He Corporation.
As the elevator doors slid open, a young man in a tailored suit was already waiting. “Miss Si, I’m Mr. He’s assistant. Please follow me.”
Walking through the spacious, brightly lit corridor, Si Tang noticed several abstract paintings hanging on the walls. Her gaze lingered a moment longer on one particularly bold piece.
“Are you interested in Mark Rothko’s work, Miss Si?” the assistant asked, noticing her attention.
“I just thought the color palette was quite uniqulike an explosion within restraint,” Si Tang replied casually. To her surprise, a flicker of astonishment crossed the assistant’s eyes.
“Mr. He often says the same about this painting,” he murmured softly before stopping in front of a pair of intricately carved double doors. He knocked gently.
“Come in.” He Chenzhou’s deep, indifferent voice sounded from inside.
Si Tang entered just as He Chenzhou finished reviewing a contract. Seeing her, he gave a slight nod.
“Vice President Si. Please have a seat.”
The entire office exuded understated luxury, decorated in simple shades of gray and white. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a view of towering skyscrapers outside. Seated behind his desk, He Chenzhou’s handsome, noble features held just the right amount of aloofness, his entire presence radiating a restrained yet dangerous aura.
Si Tang sat across from him.
“You mentioned that your new collection, ‘Endless Night,’ incorporates the ink-wash gradient aesthetics of Eastern art. Since the last design draft was leaked, I’d like to see the new proposal you’ve prepared for He Corporation’s 30th anniversary.”
“Here are the designs for the new collection, Mr. He.”
He Chenzhou’s gaze inadvertently paused on her slender, pale wrist for a moment before he politely reached out to take the design drafts. As he did, his fingertips accidentally brushed against hers.
It was just a fleeting touch, and Si Tang paid it no mind. But He Chenzhou froze for a split second.
He didn’t actually mind.
Quickly regaining his composure, He Chenzhou unfolded the drawings, his eyes scanning every detail with intense focus.
From Si Tang’s perspective, his thick eyelashes cast faint shadows beneath his eyes, softening the sharp, aggressive edge to his demeanor. There was a contradictory charm about this man both commanding and restrained, like a volcano with a calm surface.
“Explain your concept,” he said without looking up.
Si Tang pulled her attention back and began to elaborate, “I want to utilize the unique characteristics of the gemstones themselves, capturing every structural variation through design. In other words, it’s the design that enhances them, not the other way around. Every raw stone has its own suitable design and story.”
He Chenzhou listened to her explanation, a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips as he offered unreserved praise, “Not bad. Compared to the previous version the student has surpassed the master.”
With that, Si Tang finally relaxed completely.
Over the next half hour, the two delved into a detailed discussion about the designs. To Si Tang’s surprise and admiration, He Chenzhou possessed remarkable insight into jewelry design, and his suggestions for revisions hit the mark every time.
They quickly finalized the direction for revisions and the deadline. Just as she was gathering the drawings to leave, the office door was abruptly thrown open.
“Chenzhou! Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”
Si Tang instinctively looked up and saw a woman in a custom-made red suit storm in, her meticulously made-up face filled with fury. Her eyes swept over Si Tang and instantly turned sharper. “Is she the fiancée you’ve been hiding all these years?”
The air in the office seemed to freeze.
Si Tang felt somewhat awkward as she glanced at He Chenzhou, who remained as cold and unruffled as still water, his expression betraying no emotion.
“Lin Ya, get out.” His tone was devoid of feeling, yet his presence was icy and imposing. “Who gave you permission to enter without announcing yourself?”
The moment the name was spoken, Si Tang finally figured out who this person was. She had heard a little about the daughter of the Lin family, who had close ties with the He Corporation.
The woman called Lin Ya didn’t retreat but instead took a few steps forward. “I called you over a dozen times! Why didn’t you answer me?”
After speaking in a slightly aggrieved tone, her gaze immediately locked fiercely onto Si Tang, only to suddenly feel as if she had seen this woman somewhere before. Before she could figure it out, He Chenzhou spoke again.
“Miss Si is a business partner of the He Corporation. Please show some respect.” His voice dropped to a dangerously low pitch. “What I do is none of your concern.”
Lin Ya’s face flushed bright red. She finally realized who this woman was.
Si Tang, the eldest daughter of the Si family the very person her best friend, Si Xi, despised the most! And now, she was the person Lin Ya despised the most too!
She’s married! When had He Chenzhou ever defended a woman like this? It must be this married woman seducing him!
“We grew up together, and you say it’s none of my business? Everyone knows how long I’ve liked you! Brother Chenzhou, you must be bewitched by this seductress! Wake up she’s married!” Lin Ya began to shout and scream.
He Chenzhou had never found Lin Ya so grating before. For some reason, the phrase “she’s married” echoed in his ears for a moment, unusually clear.
“Unreasonable.” He Chenzhou rubbed his temples. As soon as the words left his mouth, his assistant finally pushed the door open and entered, accompanied by two security guards.
“Miss Lin, I told you the CEO is in a meeting. Please stop causing a disturbance!”
As Lin Ya was escorted away, her shouts gradually faded down the hallway. The office returned to silence, and an awkward quiet began to spread.
“Sorry you had to see that,” He Chenzhou said, turning to Si Tang, his tone softening slightly. “Lin Ya is the daughter of my father’s business partner. We did grow up together, but she has misunderstood some things.”
Si Tang nodded understandingly. “You’re an outstanding man, Mr. He. It’s normal for people to pursue you. I’m fine in a TV drama, I’d probably have been slapped by now.”
Hearing this, a faint trace of amusement flickered in He Chenzhou’s deep, ink-like eyes.
Still, Si Tang found it a bit strange.
For someone of He Chenzhou’s status, if he really had a fiancée, she would surely have appeared at social events. Strangely, even his childhood friend didn’t seem to know who this person was. It was as if, this person didn’t exist at all.
Si Tang shook her head, deciding not to dwell on it. This was just another business collaboration; her client’s personal affairs were none of her concern.
“My assistant will see you out shortly. Send the revised design drafts directly to me once they’re ready.” He Chenzhou had regained his composure, as if the earlier commotion had never happened.
Si Tang nodded. “I won’t disturb you any further.”
She tactfully exited the room first and turned to see the assistant returning.
“Vice President Si, this way, please.” He pressed the elevator button.
Meanwhile, in the basement of Haiyuan.
Fan Yi stared at the Tianyan screen, spread out like a light panel, as if trying to bore a hole through it with his gaze.
“What’s so great about him? He can’t even sort out the human females around him.” Fan Yi snorted coldly, silently deducting points for He Chenzhou in Si Tang’s heart until they fell into the negatives.
