- Chapter 21 - Making a Decision
“I have planned you into my future.”
Han Yan took a bite of the meat Chris had grilled.
Actually, Chris was quite skilled at the grill, but Han Yan’s palate had been spoiled by Adams. He turned around silently, holding his plate, and complained in a low voice to the culprit. “It is not as good as yours.”
Adams’ eyes lit up instantly. He turned around as if he were about to march over to Chris and start a fight, startling Han Yan into grabbing his arm.
“Hey, what are you going to do?”
“Trade places with him. I will do the grilling.”
Seeing Adams act as if this were the most natural thing in the world, Han Yan was stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter. He pulled Adams’ arm in the opposite direction.
“You are going to kick him off just to grill for me? What would that look like? Besides, if you grilled for everyone, you would be exhausted.”
Adams pursed his lips and spoke sincerely. “It does not matter if I grill for everyone. I just want you to be happy eating.”
Han Yan’s fingers twitched slightly, and for some reason, his heart gave a heavy, inexplicable thud. He gazed at Adams for a long while before reaching up to ruffle the back of the man’s head, letting out a nonchalant laugh.
“That will not do. Big brother would feel bad for you.”
Since the next day was the weekend, everyone let loose and drank freely. Han Yan remembered he had to wake up early to accompany Adams to look at houses. Fearing he would sleep too soundly if he overdid it, he only had a few bottles to satisfy his craving before bidding the group farewell.
Chris, holding a beer in his left hand and tongs in his right, shook his head at Han Yan and let out several judgmental clicks of his tongue. Han Yan’s fist tightened. With a skin deep smile, he dropped a parting shot. “I am just afraid that if I really drank, a certain someone would feel inferior.” Then, he made a graceful exit.
He left a tipsy Chris behind, held back by several people while waving his tongs and shouting about wanting a proper battle with Han Yan.
On the way back, Adams and Han Yan walked side by side. Their shadows on the ground were nearly huddled together.
“I saw you did not eat much just now. What do you want when we get back?”
While Han Yan had not eaten much barbecue, he had a stomach full of beer, to the point that his burps tasted like lager. He could not eat much else. He tickled Adams’ palm with his fingertip, only to be firmly caught as Adams interlaced their fingers.
“Do you not already know what I want to eat?” Han Yan arched an eyebrow. A beam of moonlight happened to spill into his eyes, drenching them in a silver glow like translucent glass with light and shadow swirling within.
Adams’ Adam’s apple bobbed. He leaned down and kissed Han Yan’s eyes. “Gorgeous.”
“Puppy, if you keep going, I cannot guarantee I will be able to get up tomorrow morning.”
Han Yan had one leg bent, his foot resting against Adams’ chest. His upper body leaned against the headboard, his skin covered in bite marks and deep red fingerprints around his waist. Under the bright light, they were exceptionally glaring, causing Adams’ gaze to darken.
Adams caught Han Yan’s ankle and pulled it over his shoulder. Han Yan slid down, his head sinking deep into the pillow. Adams turned his head to bite Han Yan’s calf, his teeth grazing the skin slowly. A muffled groan escaped Han Yan’s throat, and his muscles tensed instantly.
“It is okay. We can go a bit later.”
They did indeed go later. By the time they reached the city, it was nearly dinner time. Han Yan squinted and let out a lazy yawn. Fresh tooth marks were visible beneath his shirt collar, and his inner thighs had not been spared. Even sitting down caused a faint, stinging pain. He glanced at the man focused on driving and snorted inwardly.
One of these days, I really need to buy Adams a chew toy.
When they arrived at their destination, Han Yan, who had been drowsy, opened his eyes for a casual look. That single glance sent his sleepiness running for the hills.
Situated on a lush green lawn was a four story villa. The exterior featured an early 20th century Edwardian style with red brick and timber as the primary materials. It clearly had some years on it, carrying a heavy sense of history. Han Yan felt the house suited Adams’ personality perfectly. Personally, he preferred more avant garde designs.
Standing at the villa gates was a middle aged woman in a sharp, tailored suit. Her skin was a healthy tan, and her blonde hair was combed immaculately. She carried a briefcase. When she saw the car, she confirmed the license plate and stepped forward to knock on the window.
Adams rolled the window down, and the woman gave them a friendly smile. It was different from the fake, trademark smile of the agent Han Yan had found before. This was sincere, not fawning or flattering, making it easy to feel a sense of goodwill toward her.
“You must be Mr. Wilson, who scheduled the viewing today? Would you mind if I confirmed your ID?”
Adams nodded, pulled his ID from his wallet, and handed it over. The woman placed her briefcase at her feet and took the ID with both hands. After confirming it, she handed it back respectfully.
“Hello, I am Rachel Jones. It is a pleasure to meet you. I will be showing you the property today. Here is my card.”
Rachel handed them each a card. Han Yan took it and glanced at it. Oh? So it is this agent. He had wondered why the name sounded so familiar; she was the industry renowned, top tier real estate agent, Rachel Jones.
A wealthy socialite he knew once tried to buy a house in Australia through her. After she verified his assets and understood the situation, she politely declined. Her portfolio held properties at prices far beyond that guy’s budget.
Looking at it this way, this house had to be worth at least tens of millions of Australian Dollars. Facing the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, it was in a prime location within a secure, high privacy wealthy enclave. Adams was truly playing big. He was quiet until he made a move, and then he made a move that stunned everyone. Han Yan glanced at him, gaining a deeper understanding of the Wilson family’s wealth once again.
After entering the gates, the car drove for about ten minutes before finally stopping in the garage. As Han Yan stepped out, he could not help but think that getting takeout here would be quite inconvenient. Then again, people living here did not need takeout; they could just have a private chef make whatever they wanted. Tsk, it is good to be rich.
There was an elevator in the garage that led directly to the upper floors. Rachel led them inside, thoughtfully holding the door for them. When they reached the first floor and the doors opened, Han Yan’s pupils shook. Only then did he understand what it meant to have a hidden gem.
Unlike the understated exterior, the interior of the villa was the pinnacle of luxury. A massive crystal chandelier hung from the several dozen meter high dome. Its crystal shards were like clusters of frozen ice, illuminating the entire villa with a dazzling glow.
Rachel explained that the chandelier was crafted by a century old French crystal brand. Every piece was hand picked and cut by a world class master, taking nearly a year to complete. The value of the lighting alone was around one million dollars. Although Han Yan did not know much about crystals, he could tell at a glance that this chandelier was unique. What surprised him more was that from different angles, he could actually see color variations in the luster with the naked eye.
“Do you like it?”
Adams did not care about the chandelier; he just turned to look at Han Yan’s profile. Tiny sparks of light from the crystals were reflected in Han Yan’s eyes.
“Huh? You mean the chandelier? It is quite nice. What do you think?”
“As long as you like it.”
Wait. What does that have to do with me? Han Yan felt something was not quite right, and a faint irritability rose in his heart.
Over the next hour, Rachel took them through the four floors above ground and three below. The top floor had a small garden. By now, the sky had darkened, and the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the distance were lit up. A breeze hit them, carrying the faint, salty scent of the sea.
Throughout the tour, Adams offered no opinions of his own but constantly asked for Han Yan’s. Although Rachel did not understand Chinese, her excellent social intuition told her that this Asian young man was the key to closing the deal. She remained poised, continuing her introduction as usual, but she began to look at Han Yan first each time, and her gaze lingered on him longer.
Han Yan gradually pieced it together. While his face remained calm, his heart grew increasingly heavy. Once the entire villa had been viewed, Rachel left them to give them space to discuss and decide.
Once Rachel stepped outside, Han Yan stood his ground, frowning at Adams. He let out an almost imperceptible sigh. “Adams, why exactly did you ask me to come with you today?”
Seeing that he could no longer hide it, Adams observed Han Yan’s expression and explained cautiously. “I was just afraid you would not be comfortable renting. So, I thought about buying a place near your university so you could live comfortably. It would also be convenient for me to come and accompany you later.”
“Do you not like peace and quiet? This wealthy area has very strict management; no one enters without registration. The soundproofing is also excellent. I thought you would like it.”
“I do not know if the renovation suits your taste. If you do not like it, we can look at others, or tear it down and rebuild. It might just take a bit longer.”
“During the rebuilding period, we can look at other houses. If you prefer an apartment, we will look at apartments. We can buy one to live in first, and once this place is finished, you can see which you prefer, or live in both.”
“Anyway, there is still more than half a month before your classes start. There is plenty of time.”
Adams’ words continued to hum in his ears, every sentence screaming, “I have planned you into my future.”
Han Yan gazed at him, suppressing the flutter in his heart, and asked calmly. “Adams, do you know how much this house costs?”
Adams stopped talking and pursed his lips. “That is not important.”
“Not important?” Han Yan let out a satirical laugh.
Two hundred million dollars, and you tell me it is not important?
He had just asked Rachel while Adams was on the phone and learned that this off market villa only accepted full payment. Two hundred million dollars. What did that even mean? Even though he had been a wealthy socialite for eighteen years and never had a concept of money, he was still stunned by that figure.
Yet Adams said it was not important, as if he were buying a head of cabbage on the street. More importantly, what was their relationship? Had he ever given Adams a promise? Had he ever confirmed their status? Had he ever dreamed of a future with him? He had not even mentioned his own life to Adams. Not once. Adams knew nothing about him. It was no exaggeration to say he was a mystery to the man.
And yet, Adams was foolish enough to buy a two hundred million dollar house for a mystery? He even suggested that if Han Yan did not like the decor, he would buy another house for him to stay in while this one was rebuilt.
Adams. Why are you so stupid?
Meeting Adams’ expectant eyes, Han Yan’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. He spoke in a cold, expressionless voice. “Adams, let us end this here.”
