- Chapter 25 - Bullied Again
But she’s very good at acting spoiled, and her backing is very strong
The door slowly opened.
There was no one behind the door.
Was it the wind? Or was the door broken? Ji Songshu’s mind was a mess. The moment the door opened, a secret hope had actually been born within her—hoping that Shang Keyu would appear like a savior, just like last time, to rescue her from Pei Jiyue’s hands.
When did I become someone who needs saving so much? Ji Songshu was startled. She grit her teeth and flipped Pei Jiyue off of her.
The room was in chaos, filled with the sounds of physical blows. Torn strands of hair and scraps of clothing lay on the floor. The two people locked in combat were pressing and struggling against each other, having no time to notice anything else.
Therefore, the fellow outside the door entered of its own accord.
This time, it was Pei Jiyue who was pinned to the ground. Just as Ji Songshu’s hand was about to strike, she saw Pei Jiyue’s expression change. Her eyes widened as if she had seen a ghost.
Ji Songshu looked back in surprise. From her low vantage point, she could see a large mass of fur rushing in.
It was the one-eyed Alaskan Malamute, Alexievich!
The big dog pounced like lightning, baring its teeth and biting at Pei Jiyue. Ji Songshu nimbly jumped away from Pei Jiyue, giving up the battlefield to the valiant and bellicose dog.
Pei Jiyue lay flat on the ground, let out a scream, and cursed while frantically pushing the dog away. She jumped up quickly, but the big dog pursued her relentlessly, chasing her until she was scurrying all over the room.
Ji Songshu burst into laughter from the sidelines. She laughed until her waist bent, laughing until she wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes with her hands.
As if to please her, the big dog ran even faster, accelerating to catch up with Pei Jiyue. It bared its fangs and bit down on her arm. Pei Jiyue let out a howl of pain. Seeing the open door, she fled in panic, running straight out the door.
Watching all this, Ji Songshu leaned against the dining table and leisurely made herself a cup of lemon water.
She had checked just now; Pei Jiyue’s phone call hadn’t actually gone through. Shang Keyu hadn’t heard a thing.
She exhaled a long breath.
It wasn’t until the big dog turned back and looked at her innocently that she slowly remembered a crucial question:
“Qiqi, have you had your rabies vaccine?”
The big dog nodded and leaned in to rub against her calf. For someone as afraid of dogs as Ji Songshu, there was actually a moment where she wanted to pat the dog’s head.
But her body reacted first, catapulting her ten meters away.
She decided to reward this brave and righteous dog.
“Good dog, good baby, Alexievich, the best dog in the whole world. Stay right there and don’t move, okay? Wait for me to cut some meat for you.”
Ji Songshu went into the kitchen, took out a piece of raw meat, and sliced it. She searched online and read that Alaskans shouldn’t eat raw meat, so she boiled the meat in water.
The scent of meat wafted out of the kitchen. The Alaskan’s remaining blue eye lit up, but before it could bolt over, Ji Songshu made an emergency “stop” gesture. She then squatted down and slid the plate over like a curling stone.
The plate stopped precisely in front of the Alaskan.
In the empty living room, the Alaskan was at one end, and Ji Songshu was at the other.
She cautiously maintained a distance of ten paces, watching the dog eat with its head down from afar. She asked, “How did you end up here?”
After saying it, she felt her mind was a bit loopy. Only Snow White or people with superpowers can understand animals talking—what was she doing?
However, Alexievich was Shang Keyu’s dog; it was normal for it to have some special abilities, like a dog’s nose inherited from the same lineage.
Thinking this, Ji Songshu took out her phone, snapped a photo of the big dog feasting, and sent it to Shang Keyu, telling her that her dog had run over to her place.
Not two minutes after she sent it, a noise came from outside the door.
Ji Songshu was startled, thinking Shang Keyu really did have superpowers and moved like lightning.
The next second, she was stunned by the crowd of people who entered.
At the lead was Pei Jiyue, standing tall and arrogant at the front with her arms crossed. Behind her followed a large group of people in black uniforms and black hats, wielding nets and catch poles.
It was the dog-catching team and the property management.
Pei Jiyue pointed a finger at the Alaskan and shouted loudly, “This stray dog rushed into my house and bit me! You guys hurry up and kill it!”
The people behind her quickly fanned out and lunged forward aggressively, using a catch pole to pin the Alaskan’s neck and press it to the ground. The Alaskan barked loudly, struggling desperately, dog hair flying everywhere.
“Don’t touch it!” Ji Songshu rushed forward, blocking the dog. “It’s not a stray dog. I am its owner.”
“Do you have the dog’s registration certificate?”
“I do, but I don’t have it on me.”
Pei Jiyue rolled her eyes and immediately had a wicked idea. She pointed at Ji Songshu and said:
“This person is trespassing. She suddenly broke into my house and even brought such a large dog to attack me. Property management, help me kick her out.”
Several security guards in the team looked very familiar. Ji Songshu greeted them every morning when she went out.
At this moment, they hesitated and did not move.
“I am the homeowner here. Do you listen to the owner or to someone else?” Pei Jiyue threatened.
No one responded for a long time.
She became exasperated and grabbed a broom from the kitchen. “I’m going to complain about your property management! If you won’t kick her out, I’ll do it myself!”
Ji Songshu and Qiqi—one person and one dog—were swept out the door.
Coming out with her was Ji Songshu’s luggage. Pei Jiyue truly intended to kick her out for good, throwing the things from the maid’s room out all at once.
Ji Songshu saw her clothes and plush dolls crumpled and thrown on the ground. She could only bite her lower lip, enduring it as she packed them up. Without a suitcase, she had to pack everything into plastic bags printed with a supermarket logo.
She had lived here for over a year, yet she didn’t have many things. A single trash-bag-sized plastic bag held everything.
The sky outside the residential building was gloomy, and the scent of damp earth hung in the air. A heavy rain was coming.
Her thin pajamas did not block the wind. Carrying the bag of luggage and covered in bruises, Ji Songshu rubbed her arms, not knowing where to go.
The first person to come to her mind was Ye Qingyu, but unfortunately, Qingqing was abroad on vacation. She couldn’t very well run to someone’s house to stay while the owner wasn’t there.
That left only one choice.
She searched for budget hostels on the map. Before finding a suitable rental, she could only stay in a hostel for a while.
While she was buried in her search, the Alaskan suddenly nudged her pant leg. Ji Songshu looked down and locked eyes with the big dog. The dog lowered its head, signaling for her to follow it.
The rain fell in slanted threads. Ji Songshu flipped up her hood and put it on. The plastic bag made a rustling sound at her side.
She walked a long way. The edges of her shoes were covered in mud, and her legs began to feel weak. They were almost out of the city, yet the big dog had not stopped.
A short while later, a familiar villa appeared before her eyes. The fragrance of flowers at the gate was rich, and large clusters of blossoms looked delicate and dripping in the rain, propping up a bright corner in the gloom.
The dog knew to go home when bullied, but Ji Songshu had nowhere to go.
She stood dazed outside the gate of Shang Keyu’s house, looking up at a second-story window. It was the room she had briefly stayed in, glowing with a warm yellow light, appearing hazy and distant in the rainy scenery.
Who lived there now? Did Shang Keyu have guests today?
Ji Songshu felt the cold raindrops falling on her body and shivered. Qiqi had been safely delivered home, so she turned around, intending to leave.
Seeing that she was about to go, the Alaskan raised its head and let out a long, wolf-like howl. Ji Songshu was startled. Not daring to cover its mouth, she stomped her feet and hissed urgently, “Don’t bark so loud, you’ll disturb the neighbors!”
The big dog tilted its head, looking at her with its round eye. Suddenly, it flopped down into a puddle and began rolling around passionately.
Muddy water splashed everywhere, splattering all over Ji Songshu. She angrily wiped the mud off her face and yelled at the Alaskan, “Bad dog! What are you doing!”
“Miss Pei.” A gentle voice came from behind.
Ji Songshu looked toward the source of the voice. Carlotta was standing at the entrance holding a black umbrella, and the iron gate was slowly opening.
“Miss Pei, please come in and change your clothes.”
Ji Songshu shook her head. “Shang Keyu probably has guests. I won’t disturb her.”
Moreover, she didn’t know how to explain things to Shang Keyu. Was she supposed to tell her that her fake fiancée had been kicked out of the house by the real fiancée?
So, it was better not to meet.
As if seeing through her thoughts, Carlotta said, “The Eldest Miss is away on a business trip; she isn’t at home.”
“If the owner isn’t home, it wouldn’t be right for me to go in.”
“Miss Pei,” Carlotta took Ji Songshu’s hand and said solemnly, “By wearing this ring, you are a master of this house.”
Ji Songshu glanced at the sapphire glittering on her middle finger. “Is this ring that important?”
“The sapphire on the ring you are wearing was a gift for the Eldest Miss’s eighteenth birthday. It is a 5.03-carat unheated Kashmir sapphire with an auction price of 1,255,000 Swiss Francs.”
Ji Songshu silently converted that into RMB and immediately sucked in a breath of cold air.
Heavens! She was actually wearing a whole building on her hand. Fortunately, she didn’t wear it often except when seeing Shang Keyu; otherwise, she’d be a mobile target. Thank goodness for good public security!
“Furthermore, if the Eldest Miss knew you had come, she would absolutely have you stay.”
Ji Songshu was persuaded—half because of Carlotta’s words, and half because the rain was getting heavier. Her wet clothes mixed with mud were clinging to her skin, a discomfort comparable to being licked by eighty dogs with wet tongues simultaneously.
She followed Carlotta into the house, not forgetting to glare at the Alaskan before entering. Such an evil dog! A neighbor-disturbing bad dog!
“The Eldest Miss bought all the houses in this entire villa area, so there is no need to worry,” Carlotta kindly explained. “Next door is Alexievich’s house.”
“He lives alone in a house?!” Ji Songshu’s pupils shook.
The Alaskan proudly shook the water off its body, wagged its tail, and turned into the small neighboring villa. It held its head high, stepping onto its own dedicated small carpet, advancing like an emperor. Servants emerged from the open door to dry it off and groom it.
Ji Songshu was dumbstruck.
Soon, she received the same treatment as the Alaskan.
She pinned up her hair and soaked comfortably in the large bathtub of the spacious bathroom. Rose petals and a yellow rubber duck with a red beak and black eyes floated on the water’s surface.
The warm water allowed her to relax completely. She leaned against the tub as if she were boneless, slowly thinking:
Alexievich is Shang Keyu’s dog. What exactly am I to Shang Keyu?
She squeezed the little duck, which made a “ji” sound, leaving a trail of bubbles on the water.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when Ji Songshu heard Carlotta’s somewhat anxious voice outside the door, asking if she needed help or if she had fainted or been injured in the bathroom. Only then did she realize she had soaked for too long. When she lifted her hands, the skin on her fingertips had become wrinkled.
Having changed into pajamas, she returned to the guest bedroom. As soon as she entered the room, she noticed that it was very different from the last time she had stayed.
For example, a doorplate with a moon painted on it had been added to the door. Correspondingly, the doorplate on the master bedroom was a musical note.
Furthermore, the walk-in closet in the guest room had originally been empty, but now many cute clothes were hanging there. There was even the long maid’s dress she had worn before, and that maid outfit from which she had popped a button at the maid cafe…
She had clearly returned that to the shop. How could it be here?
Ji Songshu sprawled on the bed, her thoughts wandering.
Could it be that Shang Keyu is actually a closet ‘mensao’? On the surface, she’s majestic and cold, but deep down she’s a ‘2D’ fan who wants to try the ‘moe’ girl style? But she’s too embarrassed to put them in her own room, so she dumped them in the guest room?
She lay on her back looking at the high, distant ceiling, stretching out her hand as her mind drifted.
From this room, she thought of the maid’s room she lived in at Pei Jiyue’s house. To be honest, she didn’t miss that place at all. If she was kicked out, she was kicked out; there would always be a place for her in the world. She was just a little worried about Pei Jiyue’s state.
Of course, she wasn’t worried about Pei Jiyue’s mental health or state of mind. What she feared was that Pei Jiyue might get agitated and, like a sieve, seek out Shang Keyu to spill everything.
That person was used to being willful and didn’t care at all about her parents’ words or the family business. She really might do something that harmed others without benefiting herself. What should she do…
A knock at the door interrupted her train of thought.
“Miss Pei, may I come in?” It was Carlotta’s voice.
Ji Songshu hurriedly sat up on the bed and straightened her collar. “Please come in.”
The door opened. Carlotta walked in first, followed by a sneakily probing dog head.
Alexievich had become a clean dog again. It wagged its tail and paced elegantly back and forth in front of Ji Songshu, as if showing off its clean, fluffy fur.
Carlotta said, “The Eldest Miss just called you, but the calls were all hung up by you, so she asked me to come take a look.”
“Eh? When did she call? I didn’t see it.”
Ji Songshu crawled around on the bed, frantically flipping over blankets and pillows to find her phone. After searching for a while, she finally found it. It was actually deviously hidden in the gap between the nightstand and the bed.
Opening it, she saw that Shang Keyu had made over a dozen consecutive calls, all of which had been hung up.
What was so urgent that it was worth Shang Keyu calling ten times to ask?
Could it be that Pei Jiyue had already reported everything to Shang Keyu? Ji Songshu’s heart leaped in fear.
Facing the phone Carlotta handed over, which already had a connected call with Shang Keyu, she guiltily took it, her voice forced into a calm tone.
“Hello…”
“Explain yourself.”
Explain what? Such a cold tone further confirmed the suspicions in Ji Songshu’s heart. She clutched the bedsheets, her heart in her throat.
The Alaskan seemed to notice her abnormality and nudged her leg.
She took a deep breath, calmed down a bit, and had an idea. She didn’t answer directly but deliberately used a timid, weak tone to ask: “I’m in your house right now. Are you going to kick me out?”
“If you hang up on me ten times in a row again, I really will kick you out.”
“Just that?” Ji Songshu asked tentatively.
“What, do you want me to lock down the whole city to find you?”
There was a hint of a joke in her tone. That meant there was no big problem. Ji Songshu wiggled her toes and replied:
“I didn’t hang up on you on purpose. My phone fell under the bed, and I didn’t see it. The phone hung up by itself.”
A faint sigh came from the other end of the phone.
“I heard from Carlotta that when you arrived, your hair and clothes were a mess, and you were caught in the rain. Tell me, what happened?”
“Nothing, it’s just that Qiqi ran to my house, so I brought her back,” Ji Songshu said muffledly.
“Qiqi wouldn’t run to your house for no reason.”
“Let me guess…” Through the phone, Shang Keyu’s voice seemed blurred, carrying a power that could see through people’s hearts. “That arrogant and domineering sister of yours bullied you again?”
Ji Songshu’s heart skipped a beat; she had been guessed correctly. She held her breath, waiting for Shang Keyu’s next words.
“What do you think of Italy?”
How did the topic suddenly turn to Italy? Ji Songshu was confused and said, “It’s quite good, why?”
“Carlotta will book a one-way ticket to Italy for your sister.”
“You don’t need to worry about anything else. I promise she won’t appear in your sight ever again.”
