- Chapter 46 - Hidden Gaze
Fan Yi set the cat in his arms down, and the moment its paws touched the ground, it seemed to react as if startled, frantically trying to run in all directions.
“Tsk.”
Si Tang faintly heard an extremely low, impatient sound.
Then, as if under a spell, the cat obediently walked over to Si Tang, curled up into a ball, and stayed put.
Si Tang, “…”
Why does this little thing seem so pitiful?
She crouched down and picked up the kitten, holding it in her arms. The kitten, as if having found a safe harbor, burrowed into Si Tang’s embrace and refused to come out, as though something terrifying lurked outside.
“Tangtang. is quite timid,” Si Tang said, though for some reason, she found the homophonic nickname extremely awkward.
“It likes you. Why don’t I just give it to you?”
Si Tang: Isn’t that a bit too casual???
“Si Tang, have you had dinner yet?” Xiao Liu asked from the side.
“No, not yet.”
“Perfect, we haven’t either. Let’s eat together.”
Under the enthusiastic invitation, Si Tang agreed. However.
She really wanted to ask who would be cooking.
“I’ll make dinner,” Fan Yi suddenly said calmly.
This came as a surprise to both Si Tang and 8856. 8856 had assumed Lord Fan Yi would continue to exploit him.
“Then I’ll help you out in the kitchen,” Si Tang offered, feeling too embarrassed to eat without contributing.
In the kitchen, Fan Yi initially thought of slacking off by using a bit of divine trickery to get by. It was his first time cooking for Tangtang, and he didn’t want to serve anything subpar.
But Si Tang was standing behind him, watching as if expecting him to showcase his skills.
For the first time, Fan Yi felt a sense of embarrassment.
He searched his mind for recipes, but the knife that never trembled when cutting demons and monsters now wobbled clumsily as he chopped vegetables.
He took a subtle, deep breath.
Perhaps this knife was only meant for cutting people.
Unable to bear it any longer, Fan Yi set the knife down and turned around to see Si Tang, who had just finished washing the vegetables, looking at him with innocent curiosity.
“Tangtang, why don’t you step out? I can handle this on my own,” Fan Yi said, gently pushing her shoulders without waiting for a reply, firmly guiding her out of the kitchen.
Si Tang froze for a moment, then fell into thought.
On her shoulders, the lingering coolness of his touch remained. Does this person have a peculiar constitution?
And what did he just call her? Tangtang. It sounded so similar to the breathy, indistinct voice in her dream.
What am I thinking?!
Si Tang couldn’t help but cover her flushed face as those secret, unknown dreams involuntarily flashed through her mind.
Fan Yi’s efficiency was surprisingly fast.
The table was soon laden with dishes that looked and smelled exquisite. As Si Tang glanced over them, she noticed perhaps by coincidence that not a single dish was one she disliked.
A faint sense of strangeness flickered through her. Maybe it really was just a coincidence.
However, during the meal, Si Tang noticed another oddity.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” she asked, glancing at Xiao Liu, who was wolfing down his food, and then at Fan Yi, who sat motionless at the head of the table.
“I’m… not hungry,” Fan Yi replied after a pause.
8856 muttered to himself: He doesn’t like this kind of food. He prefers humans raw ones, at that.
“How can that be? Won’t you get hungry if you skip dinner?” Si Tang said.
What a strange person.
“I ate in the afternoon, so I’m not hungry,” Fan Yi had to explain.
Si Tang nodded in understanding. After finishing her meal, she stood up to head upstairs.
“Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Fan Yi,” she said politely.
“You can call me Fan Yi from now on.” Fan Yi also stood up, the light casting a shadow over his handsome features, so Si Tang couldn’t quite make out the expression in his eyes. “After all. we’re friends now, aren’t we?”
That word “friends” was uttered in a low, gentle tone, enough to bewitch one’s senses. A fleeting sense of familiarity flashed through her mind, but Si Tang couldn’t grasp it.
Even after going upstairs and closing her bedroom door, Si Tang could still hear her own racing heartbeat.
From the moment she stepped into this villa, Si Tang had felt an indescribable sense of strangeness, and it wasn’t until she opened the wardrobe that it intensified.
Luxurious dresses of various colors, each one perfectly aligned with her tastes. Looking back at the room’s design and decor. every detail seemed tailored to her preferences.
As if to confirm her thoughts, Fan Yi sent her a message at that very moment.
“The clothes in the wardrobe were all prepared according to your preferences. I believe this is a basic gesture of sincerity, as I hold Miss Si Tang in high regard. I hope it doesn’t trouble you.”
The words were frank yet appropriately distant. Her contractual husband. had to be said, he truly knew how to read people.
Si Tang put away her phone, her tension easing slightly as she stepped into the bathroom.
On the other end of the line.
In the dimly lit basement, Fan Yi wore a faint smile as he fixed his gaze on the massive screen before him. From the moment Si Tang entered the villa, her every move had been under his surveillance.
In such a setting, 8856 and the trident were naturally left outside.
He wasn’t exactly a master of disguise. So, he decided to reveal a part of his intentions.
Tangtang must think he’s a gentleman who knows when to advance and when to retreat.
His eyes glued to the screen, where Si Tang lay in the bathtub. In the steamy, humid air, the rising mist traced her pure, delicate brows and her soft, rosy lips.
“Tangtang.” Fan Yi lightly brushed his lips with his fingers, his eyes flickering with desire. A wild longing surged from the depths, and his dark pupils turned a deep, eerie blue from the loss of control.
A moment later, the corners of his lips curled into a sickly, obsessive smile, as if he had already envisioned the girl falling in love with him.
In the bathroom, after her bath, Si Tang stood up and picked up a towel to dry herself. As she did, she glanced down and noticed the necklace around her neck, instinctively reaching out to touch it.
Three years later, this necklace, which had initially been plain and ordinary, now shimmered with a flowing, iridescent glow under the warm light.
This color. bore a slight resemblance to the hue of the pearl from her birthday banquet.
Si Tang took it off to examine it closely and realized it truly was different.
Could it be that during those three years, she had, like Alice in Wonderland, ventured into some Atlantis-like realm?
At this thought, Si Tang couldn’t help but laugh at herself. As a materialist, how could she entertain such a fanciful, fairy-tale notion?
Shaking her head, she put on her clothes, draped a bathrobe over herself, and stepped out of the bathroom.
She had expected to struggle with insomnia on her first night in an unfamiliar environment, but to her surprise, Si Tang quickly drifted into a dream.
It was the same dream.
Si Tang only knew she was in a warm spring, everything around her blurred and indistinct.
As her thoughts grew muddled, a scorching embrace suddenly pressed against her from behind.
Instinctively, Si Tang tried to scream, but her chin was tilted, and her lips were swiftly sealed by a fierce kiss.
“Mmph.”
Si Tang instinctively struggled, only to have her lower lip bitten hard.
“Tangtang. you’re so warm.” The voice beside her ear murmured incessantly, tender and lingering to the extreme.
He said she was warm, yet he was clearly the one burning like a flame, threatening to consume her entirely.
