- Chapter 16 - My Friend
Yet, whether through submission or resistance, Si Tang found herself utterly powerless to alter the situation.
So, after mentally steeling herself a thousand times over, she gritted her teeth, her voice seeming to squeeze out from her throat.
“Alright. I’ll help you, Lord Fan Yi.”
Then, as if throwing caution to the wind, Si Tang closed her eyes and began to stroke his burning chest with her hand.
Fan Yi’s entire body stiffened.
Si Tang kept her eyes shut, as if resigned to her fate, so she didn’t see his expression.
She only heard what sounded like a swallow, then felt his lips press against her ear as he spoke in a low, husky voice.
“Mmm. well done.”
Si Tang’s mind immediately short-circuited. In her head, she screamed a thousand times Disgusting fish! Shameless!
This was just a temporary measure, just a way to please him so she could go home.
Si Tang brainwashed herself.
In her view, all his reactions were due to this sudden onset of heat. It definitely wasn’t because he had any improper thoughts about her.
And since she was helping him through his heat whether passively or actively he needed her assistance.
Since things hadn’t gone any further, Si Tang convinced herself she could afford to be bold.
“I, helped you. Lord Fan Yi, we’re friends now.”
Then she cautiously waited for his response.
He was silent for a few seconds before Si Tang felt him gently stroke the ends of her hair, his tone unprecedentedly soft and friendly.
“Mmm, my friend.”
Unfortunately, Si Tang failed to detect the underlying meaning in his words.
The tension she had been holding in her heart finally eased, and utterly exhausted, she collapsed weakly into Fan Yi’s embrace.
As Fan Yi’s desire subsided, he looked down at the sleeping girl in his arms, her cheeks flushed pink, his gaze deepening once more. He carried her limp body out of the sea.
Fan Yi brought her back to the cave. Si Tang was so drowsy that in her hazy state, she felt her soaked clothes being removed and her body wrapped in a dry blanket.
When Si Tang woke up, she was stunned by the unfamiliar surroundings before her.
Her eyes fell upon a sapphire candle holder on the stone wall, its surface shimmering like silver sand under the candlelight. Beneath her was a bed crafted from amber and pearls, with strings of coral and shells gently swaying on the bed curtains.
Si Tang sat up slightly and realized she was wearing nothing under the blanket, her face flushing with embarrassment. Her gaze swept around and landed on a neatly folded pink dress nearby.
She reached out, took it, and put it on. The fabric felt incredibly soft, distinctly different from what she was used to.
Once dressed, she slipped on the pearl-encrusted shoes. The dressing table, chairs, hot spring, and every piece of furniture in sight were adorned with an ancient European aesthetic opulent and dreamlike.
If not for the surrounding stone walls and layout reminding her, she might have thought she had traveled back in time to some European royal palace.
Si Tang followed a dimly lit passageway out of the cave until the space opened up before her, sunlight flooding her vision and with it, the figure of that man appeared in front of her.
A throne made of obsidian exuded an oppressive, chilling aura, surrounded by unknown flowers in full bloom. Fan Yi sat leisurely there, flipping through a glowing book. Even as he basked in the light with a relaxed demeanor, he radiated a dangerous intensity that made one’s heart race.
Hearing the noise, he lifted his gaze unhurriedly, seeming to study her for a few seconds.
“How are the injuries on your body?”
Si Tang heard his indifferent, calm tone and couldn’t tell if it was concern or not.
“Still, alright.” Si Tang pinched the edge of her skirt, her gaze sweeping around until she noticed only the swing was available to sit on.
So she walked over to the swing as naturally as possible and sat down.
However, this spot was extremely close to him almost face-to-face.
For a moment, neither spoke. Si Tang’s eyes darted away, unable to meet his cold, restrained expression for some reason.
Uncontrollably, scenes from the night flashed through her mind the scorching heat, tangled breaths, and his bewitching face.
An unspoken awkwardness lingered between them.
Fan Yi lowered his head and continued flipping through the book, but then suddenly spoke.
“Tonight ” He paused again, the page in his hand only half-turned, and looked up to meet her gaze directly.
Si Tang instinctively straightened her posture.
A faint smile tugged at Fan Yi’s lips as he slowly finished his sentence.
“I’ll need your help. friend.”
For some reason, Si Tang’s nerves tingled for a moment, and her breath quickened slightly. It felt as though she could hear herself answering under the intensity of his deep gaze.
“Alright.”
“Very obedient, my friend.” His smile deepened, seemingly pleased. “What’s your name?”
“My name is Si Tang.”
“Tang Tang.” His voice was low, almost intoxicating. “I’ve heard that in the human world, friends often call each other by nicknames.”
“That’s right.” Si Tang instinctively agreed.
“Then from now on, you’ll be my Tang Tang. and you can call me Fan Yi.” His tone was soft and deep, but the profound blue of his eyes made Si Tang feel, for a fleeting moment, as if she were being watched by a predator.
Still, this seemed like a good start and an opportunity.
Seizing the moment, Si Tang took off the necklace around her neck a leaf-shaped amber pendant, a keepsake from her mother that she had worn since childhood.
“This is for you.” Hesitating slightly, she handed the amber necklace to him.
Fan Yi glanced down at it, his expression somewhat indifferent.
“Oh?” Even if such an item were considered precious in the human world, it meant nothing in the eyes of a deity. Still, he accepted it. “Why give it to me?”
Summoning her courage, Si Tang looked up at him. “Between friends, it’s common to share and exchange meaningful gifts to show how important the other person is.”
Hearing this, Fan Yi couldn’t help but curl his lips into a smile, clearly pleased by her words.
“Then next time, I’ll bring you a gift too.” As he said this, he asked her, “What do you like?”
“I like butterflies. I want to go outside and see the world.”
Si Tang’s words were sincere. She might not run away, but she truly didn’t want to be confined to the cave any longer.
As she spoke, she cautiously observed his expression, afraid of angering him. After all, this fish’s temper wasn’t exactly gentle.
He seemed to ponder for a few seconds before nodding. “Once the mating season is over. I’ll take you to see.”
Hearing this, Si Tang thought to herself, just as I suspected he must have been driven by an unavoidable “mating season” to do those things to me.
“How long does your mating season last?” Si Tang bit her lip lightly, finding the question difficult to ask.
Fan Yi replied, “About five more days.”
“How often does this happen?”
“At least once a year,” Fan Yi answered nonchalantly.
Si Tang secretly breathed a sigh of relief in her heart just five more days to endure and she’d be through it!
Once his heat cycle was over, she would bring up leaving this place with him after some time had passed!
