Chapter 29: “Why do you smell so good?”…
Lu Xiao’s body was radiating heat. Since they were so close, Shen Qingyu, who had just showered, quickly broke out in a thin layer of sweat again.
The entire bathroom was filled with their heavy breathing. Shen Qingyu tried to push him away once more.
Lu Xiao was still absorbed in the deep blow he’d received. No matter what Shen Qingyu said or did, he didn’t respond, only holding him tighter, as if Shen Qingyu would escape the moment he wasn’t paying attention.
Just then, there was a sudden knock on the dorm door. Shen Qingyu trembled, his voice becoming urgent: “Get up! Someone is knocking.”
“No.”
Shen Qingyu had never seen such a shameless person. He tried to calm his breathing, but his voice couldn’t help but rise: “I’ll go open the door!”
Lu Xiao sized him up, then hugged him even tighter. Shen Qingyu nearly suffocated, gasping for air.
“You’re going to open the door dressed like that?”
Shen Qingyu looked down and saw that his chest, which had been pressed against Lu Xiao’s clothes, was red from friction and looked quite indecent.
He said angrily: “Don’t you know why I’m dressed like this?”
“I don’t know.” It was already difficult for the drunk Lu Xiao to hear what he was saying; any form of coherent thought was impossible. His every move was instinctual.
“Let go of me, I need to change,” Shen Qingyu said in a calm, coaxing voice.
Lu Xiao still refused, continuing to rub against him like a little dog. He paused when his gaze lingered on Shen Qingyu’s lips.
He started to regret not kissing him longer just now.
The person outside waited for a long time but received no response. Yet, the dorm light was clearly on. He quietly pushed the door open a crack, poked his head in, and asked, “Anyone home?”
It was an unfamiliar voice. Shen Qingyu took a deep breath and, speaking through the closed bathroom door, raised his voice: “Is everything alright? I’m in the bathroom.”
“The membership cards we handed in last time have been returned. I put them on the table, alright? Distribute them among your dorm.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Shen Qingyu sighed in relief. He had almost exhausted all his strength and could only lean weakly against the door.
In the confined space, the air was almost stagnant. Lu Xiao felt his head spin even more.
But he felt it was primarily due to the close contact he just shared with Shen Qingyu.
Remembering Shen Qingyu’s complaint that his kissing skills were bad, he felt a sudden urge to try again: “Want to try again?”
“What?” Shen Qingyu thought he misheard. “Are you sick?”
He’s still worried about my condition, Lu Xiao thought.
“I’m not sick,” Lu Xiao said very seriously, even flashing an unskilled smile.
Shen Qingyu found the smile extremely unsettling. His eyelid twitched violently a few times: “You are absolutely wasted.”
Lu Xiao was already impatient. He instantly turned into a hungry wolf, lowering his head and kissing him without a second thought.
A faint smell of alcohol rushed in. Shen Qingyu instinctively raised his arm.
“PA!”
A crisp slap echoed throughout the entire bathroom.
Shen Qingyu put all his strength into the slap, making his palm tingle.
He hadn’t expected to unleash such power. He opened his palm in disbelief and saw that it was indeed red.
Lu Xiao’s head snapped to the side from the impact. A bright red handprint instantly appeared on his right cheek. His expression was one of utter confusion.
Shen Qingyu’s slap had completely stunned him.
Shen Qingyu swallowed, his lips trembling slightly. They say you shouldn’t hit someone in the face, and he had not only slapped Lu Xiao but done so with such force.
He estimated that the handprint wouldn’t completely disappear for several days.
“You… Why are you looking at me? You were the one who provoked me first…” Shen Qingyu’s words lacked conviction.
Why am I saying all this to a drunk person? I should just push him away and leave!
Shen Qingyu tried to move his legs, but they were already weak!
He expected Lu Xiao to fly into a rage because of the slap, but after a long silence, Lu Xiao looked at Shen Qingyu with difficulty.
Lu Xiao looked a little dishevelled now, with a bright red handprint on his face, showing shock and grievance in his eyes.
“What are you looking at!” Shen Qingyu bluffed.
Lu Xiao touched his right cheek, hissing as he felt pain, then asked awkwardly, “What kind of shower gel are you actually using?”
Shen Qingyu: “?”
If expressions could be converted into punctuation marks, Shen Qingyu’s face would probably be covered in question marks.
After clearly hearing what Lu Xiao said, he even wondered if his slap had been too hard and simply knocked him senseless.
“Why do you smell so good?” Lu Xiao was dizzy. Apart from the pain, the smell emanating from Shen Qingyu was what stimulated his nerves the most.
Shen Qingyu: “…”
Not waiting for Shen Qingyu’s reply, Lu Xiao finally gave up after holding on for so long. He fell into the crook of Shen Qingyu’s neck, taking a deep breath. Even when pushed, he didn’t forget to hold him tight, settling into a comfortable position to continue acting foolish.
It took Shen Qingyu half an hour to finally get Lu Xiao out of the bathroom.
He finally managed to coax Lu Xiao into bed to sleep, leaving Shen Qingyu exhausted and sweating again.
“That shower was completely pointless,” Shen Qingyu changed his clothes, stood with his hands on his hips under the air conditioner’s cold breeze, and angrily delivered a mental combo punch to Lu Xiao.
Lu Xiao muttered in his sleep, which completely dissuaded Shen Qingyu from taking another shower. He was afraid Lu Xiao would start his drunken antics again while he was in the middle of washing.
…
Because of this incident, Shen Qingyu completely avoided Lu Xiao for a week.
During this week, whenever he sensed Lu Xiao was about to speak to him, he would either immediately turn to talk to someone else or pretend to be extremely busy, making it impossible for Lu Xiao to interrupt.
And to avoid seeing Lu Xiao, Shen Qingyu’s schedule basically mirrored Song Yu’s: leaving early and returning late every day, giving Lu Xiao no opportunity to corner him.
Lu Xiao didn’t think much of it. He only thought Shen Qingyu was shy, which was perfectly normal.
He had already defaulted to seeing himself as a member of Shen Qingyu’s “harem.” Currently, his biggest threat was Cheng Che. All week, his mind was consumed with how to eliminate this major concern, become the ‘King of the Lovers’, and then slowly eliminate Yang Yu, leaving him as Shen Qingyu’s only one.
…
After avoiding him for a while, Shen Qingyu realized Lu Xiao seemed much calmer and more rational than he had expected.
Shen Qingyu twirled the gel pen in his hand, occasionally poking and dotting his practice booklet. Only when the booklet was covered in black ink dots did he close the pen in frustration.
He wanted to throw the pen aside but was afraid the noise would disturb others in the library, so Shen Qingyu could only hold the soft pen in his hand and sulk.
Given Lu Xiao’s personality, if he remembered what happened that day, he definitely wouldn’t let Shen Qingyu avoid him like this.
So, there was only one possibility—he has blackout amnesia when drunk.
This seemed like a good thing, but Shen Qingyu was somehow annoyed.
Wasn’t this a classic novel trope: The jerk takes advantage of someone and then casually says, “I have amnesia”?
Shen Qingyu, filled with frustration, couldn’t study; he got angry just looking at a word!
He rushed back to the dorm and saw Lu Xiao sitting in front of his computer, playing games as if nothing had happened. The loud clattering of the keyboard hurt Shen Qingyu’s ears.
As Shen Qingyu walked past Lu Xiao, he suddenly took off his headphones and hung them around his neck, his hand accurately grasping Shen Qingyu’s wrist.
Such a thin wrist, Lu Xiao thought. I could grab two of these with one hand.
Shen Qingyu refused to speak to him and tried to pull his hand away, but Lu Xiao held it tightly. So, he could only glare at him angrily.
Like a small, frustrated animal, Lu Xiao didn’t care about his gaze at all, and even lightly scratched Shen Qingyu’s palm.
Lu Xiao: “Are you hungry?”
Shen Qingyu: “Are you offering to buy me dinner?”
Lu Xiao: “Yeah, what do you want to eat?”
Lu Xiao was usually very generous, always buying the best of everything. After hearing that his father had donated a building to the school, Shen Qingyu was no longer surprised by his extravagant spending habits.
“Whatever,” Shen Qingyu said sullenly.
In the past, Lu Xiao would have said, “I’m treating you to dinner, what’s with that attitude?”
But now, he found Shen Qingyu’s tantrum incredibly cute, so cute that he wanted to pull him into his arms and kiss him fiercely a few times. However, he held back, as he hadn’t forgotten Shen Qingyu’s comment about his bad kissing skills, which was a huge blow to his pride.
“Alright, I’ll look at the food delivery app then.” Lu Xiao completely ignored his teammates’ fate in the game and started scrolling through the app.
Lu Xiao’s sudden good temper struck Shen Qingyu as even more bizarre.
Completely unaware of Shen Qingyu’s internal thoughts, Lu Xiao believed that Shen Qingyu’s current small display of temper was entirely due to shyness.
He also realized he had been a bit rash, but the result was good. At least Shen Qingyu was showing little expressions he had never displayed before when talking to him.
What is this if not preference?
What is this if not special treatment?
Lu Xiao happily browsed the food delivery app, ordering a few dishes from a restaurant he frequented.
“Here, see if you want to order anything else.” He handed the phone to Shen Qingyu very naturally, not forgetting to seize the opportunity to rub his smooth hand back.
Shen Qingyu: “Is this enough food for just one person?”
“Just the two of us,” Lu Xiao specifically emphasized the words “the two of us.”
“That’s too much. We won’t finish it.” Shen Qingyu removed a few dishes based on his selections. “Just these.”
Before handing the phone back to Lu Xiao, Shen Qingyu glanced at the final price and couldn’t help but sigh mentally: “Wow, are these dishes stir-fried with gold? So expensive, and they don’t even waive the delivery fee!”
Lu Xiao’s phone rang inconveniently. He made an irritated “Tsk” sound and slid to answer: “Say what you need to say, quickly.”
He put the call on speaker, and Shen Qingyu heard clearly. The person on the other end was also a guy, likely very close to Lu Xiao, otherwise, he wouldn’t speak so brazenly: “Lu Xiao, what the hell is wrong with you? Are you deliberately screwing me over?”
Lu Xiao: “?”
“Do you know what time it is here? You woke me up in the middle of the night to play games with you, and then you just went AFK! I was playing with a girl!”
“Oh.” Lu Xiao finally remembered he was playing a game. He glanced at the blackened screen and said flatly, “I’m not playing anymore. You guys continue.”
“Am I seriously indebted to you?! You have to help us win that back, or do you think I won’t buy a ticket right now and come mess you up!”
“Go ahead,” Lu Xiao chuckled carelessly, leaning back in his chair like a boss. “Don’t forget who helped you out when you snuck back to the country last time. Did you pay me back?”
At the mention of this, the person on the other end of the phone was speechless. He stuttered and cursed, “Fine, you win. Wait until you come over for school, and you’ll see how I ‘host’ you!”
He hung up after throwing out a final threat.
Shen Qingyu had been eavesdropping the whole time. Based on their conversation, he deduced that Lu Xiao’s friend was abroad, and… Lu Xiao himself might be leaving the country.
Shen Qingyu’s heart skipped a beat. He almost forgot: Lu Xiao’s program was a 2+2 program. After completing two years at Wen University, he would have to go abroad for his studies.
