After the Fake Heiress Died, She Was Filled with Regret - Chapter 125
Chapter 125: Video Call
“Why are you unhappy?” Xia Shinan had just taken a bite of her noodles when she noticed Tang Yin’s face darken considerably. Tang Yin just pursed her lips and handed her the phone without speaking.
Xia Shinan took a look and couldn’t help but smile, then looked again at the grumpy-faced Tang Yin.
“It’s not entirely wrong, is it?”
Tang Yin absolutely hated the words “ex-wife sister.” Xia Shinan had no idea how awful Tang Yin felt when Mu Ziyu had called her that before.
Tang Yin closed her eyes. She suddenly had no appetite for the delicious food in front of her. She and Xia Shinan were clearly together now… A very impulsive thought arose in her mind, but it was immediately suppressed.
“Forget it, that’s not the main point,” Tang Yin said, feigning lightness and shaking her head. “I will handle the rest with Shiheng. You focus on filming and don’t worry about anything.”
“The photo the netizens found was originally posted by Wu Bin, and your face was blurred out. It shouldn’t be discovered, right?”
By posting on Weibo today, Xia Shinan had confessed what she needed to. Everything else was her private business and didn’t need to be publicly exposed. She was actually more worried about involving Tang Yin, as such controversy would not be good for her or for SN.
Tang Yin paused for two seconds. “It won’t be.”
Xia Shinan smiled, relieved. “That’s good.”
After the meal, Tang Yin had to return to Haicheng. She still had to attend a forum lecture at Haicheng University in the afternoon, making her schedule very tight. The thought of leaving so soon made Tang Yin reluctant. “How about I stay for two days after all, to keep you company?”
Xia Shinan frowned. “No.”
She had clearly heard Ming Jing’s call this morning. The forum was very important, and a last-minute cancellation would severely affect Tang Yin. Moreover, SN had a lot of work that Tang Yin needed to handle.
“You go and be busy with your things, and I’ll be busy with mine. Let’s work hard together, okay?” Xia Shinan said. “I don’t want you to delay anything more important because of me.”
You are the most important thing… Tang Yin thought silently, but she knew that once Xia Shinan had made up her mind, she wouldn’t easily change it.
“I understand. I’ll head back after we finish eating.”
“Mhm…” Xia Shinan looked up at Tang Yin’s slightly disappointed face. After glancing around to ensure no one was paying attention, she leaned in and lightly kissed her on the lips. “Don’t be sad. I’ll spend more time with you next month after filming wraps, okay?”
“Okay.” Tang Yin pursed her lips and nodded. The slight gloom in her heart was instantly swept away by that sweet kiss. She squeezed Xia Shinan’s hand tightly. “I’ll wait for you to come back.”
The afternoon filming proceeded as usual. Although everyone looked at Xia Shinan with a bit more curiosity, they were all polite on the surface, except for Shu Qing.
“Xia Shinan, today’s scenes are important. As a senior, I must remind you, if you’re not in good shape, don’t film. Otherwise, you’ll hold everyone up.”
“Thank you for your concern, Senior. I’m fine.” Xia Shinan smiled at her and continued to look down at her script.
Shu Qing was startled. After looking around, she leaned in and whispered into Xia Shinan’s ear. “Xia Shinan, you’re quite something. I’m curious how you hooked up with CEO Tang. Now Wen Juan is treating you like gold, and everyone is trying to curry favor, but I’m not one of those people.”
Xia Shinan didn’t look at her, continuing to read her lines, and just gave a soft chuckle. “You worry too much, Senior. I really don’t care what your attitude toward me is.”
“You!” Shu Qing was furious. “You just wait, you won’t have a good ending!”
“Is that so?” Xia Shinan slowly looked up then. “Shu Qing, you and I are merely colleagues, mutually uninvolved. But I don’t understand why you keep focusing on me?”
Shu Qing raised an eyebrow. “Am I?”
“Aren’t you? Weren’t you the one sneaking around following me and CEO Tang?” Xia Shinan smiled slyly. “Weren’t you the one who told Jiang Xiaoxiao about my business? Or, did you not have a hand in me trending this time? If CEO Tang and Sister Juan find out, do you think you can continue filming?”
Shu Qing’s face instantly turned pale. “Xia Shinan, you’re threatening me!”
Xia Shinan shrugged, raised an eyebrow, and threw Shu Qing’s words back at her. “Am I?”
She stood up and said softly, “This is a warning. Don’t think I’m easy to bully.”
Shu Qing turned and watched Xia Shinan walk toward the director, feeling a strange sense of fear. How did Xia Shinan know? That shouldn’t be… At most, she had only been clumsy while following her today, but how could Xia Shinan know about the other things?
That person clearly told her that as long as she followed instructions, she could reclaim her position as the industry’s top actress and her past glory, and no one would ever find out.
Xia Shinan’s trending topics had been online for two days. People were not satisfied with her explanation and couldn’t get more answers. Some suspected Xia Shinan was still connected to the Xia Group, suggesting that her ability to acquire so many resources in the entertainment industry might be due to the Xia family’s help.
“Putting aside whether they helped or not, you can look at the Xia Group’s financial reports. They’re on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. How much help could they possibly offer? And even if they did help before, so what? She was their daughter once.”
“And I checked. Xia Shentu died in a car accident, Xie Wan divorced and went to the U.S., and the current head of the Xia family is Xia Tong!”
“Are wealthy families really that messy? Ordinary people truly don’t understand, sob sob.”
“I think Xia Shinan has been honest enough, and her reply was very dignified. Everyone should focus more on her work in the future. Those rich family feuds are beyond our reach~”
“I don’t care about any rich family drama. I just want to know who the ex-wife sister is…”
“How is Xia Shinan’s condition?”
Ming Jing took a sip of tea, silently complaining that it wasn’t as good as the cola in the office. She looked at Tang Yin, who was still staring at her phone, and asked with concern.
“She’s fine,” Tang Yin put down her phone, but her face still looked preoccupied.
Ming Jing: “She’s fine, but why do I feel like you’re not? I saw the Weibo post Xia Shinan put up. It was dignified and sincere, and everyone accepted it. In a while, people will be drawn to new things, and this matter isn’t significant enough to become a major scandal. As for Jiang Xiaoxiao and those spreading rumors online, Shiheng’s legal department isn’t idle, so don’t worry too much.”
Tang Yin nodded. “I’m just worried that someone will expose that I was Xia Shinan’s girlfriend five years ago. Although it wasn’t public then, but…”
“But what?” Ming Jing rested her chin on her hand. “You’re going to go public eventually anyway. Even if they find out, it’s not a big deal. Xia Shinan is an actress, not a girl-group idol. Publicizing a relationship should be fine, right?”
Tang Yin glanced at Ming Jing but said nothing.
Go public… She had certainly thought about it. She desperately wanted the whole world to know that the person beside Xia Shinan was her. But she could sense that Xia Shinan was reluctant to go public.
The unease in her heart had always been present, but today it was exceptionally strong.
“It’s nothing. Time to work,” Tang Yin took a sip of coffee, then turned her attention to the computer. “I looked at the documents sent by the project department. I need to confirm some data with you.”
Ming Jing understood her friend. If Tang Yin didn’t want to talk, prying wouldn’t work, so she nodded, and the two began discussing work.
It was past eleven o’clock at night when Tang Yin finally returned home. But returning home was just changing the location of her work. She had promised Xia Shinan that she would take care of her health and not stay overnight at the office.
After washing up at home, she sent a photo to Xia Shinan to show that she was being a good girl. Xia Shinan still had a night scene to shoot, so a reply wouldn’t come anytime soon. After resting for a bit, Tang Yin went to the study to continue working.
At this moment, her phone suddenly rang. She looked at the caller ID, sneered, and answered.
“My dear niece, you have such composure.” The woman’s gentle voice came from the other end. If one didn’t know the caller’s true intentions, it would sound like a genuinely caring call from an elder.
Tang Yin walked to the window, instinctively wanting to light a cigarette, but remembered Xia Shinan. She put the lighter down, just biting the cigarette holder lightly, and laughed. “How could that be? Auntie, your tactics are meticulous and swift, but have you forgotten what SN does? I’ve seen things like this a thousand times. We have plenty of people in the company who can handle it.”
Xia Tong scoffed. “This is just the beginning. You all just wait!”
Tang Yin pressed her fingers to her temples. “Aren’t you worried about reaping what you sow?”
“Reaping what I sow?” Xia Tong laughed heartily. “I’ve lost everything. What do I have to fear? No, I fear you all living too well! Tang Yin, you should ask yourself that, shouldn’t you? When the Xia family was about to collapse, I begged you for help, but you refused. You only thought about taking revenge on me! Why didn’t you consider that you would have a day like this?”
The call ended. Tang Yin clutched her phone, radiating coldness.
The phone vibrated again. Tang Yin looked at the caller ID and immediately answered. “Finished filming?”
The woman’s voice on the other end was soft and warm. “Yeah, I’m exhausted. I have about four or five hours to sleep before heading to the mountain tomorrow morning.”
“Be careful,” Tang Yin immediately instructed. “Wear anti-slip shoes on the way there, and then change.”
“I know… Who were you just talking to? I called, but you were on the line,” Xia Shinan asked.
Tang Yin paused. “Ming Jing. We were discussing work.”
“Oh… Are you going to work late again tonight?” Xia Shinan asked softly.
“I’ll work for a bit, then sleep. But chatting with you is a priority,” Tang Yin said.
Xia Shinan lay in bed, changed her position, and after a moment, asked, “Tang Tang, are you in a bad mood? I feel like something is bothering you. You can tell me.”
“No, I’m just tired.”
Tang Yin pursed her lips. Was her mood that obvious?
Even over the phone, Xia Shinan seemed to sense the dark and gloomy aura surrounding Tang Yin, making her heart ache. But since Tang Yin wouldn’t say, she didn’t want to pressure her.
“Tang Tang, you promised you wouldn’t keep anything from me.”
Tang Yin’s thick eyelashes fluttered. After agonizing for a few seconds, she slowly asked, “Shinan, we’ve only been back together for less than two months, and we’re already dealing with all this nonsense…” Tang Yin struggled to articulate the emotions weighing her down, self-mockingly saying, “I feel like I’m a jinx. All the bad things are brought by me.”
Xia Tong was right. If she had been more lenient from the start and hadn’t been consumed by hatred, perhaps Xia Shinan wouldn’t have so many worries now.
“You are not a jinx.” Xia Shinan immediately cut her off. “Tang Tang, you are my savior.”
It was Tang Yin who had saved the once-lifeless Xia Shinan.
“I regret it. I should have let you stay with me so you wouldn’t overthink things.”
Tang Yin smiled. “Then should I come over now so you can comfort me properly?”
Xia Shinan stammered, “There are no flights at this hour… and even if you came, I’d have to go to film in a few hours.”
Tang Yin was silent for two seconds. “A video call for comfort will also work.”
Xia Shinan: “Okay.”
She hung up and immediately video-called Tang Yin. The other person answered instantly, her troubled face regaining a smile upon seeing Xia Shinan.
“Seeing me, do you feel a little better?”
Tang Yin nodded, watching Xia Shinan talking to her while lying prone and hugging a pillow. She couldn’t help but recall last night, the intimate moments they shared on that bed.
A cryptic look appeared in her eyes. “Yes. But… if I could see something else, that would be even better.”
They were both adults, and Xia Shinan immediately understood. She felt a little awkward and shy, but wanting to comfort the disheartened Tang Yin, she said, “Wait a moment.”
The room lights dimmed, leaving only the soft glow of a bedside reading lamp. Xia Shinan took off her pants and top, revealing only a matching lace lingerie set. She then walked toward the camera, but after just a few seconds, she couldn’t help but wrap herself in the blanket.
“How about this?” Xia Shinan asked, a little self-consciously.
Tang Yin took a deep breath. “It makes me want to… make love to you even more.”
