- Chapter 14 - An Abnormal Mating Season
“Of course, it’s about striving to complete mission targets and advancing to world-level as soon as possible,” 8856’s voice began to fill with longing.
What it envied most were those Divine Envoys of the Heavenly Way who had now upgraded to cultivation worlds, possessing enough power to shapeshift into human form.
Currently, it was merely a product transformed from the Heavenly Way of an ordinary world, unable to even manifest a human form, and its name was nothing more than a world designation.
Fan Yi, on the other hand, came from a privileged background. As a second-generation deity meticulously created by the Creator God (Father God), he was born as the Sea God ruling over the oceans. The Father God bestowed upon him the power of the sea, and Fan You, the first-generation deity who governed the universe as the Chief God, was his elder brother. Being quite favored, he naturally couldn’t understand 8856’s struggles.
He waved his hand dismissively.
“Alright, you may leave.”
8856 withdrew tremblingly.
After leaving, it still felt as if it had narrowly escaped disaster. It even thought that Lord Fan Yi had become more approachable. Over the past three thousand years, this Sea God had been notorious throughout the realms, known for his capricious and malicious nature.
However, if 8856 had known what would happen in the future, it might not have been able to smile so easily.
After 8856 departed, Fan Yi’s brow remained furrowed.
He recalled the unusual sensations in his body that day symptoms characteristic of a Sea God’s mating season. Today’s loss of control was merely a prelude.
Fan Yi took out the Divine Tome and began searching through it, eventually finding the page on the Sea God’s mating season.
“Mating Season: Not all deities experience a mating season, but for Sea Gods, it can be triggered by various factors. The duration generally depends on the environment, typically lasting about a week. During this period, one may experience chaotic or even draining divine power, overall restlessness, revealing of true form, and an urgent need for water and mating. Initially, rationality remains intact, but only for a short while. From the third day onward, one may lose all sense of reason. Unmated Sea Gods are advised to stay in the deep sea, maintain control over their rationality, and may collect human romance novels to assist in alleviating urges.
Data indicates that most deities experience their first mating season at three thousand years of age. If mated, please treat your partner gently. Subsequent mating cycles are irregular, usually occurring once every 1-3 years.”
After reading these lines, Fan Yi felt increasingly agitated.
Just as he was about to toss the tome aside, his gaze caught a page in the table of contents that clearly dealt with the threads of love and the heavenly tribulation of love.
“Threads of Love: Setting aside the physiological needs of the mating season, deities are born without desires or wants, so the vast majority do not develop threads of love.
Theoretically, threads of love are the most direct evidence of a deity’s genuine affection. The Father God believed that deities should embody great love and not fall into personal attachments. Pairing among deities is solely for the purpose of reproducing divine offspring and inheriting divine authority. Thus, in ancient times, the Father God established the heavenly tribulation of love as punishment for deities who developed such feelings. When the threads of love mature and become complete, the heavenly tribulation will descend.”
He skimmed through it briefly without paying it much mind.
However. he looked curiously at the lower right corner of the page, where faint cracks had formed clearly marks left from the owner having flipped through it countless times with divine power.
Fan Yi felt a slight puzzlement as he glanced at it a few more times but didn’t dwell on it further.
He closed the book, shut his eyes, and began to meditate. Yet, for some reason, the scene from the hot spring kept flashing through his mind the girl’s soft, crimson lips and trembling lashes. He wondered, if he were to bite them, would he taste the sweetness of her soul and the scent of her blood?
In his ears echoed her gentle, probing question:
“Lord Fan Yi, have you ever had a friend?”
Tch, he was truly ill. It was all because of this damned mating season.
Agitated, Fan Yi made his way to the bedchamber and leaned against the bed inlaid with amber and pearls. The thought of the coming week filled him with irritation it meant losing control over his body and mind.
And losing control over his tail was an utterly humiliating thing for a god.
His thoughts drifted back to the mortal tales and related books mentioned earlier, which supposedly offered ways to ease such urges. FanYi didn’t understand, so he searched through his own library. To his surprise, after some rummaging, he actually found something.
“During those three thousand years I lost my memories, I actually collected such things?” FanYi clicked his tongue and flipped open the illustrated book with a hint of boredom.
The yellowed pages glowed faintly, revealing their contents to FanYi.
It was a collection of spring palace paintings from the mortal realm. According to the notes, they originated from a world in ancient history, designated as No. 8157.
On the pages were depicted entwined bodies, flushed skin, dazed eyes, and various positions…
The human brushstrokes were so explicit, yet so unfamiliar.
After a few seconds, his gaze remained puzzled. But he gradually began to grasp the concept of desire.
Uncontrollably, his mind drifted back to the scene in the hot spring, and he suddenly felt a parched dryness in his throat.
He was truly famished. Even though he had no goddess as a mate, how could he entertain such absurd fantasies about a human? What difference was there between this and being a beast?
This dreadful mating season, FanYi thought.
Night lay heavy as still water.
The dome of Atlantis trembled deep beneath the sea, the curtains woven from glowing jellyfish swaying incessantly with the undulating currents.
Fan Yi’s tail fin slapped heavily against the water. A hoarse, altered tone rumbled in his throat, and in the dark currents, eerie blue phosphorescent flames ignited, reflecting in his deep, crimson-tinged eyes.
The scent of desire, sweet and pungent, permeated the surroundings.
His trident, resting against a jade stand, sensed the chaotic divine energy emanating from its master, Lord Fan Yi. Unsure whether to stay or slip away quietly, it wavered.
FanYi endured wave after wave of unfamiliar passion coursing through his body. Unable to bear it any longer, he flipped open the spring palace paintings he had viewed the day before. Just as he was about to act, a sliver of remaining rationality made him cast a cold glare at the trident nearby.
“Get lost!”
The trident, only too glad to oblige, vanished with a whoosh.
FanYi stared at the spring palace paintings before him and, without realizing it, began to imagine the male and female figures as himself and that human. A strange excitement surged through him.
He was going mad.
Truly mad.
The last shreds of his reason still scorned him, but his body, defying that reason, grew increasingly aroused.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, his dazed, phosphorescent blue eyes sharpened. He immediately used his divine power to probe and discovered that the island on the surface bore no trace of his barrier.
In the chaos of his earlier arousal, his divine power had flickered in and out, and the barrier had vanished without his notice.
His expression instantly turned as cold as an ice cavern. Instinctively, he summoned his trident and prepared to ascend to investigate.
