement yet. We can…”
Before she finished, a document was pushed towards her.
It was the agreed-upon contract, and the Party A had already signed her name.
The strokes were sharp; the three characters “Pei Yunci” were written exceptionally beautifully.
Pei Yunci looked at the girl, slightly raising an eyebrow: “What, do you think I’ll back out?”
Fang Xu was still a little confused: “It’s okay if you back out.”
Since the other party was ill, it was only right to find a more suitable person.
Pei Yunci didn’t respond, only asking: “If you become a high-level Alpha, will you violate my wishes and forcibly mark me? Will you use pheromones to suppress me? Or will you intentionally induce my heat cycle?”
Fang Xu answered without thinking: “Of course not!”
Pei Yunci also silently repeated those four words in her heart: That’s enough.
All Alphas would promise this, but so far, only the well-behaved girl in front of her had actually kept the promise.
She continued: “Now that you know your grade, you should also know that the influence between high-level Alphas and Omegas is deeper.”
“In this relationship, I won’t offer any feelings other than cooperation, and I hope the same for you. If you want to back out now or modify the agreement, we can still discuss it.”
This was also the original purpose of calling her to the hospital.
Fang Xu was very smart and guessed the hidden meaning in her words, saying seriously: “I won’t. I absolutely will not cross the line.”
“If you feel uncomfortable at any time, you can terminate the agreement whenever you like.”
Her relationship with Song Shu had already been a failure, and she had no extra mental capacity for this matter.
“That’s good. You also have the right to terminate,” Pei Yunci didn’t think she would fall for anyone, but she still offered equal respect.
The agreement was in duplicate. Fang Xu picked up the pen and lowered her head to sign her name seriously on the paper.
Pei Yunci looked at the girl’s features and suddenly spoke: “Xiao Xu.”
“Hm?” Fang Xu paused her pen and looked up.
Pei Yunci: “Even if I don’t like high-level Alphas, it’s not your fault. You don’t need to apologize.”
Fang Xu’s heart felt like it was on a roller coaster. It had just hit rock bottom, but now it was light and airy, unable to conceal her delight.
She slightly pursed her lips: “I know.”
