After the Divorce, I Ended Up with My Ex-Husband’s "White Moonlight" [Transmigration] - Chapter 32
“Qin Shi,” Ning Qi whispered, glancing around the room. “I’m going to head to the restroom for a moment.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“I’m not going to get lost,” Ning Qi joked. “Do you take me for a five-year-old?”
“Mm.” Qin Shi smiled. “I’ll wait for you here.”
“Alright,” Ning Qi agreed. “I’ll be right back.”
After checking her reflection in the mirror and confirming she still looked great, Ning Qi was satisfied and prepared to leave. However, the moment she turned around, her expression shifted to one of sheer exasperation. She muttered under her breath, “Talk about being haunted…”
Yun Shu, however, looked quite pleased to see her. “Miss Ning.” The broad smile on her face left Ning Qi bewildered. Please, we really aren’t that close.
“Miss Ning is still in love with Senior Lu, isn’t she?” Yun Shu asked with a smile, her tone brimming with certainty. “But even if Miss Ning regrets it now, it’s too late. My boyfriend is very good to me.”
So, they had officially confirmed their relationship. Ning Qi couldn’t help but press a hand to her forehead. Must the romantic plot of the leads be pushed forward by cannon fodder like me? She wondered if she should give Lu Mingze a bit more provocation, just to pray these two get married quickly and focus on tormenting each other instead of the rest of the world!
Ning Qi’s gesture only served to validate Yun Shu’s assumptions. “Miss Ning, there’s really no need to target me like this. You know Senior doesn’t like—”
“You’re overthinking it,” Ning Qi cut her off flatly. “Just because you enjoy collecting trash doesn’t mean everyone else does.”
“Senior Lu isn’t—”
Ning Qi had no intention of letting her finish. “Furthermore, Miss Yun Shu,” Ning Qi flashed a bright smile, “you should realize that your current boyfriend is someone I threw away. Speaking of which, shouldn’t you be thanking me?”
“It seems you didn’t listen to a single word of what Qin Shi said last time about focusing on your studies. What a shame.”
The lecture Qin Shi had given her previously was arguably the most poisonous thing Yun Shu had ever heard. Having it brought up again by Ning Qi made her complexion sour instantly.
However, remembering the theory her friend Xiao Yan had suggested after she got home that day, Yun Shu steadied herself. “Miss Ning says she doesn’t like my boyfriend, but I wonder if your friend, Miss Qin, feels the same way?”
“Miss Ning surely doesn’t believe that Miss Qin spoke those words last time just for your sake, does she?”
She was implying that the reason Qin Shi had been so harsh was because she liked Lu Mingze. “Miss Yun’s imagination is truly one-of-a-kind!” Ning Qi remarked.
“Has Miss Ning never doubted it for even a second?”
“That really is a pity,” Ning Qi said, looking at her with genuine compassion. “I’m sorry to disappoint you, Miss Yun. I have no interest in trash, and neither does my friend.”
Trying to sow discord between me and Qin Shi? She should take a good look at the trash she’s guarding and see if it’s even worth anyone else’s time.
“Even though you’re wrong on both counts,” Ning Qi gave a playful smile, “I’ll give you one piece of advice: Miss Yun, you’d better keep your eyes peeled. If you immerse yourself in your own little world all day, it’s easy to go blind.”
Ning Qi didn’t tell her that the person Lu Mingze truly liked was Qin Shi, nor did she mention that he was only with her because she was a “substitute.” If it were anyone else, Ning Qi would have told her everything and sat back to watch the drama unfold.
But the person involved was Qin Shi. If Yun Shu found out, according to the original plot, she would pick a fight with Lu Mingze. Then Lu Mingze would claim that his past feelings were just youthful ignorance and that she was his true love, leading the two leads to join forces against the “White Moonlight.”
Given the current situation, Ning Qi wasn’t sure how the plot would develop, but Yun Shu’s logic was so bizarre that if she ever found out it was Qin Shi, she’d surely find ways to harass her. Ning Qi decided to take it one step at a time.
“Thank you for the reminder, Miss Ning,” Yun Shu said. “But you’d better see things clearly yourself first.” Yun Shu didn’t care if Ning Qi believed her or not. Thinking back to her own past relationship, she had blindly trusted her best friend.
And the result? Her best friend ended up with her boyfriend. Since Ning Qi refused to believe her, she would have plenty of time to regret it later!
Ning Qi straightened her collar once more, only to hear someone else call her name. Who is it this time? Can I ever get back to the party? Turning around, she saw a glamorous woman. She would have been stunning if she hadn’t sprayed on so much perfume.
“A-choo!” Ning Qi couldn’t help but sneeze into her hand. When the woman spoke, Ning Qi decided she looked even better when her mouth was shut.
“So you’re Ning Qi,” the woman said, scanning her up and down. “You look a bit better than you did in the photos.”
Don’t think I can’t tell you’re still looking down on me. The moment she spoke, Ning Qi was certain she didn’t know her. “And you are?”
“You don’t need to know who I am!” the woman said impatiently.
What terrible dialogue. Ning Qi studied her for a moment and made a guess. “Are you Miss Li?”
“At least you’re somewhat sensible,” Li Zhiyuan said. “Then you should know why I’m looking for you?”
“I do,” Ning Qi nodded. “But you’ve found the wrong person.”
“Why are you so happy?” Qin Shi asked when she saw Ning Qi finally returning. Seeing Ning Qi’s radiant smile, she was confused.
“I’m very happy.” Ning Qi covered her mouth to hide her grin. She whispered to Qin Shi, “There’s a good show waiting for ‘someone’ in a bit!”
Qin Shi knew exactly who she was referring to. She said somewhat helplessly, “As long as you’re happy.”
“I’m exceptionally happy,” Ning Qi said, taking Qin Shi’s arm. “This trip has been full of surprises!”
“I’m telling you, just now Yun Shu tried to drive a wedge between us! Seriously.” Ning Qi emphasized her point, looking into Qin Shi’s eyes as if afraid she wouldn’t believe her.
“And did you believe her?”
What a strange question. “Of course not!”
“Why?” Qin Shi smiled happily at her lack of hesitation, but still asked for the reason.
“Because I trust you most.”
“Are you always this quick to trust people?” Qin Shi asked. “What if someone lies to you?” Her tone was very serious and quite sudden.
At the very least, Ning Qi didn’t understand how the conversation had taken such a turn. “Not at all!” Ning Qi laughed. “Haven’t I known you for several months now? Isn’t that long enough?”
“Besides,” Ning Qi pointed to herself, “is there anything about me worth lying for?”
Money? Even though she had just received her divorce settlement from Lu Mingze, that small amount wouldn’t even register in the eyes of the eldest daughter of the Qin family. As for “seducing” her? If Qin Shi were the one doing the seducing, Ning Qi certainly wouldn’t be the one losing out.
“Qin Shi,” Ning Qi saw her dazed expression and waved a hand, cracking a joke. “So, are you planning to swindle me out of my money or my beauty?”
