- Chapter 3 - Reuniting with Dr. Meng
After returning home, Lu Shian showered, applied medication to his wounds, and called his assistant, Qi Lei. By the time he arrived at the office, Qi Lei had already investigated the matters he had assigned.
Lu Shian had changed into a deep blue shirt paired with a suit vest. The shirt collar was slightly higher than usual, perfectly concealing the red marks on his neck.
He stood before the floor to ceiling window smoking, his eyes reflecting a cold and ruthless glint. At this moment, he was surrounded by a simmering rage, radiating a powerful aura that warned everyone to keep their distance.
He exhaled a ring of smoke that swirled slowly upward. Lu Shian spoke, his voice freezing. “Is the matter with Fang Keke handled?”
Qi Lei immediately replied, “Rest assured, President Lu. She will never have another chance to appear in the public eye.”
“And the person who took me to the hotel to open a room, have you identified them?” Speaking of this, Lu Shian’s handsome face darkened with a fury cold enough to freeze someone to death.
Qi Lei hesitated for a moment before answering. “President Lu, we checked the hotel you mentioned. We have the list of everyone who checked in that night. However, the hotel surveillance was broken, so there is no footage of the person who brought you there. We can only cross reference the names on the list one by one.”
“Understood. Watch for any extortion calls over the next few days. If anything happens, deal with it immediately.”
Qi Lei quickly answered, “Yes, sir.”
Three days passed, yet no one contacted Lu Shian and there were no extortion calls. Qi Lei investigated everyone on the list, but none of them turned out to be the person who had checked in with Lu Shian.
The person who brought him there that night had not registered their identity at all. The only information gathered from the hotel staff was a single description: of the two people who arrived that night, one wore a mask to hide their features, while the other was tall, handsome, and very eye catching, looking like a celebrity.
Based on that description, the one in the mask was Lu Shian, and the tall, handsome celebrity was the one who had brought him to the room.
It went without saying that the mask must have been provided by that person. It was a medical mask; Lu Shian had seen it on the nightstand when he woke up. To avoid trouble when leaving, he had worn it out.
Lu Shian let out a cold sneer. The person even knew to put a mask on him; perhaps he should praise them for being so thoughtful.
Although the events of that night were repulsive, strictly speaking, the person had helped him by not coming forward to cause a scene. Lu Shian decided not to dwell on it further. He treated it as if he had been bitten by a dog and planned to turn the page.
Lu Shian was just leaving a meeting room and standing by the window to smoke when he received a call from Jiang Yu. Upon answering, he heard a chaotic and noisy atmosphere on the other end. Instinctively frowning, he moved the phone away from his ear.
The shouting continued for half a minute before Jiang Yu’s urgent voice came through. “Uncle, I was beaten up! I am at the hospital, come quickly!”
Lu Shian turned, stubbed out his freshly lit cigarette in the ashtray, and asked coldly, “Which hospital?”
“Jingda Affiliated, Orthopedics.”
Lu Shian said nothing more. He hung up, grabbed his suit jacket from the office chair, and left.
It was 3:00 PM on a weekday, so he avoided peak traffic. It took Lu Shian only half an hour to reach the hospital and find the orthopedic department. The driver went to park while Lu Shian headed inside alone.
The hospital corridor was crowded. From a distance, the sounds of cursing and crying reached his ears. The shouting came from Jiang Yu and a group of thugs with multicolored hair, while the crying came from a girl curled up in the corner clutching her arms.
Lu Shian accurately located Jiang Yu in the crowd. Seeing that he was about to start another fight, Lu Shian sharply barked his name.
Jiang Yu turned at the sound and saw Lu Shian walking toward him with long strides. Dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit with his hair meticulously styled, Lu Shian’s handsome face was pale and cold. With a hint of anger in his eyes and a frigid temperament, he caused Jiang Yu to stop his attempt to swing a punch.
While Jiang Yu was distracted, Lu Shian shouted, “Behind you!”
As Jiang Yu turned, one of the thugs with yellow hair grabbed a club and swung it at him. Before Jiang Yu could react, Lu Shian was already there. He raised his foot and kicked the thug squarely in the stomach.
The thug fell, his back hitting the nurse station behind him as he groaned in pain. Another wave of chaos erupted, and the young female nurses scrambled away in fear. Soon, security arrived to pull the two fighting parties apart.
Before the area could return to silence, the door to one of the consultation rooms opened. A man in a white lab coat stepped out, removing a mask that had just been splattered by a patient’s saliva. He looked at the chaotic crowd and asked, “Who is the family member of the patient? Come in and hold him down.”
His warm voice was somewhat cold but very pleasant to hear. His gaze swept over the people nearby, finally settling on the most prominent figure in the crowd: Lu Shian.
Lu Shian looked back, and as their eyes locked, he froze for a moment. He was stunned by the man’s appearance; he was tall, handsome, and possessed an ethereal quality. He had the kind of face that could easily capture Lu Shian’s attention.
As Lu Shian continued to stare, his initial amazement turned into a sense of familiarity. His memories were distant and hard to grasp, but after a long search, he finally caught the detail he needed and remembered the man’s name.
His name was Meng Yu.
When he fully recalled the man, he completely froze in place.
The surroundings went quiet for a few seconds. The yellow haired thug whom Lu Shian had kicked was consumed by a mindless rage. He scrambled up from the floor, grabbed a nearby stool, and swung it toward the closest person: Lu Shian.
Lu Shian was still lost in his thoughts until Meng Yu, who was staring back at him, knit his brows and rushed toward him. He heard Meng Yu call out his name, “Lu Shian.” Those three words carried a heavy weight, crashing into Lu Shian’s heart.
Before he could process it, a dull pain flared in his shoulder, followed by a sharp sting at the back of his head.
“Uncle!” Jiang Yu’s furious and anxious voice echoed in his ears. Immediately after, someone else threw a punch, and the area descended into chaos again.
The pain brought Lu Shian back to his senses. Realizing he was injured, he reached back to touch the back of his head, but before he could reach the wound, his hand was intercepted in mid air.
