After the Divorce, I Ended Up with My Ex-Husband’s "White Moonlight" [Transmigration] - Chapter 30
“But, I’ve been following you the whole time!” Ning Qi said. She had come with Qin Shi and didn’t know anyone else; who else would she be walking with?
Ning Qi’s matter-of-fact tone made the little schemes in Qin Shi’s heart feel insignificant. “Didn’t you say you were bored at home? Naturally, coming out means moving around more and getting to know more people.”
“Mm,” Ning Qi nodded, then added, “Then I’ll start by getting to know your friends. Qin Shi, why don’t you tell me more about them?”
“Alright,” Qin Shi replied softly.
They hadn’t gotten through many introductions before a slight stir of surprise rippled from the entrance. Ning Qi turned her head and saw two people walking in: Lu Mingze and Yun Shu.
The two were arm-in-arm, looking very intimate. The man was handsome and cold, while the woman was petite and lovely—a picture-perfect couple.
Qin Shi followed Ning Qi’s gaze and saw them as well. Worried, she called out Ning Qi’s name twice.
“Qin Shi,” Ning Qi quickly turned back. She was merely thinking that, sure enough, they had bumped into each other again. It wasn’t hard to guess; C-City was only so big. If the Jiang family held a banquet, how could the Lu family not attend?
“Do you want to go for a walk outside?” Qin Shi asked.
“Why would we go for a walk?” Ning Qi was puzzled.
Qin Shi fell silent. Seeing Ning Qi’s focus on Lu Mingze just now, she assumed Ning Qi hadn’t forgotten him. Even if she didn’t like him anymore, she must still care a little about someone she once loved, right? At that thought, Qin Shi suddenly felt a surge of irritability.
On the other side, seeing Qin Shi’s silence, Ning Qi grew even more alarmed. Qin Shi only got like this when Lu Mingze and Yun Shu entered. Wait, she wouldn’t be like the original book, only realizing she likes him once there’s another woman by his side, would she?
No, absolutely not. If Ning Qi previously wanted to stop Qin Shi from falling for that scumbag for self-preservation, now it was out of pure personal affection. Qin Shi was wonderful in every way; why should she get tangled up with Lu Mingze and Yun Shu? Those two were so perfect for each other; they shouldn’t come over to ruin Qin Shi!
“Qin Shi,” Ning Qi thought for a moment, then spoke in a very serious tone, “Actually, you are very good.”
“Mm.” Qin Shi gave a soft reply, suddenly finding the sentence familiar. Usually, aren’t the words following that… not so great?
“Look!” Ning Qi continued. “You’re a good person, you’re beautiful, you have a great family background, and your education is even better.”
How is any part of you inferior to that scumbag or that white lotus? There was absolutely no need to lower her status for people like them. Ning Qi thought this in her heart, though she didn’t say it so bluntly.
Unexpectedly, Qin Shi interrupted her, asking with a half-smile, “Am I really that good?”
“Of course!” Ning Qi said without hesitation, sounding a bit anxious. “Can you please have a correct self-perception?”
She recalled watching a few TV dramas where the protagonist, with a face like a flower, claimed to be ugly. Do you think we have no aesthetic judgment?!
Though she didn’t understand why Ning Qi suddenly brought this up, Qin Shi couldn’t help but feel happy. As long as Ning Qi wasn’t thinking about Lu Mingze, it was fine. As for Yun Shu—having met her once, she recognized her, but ultimately, they were all insignificant people.
Becoming the focus of the banquet made Yun Shu very nervous, but thinking about how she was finally standing beside Senior Lu, she couldn’t help the joy in her heart. Soon she would meet Senior Lu’s friends; she had to perform well and not embarrass him.
“Brother Mingze,” Huo Xuan called out warmly. Lu Mingze led Yun Shu over.
“Brother Mingze, this is…” Huo Xuan curiously sized up Yun Shu, trying to guess who she was. Before Lu Mingze could speak, Yun Shu offered a greeting and shyly lowered her head.
“I knew it!” Huo Xuan suddenly felt he was incredibly clever. “This is Sister-in-law, right? Honestly, Brother Mingze, you’re too much. It’s one thing to hide your beauty in a golden house, but you didn’t even tell us you got married. I almost forgot you were wed. If I hadn’t remembered Mom mentioning it, I wouldn’t have recognized her—I’d have committed a huge offense!”
He spoke so rapidly that Lu Mingze had no time to stop him, nor did he notice Lu Mingze’s expression turning sour.
Seeing Huo Xuan was about to keep going, the Jiang family’s daughter quietly stepped on his foot. “Jiang Xiaolian!” Huo Xuan snapped. He had held back earlier for his cousin’s sake, but being stepped on again was intolerable.
Despite the nickname, Jiang Xinyan returned a friendly smile. “Oops, I stepped on the wrong spot by accident.”
Huo Xuan was speechless. When he turned back and saw both Lu Mingze and Yun Shu looking grim, he finally understood why Jiang Xinyan had stepped on him. “Brother Mingze…”
“This is my junior from C-University,” Lu Mingze quickly regained his composure and explained to Huo Xuan. “And… I have already divorced her.” (Referring to Ning Qi).
Yun Shu gave a brief self-introduction. After finishing, she walked away with Lu Mingze, still dwelling on how he had introduced her. Senior was willing to bring her here, so why wasn’t he willing to say she was his girlfriend?
After they left, Huo Xuan’s mouth hung wide open. “When did this happen?”
“Who knows?” Jiang Xinyan clearly had no interest. Very few in their circle even knew Lu Mingze was married, and even fewer knew his wife—or rather, ex-wife. Naturally, no one knew about the divorce.
“What a mess!” Huo Xuan muttered, scratching his head. “I think I’d better focus on my cousin’s business.”
“Say,” Huo Xuan looked over at Qin Shi and Ning Qi again; the two were whispering with their heads close together. “Do you think Cousin is finally having her spring awakening?”
Even as her cousin, Huo Xuan had rarely seen Qin Shi attend banquets, let alone bring a companion. At his mother’s birthday party recently, which was all close friends and family, Qin Shi hadn’t even stayed long.
In Huo Xuan’s memory, his cousin would rather come with her aunt than find a companion. Today she was so proactive; something unusual was definitely afoot.
“Why are you so invested in Sister Qin finding a partner?” Jiang Xinyan asked. She was curious, but not nearly as much as him.
“You don’t understand,” Huo Xuan said. “My mom says I’m useless all day and plans to dump me on my cousin as soon as I graduate. She’s basically the same kind of person as my older brother, okay?”
“And so?” Jiang Xinyan scoffed. She had never seen anyone Huo Xuan wasn’t afraid of.
“So, if Cousin finds a partner,” Huo Xuan smiled deviously, “look at this person she’s with—they look very easy to talk to. If she can put in a good word for me, Cousin will definitely go easy on me.”
“I think you’re overthinking it,” Jiang Xinyan shot him down without hesitation.
“Why?”
Jiang Xinyan rolled her eyes. She felt Huo Xuan’s years of schooling were a waste. “Just now, when we surrounded Miss Ning for a bit, Sister Qin rushed right over. Do you think you even have a chance to get close?”
“That seems true…” Huo Xuan realized belatedly, sighing after a long moment. “What a pity!”
