- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 9 - No Need to Look, He Is Already Gone
“You are getting more and more out of line.”
He Ran sat up, wiped the tears of laughter from the corners of his eyes, and tidied his clothes.
Chu Shenxing poured a drink for both of them and smiled. “He was just worried you were in a bad mood and wanted to cheer you up. Do not be angry with him.”
He Ran picked up his glass and clinked it against Chu Shenxing’s. “I know. I am not truly angry.” He took a sip of his drink and shook his head. “He is so old, yet he still acts like a child.”
Chu Shenxing smiled. “He only acts up like this with you. Have you ever seen him act this way with anyone else?”
He Ran smiled as well, sounding helpless. “He has been spoiled.”
“Let us talk about you! Did you really break up?” Chu Shenxing asked with genuine curiosity.
“Did Yuanzhou tell you?”
“Yes. What exactly happened? Why the sudden breakup?”
He Ran sighed. “It was not that sudden. I have been mentally prepared for a long time.”
Chu Shenxing looked gossipy. “It could not be that he actually gave you a green hat, could it?”
The mention of this immediately brought Yin Zheng to He Ran’s mind. His expression instantly soured. “Let us not talk about it. In short, we have split up, and it is the kind of breakup where we will not be reconciling.”
Seeing his reaction, Chu Shenxing could guess a thing or two. He nodded and said, “If you do not want to talk about it, I will not ask. Since you have broken up, do not look back. Just move forward.” He raised his glass. “Welcome to the single life. Between the three of us brothers and Xiao Tang in Canada, we have all ended up as single dogs. It is quite pathetic.”
He Ran laughed, his mood improving slightly. He raised his glass to clink with Chu Shenxing’s. “Happy being single!” He then feigned regret and added, “It is a pity you do not like men; otherwise, the two of us could have made do together.”
“Pffft!”
Chu Shenxing was instantly choked by his drink and began to cough violently. He cursed jokingly, “Who wants to make do with you? Go find Yuanzhou. He would definitely be willing.”
“Forget it. I am not that insane. I would not make a move on my own brother.”
“Hey! Yuanzhou is not your brother! You two are not related by blood.”
“Is there a difference?”
Chu Shenxing’s smile faded slightly, and he gave a soft sigh. “I suppose. It is a pity.”
He Ran was about to ask what was a pity when the door was pushed open from the outside.
“What are you two talking about? Why so happy?” Xue Yuanzhou asked as he walked in. His forehead was slightly damp as if he had just washed his face.
Before Chu Shenxing could speak, He Ran jumped up and grabbed him. “You brat! You actually dared to come back?” As he spoke, he began to vigorously rub Xue Yuanzhou’s silver-gray hair.
“I was wrong! I was wrong! Spare me, Ran-ge! I will never dare to do it again!”
“When have you ever kept your word?”
Xue Yuanzhou looked miserable as he was held and rubbed. His head felt like it was being shaken into paste. He shouted, “This time is real! Realer than real gold!”
He Ran was only playing with him, so he took the opportunity to let him go. “Let us see if you dare to be so bold next time.”
Xue Yuanzhou sat up straight and said crossly, “Kindness treated like a donkey’s liver and lungs!”
Chu Shenxing interjected at the right time. “He is just teasing you. When has he ever truly been angry with you?”
“Fine, fine! Stop it! This matter is over.” He Ran rubbed his head once more. Truth be told, this prickly head of hair felt quite comfortable to touch. He gave it a few more rubs as if he were petting a dog. Xue Yuanzhou did not react; he stayed still and let him do it.
Watching from the side, Chu Shenxing could not help but sigh as he finished his drink in one gulp. “Sigh. A foolish person has a fool’s luck.”
After a while, He Ran checked the time on his wrist and said to the other two, “I have something to take care of outside. You two keep playing; I will be back in a bit.”
“Where are you going?” Xue Yuanzhou asked.
“I am not leaving the building. I will be back soon.” He Ran patted him on the shoulder and turned to walk out the door.
Chu Shenxing pulled out his phone, his fingers sliding aimlessly across the screen. “No need to look. He is already gone.”
Xue Yuanzhou slowly turned his head and looked down as he finished the juice in his glass.
Chu Shenxing let out a long breath and tossed his phone onto the sofa. “What are you really thinking?”
Xue Yuanzhou asked back, “What do you mean, what am I thinking?”
Chu Shenxing was a bit angry. “Do not play dumb with me. You know exactly what I am talking about.”
After a short silence, Xue Yuanzhou looked up and gave him a helpless smile. “It does not matter what I think. You heard him just now; he has always seen me as his younger brother.” Though he was smiling, it looked worse than crying. His voice was full of self-mockery.
Chu Shenxing paused. “You heard all of that?”
Xue Yuanzhou gave a small “Mhm.” His eyes were slightly red, and he said self-consolingly, “Actually, being a brother is quite good. Look how well he treats me! What else could I be dissatisfied with?”
Chu Shenxing exhaled sharply and said irritably, “If you do not want to smile, then do not. It looks hideous.”
He Ran arrived at the front desk and asked the receptionist, “Excuse me, is there a guest here today with the surname Yin?”
The receptionist looked at him and smiled. “Hello, President He! Yes, there is. Mr. Yin left instructions that you should go directly to find him once you arrived. He is waiting for you in the Green Pine Pavilion.”
He Ran remained silent. Was he so certain that he would come? That was a bit too much confidence. Also, why choose the Green Pine Pavilion specifically? Was he trying to remind him of something?
The receptionist led him to the Green Pine Pavilion and then left. He Ran raised his hand and knocked on the door.
“Enter!”
It was indeed him. He Ran pushed the door open.
The private room was spacious and decorated in a luxurious, retro style. Once he moved past the screen, He Ran immediately saw Yin Zheng sitting on the sofa. However, what surprised him was that Yin Zheng was not alone. Sitting beside him were three other people: one woman and two men. Hearing the door open, they all turned to look at him.
He Ran was speechless. What on earth was this guy doing? What angered him even more was that he actually saw Ji Yang there!
Yin Zheng set down his white porcelain cup and stood up with a smile. “You are here? Come and sit.”
Ji Yang clearly had not expected to see him here. His expression changed slightly, and he pressed his lips together, turning his head away to avoid He Ran’s gaze.
A trace of an ambiguous smile touched He Ran’s lips. “Apologies. I have the wrong room.”
“President He!” Yin Zheng called out to the man who was about to leave. He said with a smile, “Since you are here, why not sit down for a cup of tea before you go?”
“I am afraid I cannot afford President Yin’s tea.”
“Why would you say that? Whose tea could President He not afford?” Yin Zheng walked over to him and leaned in to explain, “You were the one who broke our original appointment. I did not expect you would still come. Those two are my friends who just arrived in Jinghai today. I had to entertain them, did I not?”
Their appointment had been for 7:00 PM, and it was now nearly 9:00 PM. It was impossible for people to wait for him forever. Besides, He Ran had not intended to come at all. It was only because the place he had arranged to meet his friends was also this club that he thought he would drop by. As for missing the time, that was simply because He Ran himself had forgotten.
Yin Zheng stood up straight and gently pushed on his back. “Give me some face. Come and sit for a while.”
He Ran thought to himself: Why should I give you face? We are love rivals!
But the world of adults is like that; you cannot always do exactly as you please. Furthermore, their companies were still in a partnership. If rumors of a fallout spread, it would be detrimental to future development. Thinking this, he could not help but feel a bit of suppressed anger.
He slapped away the hand resting on his back and said with disgust, “Just speak. Keep your hands to yourself.”
A flash of amusement appeared in Yin Zheng’s eyes. Knowing He Ran had relented, he did not say anything more.
