Chapter 49.2: This Drove Her Insane With Jealousy.
Zhu Yunqi had no other choice but to ask Shi Li how the little plant was growing.
Shi Li immediately sent over a few new photos she had taken that morning. The plant was lush and green, and the flower bud of the white crystal chrysanthemum had grown a little larger.
Zhu Yunqi had a gut feeling that Shi Li was avoiding her.
But she couldn’t figure out why Shi Li would suddenly avoid her. And Shi Li had only rejected her two invitations for dinner, which wasn’t considered “deliberately avoiding her.”
Zhu Yunqi thought about it again and again and decided that it was unlikely that Shi Li was deliberately avoiding her. If she was deliberately avoiding her, there could only be one reason: her actions the night before last had still scared Shi Li.
Even though Shi Li said it was okay, she still cared about it deep down. Besides that, Zhu Yunqi couldn’t think of any other possibilities for the time being.
She looked out the car window toward the twenty-third floor, trying to catch a glimpse of Shi Li’s busy figure. Unfortunately, the glass on the exterior wall of the building was one-way, and no matter how good Zhu Yunqi’s eyesight was, she couldn’t break through the physical limitations.
At the same time. Design department on the twenty-third floor.
Shi Li stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the luxurious and low-key car downstairs. The optical computer screen was quietly glowing on her face. Zhu Yunqi’s car was too easy to recognize. It was very similar to Zhu Yunqi’s own aura.
She waited by the window for a while, and Zhu Yunqi’s car was still downstairs. The chat interface on her optical computer was still on the pictures of the little plant she had sent.
She didn’t tell Zhu Yunqi that when she woke up this morning, the tips of a few of the little plants had turned yellow. She had changed the angle of the little dog flower pot and took the pictures with the yellowing plants hidden in the back.
For some inexplicable reason, the tips of the plants suddenly turned yellow. She went online to consult with relevant botanists. Some said it was a normal phenomenon, that the plant was eliminating the weak individuals in its community. Others said that this was not a suitable way to grow the plant and that the entire pot would soon turn yellow. And some told her to go to a testing center to check if it had been infected with a blight fungus.
Shi Li was in a hurry to get to work, so she had no choice but to put the plant on the windowsill with enough sunlight to get some sun.
Her workload was heavy today. Shi Li looked at Zhu Yunqi’s car for a while, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. But Zhu Yunqi never got out of the car. She stared at the car window, but her vision was limited. She couldn’t see the person behind the car window, so she naturally didn’t see that Zhu Yunqi was looking up in her direction.
She couldn’t just stand there daydreaming. There were a pile of tasks waiting for her to handle. Just as she turned around, Lin Xiaonan pushed off the edge of her desk with her feet, and her butt slid over with her chair. Her eyes were filled with concern. “Xiao Shi, did you not sleep well last night? Your eyes are so red. Do you want some eye drops?”
She tossed Shi Li a small bottle of eye drops.
Shi Li caught it in midair and said gratefully, “Thank you, Sister Xiaonan.”
Lin Xiaonan waved her hand, indicating it was no problem.
“I just told Xiao Tang yesterday that you were doing well, and today you look unhappy. The corners of your mouth are turned down like they have a lead weight on them. Did you and your girlfriend have a fight?”
Shi Li lowered her eyes and nodded.
Even though yesterday’s intensity with Wen Yue was more than just a simple argument.
Lin Xiaonan told her to look on the bright side. “It’s normal for couples to fight. Besides, you two have been together for so long. It’s normal to have some friction. But if you really found a flaw in them that you can’t accept through a fight, then that’s a good thing. You can get out in time. It’s better than finding out after you’re married.”
“And if all else fails, there are plenty of good women in the world. With your conditions, the people who want to date you could line up all the way to the Mid-Star System.”
Shi Li let out a chuckle. “Sister Xiaonan, all the people in the Federation combined wouldn’t be able to line up to the Mid-Star System.”
“That’s obviously a hyperbole.” Lin Xiaonan said seriously. “I’m just giving you some advice. If you’re really feeling uncomfortable, you can talk to your good friend Xiao Tang or me. Talking about it will help me analyze it for you.”
“It’s okay, Sister Xiaonan. I’ll be able to digest it myself in a bit.”
Shi Li tilted her head back and put a few drops of eye drops in her eyes. Her eyes, which had been up all night, were sore. After using the eye drops, they finally felt a little better. She blinked, squeezing out the excess eye drops. The light pink eye drops flowed down the side of her cheeks like pink tears.
…
Zhu Yunqi had tried to meet with Shi Li for several days, but she was rejected in various ways.
Due to the engagement issue, Shen Qinghe and Zhu Shengxi had a huge fight. Shen Qinghe was insistent that Zhu Yunqi and Wen Yue get married, but the final decision was not in her hands. Shen Qinghe couldn’t completely blow up the alliance with Zhu Shengxi, so in a fit of anger, she left Z3291 first.
The headquarters of Zhu Holdings Group was on another planet in the Upper Star Domain, with the number S2745. The family came to live in Z3291 for nearly two months entirely for the engagement. Now that the engagement was clearly going to be off, there was no need to stay any longer. After Shen Qinghe left, Zhu Shengxi also left Z3291.
Zhu Jingshan did not return immediately and instead brought her wife and children over.
Zhu Yunqi was not familiar with her sister’s wife, but she loved Zhu Jingshan’s two children. The two children were twins. They had just passed their fourth birthday. They wore matching princess dresses, their faces were as delicate as sculpted jade, and their voices were sweet and adorable.
Zhu Yunqi hadn’t seen them in two years. The two children had also forgotten who Zhu Yunqi was. After Zhu Jingshan told them that this was their aunt, the two little pink balls happily ran up to her, each hugging one of Zhu Yunqi’s legs and chirping “Auntie.”
Zhu Jingshan could tell that Zhu Yunqi had something on her mind. She didn’t say it directly but instead told her to take the two children out to play and get some fresh air.
The children hugged Zhu Yunqi’s legs. “Auntie, Auntie, take us out to play.”
They weren’t afraid of their stone-faced aunt at all. Their mother had already told them on the way here that their aunt’s style was cool and charming, and the secret to that style was not smiling, which didn’t affect how much their aunt liked them. She also secretly gave them a task: whoever could make their aunt smile would get a reward. One smile could get them out of one day’s worth of homework.
Without her knowledge, Zhu Yunqi had become a great savior in the eyes of the two children who were tormented by homework.
Zhu Yunqi took their hands.
“Okay. Where do you want to go?”
The older twin answered very “schemingly”: “To a place that will make Auntie happy!”
The younger twin nodded repeatedly. “The place Auntie likes is the place we like.”
Zhu Yunqi said, “Then how about I take you to the amusement park? Auntie loves the amusement park.”
The two little pink balls were all for it.
Zhu Yunqi took them to the biggest amusement park in Z3291. She wasn’t too interested in the rides herself. She was mainly there to accompany the two children. After playing on a few rides, Zhu Yunqi bought two ice creams and gave them to the twins. The children suddenly remembered their task of making their aunt smile and handed their ice creams to Zhu Yunqi’s mouth, insisting that she eat first.
Zhu Yunqi didn’t know the twins’ little scheme. She didn’t want the children to eat something she had eaten, so she had to buy another ice cream.
The three of them, one adult and two children, sat on a bench in the amusement park, obediently licking their ice cream.
The ice cream was especially sweet. It was so sweet that Zhu Yunqi felt a little sick of it. Her mind uncontrollably thought that Shi Li would probably like this flavor. Shi Li loved sweet things.
The first time they met at the coffee shop, Shi Li ordered an extra sweet pistachio latte.
Zhu Yunqi took a few pictures of the twins, hesitating whether to send them to Shi Li.
For the past few days, Shi Li not only tactfully rejected Zhu Yunqi with various excuses, but their conversations on the optical computer also became fewer. Zhu Yunqi looked back at their chat history and realized that most of their conversations were related to Wen Yue. Now that she had told Shi Li not to send her anything related to Wen Yue, it was as if they suddenly had nothing to talk about and didn’t know how to continue.
Actually, the first time Shi Li rejected Zhu Yunqi, Zhu Yunqi had already sensed that something was wrong. But she was unwilling to think about it in detail. She pretended that she hadn’t noticed. It was as if by doing so, she could pretend that Shi Li wasn’t avoiding her.
But today, she had to admit the truth: Shi Li was avoiding her.
She had three days left before she had to go back to the Black Star Belt. For the first time, Zhu Yunqi didn’t want to go back that badly.
The optical computer was still on the chat interface between her and Shi Li. Zhu Yunqi had selected the twins’ photos, but she was hesitant to send them.
She was such a coward.
At that moment, the older twin pointed at a blue-haired woman not far away. “Auntie, that big sister’s hair is so pretty.”
Coincidentally, the blue-haired woman turned around and also saw Zhu Yunqi with the children.
It was Hai Yao and Tang Yingchi.
The two of them gave up their spot in line for the roller coaster and came over happily. Hai Yao covered her mouth exaggeratedly and said, “Wow, Captain Zhu, I haven’t seen you in a few days and you’re already a mom.”
Zhu Yunqi said helplessly, “They’re my sister’s children.”
The older twin said in a childish voice, “Big sister, your hair is so pretty. It’s like a wave.”
Hai Yao was so happy to be complimented. She chuckled. Halfway through her laugh, she suddenly realized the seniority was wrong.
“No, you can’t call me big sister. I’m an aunt.”
She couldn’t be a generation younger than Zhu Yunqi.
Tang Yingchi squatted down and touched the children’s faces. Her voice involuntarily became higher. “You two are so cute, little babies.”
Then she smacked her head. “Speaking of babies, oh yeah, my Li Bao is also at the amusement park. I’ll get her to come over and take a look. When I have kids in the future, I’ll have them be as cute as these two. I want to be a godmother.”
Zhu Yunqi involuntarily became nervous. “Shi Li is here too?”
“Yeah. She said she’s here for work. Wait a sec. I’ll tell her to hurry over.”
With that, Tang Yingchi went to call Shi Li. Not long after, she came back and said, “She said she’ll be here right away.”
Zhu Yunqi ate the rest of her ice cream in one go. The coldness made her throat hurt for a second.
Then she took out a tissue and carefully wiped off any cream that might have been on her lips. She also redid her hair.
She felt like she looked terrible right now.
The older twin was currently buttering up Hai Yao about her hair. The younger twin seized the opportunity and sincerely complimented her own aunt. “Auntie, you’re prettier. You’re the prettiest woman in the entire Federation besides Mom.”
Zhu Yunqi asked insecurely, “Do I look good now?”
The younger twin nodded heavily. She silently chanted in her mind: Auntie, please smile, Auntie, please smile, Auntie, please smile.
Maybe her sincerity moved heaven. The next second, the younger twin saw the corners of her iceberg aunt’s lips turn up. Although her eyes were still melancholic, it could barely be considered a smile.
The younger twin secretly made a note. Then she followed her aunt’s gaze and saw a gentle-looking aunt walking toward them not far away.
The closer the aunt got, the more obvious her aunt’s smile became. But when the aunt stopped in front of them, her aunt’s smile immediately fell.
So was her aunt happy or sad? The younger twin pondered this question with a troubled expression. The adult world was so complicated. She couldn’t figure it out, so she just gave up and went back to focusing on licking her ice cream.
