After the Demon Lord Lost His Memory, He Became the Immortal Venerable's Dao Companion - Chapter 8
“What are you afraid of, Zhuzhu?”
In the evening, Qi Yan was held in Shen Yuzong’s arms to have his hair combed.
The comb was made of the finest white jade, moving from the top of his head all the way to the ends of his hair. Qi Yan had high-quality hair, thick and dark, which spilled over his body the moment it was let down.
Shen Yuzong was very patient, combing through Qi Yan’s hair from start to finish several times, being far more meticulous than when he styled his own hair.
“Zhuzhu is so beautiful.”
Qi Yan had lost count of how many times he had heard this sentence in the short span of two days. With a blushing face, he glared at Shen Yuzong.
“But…”
Seeing that Shen Yuzong was about to start his usual antics again, Qi Yan struck first, “I do not dislike you.”
Shen Yuzong smiled, leaning closer to Qi Yan’s smooth, delicate cheek. “To have such a virtuous spouse, what more could a husband ask for? Tell me, Zhuzhu, am I right?”
Qi Yan, with a reddened face, did not want to pay attention to Shen Yuzong, but he feared that if he ignored him, Shen Yuzong would resort to his old tricks. He had no choice but to let out a dry “Yes.”
“Zhuzhu, let us go bathe.” Shen Yuzong suddenly put down the comb and whispered to Qi Yan.
“No, impossible!” Qi Yan raised his head, refusing without a second thought.
“Why not?” Shen Yuzong asked, his face full of feigned confusion.
Qi Yan stammered for a long time, unable to provide a proper reason, yet some intuition told him that he absolutely must not agree to Shen Yuzong.
“Zhuzhu, you have just recovered from a great illness; you should wash yourself to cleanse the sickness away. Your husband is only concerned for you.” Shen Yuzong said pitifully, wearing the expression of someone willing to suffer even if misunderstood.
Qi Yan hesitated again. Perhaps Shen Yuzong really had no ulterior motives and was simply concerned about him.
Seeing Qi Yan’s reaction, Shen Yuzong knew exactly what he was thinking. He struck while the iron was hot, acting very disappointed. “I understand that you feel some distance from me since you woke up. I just did not expect… that you would think so poorly of me.”
“How about this? I will wear a white blindfold over my eyes, is that alright?” Shen Yuzong took a step back, though his expression could not hide his sadness.
Perhaps he really was thinking too poorly of him, and Shen Yuzong was just being kind.
“Fine. Just do not tease me again.”
Shen Yuzong played with Qi Yan’s fingers, kissing them from time to time.
“How could I tease you? I cannot even show you enough affection.” Shen Yuzong said, wrapping his arms around Qi Yan’s waist with a look of sincerity.
The white blindfold was chosen by Qi Yan himself. He had tested it before his eyes to ensure he could not see anything even with his eyes open, and only then did he feel at ease tying it onto Shen Yuzong.
This was a large bathing pool, almost the size of a room, with steam constantly rising from the center.
“You are not allowed to move!” Qi Yan was still nervous and emphasized repeatedly, “You take off your clothes, and I will take off mine. You are not allowed to peek!”
At this very moment, Shen Yuzong’s spiritual consciousness had already permeated the entire space above the pool, finding its way into every nook and cranny.
“What are you afraid of, Zhuzhu? We have already been naked together at night before.” Shen Yuzong whispered near Qi Yan’s ear, smiling warmly.
Qi Yan’s waist went limp, and his ear went numb from the vibration. He pushed Shen Yuzong backward, but he did not budge, so Qi Yan had to walk forward a distance on his own.
“The past is the past, and now is now. Can you at least be considerate of the fact that I do not have a single memory right now?” Qi Yan said, looking back.
Even when bathing, Shen Yuzong still wore that half-mask on his face. Seeing this, Qi Yan instinctively softened his tone, “Please give me some more time.”
Shen Yuzong sighed and nodded helplessly. “Who told you to be so foolish back then? You were ready to throw your life away just for a child.”
“Shen Yuzong!” Qi Yan was annoyed, a flush of pink spreading across his cheeks.
“Fine, fine, fine. I will stop talking about it, will that do?” Shen Yuzong shrugged.
Caught in Shen Yuzong’s trap, Qi Yan had gone from setting conditions to making requests, all without realizing it.
Shen Yuzong took off his clothes with great efficiency, as if to prove his innocence. After undressing, he stepped directly into the water without glancing toward the edge again.
Qi Yan let out a sigh of relief and slowly untied his sash. Layers of gauze clothing piled up at his feet, and the last item was the modified undergarment.
Amidst the swirling steam, Qi Yan’s joints were flushed red from the heat. He muttered a few things under his breath before holding the handrail and stepping down the ladder one step at a time.
Shen Yuzong’s breathing stalled for a few seconds, as if his heart had been gripped tight.
Qi Yan was not fat; one could even say he was quite thin. Usually, Shen Yuzong could easily wrap one hand around both of Qi Yan’s wrists.
Yet, his thighs were fleshy. With every step down the stairs, the base of his thighs would tremble slightly.
Shen Yuzong’s throat moved as he swallowed. The steam had condensed into water, wetting the white blindfold over his eyes.
Qi Yan reached the pool and submerged his body in the water. His face was flushed pink from the steam, and his lips were constantly moving; Shen Yuzong guessed he was muttering insults at him.
His damp hair clung to his shoulders and neck, with some strands floating on the surface like a giant black net.
However, Shen Yuzong thought Qi Yan looked more like a tree spirit; his hair was the tangled vines, while his body was the fruit that had been so painstakingly grown on the tree.
Hanzhu, oh Hanzhu.
Why were you born so beautiful? How can you expect your husband not to want to bully you? You foolish Zhuzhu, you believe any excuse someone casually throws at you. Can just anyone sweet-talk you and trick you away?
The more Shen Yuzong thought about it, the deeper his gaze became, and the hotter his body grew.
It was all Hanzhu’s fault.
It was he who had taken the initiative to approach him, and after sleeping with him, he had discarded him, even erasing his memories.
“Zhuzhu.”
Qi Yan was startled by the sudden sound and sank further into the water, leaving only his head exposed. “What… what do you want?”
“Zhuzhu, I really love you so much. You must not leave your husband all alone.” Shen Yuzong bowed his head, his white hair soaked and clinging to the side of his neck, like a patch of melting ice and snow.
Qi Yan’s heart softened again. He nodded, and remembering that the man could not see him, he blushed and whispered, “I will not leave you alone.”
Shen Yuzong smiled as he had hoped.
As time passed, Qi Yan no longer wanted to soak, but he felt embarrassed to speak up, instead sighing from time to time.
Finding this amusing, Shen Yuzong retrieved a brand-new set of undergarments from his storage ring and handed them to Qi Yan.
“Zhuzhu, you go change first. I still need to soak for a while.”
Qi Yan was overjoyed. He bit his lip, gave a vague nod, climbed up the steps, and put on his clothes in a flurry before heading out.
He treats me like I am a plague, Shen Yuzong thought.
Shen Yuzong shook his head and laughed. He reached up to remove the thoroughly soaked white blindfold and performed an incantation to change the water in the pool into ice-cold water.
This pool had originally been intended for meditation, so it was naturally a cold spring. But since Hanzhu was delicate and surely could not get used to soaking in it, Shen Yuzong had changed it to hot water.
