- Chapter 30 - Back on Track
Returning to her room, Si Tang blinked wearily, but her nerves remained on edge.
They were still over the Atlantic Ocean, not yet entirely free from Fan Yi’s domain.
She removed the seemingly ordinary fish-scale necklace from her neck, gazed at it for a few seconds, then placed it in a brocade box and tossed it into the bedside drawer.
Afterward, she went to the window and silently watched the predawn sea.
Suddenly, an icy blue light fell upon the water’s surface. Si Tang’s heart skipped a beat, but before she could focus her gaze, she abruptly and inexplicably fainted.
In her dazed unconsciousness, she faintly heard an unfamiliar, deep male voice clear and compassionate.
“So, it’s you.”
Si Tang felt as though she had sunk into a dense fog with no path forward.
In her memory, many fragments gradually blurred.
Everything from the past seemed like flowers in a mirror or the moon reflected in water illusory and fleeting.
A moment later, Fan You silently observed the sleeping girl. The deity, clad in snow-white robes that shimmered like moonlight, radiated an undeniable divinity.
With a slight movement of his fingertip, a pure white crystal paper crane flew from his palm.
“Go.”
“Tell Shana, the Goddess of Fate, that the threads of destiny have been set right.”
As the dawn light spilled over the Atlantic, the morning appeared no different from any other, yet beneath the sea’s surface, undercurrents surged violently.
A trident, sharp and formidable, was thrust into a crevice in the rocks, scattering dust. The once-mighty divine weapon now seemed somewhat worn and battered.
The deity emerged from the deep sea, his body stained with blood.
The hem of his ink-black robes, trailing on the ground, was soaked with dark bloodstains, dyeing the sand he passed a vivid crimson that glittered brilliantly under the sunlight, yet carried an air of tragic desolation.
The deity arrived at the cave, only to find it empty. The island was deserted.
Exhausted, Fan Yi leaned weakly against a tree, remaining silent for a long while before finally letting out a chilling laugh.
Summoning his last ounce of strength, he soared into the air. The trident, sensing his call, instantly enlarged. Fan Yi’s eyes, usually blue, now gleamed with a frenzied madness.
With a single strike, the trident split the sea in two, stirring up towering waves.
Even gravely wounded, he possessed enough power to throw this lowly world’s oceans into chaos.
Fan Yi wandered tirelessly over the Atlantic, the trident infused with his overwhelming rage, overturning every patch of sea he passed.
Yet he knew deep down that it was all in vain.
Because her presence was no longer anywhere in the Atlantic.
“8856!” Fan Yi called out, his eyes burning with murderous intent, his hoarse voice conveying his bitter resentment.
If 8856 were before him, it would not doubt his desire to crush it.
Meanwhile, 8856 was on the Atlantic shore, complaining to the Chief Deity.
“Chief Deity, that fish has gone mad!”
Before the golden light stood a white-robed man with silver hair and gray eyes. He held a cosmic scepter that gleamed like ice, his expression supremely serene and cold. Between his brows rested an aura of intimidating divinity, reminiscent of a blooming mystical lotus. His gray eyes seemed to hold the ancient cosmos within them, yet also appeared utterly vacant.
Fan You watched as the Atlantic’s waves suddenly grew turbulent and sighed almost imperceptibly. Lifting a hand, he lightly pointed, sending a strand of icy blue light flying toward the sea.
In an instant, the restless waters calmed.
Before long, Fan Yi’s divine power was depleted. His severely wounded body sank heavily into the depths of the sea, the trident resting quietly in his embrace. The icy tides surged around him, dulling the burning pain of his physical wounds, yet the ache in his chest felt even more profound than any physical agony.
Deep beneath the waves lay Atlantis.
Fan Yi’s face was pale as he raised his hand and swept it forward in a fit of rage, instantly reducing the already crumbling Atlantis to complete ruins.
The deity sat slumped atop the debris, shattered jade scattered around his feet. His snow-white long hair drifted with the dark currents, and the fleeting reflections of light falling upon him only accentuated his desolate yet haunting beauty.
“Fan Yi.”
A cold, calm voice sounded softly from behind.
Hearing that familiar voice, Fan Yi immediately lifted his head and turned to look at the newcomer.
“Brother.” Fan Yi’s eyes flickered as he stood up. “I want to go to the surface to find someone.”
Fan You gazed quietly at Fan Yi before him.
He had now revealed his true form, but the once iridescent tail was now covered in deep, bone-exposing wounds. The scales were cracked all over, a horrifying sight, with traces of scorching still visible. The heavenly thunder of the love tribulation was terrifyingly powerful, and even the deity’s formidable self-healing ability was nearly useless against it.
Fan You’s gaze then shifted to Fan Yi’s brow. He could clearly see the flawless white blossom of the love thread, swaying vibrantly, lending Fan Yi’s features an unexpectedly innocent appearance.
What was done was done. He had ultimately arrived a step too late.
Fan You sighed, his eyes devoid of emotion, yet his tone carried a hint of pity.
“Mortals and deities are fundamentally different. Forget it.”
As he spoke, he raised his hand, intending to place a restriction on Fan Yi’s memories.
In his current state, Fan Yi had no ability to resist. He abruptly looked up, meeting Fan You’s gaze directly. His frenzied eyes held a madness that would stop at nothing, a murderous aura that would slay even gods. His tone was filled with accusation.
“What, brother? Are you going to place another restriction on my memories again?”
Hearing this, a faint ripple stirred in Fanyou’s eyes. Gazing into those fervent, obsessive eyes, the tension in his heart slowly eased.
He inexplicably recalled his companion who had fallen in the War of the Gods back then, Fan Yi had not yet been born.
Unaware of Fan You’s thoughts, Fan Yi’s desolate, indifferent gray eyes wavered slightly, his expression unreadable, and he unexpectedly released his grip.
Fan Yi continued, “Those three thousand years of memories weren’t lost because of that divine punishment thunder. It was you who did it. Why did you do this, brother?”
The turbulence in Fan You’s eyes had already settled as he replied calmly, “During those three thousand years, you were steeped in evil, committing countless atrocities. I merely wanted to temper and suppress your bloodlust.”
For after that incident, though Fan Yi had forgotten it, his temperament had grown even more violent and unpredictable.
Pausing here, he looked at Fan Yi and asked, “You’ve remembered everything?”
Fan Yi pressed his lips together lightly, finding it rare to see the Lord God Fan You in a moment of tension. What was he so concerned about?
Fan Yi stared at him for a long while before speaking.
“Only parts of it. However, what happened during those dozen years I went missing three thousand years ago? And why did you later place a restriction on my memories? What is it that you’re so reluctant to speak of, brother?”
This time, Fan You did not answer him.
Fan You’s divine power was the embodiment of creation, all-encompassing and vastly different from Fan Yi’s. Healing magic was as simple and ordinary to him as breathing.
Expressionlessly, he raised his hand and casually tossed a healing spell to alleviate Fan Yi’s external injuries. Then, right there atop the ruins in the deep sea, he constructed a “cage.”
A single ice crystal fell from the Cosmic Scepter, instantly blooming into an ice-blue shield of light, resembling a massive crystal ball floating above Atlantis, imprisoning the severely wounded Fan Yi within.
“Heal properly. From today onward, you are forbidden to take even half a step away from here. This place will not be unsealed until a hundred years have passed.”
After speaking, Fan You ignored Fan Yi’s futile, violent thrashing of his injured tail against the crystal barrier within the barrier and calmly summoned 8856.
8856 timidly appeared, huddling behind Fan You, not daring to look at Fan Yi’s expression.
He had messed up the task Fan Yi assigned him, but who knew the Lord God would show up! He couldn’t afford to offend either of them right now, he was barely keeping himself together!
Trembling, 8856 awaited punishment, silently bracing for his impending miserable fate.
“Considering you had no choice, I will give you a chance to redeem yourself by keeping an eye on him,” Fan You said coldly. “However, I will announce to the gods that Fan Yi, due to his unruly behavior, caused a sea disaster and disrupted the mortal realm, and as punishment, he will be imprisoned at the bottom of the sea for a hundred years. Do you understand what should and should not be said?”
8856 was inwardly shocked.
Was he really being let off just like that? The Lord God, known among the gods for his fairness, strictness, and sacred majesty, was actually a doting brother! His intention was to conceal the truth from the other gods. This explanation was for the Fate Goddess and the rest of the deities.
A romance between a god and a mortal was fundamentally unacceptable by divine law. As the embodiment of power and the second-generation god personally nurtured by the Father God from inorganic stone, endowed with the power of the sea god, Fan Yi was already the target of envy and resentment.
After the great war among the gods, where the first-generation gods eliminated the Dark God, only the Lord God, the God of Light, and the Fate Goddess remained among the twelve deities on the Celestial Ladder. The divine seats on the ladder were left vacant, yet Fan Yi was born standing upon it.
8856 knew that the fewer people aware of this matter, the better. A chill ran through his entire being.
8856 responded resolutely, “Yes, Lord God!”
Fan You withdrew his gaze, letting it linger for a moment on the frenzied Fan Yi within the crystal barrier, feeling a sense of helplessness. Three thousand years had passed, and he still hadn’t changed at all. Divine love is vast, when would he ever learn it?
He recalled the girl’s familiar-looking eyes, his gaze growing complex.
A human’s lifespan is no more than a hundred years. By the time Fan Yi emerged from his imprisonment, that human’s soul would have long since reincarnated into the next life.
Across three thousand worlds and countless living beings, it was unlikely they would ever meet again.
Fan You gently waved his sleeve, a faint ice-blue light shimmering, and in the blink of an eye, he vanished from the spot.
