Chapter 67: She Has Given Shen Yu So Little Sec.
Night fell.
In winter, the south often had sleet, which made a soft sound as it hit the windowpane.
Inside the room, Shen Yu turned on the warm air conditioning. The temperature was set low; two people in love, embracing, wouldn’t feel hot.
It was very late now. Shen Yu held Wen Xi, her mind clear, without a hint of sleepiness.
She watched Wen Xi in the darkness, her gaze tracing Wen Xi’s features inch by inch. A little liar, she thought to herself.
Wen Xi suddenly woke up with a start.
Her hand involuntarily twitched. After a few ragged breaths, she turned her head to look at Shen Yu beside her.
Shen Yu quickly pulled Wen Xi into her arms and gently patted her back. “Did you have a nightmare?”
Wen Xi hesitated for a moment, then shook her head, defensively saying no.
Shen Yu continued to soothe Wen Xi without stopping.
Wen Xi drew back slightly, meeting Shen Yu’s clear eyes, which seemed to tell her that the person beside her hadn’t been asleep.
Wen Xi frowned slightly. “Why haven’t you slept yet?”
“I did sleep,” Shen Yu said softly. “I just woke up a little while ago.”
Wen Xi accused her, “Liar. What time is it? Why would you wake up in the middle of the night?”
Shen Yu paused her patting motion. “Didn’t you lie to me too? Saying you didn’t have a nightmare, yet your heart is racing.”
Wen Xi replied, “I just didn’t want you to worry about me.”
“Only people who don’t love you won’t worry about you,” Shen Yu said. “I worry about you because I love you, Baby. If you don’t tell me anything, I’ll feel like I’m failing.”
“…Why would you say that?” Wen Xi tugged on Shen Yu’s shirt corner. “I just don’t want you to have extra burdens or emotional stress.”
Shen Yu rested her chin on Wen Xi’s shoulder. “But I’ll feel like you don’t trust me, so you’re hiding things from me, worried I’ll interfere with your matters?”
Wen Xi’s heart tightened. She realized that somehow, she had already made Shen Yu feel this insecure.
But in a relationship, security is exceptionally important.
Wen Xi couldn’t see Shen Yu’s expression, only feeling Shen Yu hold her tighter, as if to knead her into her flesh, making it impossible to separate for all eternity.
Wen Xi raised her hand and slowly hugged Shen Yu’s back.
Wen Xi: “I dreamt about that night just now, but the difference was that you were a few steps behind me, and you suddenly decided to go back to my place. But you arrived at the wrong time, just seeing my hand being… I wanted you not to look, not to cry, that I wasn’t hurting.”
Wen Xi slightly closed her eyes, feeling as if she could still see Shen Yu’s wide, angry eyes. It was the first time Wen Xi had seen that expression, and she hoped it would be the last.
Wen Xi rubbed against Shen Yu. “And then I woke up.”
Wen Xi heard Shen Yu ask her, “Did it really not hurt?”
Wen Xi was silent for a moment, then laughed and answered, “It hurt so much. You know I’m most afraid of pain. I cried from the pain.”
“So,” Wen Xi hugged Shen Yu tightly, “you have to love me for life, understood? Otherwise, my pain would have been for nothing.”
After Wen Xi finished speaking, the air seemed to pause strangely for a few seconds. Not even Shen Yu’s breathing could be heard.
Wen Xi nervously clutched Shen Yu’s shirt corner. Their bodies were pressed close, and their heartbeats were exceptionally clear.
Shen Yu’s kisses fell on Wen Xi’s neck like fine rain. Wen Xi allowed Shen Yu’s affection until a scalding tear hit Wen Xi’s face.
Wen Xi froze, her hand resting on Shen Yu’s shoulder, wanting to pull back a little to check Shen Yu’s state.
But Shen Yu used her hand to hold Wen Xi back, saying fiercely, “Why are you hiding? You can’t hide, Baby. Didn’t you just say it? We’re going to be together for life.”
“You can only be with me,” Shen Yu said in a low voice. “You are mine.”
Wen Xi’s heart inexplicably softened. “I’m not hiding. We’re going to be together for life.”
The next morning, Wen Xi opened her eyes to the white ceiling. After a few seconds of realization, she slowly got up.
Shen Yu wasn’t in bed, but feeling the warmth beside her, Wen Xi estimated she hadn’t left long ago.
Sure enough, Shen Yu appeared before Wen Xi shortly, carrying breakfast. “Baby, I just ordered breakfast. Go wash up first.”
Wen Xi looked at Shen Yu’s face, a rare flash of anger in her eyes.
She forcefully threw the pillow behind her at Shen Yu. “I don’t want to see you!”
Shen Yu easily caught the pillow Wen Xi threw. “Baby, why are you like this? Other couples quarrel in bed and make up at the foot of the bed. Why are we quarreling in bed and out of bed?”
Wen Xi’s vision went black upon hearing that. Shen Yu’s emotions were off last night. Wen Xi felt uncomfortable at first but was too embarrassed to say anything. As a result, later on… it was too late to say anything.
Wen Xi’s face was beet red. Shen Yu’s gaze fell on Wen Xi’s neck. She silently pulled a turtleneck sweater from Wen Xi’s suitcase and handed it to her.
Wen Xi decided on a one-sided cold war with Shen Yu for an hour.
An hour later, Wen Xi asked, “What time are we leaving?”
Shen Yu: “We can leave once we’re ready.”
Wen Xi lightly coughed. “I’m ready!”
As she spoke, her eyes were shining as she looked at Shen Yu.
Shen Yu laughed, ruffled Wen Xi’s hair, and then helped her put on her hat. “Then let’s go.”
It wasn’t until she was led to the helicopter that Wen Xi had the real sense that Shen Yu was truly wealthy.
Shen Yu didn’t have a habit of being extravagant. When she was a student, Shen Yu always took her to places Wen Xi could afford and enjoyed. Wen Xi often insisted on splitting the bill with Shen Yu, although Shen Yu usually paid the larger share.
Wen Xi sighed dramatically. “The country bumpkin is going to the big city.”
Shen Yu merely gave Wen Xi a helpless look and buckled her up.
Throughout the journey, their hands were tightly intertwined.
The scenery from the helicopter was similar to that from an airplane, but the experience was different, and Wen Xi was very enthusiastic.
After landing, staff led them through the VIP channel.
Shen Yu then asked her, “Where do you want to stay?”
Wen Xi shook her head. “I don’t know. My house will be demolished in a few years. I don’t have a home in Sui City anymore. I can only rely on Miss Shen to take me in.”
Shen Yu looked at Wen Xi’s acting with amusement and told the driver a location.
Wen Xi was surprised. “That place…”
“After you left, I bought it,” Shen Yu patted the back of Wen Xi’s hand. “It’s always a commemoration.”
Wen Xi looked at Shen Yu, stopping herself from speaking.
Shen Yu understood Wen Xi’s meaning. “…I have housekeepers scheduled to clean it every week. It’s habitable.”
It was an old residential area, mostly populated by elderly residents. They weren’t very active online. Even if they saw Shen Yu, they would only find her familiar.
As long as they weren’t too conspicuous and seen by young people, this place was quite good, like a secluded paradise.
However, a few bodyguards still had to be kept nearby just in case, so a ready-to-move-in room was rented downstairs for them.
Shen Yu carried both Wen Xi’s and her own luggage upstairs with one hand, only breathing heavily a few times.
Wen Xi quietly clapped her hands, praising, “So strong, so strong!”
Shen Yu flicked Wen Xi’s forehead with her finger.
It wasn’t hard, but Wen Xi still covered her forehead, looking at her with an accusing stare.
Shen Yu smiled and opened the door.
Ten years had passed. The iron gate had been replaced, and the lock had changed to a fingerprint system.
Some furniture had also been updated, and the room had been renovated.
Wen Xi walked into the house and circled around. “You often came back to stay here.”
Shen Yu paused her action of unpacking her luggage, remained silent, and continued to put away her clothes.
Wen Xi walked over and poked Shen Yu. “Are you embarrassed?”
Shen Yu sighed, put the clothes on the bed, and then leaned over to hug Wen Xi. “You used to feel guilty when we talked about this topic. You’re much bolder now.”
Wen Xi laughed a few times. “Thanks to Ms. Shen’s good teaching.”
Wen Xi sighed internally, though. Shen Yu lived in a huge house, yet she chose to return to this small home of only sixty to seventy square meters.
Shen Yu quickly finished unpacking the luggage. They planned to stay here for three or four days.
It was close to noon now. Shen Yu picked up her phone, messaged someone, and then took Wen Xi downstairs.
This time, Shen Yu was driving, with Wen Xi in the passenger seat.
Wen Xi asked, “Where are we going?”
“To see someone, and then have a meal,” Shen Yu said.
Shen Yu didn’t elaborate, wanting to keep Wen Xi in suspense. Wen Xi didn’t ask further, turning her head to look at the familiar yet strange streets from her memory.
She had lived here for eighteen years. Now, standing back on her homeland, she felt a mixture of closeness and shyness.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t returned to Sui City. It was just that every time she came back, it was only to visit her parents’ grave to burn incense, spending less than half a day.
Wen Xi’s thoughts only fully returned when Shen Yu led her by the hand and opened the door to a private dining room.
To Wen Xi’s surprise, the first thing Shen Yu said was, “Call her Jiejie.”
Wen Xi looked at the young man opposite her who obediently said, “Jiejie.”
Wen Xi was momentarily confused. Shen Yu pulled Wen Xi’s hand and introduced him, “Shen Shi, my brother.”
Wen Xi knew of Shen Shi. She nodded and said to him, “Hello, CEO Shen. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Shen Shi quickly stepped back, waving his hands. His CEO aura vanished. “Jiejie, just call me Xiao Shi. You are my sister’s partner. We’re family now, so no need to be so formal.”
Wen Xi wanted to say something more, but Shen Yu pinched Wen Xi’s fingertip. “It’s just a family dinner. No need to be nervous.”
Shen Yu led Wen Xi to sit down. Shen Yu had already ordered Wen Xi’s favorite dishes before arriving, and the timing was just right now.
The atmosphere among the three wasn’t awkward. It was much better than meeting parents. However, Shen Yu wouldn’t bring Wen Xi to meet her “good father” and stepmother.
Wen Xi listened as Shen Yu and Shen Shi discussed company matters, occasionally mixing in a few sentences about Shen Yu’s hot search. The meal wasn’t boring, and Shen Yu kept placing food on her plate.
After the meal, the sunlight broke through the clouds and fell onto the ground. The sky had just cleared.
The two returned to the car. Shen Yu buckled Wen Xi’s seatbelt and then asked, “You’ve met my brother. When will you let me experience the feeling of meeting your family?”
Wen Xi met Shen Yu’s eyes, then smiled and looked away. “It’s different. I haven’t met your mother yet.”
“Then there’s no time like the present,” Shen Yu’s eyes softened. “Let’s make it today.”
Wen Xi opened her phone map and searched for a highly-rated flower shop nearby. “I need to buy a bouquet first. What does Auntie like?”
Shen Yu laughed. “No need. She doesn’t care about flowers. She’ll be happy just that you’ve gone to see her.”
“That won’t do,” Wen Xi said seriously. “Not caring is one thing; sending them is another. Seeing the flowers will make her heart happy.”
