After Swapping Identities With My Archenemy - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: The Ghost Bride is Me
Shen Wensi grabbed the hand that was clutching her. “It’s just a weasel. What’s the big deal?”
Jiang Huaiyi didn’t listen. She clung to Shen Wensi for dear life.
Now, she was not only afraid of ghosts but also these spirit creatures.
Shen Wensi tried to pry her off a few times, but seeing that she couldn’t move her, she reluctantly carried her on her back.
The half-human, half-weasel on the ground wanted to lunge at Jiang Huaiyi.
But ever since it revealed its true form, its body had shrunk by a size, and it was now only half as tall as Shen Wensi.
Its patchwork robe hung loosely on its body, looking quite comical.
It was indeed not from the Xuanmen lineage, but it was still speaking human language: “Fellow Daoist, get down quickly and burn this memorial.”
Jiang Huaiyi: “Who’s your fellow Daoist? You’re a weasel, I’m a person. We are not the same path, so we don’t conspire together.”
Her courage was small, but her momentum never lost. The weasel saw that being soft didn’t work and jumped forward.
Shen Wensi was not in a good mood to begin with. With a cold face, she kicked the weasel in the face.
Its body flew straight out like a kite with a broken string.
Weasels are the most vengeful, and this one had already become a spirit. Jiang Huaiyi originally thought it would be difficult to deal with, but now it seemed it was no match for Shen Wensi at all.
Logically, a cultivation level like this should be quite powerful.
Now it was lying on the ground, motionless. Jiang Huaiyi looked at it a few times and found that it was indeed not moving, so she finally got off her.
“How is a weasel so weak?”
Shen Wensi’s mouth twitched. That kick of hers would either kill or cripple it. Its power was not what she imagined.
The weasel was lying on the ground, and it was indeed not breathing.
The Daoist robe on its body was genuine. She wondered where it stole it from. This could be considered a small side branch’s heirloom.
The patches on it were of different shapes. It was clear that they were given by various families who had been greatly indebted to this Daoist priest, which was why they would make such clothes. The person who owned this robe had accumulated immeasurable merit.
Jiang Huaiyi peeled the Daoist robe off the weasel’s body, carefully folded it, and put it away.
The weasel’s body was soft and limp, so it seemed to be really dead. Jiang Huaiyi clicked her tongue and carefully placed the corpse on the ground.
The commotion on their side was not too loud. The gongs and drums outside were so loud that no one noticed.
Jiang Huaiyi moved closer to Shen Wensi and asked: “Can we leave now? Is this weasel the end of the mission?”
Shen Wensi shook her head, pulled out a corner of the fine silk cloth from her pocket, and motioned for her to see what was written on it.
Jiang Huaiyi looked at the words on it. The word “noon” had disappeared, leaving only “night.” She was immediately dejected.
It seemed that her efforts were in vain. This weasel was completely useless.
The paper money that was blown into the fire basin was still burning. Jiang Huaiyi turned her back again. The smell in the room was truly unpleasant.
The smell of Miss Ge’s corpse had started to spread. It was probably because she had just died recently, which was why Master Ge was in such a hurry to marry her off.
Otherwise, if she waited a few days and the body smelled too bad, it wouldn’t be good to keep it.
Since the memorial wouldn’t burn, it seemed that Miss Ge was unwilling in her heart.
Jiang Huaiyi sighed and fanned the air in front of her nose, feeling that the smell in the room was too terrible.
She turned to call Shen Wensi out and caught a glimpse of the weasel, which had been at the wall, was gone.
She was stunned. “Where did the weasel go…?”
Jiang Huaiyi’s words stopped abruptly. After she completely turned around, she found that Shen Wensi, who had been standing behind her, was also gone.
The entire hall was empty, with only two coffins and her, a living person.
Both Shen Wensi and the weasel were gone. Jiang Huaiyi frantically took out her phone, wanting to call Shen Wensi, but found that she hadn’t even asked for her contact information.
Jiang Huaiyi pursed her lips. A feeling of grievance arose. Shen Wensi had told her not to leave, and she listened, but then the other person left herself.
She slowly retreated, thinking she would just leave like this. No matter where Shen Wensi went, she would wait for her outside. Even if she had to sleep in a tree tonight, she didn’t want to be in the Ge family’s residence anymore.
As soon as Jiang Huaiyi took a step, she smelled a strange fragrance. She quickly covered her nose, but it was too late. A dizzying sensation immediately came over her.
She only felt the world spin. The moment she fell, the lanterns above her head layered like clouds and spun.
She saw a shifty-eyed weasel standing next to her, standing on its hind legs, looking down at her from above. Its eyes were red, and there was a trace of blood on its mouth. It bared its large teeth as if it were smiling at her.
Jiang Huaiyi tried to struggle to get up, but her consciousness became blurry, and she fainted.
After closing her eyes, that nauseous and uncomfortable feeling surged up again.
When she woke up again, she found herself in a dark place. Her head felt like it had been hit hard with a stick. It felt like it was about to explode, with throbbing pain.
Her whole body was soft and weak. After struggling for a long time, only her fingers could move.
Jiang Huaiyi didn’t know where she was. She had opened her eyes for a long time but hadn’t seen a single ray of light.
Her arm felt like it had been numbed. It took her a long time to move it even a little.
Jiang Huaiyi felt that the place she was in was very small and cramped. Her fingertips explored her surroundings. The rough wooden feeling came from her hand. Soon, she touched the wooden wall.
She rubbed her hands with effort. The wall on her right was very close. On her left, she touched something cold.
A soft laugh came from her ear, and a hoarse, unpleasant voice sounded: “You like me too, don’t you?”
Jiang Huaiyi flinched and pulled back her hand. She asked in a trembling voice: “Who? Who’s talking?”
“You just burned paper money for me, and you’ve already forgotten. How unfaithful.”
She smelled that unpleasant sour stench again, like fresh pork bought in the summer and left on the counter, forgotten to be put in the refrigerator.
Then, when she remembered it on the third day, she opened it and smelled that sour stench that immediately paralyzed her nasal cavity.
A huff of breath came from her ear. The rotten and spoiled smell became even more apparent.
She thought she knew where she was. The person lying next to her was Miss Ge, who had been dead for an unknown amount of time. She should be in her coffin now.
Her hand was held by a cold hand. The hand was completely different from Shen Wensi’s. It was bone-chillingly cold and had no temperature at all. This was the hand of a dead person. Jiang Huaiyi immediately felt her strength return.
She sat up with a jolt, and her head seemed to have hit something. The object was bounced back and hit the side of the coffin with a thud.
Jiang Huaiyi heard the sound of beads and ornaments. She suddenly generated a burst of strength, raised her hand, and tried to push the lid of the coffin.
She shouted: “Shen Wensi, help!”
But her arm was so weak that the coffin lid above her didn’t move at all.
She felt her waist being tightly held by a pair of hands. That smell was almost on her body.
“I don’t like that man. I like you, young master. Marry me. Didn’t you burn paper money for me?”
Jiang Huaiyi’s face was pale with fear. Her two hands pushed the coffin lid with more effort.
Her heart, which had just been calm, began to pound.
Her vision was already blurred with tears. In her extreme fear, a surge of anger rose in her heart: “His father, Shen Wensi, also burned paper money for you! Why don’t you go find her? You say you like me, and you want me to be with you. You yourself know that a forced melon is not sweet and you refuse the engagement memorial your father gave you. Why should I come down and be with you!”
Miss Ge’s voice was ethereal and fleeting. She wasn’t angry at her refusal. She just let out a light laugh: “You’re about to die, so it’s easier for you to come down. Miss Jiang, will you stay and keep me company?”
Jiang Huaiyi’s vision suddenly became bright. She saw the woman who was holding her waist.
Under the phoenix coronet and hairpins was a beautiful face. Her skin was very white, like the smooth and delicate magnolia of early spring. Her red lips didn’t look out of place on her face at all. The large red wedding dress made her look radiant, and her skin was as white as snow.
She was completely different from the terrifying image she had in her mind, but Jiang Huaiyi’s movements didn’t stop.
The coffin lid above her made a slight cracking sound. The light from outside came in, and a pair of hands held her shoulders, dragging her out of the coffin.
Just as Jiang Huaiyi was about to struggle, she heard a familiar voice: “Don’t move, it’s me.”
She turned her head and met Shen Wensi’s cold face. She immediately became well-behaved.
As soon as she stood up straight, she felt a pulling force on her ankle. She looked down and saw that the beautiful and charming Miss Ge had turned into a moving corpse.
Her face was gray and blue, and large patches of her skin were covered with purple-red and gray-green corpse spots.
Her once lively eyes were now murky and lifeless.
Jiang Huaiyi grabbed Shen Wensi’s collar and let out a series of wails.
Shen Wensi raised her long leg into the coffin and kicked Miss Ge’s face, completely dislocating her head. Her hand was finally released.
Jiang Huaiyi immediately jumped out of the coffin. If she hadn’t been held back, she would have rushed out of the Ge family’s gate by now.
It was already dark outside. They were in the center of the main hall.
Because of her loud screams, she found that the guests outside, who were originally normal, were now all lifeless, their faces expressionless, and they were looking at her.
The entire hall was silent. The guests were lifeless, and they didn’t even have the ups and downs of breathing.
They were just like the people who were in Miss Ge’s funeral procession last night. The people eating outside were all paper figures.
Rather than paper figures, they were some unknown wandering spirits who had possessed them.
When those ghosts saw her, it was as if they smelled something alive. They all stood up.
Shen Wensi pointed at her Baihui acupuncture point, covered her mouth, and the two of them stepped into the other coffin. She quickly closed the lid: “If you want to attract all of them, keep screaming.”
This coffin was very clean. After sitting for a while, Jiang Huaiyi finally calmed down.
She really didn’t expect that in her lifetime, a coward like her would get to see so many ghosts.
She asked in a choked whisper, afraid of attracting the things outside: “Why did you disappear just now? Do you know how scared I was when I woke up and found myself in Miss Ge’s coffin?”
Shen Wensi let out a light laugh: “You’re such a coward. How did you get through the Xuanmen’s courage test ground, the Ten-Mile Graveyard?”
Jiang Huaiyi decided to give up. She muttered in a low voice: “Who says a Daoist can’t be afraid of ghosts? When I went to the Ten-Mile Graveyard for seven days and seven nights when I was a child, by the time my shishu found me, I had already become an idiot.”
Shen Wensi: ?
“An idiot? You don’t seem like an idiot. At least you know to run when you see a ghost.”
Jiang Huaiyi suddenly felt a little embarrassed: “I mean, I was scared silly. It’s a common term for losing your soul.”
Shen Wensi: ???
