- After Returning from a Faked Death, My Crazed, Rebellious Disciple Forced His Love Upon Me
- Chapter 3 - I Have Come to Fetch You
Ji Chen was never the type of person to let fate dictate his path. Being forced by a System to complete tasks was one thing; he only endured it because he wanted to return to the real world. However, being forced to marry someone especially the person he least wanted to see was another matter entirely. He would not simply accept his fate and wait for death.
In the middle of the night, while everyone else was fast asleep, Ji Chen quietly slipped out of the disciples’ dormitory. Outside, the moonlight was sparse and the surroundings were shrouded in darkness.
Ji Chen stumbled along the mountain path, struggling forward through the night. The sect was actually built on a plateau halfway up the mountain, but Ji Chen’s destination was the summit. The protective seals did not stop him, likely because they were only designed to trigger if he tried to leave Chang Le Peak.
It took him the entire night to climb from the mountainside to the peak. By the time he reached the top, he was gasping for breath. After all, he was currently just a mere mortal with the physical stamina of an ordinary teenager. The air at the summit was thin. To make matters worse, it had snowed the previous night, making the cold bone-chilling.
Ji Chen wrapped his arms around himself, shivering as he walked toward the center of the peak. A tall tower stood there. The structure was covered in sealing talismans and guarded by soul-guarding disciples. However, the tower did not hold a prisoner; it was used to seal a single sword named “Nian Chen.”
That was Ji Chen’s personal sword from his previous life. Since his death, the sword had fallen into the hands of his eldest disciple. Because no one else could use it, it had been sealed away here. The sword possessed its own spiritual root attributes and had recognized him as its master; it could recognize his soul. As long as he touched the sword, he could recover some of his spiritual power and cultivation. Whether he could return to his original level of power remained unclear.
Previously, Ji Chen had no desire to involve himself with his past. Even after being reborn within his eldest disciple’s sect, he had no intention of revealing his identity. Consequently, he had avoided touching the sword. But now, driven by circumstance, he had to use this method to escape the fate of a forced marriage.
Ji Chen approached the tower. From a distance, a soul-guarding disciple spotted a figure approaching and immediately shouted, “Who goes there!”
Ji Chen maintained a calm, faint smile and took two quick steps forward. “I am a sect disciple, Ji Chen.”
“Ji Chen?”
Ji Chen knew the guard would not recognize him. The soul-guarding disciples rarely left the tower; the guard likely had not been present during the selection vote.
“I am a newly recruited disciple under the Sect Leader. The Sect Leader sensed an anomaly in the barrier near the tower and feared that demonic cultivators might be coveting Nian Chen. Therefore, he sent me specifically to investigate.”
Ji Chen told this lie without a hint of guilt, causing the soul-guarding disciple to fail to realize he was being deceived.
“If that is the case, then proceed with your investigation quickly,” the guard replied.
Ji Chen added, “I must go inside to check.”
Without a second thought, the guard deactivated the seals and opened the entrance to the barrier. Ji Chen did not expect things to go so smoothly. With a composed demeanor, he followed the guard into the tower and began the long climb, floor by floor.
There were thirty-six floors in total. By the time Ji Chen reached the mid-teens, he was exhausted. He had spent all his energy climbing the mountain; being forced to climb a tower now was simply pushing him to his limit.
The guard reached the top first and realized Ji Chen was no longer behind him. He looked down in confusion. “Fellow Daoist, your stamina is far too poor. Are you truly the Sect Leader’s disciple?”
Ji Chen was busy forcing himself through this “extreme sport.” He was panting so hard he had no breath left to answer. Finally, after much hardship, Ji Chen reached the top of the tower.
The room at the summit was dark, with no windows and only faint ambient light. By that meager brightness, Ji Chen could barely make out the space. It was small but empty, and the air was filled with a familiar spiritual energy. It was an indescribable feeling, as if he were reuniting with a dear friend he had not seen in years.
At the far end of the room stood an exquisite sandalwood table. Aside from this table, the room was empty. On the table sat a sword rack holding a single blade. The sword was slender with a silver scabbard and an elegant spine. A silver lotus was carved into the hilt. It was a masterpiece of a sword, but it had lost its former radiance. Without the blessing of spiritual light, it looked no different from an ordinary mortal weapon.
Ji Chen felt a wave of emotion as he remembered how he had discovered the Cold White Abyss Stone beneath a piece of coral in the deepest parts of the Northern Abyss. He had spent eight years forging this blade using his own spiritual fire. It was a pity that such a great sword had been hidden and sealed for so many years.
Before Ji Chen even drew near, the sword began to tremble on its own.
The guard gasped in shock, “What is happening!”
Ji Chen’s eyes shone brightly. Looking at the trembling remnant of his past, he parted his lips and spoke softly: “I have come to fetch you.”
In an instant, a dazzling white spiritual light erupted from the sword like a volcanic explosion! The light was incredibly hot and surged with an unstoppable momentum, instantly illuminating the dark space. It even pierced through the top of the tower and shot into the sky, causing the clouds above to shift and change.
Such a disturbance was impossible to ignore. The guard suddenly realized the truth and turned to Ji Chen, shouting fiercely, “You were lying! The Sect Leader clearly stated he would only ever take one disciple!”
