After the Nerd Marked the Top Omega - Chapter 13
The Next Day
At six o’clock in the morning.
Pei Yunci has a fixed biological clock. After waking up, she habitually reaches for the inhibitor on her bedside table.
It was only when she was about to tear it open that she remembered she had been marked last night.
Right, that Alpha should still be at my place.
Opening the bedroom door, Pei Yunci met the gaze of the person who had also just emerged.
She spoke first, “Waking up so early?”
Pei Yunci was dressed in sleepwear, her hair slightly messy, revealing a patch of white collarbone. A faint scent of intertwining Alpha and Omega pheromones could also be detected.
Fang Xu averted her gaze, not daring to look around, “Yes, this is my usual wake-up time.”
Pei Yunci casually asked, “Getting up to study?”
If so, it fit the impression of a good student that Fang Xu had left on her.
Fang Xu didn’t hide anything, “First, a run, and then maybe study or organize materials for tutoring.”
Pei Yunci hummed, walked to the kitchen, and asked, “What would you like to eat?”
Most of the time, she ate at the company or outside. Only on rare occasions would she ask the housekeeper to come over and cook.
Fang Xu watched Pei Yunci’s actions and asked with some hesitation, “You’re going to make it?”
“What’s wrong?” Pei Yunci glanced at the refrigerator, “Sandwiches and milk, is that okay?”
Fang Xu was naturally not picky, “That’s fine.”
The sandwiches were already made; all she needed to do was remove the cling film and heat them in the microwave.
In less than five minutes, breakfast for the two of them was ready.
A meal where there was absolutely no need to worry about cooking skills.
While eating the sandwich, Fang Xu noticed that the drink by her hand was milk, while the person across from her had coffee.
Perhaps the other person had already observed this preference at the coffee shop, which was why they hadn’t poured her coffee since they entered the apartment.
Her heart was momentarily touched.
A moment later, Pei Yunci looked at the empty plate in front of the girl and asked, “Are you full?”
Knowing that Alphas generally had a larger appetite, she had heated an extra sandwich for her.
“Yes,” Fang Xu didn’t lie this time, “I’m full.”
Pei Yunci: “Do you want me to give you a ride back to school?”
Fang Xu had also been to Pei Corporation, “It’s not on the way. I can go back by myself.”
“Alright, be careful on the road.” Pei Yunci didn’t insist.
After saying goodbye, Fang Xu put on her backpack and gently closed the door.
With a soft “click,” the apartment returned to silence.
The pheromones from last night had long been purified clean. Even the creases on the sofa had been smoothed out before the other person left, as if no Alpha had ever been there.
Pei Yunci replaced the inhibitor patch from last night. Her fingertip brushed over her scent gland; the tooth marks left by the other person were still there. Compared to her usual pain, the discomfort in her scent gland was much lighter.
It seemed she hadn’t chosen the wrong person.
Song Shu had tossed the professional course essay to Fang Xu back then, but the latter hadn’t sent it to her before the two of them broke up.
It was only when she saw the teaching assistant’s reminder that she remembered the matter.
Time was tight, so she could only stay up late writing it off-campus.
After an all-nighter at the coffee shop, the sky was dimly lit when she came out, around six in the morning.
Song Shu yawned. As she approached the school gate, she saw a familiar figure.
Fang Xu?
She paused. Fang Xu’s life was very solitary, revolving around classes and part-time jobs. Why would she be returning from outside at this hour?
Song Shu wanted to confirm it again, but when she looked again, the figure had already disappeared from view.
Realizing what she was thinking, Song Shu immediately withdrew her gaze and stopped concerning herself with the matter.
Since the other person had broken up with her, where she went at night was none of her business.
When Fang Xu arrived at the dorm, Tang Xingxing and Liu Hanxue were not yet awake.
She softened her footsteps, put down her backpack, and then opened the contacts on her phone.
[Fang Xu: Yi Yi, are you up?]
Fang Yi is her younger sister. Seven years ago, their Alpha mother and Omega mother passed away unexpectedly in a car accident.
They had been working overtime that night and had called home before returning, saying they would bring back late-night snacks.
But what Fang Xu received was a call from the police.
The hit-and-run driver was found and brought in twelve hours later.
Fourteen-year-old Fang Xu sat on a side chair in the police station, leaning against the cold wall, and saw the person. She could even smell the lingering alcohol.
As the person walked by, she covered her sister’s eyes, her palm drenched with tears.
The perpetrator’s family was also not well-off and was even in debt. The final compensation they could provide was only thirty thousand.
Fang Xu’s grandparents had passed away, and relatives in the family offered some help, but no one wanted to raise two extra children.
Accompanied by a pro bono lawyer, she accepted the thirty thousand yuan handed over by the perpetrator’s wife, who was holding a child in her arms.
The night after the funeral, Fang Xu took out all the family’s savings and calculated them one by one.
The mortgage was fully paid off last year, so there wasn’t much money at home. Including the compensation, the total was one hundred thousand two hundred and fifty-one yuan.
She held her sister, whose eyes were swollen from crying, and felt the weight of responsibility for the first time.
The tuition and living expenses for both of them, plus a non-trivial illness Fang Yi had suffered during which she stayed in the hospital for two weeks.
Excluding the modest scholarships, the bank card saw only withdrawals. In her second year of high school, Fang Xu had already started trying part-time jobs, but she didn’t earn much.
One night, she even considered dropping out.
But the moment the thought arose, it was suppressed. Fang Xu knew that if she dropped out, her future life wouldn’t be any easier.
Fortunately, she performed well in the college entrance examination and got into Jiangcheng University, earning scholarships every year, which prevented her from being completely stretched thin.
[Yi Yi: Sis, I’m already up and getting ready to go to school!]
Fang Yi is now in her first year of high school. Her grades are excellent, and even though her workload isn’t light, she is one of those who arrives at school early.
Fang Xu lowered her eyes and transferred another two thousand yuan to her.
[Fang Xu: Have you had breakfast?]
Her sister is young but very sensible. Knowing her sister has to work part-time in college to earn money, she is very frugal in her daily life.
[Yi Yi: Sis, I haven’t finished the money you gave me last month. You should keep it yourself.]
[Yi Yi: I had breakfast, soybean milk and fried dough sticks bought downstairs.]
Along with the message, she sent a photo to prove she wasn’t lying.
[Fang Xu: I still have money. I’ve taken on two tutoring jobs for competitions. Your school needs to buy study materials next week, right?]
She had joined the class’s parent group and was regularly paying attention to the information shared there.
[Fang Yi: The teacher did mention the materials, but I think the school’s study materials aren’t as valuable as your notes, Sis. I don’t really need to buy them.]
Seeing this message, Fang Xu knew what her sister was thinking.
[Fang Xu: The materials recommended by the teacher are definitely useful.]
[Yi Yi: [Image]]
The other person sent another photo of a report card.
[Yi Yi: Sis, but I got first place again in the latest monthly exam. The study materials are completely unnecessary.]
[Fang Xu: It’s always good to have more materials, or I can just transfer the money directly to your homeroom teacher.]
She understood her sister’s grades and had gone through high school herself, so she knew the limited effect of study materials.
However, if everyone else had the materials and only Fang Yi didn’t, some people would inevitably overthink it.
Teenagers’ minds are always sensitive, and Fang Xu didn’t want her sister to feel wronged.
[Yi Yi: Fine, fine, I’ll definitely buy them.]
[Yi Yi: Oh, right, Sis, when are you going on break?]
Fang Xu’s home is in the adjacent Yicheng, which isn’t far, but the round trip takes nearly a day, so she doesn’t usually go back on weekends.
[Fang Xu: I’ll go back during the Qingming holiday.]
[Fang Xu: Is there anything you want? I can buy it for you when I go back.]
[Yi Yi: Not yet. I’ll ask you when I need something.]
[Fang Xu: Okay.]
Fang Xu was about to end the conversation, but thinking of something, she sent another message.
[Fang Xu: Oh, right Yi Yi, I had a secondary differentiation into an Alpha.]
This was a big event, but she was so used to being a Beta that she only now remembered to tell her.
[Yi Yi: Secondary Differentiation!]
Fang Yi had differentiated last year, also into an Alpha, so she understood the related knowledge.
[Yi Yi: When did this happen? Sis, are you feeling okay? Did you go to the hospital for a check-up?]
Finding typing too slow, she simply sent a long string of voice messages, asking questions even more detailed than a professional doctor.
A faint smile crossed Fang Xu’s eyes. Without being dismissive, she answered each of her sister’s questions.
[Fang Xu: Don’t worry, there’s no problem now.]
[Yi Yi: That’s good! Sis, I’m almost at school. Let’s chat tonight. I still have a few problems I don’t understand!]
Although her sister didn’t demand it, Fang Yi always turned off her phone and silenced it before entering the school gate.
Fang Xu also knew her sister’s habit.
[Fang Xu: Okay, feel free to message me if anything comes up.]
Before she could exit the chat window, another message popped up.
Fang Xu, who had been relaxed, slightly straightened up.
[Pei Yunci: Have you reached school?]
[Fang Xu: Yes, I’m already in the dorm.]
[Pei Yunci: Good. This is the revised agreement. See if there are any other issues.]
Fang Xu carefully reviewed it. The content had been modified according to what she had said at the time.
[Fang Xu: No problems.]
[Pei Yunci: Then just sign it when you have time.]
[Pei Yunci: Oh, right, would you mind sending me a copy of your class schedule? I’ll try to message you at appropriate times later.]
Fang Xu was slightly stunned, then realized the other person was following the agreement.
Her nervousness suddenly lessened a lot. She felt that the person on the other side of the screen was unexpectedly gentle, not entirely the same as the person rumored to be.
Fang Xu sent her class schedule and did not forget to add a supplement.
[Fang Xu: If you’re feeling unwell, you can message me anytime. Some classes can be skipped.]
She took many courses in her first two years, and by the second semester of her junior year, there weren’t many required professional courses left.
Fang Xu was serious about her studies, but she wouldn’t spend too much energy on some general education courses. Completing the course requirements was enough. She would also do her own things during the remaining class time, and skipping wouldn’t be a big problem.
She sent the message, but there was no immediate reply.
After a moment, the light blue profile picture frame popped up again.
[Pei Yunci: Study hard.]
Fang Xu’s face instantly flushed.
“Xuxu, why is your face so hot?” Tang Xingxing got up from bed and saw her good friend’s face was extremely red. “Do you have a fever?”
Hearing the sound, Fang Xu subconsciously turned off the screen, then turned her head and said, “No, maybe I’m just wearing a bit too much.”
“It’s fine to wear more in the morning,” Tang Xingxing was still a little groggy, “Oh, right, did you not come back last night?”
“Yes,” Fang Xu was uncharacteristically guilty, “I was at an off-campus coffee shop.”
The matter of the marking involved Pei Yunci, and she couldn’t directly tell her good friend.
Hearing “coffee shop,” Tang Xingxing understood and joked, “I knew it! You wouldn’t possibly be like others, meeting up with an Omega at night or something.”
“Aside from studying, nothing else could make you stay out all night!”
Even with Song Shu, she would obediently return to the dorm after picking her up.
Fang Xu: “…”
