Chapter 129: The Car is Gone, and So is Xia Shinan…
Shen Zhi believed she understood Xia Shinan very well. Xia Shinan had been through a lot, yet she maintained a sincere, gentle, kind, and resilient attitude toward everything.
So, when she learned about Xia Shinan’s past experiences, she felt heartbroken for her and couldn’t understand why Xia Shinan would fall into the same trap with Tang Yin twice!
But the determination in Xia Shinan’s eyes at this moment was something she had never seen before. Xia Shinan said Tang Yin lacked a sense of security, and so marrying her was just to give her that security?
Shen Zhi didn’t understand, but it seemed she didn’t need to. Xia Shinan loved Tang Yin, so she was willing to go back and even marry her just to soothe her insecurity.
And she… had no right to advise against it.
The unwillingness in her heart was incredibly strong at this moment. Why couldn’t it be her? She longed so badly to receive such passionate love from Xia Shinan…
But no matter what, it would never be her.
“I understand.” Shen Zhi took a long time to compose herself, clenching and unclenching her fists. “I was presumptuous. I apologize.”
Xia Shinan smiled gently and shook her head. “You are my friend. It’s normal for you to be concerned about me.”
Just then, the door suddenly opened, and Tang Yin walked in. Xia Shinan was slightly startled, wondering how long Tang Yin had been there and how much she had heard.
“Guests at home?” Tang Yin’s cheerful voice sounded. She glanced at Shen Zhi and smiled. “CEO Shen, what brings you here?”
“I…” A trace of panic appeared in Shen Zhi’s eyes.
“Are you here to discuss work with Shinan?” Tang Yin asked proactively, then looked at the table. “Shinan, why haven’t you poured a drink for our guest? You two talk, I’ll brew some tea.”
“No need! I have to leave right away.” Shen Zhi’s expression had calmed down somewhat. “I apologize for the disturbance. I should be heading back now.”
“Stay for dinner?”
Shen Zhi was taken aback. She sensed sincerity in Tang Yin’s tone and eyes…
Xia Shinan also nodded: “Yeah, I personally made curry today!”
Curry made by her own hands… Unfortunately, Xia Shinan had only been thinking of Tang Yin while cooking. Why should Shen Zhi stay to be the third wheel?
“Thank you, but I have to return to Jingcheng tonight… Goodbye.” Shen Zhi forced a smile, leaving only a lonely back as she departed.
Xia Shinan sighed helplessly, then turned to see Tang Yin smiling at her.
She paused, then walked over. “How much did you hear?”
Tang Yin shook her head. “Not much, but I heard the most important part, and that’s enough.”
“The most important part?”
“Mhm.” Tang Yin pulled Xia Shinan into her embrace. “I found out you love me.”
Xia Shinan smiled, giving Tang Yin a light kiss on the corner of her mouth. “Mhm, I love you.”
The next day’s interview, Tang Yin suggested Xia Shinan skip it and find an excuse, but she couldn’t openly talk about the reporter’s issues, so she tried other reasons.
“That reporter’s professional ability is not good. Going will only waste time. Forget it, let’s go watch a good movie instead.”
Xia Shinan shook her head. “Even if her professional ability is poor, how can I just cancel an agreed-upon work commitment?”
Seeing this, Tang Yin didn’t press further. “Then call me if anything happens.”
“No need to worry…” Just as she spoke, Xia Shinan received a WeChat message from Tao Yi and was momentarily stunned.
“What’s wrong?”
Xia Shinan quickly sent an “Okay,” then told Tang Yin: “Tao Yi told me that the original host is feeling unwell and can’t come today, so they found a colleague to fill in last minute.”
Tang Yin raised an eyebrow. “That’s good.”
“Mhm… I’ll leave in half an hour after lunch.” Xia Shinan checked the time. “What about you?”
Tang Yin smiled. “Since you’re going to work, I’ll go to work too.”
“You make it sound like I’m inconveniencing you,” Xia Shinan pinched her cheek playfully. “Then you cook dinner and wait for me to come home.”
Tang Yin: “I was going to come and pick you up.”
“No need. I have a company car to drive me. And the time won’t be long, about… finished by four, home by four-thirty.” Xia Shinan kissed Tang Yin’s lips proactively. “I’ll try to come home as early as possible.”
Tang Yin immediately returned the kiss. “Then I’ll cook dinner and wait for you to return.”
The kiss was long and tender. Both were breathless and distracted when it ended.
“Can you really not… cancel this interview?” Tang Yin rested her head on Xia Shinan’s shoulder, whining. “I want to spend the whole afternoon at home with you.”
Xia Shinan felt her face flush. Spend the afternoon at home doing what? She knew perfectly well, but reason prevailed. Moderation was necessary.
“I can’t… I don’t want to see the hashtag #XiaShinanActingDiva# trending. Be good, I’ll be back in two or three hours.”
“Fine, fine, fine.” Tang Yin sighed and simply went to the bathroom.
Xia Shinan knew she wasn’t actually mad. Since the time was right and Tao Yi had messaged that she was downstairs, Xia Shinan prepared to leave.
“Tang Tang, I’m going now.”
“Mhm… Hurry up.” The voice came from the bathroom, accompanied by the sound of running water, but Tang Yin didn’t come out.
Xia Shinan smiled, muttered “Bad Tang Tang,” and then left.
Hearing the sound of the door closing, Tang Yin turned off the faucet and emerged, smiling and shaking her head. She walked to the bedroom, changed her clothes, and then left the house as well.
She knew Xia Shinan was serious about her work, so the interview would definitely happen today. This provided Tang Yin with time to go and pick up the diamond ring.
Long ago, she had planned to propose to Xia Shinan someday. She didn’t know when, but she knew it would happen. So, Tang Yin had been looking forward to it and preparing for it.
She hadn’t expected the legal marriage to happen so suddenly, but she wanted to give Xia Shinan everything that was due to her. The diamond ring, the wedding—all these beautiful things should belong to Xia Shinan.
“Miss Tang, this is the ‘Eternal Kiss’ that you ordered…”
Tang Yin looked at the diamond ring, sparkling with a faint green light, and was utterly satisfied. She could already imagine how perfect this ring would look on Xia Shinan’s hand.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. We are also looking forward to this ring reaching its owner… Would you like to see the wedding bands?”
“Not yet,” Tang Yin smiled. “I’ll bring my wife next time.”
She chose the diamond, and the wedding bands would be up to Xia Shinan to select. In these major life events, both of them needed to have a hand in the process.
Returning home, Tang Yin first hid the ring, waiting for a suitable moment to give it to Xia Shinan. Perhaps when she finished her next drama, or during a special holiday… or maybe just on a quiet evening.
Different scenarios would create unique and unforgettable memories. This left Tang Yin momentarily unsure which to choose. The occasion was too important, so they needed to discuss it properly.
Tang Yin bought groceries and began preparing a lavish dinner, waiting for Xia Shinan to come home.
Sweet and sour pork ribs, tomato and potato beef brisket, a plate of spicy stir-fried pork, and her familiar signature sweet soup. Tang Yin placed all the dishes on the dining table, then thought about it and fetched a bottle of red wine from the cabinet.
It was set up to be a candlelight dinner for two, only waiting for the other protagonist to arrive.
She glanced at the wall clock, and the smile on her lips faded slightly. It was almost six o’clock. Why wasn’t Xia Shinan… home yet?
Suddenly remembering Xia Shinan had said the interview would be over just after four, Tang Yin felt uneasy. She immediately grabbed her phone and called Xia Shinan.
The phone rang twice and was disconnected. When she called again, it couldn’t connect.
Just then, Tao Yi’s phone rang…
Although the interview was conducted by a new reporter, the initial procedure was a bit unfamiliar, causing the finish time to be half an hour later than expected, but overall it went smoothly.
“I’m sorry, Miss Xia, for delaying your time today.” Zhang Qi looked apologetic. This was her first interview, and it was with an artist she liked, so she had been completely flustered and overly nervous.
“It’s nothing. You’ve apologized many times already,” Xia Shinan smiled gently. “It’s normal for a newcomer to gain experience. You’ll get the hang of it later.”
“Thank you, Miss Xia.” Zhang Qi blushed and handed her a notebook. “Could you sign it for me? I’m actually a fan of your work.”
Xia Shinan was startled, quickly taking it. She seriously wrote her name and a blessing. “Thank you for liking my acting. I will continue to work hard!”
Zhang Qi nodded. “Actually, everyone loves your work, and I hope you don’t let the bad things people say online affect you!”
“Thank you.” Xia Shinan’s eyes welled up slightly at her words, her heart filled with energy. “I will definitely live up to everyone’s expectations.”
Bidding farewell to Zhang Qi, Xia Shinan and Tao Yi headed toward the basement garage together.
“I didn’t expect to run into a fan here. That’s great!” Tao Yi’s eyes were smiling. “The online stuff before, while it definitely had some impact, wasn’t a big deal. The people who support you will always support you!”
Xia Shinan nodded. “So, I need to work even harder.”
She didn’t want to disappoint people who loved her and hoped to climb to a higher and more distant place, but all of this required climbing up with her own strength.
“Huh…” Tao Yi touched her vibrating phone, stopped, and answered. “Hello? Ah… okay, okay, I’ll come get it right away.”
Hanging up the phone, Tao Yi told Xia Shinan: “The staff said I left something behind and asked me to go up and get it.”
Xia Shinan looked at the car waiting right ahead, nodded. “I’ll get in the car and wait for you then.”
“Sounds good!” Tao Yi nodded, then turned and walked toward the elevator.
Xia Shinan opened the car door. Seeing the back seat filled with cardboard boxes, she opened the front passenger door and got in.
“Why are there so many boxes? Tao Yi still needs to get in,” Xia Shinan asked curiously, but didn’t get a response from the driver.
She looked up at the driver, only to find the person wearing a mask and a hat, completely covered up. This didn’t look like the same driver who had brought them here.
The person… seemed to be a woman.
“Who are you?” Xia Shinan realized something was wrong and immediately tried to open the car door, only to find the door was locked.
The next second, the person started the car.
“Tao Yi hasn’t gotten in yet!” Xia Shinan exclaimed. “Who exactly are you?”
“Hehe… Shinan, you hurt Auntie’s feelings like that, you know? I only disguised myself a little, and you didn’t recognize me?”
The woman spoke with a laugh, stepping on the gas and quickly driving out of the parking lot.
Xia Shinan recognized her voice. Her expression froze. It was Xia Tong.
Tao Yi went upstairs, only to be told that no staff member had called her and that the phone number was not theirs.
“That’s strange…” Tao Yi muttered, walking back to the basement, only to see the original driver looking anxious, with no sign of the car.
“Hey, driver, what are you doing here?” Tao Yi asked, puzzled.
“I was waiting for you two when suddenly someone called me. As soon as I walked out, I was knocked unconscious. When I woke up… the car was gone.”
“The car is gone?!” Tao Yi’s eyes widened. She frantically looked around. It’s over! The car was gone, and Xia Shinan was gone too!
