- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 12 - A Friend of a Business Partner
Ever since that conversation with Yin Zheng that day, Yin Zheng had indeed stopped seeking him out.
He Ran breathed a genuine sigh of relief. He truly did not want to see those two people ever again. Every time he encountered them, he was forced to remember the fact that he had been cheated on, which was incredibly annoying.
He Ran was exactly that kind of person. When he loved someone, he would stop at nothing to pluck the moon from the sky for them; but when he no longer loved someone, even if they stood before him wailing in grief, he would remain indifferent.
Chu Shenxing once said he was heartless, but He Ran did not see it that way. He never craved love that did not belong to him, nor would he ever want a half-hearted lover. When he first pursued Ji Yang, it was only because Ji Yang had never explicitly rejected him, giving him the illusion that the feeling was mutual.
This Saturday, He Ran returned to the family estate.
Tianshui Bay in the Lantian District was the site of Jinghai City’s top-tier luxury villas. Built along the coast, it boasted pleasant scenery. A black SUV drove into one of the villas, and after parking in the lot, He Ran stepped out.
As soon as he entered the main gate, a gray figure came sprinting toward him. He Ran opened his arms and caught it with practiced ease.
“Goudan! Did you miss me?”
It was a large, thick-furred, silver-gray Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. At that moment, it was standing up on its hind legs, panting excitedly at him, its thick tail wagging so hard it looked like it might take flight.
He Ran rubbed its head vigorously and weighed the dog with his hands. “You have gotten fat again.”
“He wants to eat five meals a day, so how could he not be fat?” a clear male voice said with a laugh.
He Ran looked up. Standing not far ahead was a tall, handsome young man. He was wearing a blue and white tracksuit, hands in his pockets, standing with a relaxed posture. It was He Yan.
He Ran raised an eyebrow. “How rare it is to see you at home. What is the matter? Do you have no scripts to film?”
“That mouth of yours!” He Yan walked over. “Can you not say something nice?”
“What? Did I hit the nail on the head?”
“As if!” He Yan smiled confidently. “I am the great Best Actor He. How could I have no scripts to film? I am just a bit tired lately and wanted to take a break.”
“Fine, it is good to stay home and keep Mom and Dad company.”
The two brothers talked as they walked. He Yan suddenly threw an arm around He Ran’s shoulder and leaned in to gossip. “Hey, Brother. I heard from Brother Chu that you broke up. Is it true?”
He Ran replied, “Can we not mention this?”
“I am just asking! Seriously, what happened? You two were together for so many years. Could you really let go?”
He Ran said, “There is nothing to be reluctant about. We did not like each other anymore, so we split.”
“Did you bring it up?”
“He did.”
“Fuck!”
He Yan was gloating inwardly, but he also felt a bit slighted. Ultimately, brotherly affection won out, and he said displeasurably, “Wait, on what grounds? Who does he think he is?”
He Ran mocked himself. “What? Someone does not love me anymore, and they are not allowed to initiate a breakup? Your brother is not made of gold and silver; I am not that universally loved.”
He Yan knew this, of course, but he was still unhappy. “It is better that you split. If he does not love you, plenty of people will. I always felt he was not good enough for you anyway. Out with the old, in with the new. My company has more good-looking men than you can count. Tomorrow, I will introduce you to the best one.”
He Ran declined. “Forget it. I have no plans for that right now.”
“Do not be like that!” He Yan said urgently. “You are not planning to remain chaste for him, are you? I am telling you, if you are really that foolish, I will not acknowledge you as my brother anymore.”
He knew exactly how “pure” his brother was; one relationship could last years. He was not like He Yan, who had already cycled through several girlfriends.
He Ran said, “I just do not have the energy to start a new relationship for the time being, especially with so much business at the company. We will talk about it later.” Remembering something, he added, “By the way, give me one of your signed photos later.”
He Yan was surprised. “What? Have you finally been captivated by my handsomeness and become my fan?”
“Get lost!” He Ran laughed and cursed. “I am getting it for someone else.”
He Yan’s tone was full of disappointment. “Oh! Fine then!”
Since handing over the family business to his two sons, Father He had dedicated himself to cultivating his mind and character. He usually spent his time drinking tea, gardening, or occasionally meeting up with friends. At just over fifty, he had started his retirement life early.
Mother He was a jewelry designer. She had been invited to a jewelry exhibition in France last week and had not returned yet. So today, it was just the father and his two sons at home.
Because Father He had completely relinquished power, he generally stopped interfering in company affairs, leaving everything to the brothers. Thus, after lunch, Father He went upstairs for a nap.
He Ran sat for a while and then prepared to head back. However, while he arrived alone, he left with a tag-along. In the car, He Ran glanced at the person in the passenger seat and asked, “What are you following me for?”
He Yan rested his hands behind his head, humming an unknown tune. He said lazily, “Mom is not home, I have nothing to say to Dad, and staying there is boring. You have empty rooms, do you not? Let me stay for a few days.”
He Ran did not mind; he was living alone anyway.
“By the way!” He Yan said. “Who is this person who wants my autograph?”
He Ran looked straight ahead, thought for a moment, and said, “A friend of a business partner.”
“A friend of a business partner asked you for my autograph? That is a messy web of connections.”
The corners of He Ran’s mouth quirked up as he nodded in agreement. “It is quite messy.” He checked the time and said, “I have to attend a birthday banquet tonight. You coming?”
“Whose?” He Yan asked.
“Elder Jin from Fengtou.”
He Yan became interested. “Sure. I have got nothing else to do anyway.”
He Ran turned the steering wheel, veering onto another road. “Let us go buy you a suit first.”
The banquet was held at a private estate in the suburbs. By the time He Ran and He Yan arrived, many people were already there. As soon as the two appeared, they attracted the attention of the majority of the guests.
Their looks and temperaments were simply too outstanding. Especially among a crowd of rounded, middle-aged men with protruding bellies, they stood out like cranes among chickens.
Several young ladies and madams gasped repeatedly, though most of their gazes were focused on He Yan. Their voices could be heard from a distance.
“Is that He Yan? Am I seeing things?”
“It really is him! I am a Mother Fan of his; I could not be wrong!”
“Ah! Why is He Yan here? Can I go ask for an autograph?”
“I heard long ago that He Yan came from an elite background, and rumors said he was a young master of a prominent family in Jinghai. Seeing this today, the rumors must be true.”
“Look at the person next to him; is that not the Second Young Master of the He family?”
“Could He Yan be the Third Young Master of the He family? Oh my god! I think I have discovered the truth!”
“What is there to be surprised about? The fact that He Yan is the Third Young Master has been an open secret in certain circles for a long time.”
“Do you all not think the Second Young Master He is handsome too? My god! How did he grow up to look like that? Look at his head; it is smaller than mine!”
The crowd buzzed with diverse opinions, creating quite a stir. Some of the bolder guests were already walking toward them. At that moment, several CEOs who were acquainted with He Ran also came over to exchange pleasantries.
He Ran gave He Yan a nudge toward the group of women, smiling mischievously. “There, they are looking for you.”
He Yan was long used to such attention. He curled his lips into a smile for them and placed a forefinger to his lips, signaling them to be a bit quieter. He possessed that kind of magic; even a simple gesture was enough to leave the ladies and socialites utterly infatuated, their expressions excited and their faces flushed like peach blossoms.
