- Chapter 80 - He Is the Mermaid from the Dream
At that moment, the sound of rushing water suddenly echoed from the oversized bathtub nearby, and steam instantly filled the air.
The man’s jet-black short hair began to undergo a startling transformation, growing like vines down to his chest, its color shifting to a pure, sacred snow-white, reminiscent of snow lotus blossoms atop a mountain peak.
He lifted his head, his intense gaze fixed on Si Tang. On his strikingly handsome face, beneath snow-white lashes, a pair of eerie blue eyes were revealed, their stare as sticky and shadowy as a spider’s web.
A wicked smile curled his lips, and Si Tang’s pupils contracted sharply.
The face before her perfectly overlapped with the mermaid from her dream.
He was the mermaid from her dream!
While Si Tang was still reeling in shock, staring dumbfounded at his breathtakingly beautiful face, Fan Yi suddenly scooped her up and, in a few quick strides, sank with her into the nearby bathtub filled with warm water.
Si Tang gasped in alarm.
In the next moment, swirling mist blurred her vision, and the sensation of warm, enveloping water instantly pulled her back into fragments of her dream.
The girl’s lovely face flushed a rosy hue like plums from the steam, her eyelashes fluttering incessantly as her chest heaved from the overwhelming shock. Her soaked clothes fell open, revealing a shimmering fish scale at the center of her collarbone.
At that moment, Fan Yi lightly tugged at his shirt, and the garment vanished. Beneath the water, a fishtail slowly unfurled, then like a predator lying in wait, poised to strike suddenly coiled around Si Tang’s legs, dragging her forcefully in front of him, forcing her to straddle his tail and face him directly.
The silvery-white fishtail glimmered brilliantly under the light, its undulating scales identical to the fish scale necklace resting on Si Tang’s chest.
“It’s you” Si Tang murmured in astonishment, the two words slipping from her lips as understanding dawned.
Fan Yi narrowed his eyes slightly, his deep blue orbs like pure sapphires mysterious and mesmerizing. A fleeting glint passed through his gaze.
“It’s me.” His hand cupped her eyes as he suddenly murmured with a trace of resentment, “Tang Tang, you’re a liar.”
“You deceived my feelings.”
“You promised to bond with me, yet you left without a word.”
Si Tang’s expression grew even more stunned.
Her face showed doubt, skepticism, disbelief, and a hint of self-reflection.
Fan Yi extended his palm, where a soft white light flickered. In the next second, an amber pendant in the shape of a leaf appeared. Si Tang recognized it instantly it was the heirloom her mother had left her! The missing pendant was actually in Fan Yi’s possession.
His voice was sincere and resolute as he gazed at her intently, a touch of tenderness in his eyes.
“We were once in love,” he said. “This is the token of affection you gave me.”
Si Tang: “…”
Her brows furrowed deeply, her expression one of utter disbelief as she stared at the face before her.
Damp moisture clung to his lashes, his clear blue eyes pure and captivating as they looked at her softly and earnestly, appearing innocent and harmless.
“Really?” Her tone was filled with doubt.
“Of course,” he replied firmly, suddenly lifting his tail to show her the crimson scar on its side. “Because I plucked my most beautiful scale for you, I was left with a permanent scar when I endured the trials of love.”
“Tang Tang, you have to take responsibility for me.”
“You promised me that you would always be with me. Once I endured the trials of love, you would bond with me. But you lost your memory due to an accident, the Chief God intervened, you were taken away from the island, and I was trapped in the deep sea by the Chief God, unable to search for you these past three years.”
He spoke with such conviction, his tone gradually filling with grievance and resentment, as though she had betrayed him.
In his recounted story, they shared a tragic and beautiful love that was thwarted by obstacles.
After he finished his lengthy explanation, Si Tang’s skeptical gaze remained fixed on him.
Now, the physical evidence was all here but as for the witness, who knew if he could be trusted?
Having suffered deeply from this, Si Tang could no longer trust this face or the words it spoke.
She suddenly asked, “Then why didn’t you say so from the beginning?”
Fan Yi feigned a helpless sigh. “If I had told you from the start, would you have believed me?”
Si Tang pondered for a moment and realized she truly wouldn’t have believed him in fact, she would have been frightened by his identity.
Knowing herself well, Si Tang understood that, from the perspective of identity, she was unlikely to accept Fan Yi, who was not human.
Her guarded expression became more apparent.
Moreover, this man, who had been as elegant and refined as the bright moon in the morning, had suddenly transformed into a sinister and obsessive madman!
The possessiveness in his eyes was impossible to conceal.
Could she really have fallen in love with such a madman?
“A soul’s eternal contract? I agreed to that? But I’ve lost my memory now, how can I be sure what you’re saying is true? It would be better to wait until my memories return; then we can discuss everything properly,” Si Tang reasoned logically.
Fan Yi’s expression darkened.
“Or you could tell me the story of how we met, got to know each other, and fell in love. Maybe it will help me remember something,” Si Tang suggested earnestly.
Fan Yi: “…”
He was left speechless.
Meeting, knowing, and falling in love?
The moment he recalled their first encounter, Fan Yi felt a headache coming on, deeply regretting the time he transformed into a monster in front of Si Tang, opening his bloody maw to devour a whale! Moreover, Si Tang had read his diary and knew he had once eaten many people!
If her memories ever returned, wouldn’t she loathe and fear him to death?
Si Tang didn’t understand why he had fallen silent, simply staring at her intently. The fear she had felt earlier began to resurface.
She stiffly averted her gaze, growing even more suspicious of him. For now, Si Tang decided to placate him.
“Anyway, let’s talk about the bonding later, if what you’re saying is true,” Si Tang murmured softly, her tone dismissive.
He didn’t respond, only casting a few subtly resentful glances her way. After a long silence, he finally spoke slowly.
“As you wish.”
Hearing this, Si Tang felt a bit more at ease, but his next words immediately set her on edge again.
“However, to prevent Tang Tang from running away, you must first sign another contract with me.”
“What?” Si Tang exclaimed in shock.
“It will be beneficial for you,” he said with a gentle laugh, his demeanor suddenly reminiscent of the Fan Yi she once knew.
“Tang Tang has forgotten everything, so you must have forgotten your original fate line,” he suddenly remarked out of the blue.
“Fate line?” Si Tang held her breath, a tense string tightening in her mind as if some secret were about to be revealed.
“Yes.” Calmly, he raised his hand, a white light flickering at his fingertips as a manual materialized. “This is the Scroll of Fate.”
With a wave of his hand, a line of text from the scroll unfolded before Si Tang’s eyes.
“Si Tang: Eldest daughter of the Si family in the imperial capital. After surviving a shipwreck, her reputation was tarnished. She fell in love with He Moheng at first sight. After marriage, He Moheng schemed to take her shares and, together with her stepsister Si Xi, seized control of the Si family. The Si family was later taken over by He Moheng and renamed. Si Tang was framed by Si Xi for plagiarism and imprisoned for eight years. She was poisoned by Chen Yue and, after her release, ended up homeless, fell ill, and tragically died at the age of 31.”
Si Tang:
Her eyes widened as she stared at the words, stopping at “fell in love with He Moheng at first sight.” None of the events that followed had happened.
“This is the old version,” Fan Yi answered the question in her mind. “After I found you, I began secretly preventing all of this from happening.”
Si Tang suddenly recalled the details and asked, “Was it you who sent me the text message warning me about He Moheng and Si Xi at Nian Tang?”
