After the Demon Lord Lost His Memory, He Became the Immortal Venerable's Dao Companion - Chapter 9
“Zhuzhu, will you please lie down?”
At night, Shen Yuzong insisted on sleeping in the same bed as Qi Yan.
No matter what excuse Qi Yan used to refuse, Shen Yuzong stuck to the same line: “Since when do a husband and wife sleep in separate beds?”
Qi Yan, feeling defeated, silently retreated into a corner and pulled the quilt over his head, ignoring Shen Yuzong completely.
Shen Yuzong lifted the light curtain, saw the human-shaped lump huddled in the quilt, took off his shoes, and climbed into bed.
“Zhuzhu.”
Shen Yuzong was so annoying! He was just like those little boys who would intentionally tease others in childhood just to get a girl’s attention.
“I am not going to talk to you!” Qi Yan said, muffled from inside the quilt.
Shen Yuzong pulled open the quilt, squeezed inside, and unfolded the huddled figure.
“What are you doing!” Qi Yan was truly pushed to his limit by Shen Yuzong. He threw off the quilt and, without thinking, bit down on Shen Yuzong’s wrist.
“Hiss.” But as soon as he heard Shen Yuzong’s sharp intake of breath, Qi Yan felt a bit timid. He retracted his teeth and pretended to unintentionally lick the small spot he had bitten.
He tasted no blood, which meant he had not bitten through the skin.
He let go and turned Shen Yuzong’s hand over to inspect it; there was only a shallow bite mark, not even breaking the skin.
“Shen Yuzong!”
“What is the matter, my lady?” Shen Yuzong rolled over, resting his face on his hand, and twirled a lock of hair by Qi Yan’s cheek.
Qi Yan angrily pushed Shen Yuzong’s hand away, though his conviction was wavering. “I did not even bite through the skin, so why are you making such a fuss?”
“My hand hurts.”
Shen Yuzong was telling a bold-faced lie without changing his expression. That bite just now felt more like someone grinding their teeth.
“Even a rabbit will bite when pushed to the limit. It is all your fault, all your fault!” Qi Yan, fueled by embarrassment and anger, decided to shove all the blame onto Shen Yuzong.
“So, my lady was a rabbit in a past life?”
Shen Yuzong tilted his head and leaned in, rubbing his nose against Qi Yan’s neck, smelling the scent of cold plum blossoms emanating from his skin.
Shen Yuzong’s words made Qi Yan blush with annoyance again. “What are you saying! Take your head away and stop rubbing against me! It tickles!”
He hunched his shoulders and tried to retreat, but there was a wall right behind him. Where could he possibly go?
Shen Yuzong was amused by Qi Yan. He rested his chin on Qi Yan’s collarbone, feeling the cool, soft warmth of his skin.
Because the two were so close, even when Shen Yuzong merely laughed, Qi Yan’s chest felt numb from the vibrations.
“Shen Yuzong, you are bullying me again!” Qi Yan reached out to grab Shen Yuzong’s hair but did not dare to pull hard, so he just held it loosely while backing away.
Shen Yuzong, however, chose to fully live by his own motto: “A tree cannot survive without bark, and a person cannot be invincible without being shameless.”
He reached out to wrap his arms around Qi Yan’s waist, one palm resting firmly on Qi Yan’s lower abdomen.
Qi Yan’s shoulders trembled, and he pulled his legs together tightly beneath the quilt.
“How could this be bullying? Your husband is showing you affection.” Shen Yuzong let out a long breath and wrapped himself around Qi Yan like an octopus.
He reached out and traced the end of the scar on Qi Yan’s belly; it felt somewhat rough and irritating. He remembered very clearly that there had been no scar on Qi Yan’s belly that time.
“Where did this scar come from?” Shen Yuzong asked, his expression unreadable as he held Qi Yan’s shoulders.
Qi Yan was already trembling all over from the torment and puffed out his cheeks, unwilling to answer.
Tears slid down the bridge of his nose and were caught by Shen Yuzong, turning into snow-white pearls.
“Hmm?”
This behavior from Shen Yuzong was essentially demanding an answer from a mute. Qi Yan had lost his memories; how could he possibly know the origin of the scar?
For once, Qi Yan was quick-witted. He asked curiously, “Have we not been together all this time? If you do not even know, what is the point of asking someone like me who has lost his memory?”
Shen Yuzong withdrew his gaze and began to sigh again.
“Actually, you went missing for a month before I found you under the cliff,” Shen Yuzong said with all the gravity of a true story.
Qi Yan was in no mood to deal with Shen Yuzong’s affected melancholy. He gave a dismissive “Oh” and tried to end the conversation.
But clearly, the man was determined to keep pestering him. Not content with messing with his hair, he was now nudging and rubbing against him like a dog.
Qi Yan could take it no more and slapped Shen Yuzong across the face.
Shen Yuzong reached out to catch Qi Yan’s hand, burying half his face in his palm. “What is wrong now, Zhuzhu?”
“You know exactly why.” When Qi Yan could not pull his hand back, he was instead pulled tighter into a hug by the waist.
Shen Yuzong chuckled and suddenly produced a snow-white jade pendant.
The jade was carved into the shape of a small fish with a pearl in its mouth, looking charming and naive. The pendant hung on a simple black cord with a golden bead on either side.
Shen Yuzong lowered his head, untied the cord, wrapped it around Qi Yan’s neck, and then reached out to tuck the jade pendant inside Qi Yan’s inner garment.
Qi Yan’s chest felt instantly chilled by the jade. Before he could even see what it looked like, Shen Yuzong had already tucked it away.
Qi Yan tugged on the cord, trying to pull the pendant out from his chest.
Shen Yuzong suddenly spoke, his voice hoarse and startling. “Do not move.”
Qi Yan looked confused. “I am not moving.”
Shen Yuzong stared straight at Qi Yan, his voice strained. “I mean, do not move the pendant.”
“Huh? Why can I not move it?”
Qi Yan turned over in confusion, pressing the pendant beneath his body.
Shen Yuzong suddenly closed his eyes, placed his hand on his forehead, and let out a long, “Ah.”
Qi Yan was startled by Shen Yuzong and said with a flushed face, “Can you not make such, such strange noises?”
Shen Yuzong let out a laugh and looked up at Qi Yan. “Which noises?”
“You know, in bed. Oh, forget it! You are doing this on purpose, are you not!” Qi Yan propped himself up on the bed; the once-cold jade was now warmed by his body, dangling against his chest and swaying back and forth.
Shen Yuzong turned his head and reached out to hold Qi Yan’s face. His sleeve slipped down, revealing an arm bulging with thick veins.
“What are you doing?” Qi Yan asked uneasily.
“Zhuzhu, will you please lie down?” Shen Yuzong swallowed hard, saying it without any psychological burden.
“Why?” Qi Yan asked with a look of innocence, his eyes filled with trust.
Shen Yuzong had no choice but to lean in close to Qi Yan and whisper, “Your collar is too loose, and I can see you.”
Qi Yan hurriedly covered Shen Yuzong’s mouth and lay flat on the bed, truly flustered. “You scoundrel!”
“Ah.” Shen Yuzong let out a long sigh of relief.
Qi Yan pulled his hand back, tucked it inside the quilt, and said indignantly, “Why are you making these weird noises all day long?”
Shen Yuzong reached out to pull him into his arms, laughing as he comforted him, “My mistake.”
In a place no one noticed, the jade pendant was emitting a soft, translucent light through Qi Yan’s thin clothing.
