Chapter 40: Why Can’t You Like Me?
Shen Qingyu stared at him in horror, unable to utter a single word for a long time.
“You don’t want to?” Lu Xiao cast his eyes down sullenly, his gaze making it seem like Shen Qingyu was some kind of heartless rogue.
“You, you stop messing around.”
Lu Xiao’s eyes darkened. He felt that Shen Qingyu was far too disobedient right now and needed a good lesson.
So he pressed Shen Qingyu’s shoulders and kissed him regardless.
Unlike the two previous fleeting touches, this time, Lu Xiao gently rubbed Shen Qingyu’s lip tubercle with his lower lip, occasionally sucking on it.
Shen Qingyu was startled by his audacious behavior.
Taking advantage of Shen Qingyu’s shock, Lu Xiao decisively struck, extending the tip of his tongue.
He tasted the faint fruit wine in Shen Qingyu’s mouth, very, very sweet. Lu Xiao had never found fruit wine so delicious. The soft, slippery tips of their tongues tangled together, and the strong sensation stimulated his taste buds.
The deeper they went, the more inseparable he became.
Shen Qingyu wanted to push him away, but unexpectedly, Lu Xiao’s technique had genuinely improved significantly.
Lu Xiao reluctantly ended the deep kiss, not forgetting to gently rub the moisture from Shen Qingyu’s lips with his thumb.
Rapid breathing echoed in his ears. Shen Qingyu’s pupils gradually focused, but his emotions remained unsettled for a long time.
More shocking than the sudden deep kiss was… Lu Xiao’s learning ability was too strong! How long had it been, and he had already progressed from a childish peck to a passionate, lingering deep kiss?
“How was the technique this time?” Lu Xiao was fiercely competitive. He could not accept his kissing skills being inferior, so he had diligently researched for a long time, just to hear Shen Qingyu say one day, “Your kissing technique is much better than Cheng Che’s.”
Shen Qingyu looked at him blankly. Although the kiss wasn’t overly intense—more gentle and lingering—Shen Qingyu’s eyes still gradually became moist.
“…It should be, not bad, I guess.” He hadn’t kissed anyone else, so how would he know the exact level of this kiss?
Lu Xiao was satisfied. It was as if a dog’s tail was wagging behind him, occasionally wrapping around Shen Qingyu’s calf in a suggestive way.
He noticed that Shen Qingyu was dazed from the kiss and felt very proud. He hugged Shen Qingyu, burying his head on his shoulder.
“You smell so good, and you’re so soft to hug.”
Shen Qingyu felt like he had been struck by lightning. He had never seen this clingy side of Lu Xiao. It was like his little wolfdog, whom he had left to run wild for a long time and couldn’t be disciplined, had suddenly turned into a little milk dog!
Cradled in his arms, Shen Qingyu felt his legs going weak, barely able to lean on him.
But the closer they got, the more rapid Lu Xiao’s breathing became. The scorching hot breath hit his neck, making Shen Qingyu shiver all over.
Suddenly, Shen Qingyu felt something hard and hot pressing against his lower abdomen.
His head buzzed. A tingling sensation climbed up his spine all the way to his head.
Lu Xiao was also a little embarrassed. He rubbed his head against Shen Qingyu’s neck, wanting to continue kissing.
Shen Qingyu finally came back to his senses. He pushed him away with almost all his strength.
Lu Xiao hadn’t expected the intense affection to turn into rejection. He staggered back two steps in shock.
“What do you mean!” Shen Qingyu preempted him. If he didn’t think it was wrong to strike someone, he would have loved to slap Lu Xiao again.
Which side of his face did he slap last time? He couldn’t quite remember.
“What do I mean? I want to ask you what you mean. Why won’t you let me kiss you?” Lu Xiao looked at him sadly.
His self-righteousness completely redefined the meaning of the word “shameless” for Shen Qingyu. Shen Qingyu was so angry that he took several deep breaths to control himself from shaking.
“Are you okay? Are you still dreaming? Why should I let you kiss me?”
Lu Xiao clenched his back teeth, saying viciously, “Aren’t we together?”
That one sentence completely broke Shen Qingyu.
Lu Xiao said it with such confidence that Shen Qingyu even started to wonder if he had suffered a momentary memory loss.
After thinking it over and over, Shen Qingyu was sure Lu Xiao was talking nonsense. He tried to use a gentle approach to wake him up: “I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you’re drunk, go home and sleep quickly!” Don’t tell me horror stories!
Although Lu Xiao’s looks and temperament were Shen Qingyu’s ideal type, he had never entertained any inappropriate thoughts about Lu Xiao.
…
Hmm…
Okay, maybe in one or two moments, little bubbles did burst forth, but they were quickly extinguished.
Lu Xiao was on the verge of exploding. Anger surged in waves, making his chest tight and painful.
“I am not drunk!” Lu Xiao’s eyes widened. He punched the wall, using his fiercest tone: “We kissed in the dorm. Doesn’t that count?”
Shen Qingyu’s vision went black again. What the hell? So he didn’t black out!
“You were just drunk and acting crazy, weren’t you?!”
“I have excellent alcohol tolerance. I never act crazy when drunk, and I don’t black out.” Intense emotion was suppressed in his eyes, but his tone was somewhat low. “I kissed you purely because I wanted to kiss you.”
Shen Qingyu sneered: “Then you’re truly shameless. You kiss whoever you want? Did you get my permission?”
“Weren’t you enjoying it too?”
“With your technique, what was there to enjoy?”
Lu Xiao felt a heavy blow to his heart. His eyes were bloodshot. Shen Qingyu saw the veins throbbing on his arm, as if his fist would land on his face the next second.
But he knew Lu Xiao wouldn’t strike him.
Not even in a situation like this.
“I know my technique isn’t good. I’m already studying.”
“Is that the point?” Shen Qingyu felt the futility of talking to a brick wall.
He felt so frustrated the sky might as well collapse. He never imagined Lu Xiao had unilaterally assumed they were together. No wonder he kept bothering him to chat and sent all those little gifts lately.
Shen Qingyu pressed his hand to his forehead, not even having the strength to force a bitter smile.
“When you were avoiding me back then, wasn’t it because you were shy?” Lu Xiao still refused to believe it was all his own wishful thinking, analyzing the situation logically. “I’ve been so willing, what’s there for you to struggle with? Is there something wrong with me?”
“There’s nothing wrong with you, it’s just…”
His acknowledgment made Lu Xiao’s dim eyes light up again, and he looked at him expectantly.
To Shen Qingyu, that look was like a large, starving dog waiting for its owner to feed it.
If the food this large dog wanted wasn’t Shen Qingyu himself, he might genuinely be moved by that look.
“What do you mean by ‘I’ve been so willing’?” Shen Qingyu genuinely couldn’t understand what he was saying. They were entirely on different wavelengths right now.
“Do you want me to spell it out before you’re satisfied?” Lu Xiao glared at him viciously, a fleeting glint of tears in his bloodshot eyes.
Shen Qingyu: “?”
“I’m willing to be the third party, so what? Is there a problem?”
He said it with surprising self-righteousness.
Shen Qingyu, meanwhile, was bombarded with question marks, unsure where to even begin.
“Wait, what third party are you talking about?”
“I know you and Yang Yu… is that his name?”
Shen Qingyu nodded blankly.
“I know you two are together, and I know Cheng Che is the third party.” Lu Xiao’s jaw was clenched. “I don’t care.”
You don’t care, but I do.
What is all this nonsense???
Why would a homophobic straight guy imagine such a melodramatic plot?
Shen Qingyu never expected to be playing such a role.
He slapped Lu Xiao’s shoulder, stopping him from continuing his “self-pity.”
“Shut up first. Listen to me.”
“Who told you that Yang Yu and I are together? We are just friends—how do I explain the word ‘friend’ to you?” Shen Qingyu said emphatically. “I’m not with Cheng Che either. Can you stop imagining these dramatic plots?”
Lu Xiao was stunned. He looked at Shen Qingyu in disbelief.
Even with his brain momentarily crashed, his ears quickly caught a few words: just friends.
Nothing else mattered. The most important thing was that Shen Qingyu was single. He wasn’t with Yang Yu, and he wasn’t with Cheng Che. Therefore, he belonged only to himself.
Shen Qingyu felt like he couldn’t understand Lu Xiao anymore.
The man’s face, which had been as dark as the bottom of a pot, immediately turned rosy after hearing his explanation.
He even looked a little excited.
“That’s great then. Let’s be together.” Lu Xiao said excitedly.
“Hold on.” Shen Qingyu refused quickly. “I don’t want to.”
Even though Lu Xiao’s self-confidence had been battered many times and had become incredibly resilient, he was still hurt by the direct rejection.
“Why…”
“Only two people in mutual love can be together.” This was the view Shen Qingyu had always upheld.
Lu Xiao eagerly expressed his feelings: “I like you, so of course we are mutu…”
He stopped there, his face ashen. He looked at Shen Qingyu in despair: “Are you saying…”
He finally understood! Shen Qingyu cheered internally. He didn’t say it out loud, only nodded vaguely, indicating that he genuinely didn’t have those feelings for him.
Lu Xiao stepped back two paces, his arms trembling slightly.
Shen Qingyu suddenly felt a pang of softness. Perhaps it would have been better if he had used a gentler approach? After all, they were roommates and would constantly see each other…
“I don’t believe you.” Lu Xiao yelled loudly, “How can you not like me? You care about me, you look after me, and you… always seduce me. Doesn’t that count as liking me?”
Shen Qingyu’s vision went completely dark. Had the misunderstanding between him and Lu Xiao become this deep?
He forced himself, exhausted, to explain: “I don’t know what I did to make you misunderstand, but I can apologize for it…”
Before Shen Qingyu could finish, Lu Xiao quickly interrupted him: “Enough! I don’t want to hear it!”
Lu Xiao was grinding his teeth in anger. He violently clenched his back teeth, his eyes flashing fiercely, his neck flushed red.
He absolutely could not accept Shen Qingyu saying he had never liked him. It made him feel like a clown. Of course, the most tragic thing was that he felt genuine sadness because of it. His heart felt tightly clenched, and the bitter ache completely overshadowed the anger.
A damaged ego seemed insignificant at this moment.
He suddenly wanted to ask Shen Qingyu: Why can’t you like me?
