- Chapter 9 - Master Sacrifices His Body to the Sword
After receiving this task, Lin Sui felt a strange sense of relief. The mission to prevent the villain from going to the outer sect had finally ended. However, he was now required to help the villain break through to the Foundation Establishment stage within a month while simultaneously nursing his own broken body back to health. How was that possible?
It was physically impossible for his shattered body to recover within a single month. His Eldest Senior Brother must have calculated this intentionally. Nevertheless, Lin Sui had already decided to use a different identity to approach the villain and complete the mission. The identity of Lin Suizhi was one he could do without.
“System, as long as I guide the villain to follow the path of the male protagonist and seize everything the protagonist owns, that will be enough, correct? There is no strict requirement regarding the identity I use, is there?” Lin Sui was truly terrified of being electrocuted and felt it was best to clarify matters with the System.
“Yes,” the System replied curtly, offering nothing more than a simple confirmation.
Upon hearing this, Lin Sui was so overcome with joy that he nearly wept. While he could not fully restore his health in a month, he was confident enough in his ability to help the villain achieve Foundation Establishment. If necessary, he would simply take the villain and defect from the sect. After all, the goal was to follow the protagonist’s path, but it never stated he had to steal the protagonist’s actual identity.
He lowered his eyes to analyze the pros and cons before finally looking toward the empty air in front of him. A look of reluctance appeared on his face as he spoke. “Yan’er, if you do not wish to go, Master will not force you.”
Xiao Qingyan did not believe for a moment that Lin Sui wanted him to stay simply because the outer sect was dangerous. He suspected that if he went to the outer sect, Lin Sui would no longer be able to use his heart’s blood to suppress the cold poison.
“Master, this disciple believes that new knowledge can also be gained in the outer sect.”
This statement was an indirect way of saying that Lin Sui had never taught his young disciple anything. Otherwise, he would not have claimed he could learn new things in the outer sect. Seeing that Lin Sui was about to speak again, Xiao Qingyan immediately added, “Master, staying here will only interfere with your secluded meditation.”
Seeing that Lin Sui still intended to keep Xiao Qingyan by his side, Mo Bai strode to the youth’s side and picked him up.
“Junior Brother, since your disciple is determined to go to the outer sect, as his Martial Uncle, I must see him off personally.” After speaking, Mo Bai vanished from the room in a flash.
With the departure of the two men, the room suddenly became incredibly quiet. In truth, Lin Sui had only wanted to ask Mo Bai for someone to assist him. He was currently blind and needed someone to look after him. He had tried using his divine sense, but it was shrouded in a gray mist. He could hear sounds within a ten mile radius, but he was completely unable to see anything.
Now, Mo Bai was no longer by his side, and Su Zhanyun had stopped communicating out of anger. An endless silence enveloped him, and a sense of loneliness rose unbidden in his heart, as if he were the only person left in the entire world. He tried calling out to the System.
“Host, I am here.”
The System’s timely response allowed his drifting heart to find a place to rest.
Lin Sui asked, “Can you heal my eyes?”
“I apologize, but I cannot.”
“Then what should I do? If I cannot see, how can I help the villain break through to Foundation Establishment?” Lin Sui did not believe the System was truly helpless.
The System remained silent for a long time before finally speaking, “I can act as your eyes.”
“How will you do that? Will I have laser eyes?”
“…” The System paused before continuing in a stiff tone, “I will describe to you what I see.”
“Then you are a very useless system,” Lin Sui grumbled. “I have seen other systems provide their hosts with so many perks. In my case, I have no perks at all, and you cannot even heal my eyes. How old is this system of yours? Why do you have nothing? No points, and not even the ability to block pain.”
Lin Sui continued to mutter his complaints. He wondered just how unlucky he had to be for the System to choose him for binding. Even if people with the same name were destined to transmigrate, his name was not even identical to the original owner. His name was Lin Sui, while the original owner was Lin Suizhi. They were different by one character.
“I hope the Host will focus on completing the task and not dwell on matters outside of the mission.”
Lin Sui could do nothing about the System. He raised his hand and sent a voice transmission to Su Zhanyun. “Sect Leader Senior Brother,”
“Call me Eldest Senior Brother!”
Fine, his Eldest Senior Brother’s anger had still not subsided.
“Eldest Senior Brother, I am about to enter secluded meditation. Do you have anything else to instruct me?” Lin Sui asked cautiously, fearing that Su Zhanyun might find some flaw in his behavior.
Suddenly, Su Zhanyun frowned, sensing that his Junior Brother was acting very uncharacteristically. Usually, he would have to force his Junior Brother into meditation, yet this time, he was being remarkably obedient. However, since Xiao Qingyan had already been sent to the outer sect by Mo Bai, it was too late for his Junior Brother to cause a scene.
“Focus on your meditation and do not worry about other matters. I,” Su Zhanyun cracked his knuckles before continuing, “I will keep an eye on Xiao Qingyan for you. I will not allow him to be bullied. Besides, that rebellious disciple of yours has already dared to try and kill you twice. Who would dare to bully him?”
By the end of his sentence, Su Zhanyun’s tone grew sharp, and his opinion of Xiao Qingyan had clearly hit rock bottom. Lin Sui wanted to correct him. The great villain Xiao Qingyan had actually killed him three times already, not twice. However, he could not say that, or Su Zhanyun might actually expel Xiao Qingyan from the sect.
“But Yan’er is still young and ignorant after all,” Lin Sui said, deciding to continue his role as the master who saw only the best in his disciple.
“Enough! Do not forget that Xiao Qingyan is not your only disciple. Your eldest disciple will return in three days. Will you not wait for his return before starting your meditation?”
Lin Sui looked at the countdown timer in the System space. There were only twenty nine days left, and time waited for no one. Although he had always wanted to meet the original owner’s genius eldest disciple, he could not guarantee that something might happen during those three days to cause his mission to fail.
“No.”
“Your eldest disciple has not seen you in a long time. Every time he returns, you are in secluded meditation. This time he sent word in advance. Are you truly not going to wait?”
Lin Sui hesitated. It was only a three day wait, and he did not necessarily have to be in meditation to help Xiao Qingyan. Just as he was about to agree, the System released a current of electricity that caused a muffled groan of pain to escape his lips. He had to lean against the table to keep from falling.
“Junior Brother? Suian?” Hearing Lin Sui’s groan, Su Zhanyun stood up abruptly, much to the surprise of the elders sitting below him.
One of the most authoritative elders spoke up, “Zhanyun, it is not that I wish to criticize, but you have all spent far too much time and energy on that useless man, Lin Suizhi.”
“Indeed, Zhanyun. Lin Suizhi is already an outcast of the Sanqing Sect. He has no value left to offer. It would be better to abandon him sooner rather than later,” another elder urged earnestly.
Lin Suizhi should have died a century ago during the Great War Against Demons. However, the Immortal Lianqing had insisted on keeping him alive at all costs, pouring countless treasures into his body. As elders, they were resentful but dared not speak out, feeling only heartache for the wasted resources.
The Peak Master of Divination had calculated a century ago that Lin Suizhi was destined for an early death and could not live past twenty, regardless of his cultivation. Yet, he had a powerful master who scoured the world for treasures to extend his life.
“Shut your mouths! If you had not forced my Junior Brother to sacrifice his body to the sword back then, would his health be this fragile now?”
