- Chapter 33 - Master Unleashes His Full Power!
Lin Sui could not see. He could only follow the sword in his hand as it guided him to block the attacker’s blade. Because of the vast disparity in their spiritual power, he was forced back several steps, his wrists vibrating until they went numb.
Failing to connect with the first strike, the attacker launched another.
Overwhelmed and unable to keep up, Lin Sui’s body began to strain. Both of his hands were shaking, but he gritted his teeth and continued to parry.
Xiao Qingyan was right behind him. If Lin Sui were to forcefully break his seal right now, his spiritual power would surge out, and his disguise would be exposed instantly.
He had no choice but to take this blow head-on.
However, the expected pain never arrived.
Xiao Qingyan blocked the sword for Lin Sui just in time. His demonic whip tightly entangled the blade that was about to pierce Lin Sui’s left shoulder.
Zhu Jiayu, who had already been stabbed once, had long since fallen into a coma and lay unconscious in a pool of blood.
Xiao Qingyan’s pitch-black pupils turned blood-red, the fury in the depths of his eyes threatening to burn away his remaining sanity.
“Hahahahaha.”
The attacker laughed again. Just as he was about to say something, two or three tentacles, each as thick as a man’s arm, emerged from behind Xiao Qingyan and rushed straight toward him.
The man’s smile deepened. Exhibiting no fear whatsoever, he waved his hand to yank his sword back. With one strike per tentacle, he battered the black appendages back into clumps of demonic energy.
A dull pain flared in Xiao Qingyan’s chest. He clutched his chest, unable to suppress a muffled groan.
“Senior Brother Xiao?” Hearing this, Lin Sui raised his sword to strike again. The blade let out a low hum, refusing to be used by its master.
[Master, Master! Your spiritual power is too low, it is not enough! If you keep using it, you will get hurt!]
The small bird perched on Lin Sui’s shoulder flew onto his sword-wielding hand, its beak frantically pecking at his jade-white fingers.
Hearing the commotion on this side, Xiao Qingyan quickly barked an order to stop Lin Sui.
“Junior Brother Lin! Fall back!”
He straightened up and used his spiritual power to cast a protective barrier over Lin Sui. Glimpsing Zhu Jiayu collapsed on the ground out of the corner of his eye, he cast two more protective barriers over him as well.
Only then did he turn around to face the attacker in battle.
The attacker possessed an advanced cultivation level. Fighting Xiao Qingyan was practically like playing with a baby chick. He toyed with Xiao Qingyan until the latter was drenched in sweat and his demonic energy was thoroughly depleted.
Yet, every single time the sword was on the verge of piercing Xiao Qingyan’s body, the man would pull it back.
“Who are you? Why did you lure me here?”
Did this person lure him here just to make a fool out of him?
The man unhurriedly pinched Xiao Qingyan’s demonic whip. “To harvest your demonic heart, of course.”
A smiling face appeared before Xiao Qingyan’s eyes. A powerful, perilous aura oppressed him, leaving his limbs rigid. Even at the cost of fracturing the meridians inside his body, he could not move an inch.
“However, I wasn’t the one who lured you here. It was your Master who lured you here. Your Master approached me five days ago. He is to take your demonic core, and I am to gouge out your demonic heart.”
The man’s fingers reached toward Xiao Qingyan’s abdomen, poking directly at the spot where his demonic core was hidden.
“My, you actually formed a demonic core in a mere seven days?”
Master! Master!
Why is it Master again?!
Both of Xiao Qingyan’s eyes stained red, his pitch-black pupils shifting entirely to a bloody hue. Influenced by its master’s volatile emotions, the demonic core inside his body vibrated violently.
“Don’t worry. A demonic cultivator can still live without a heart. As for living without a demonic core, they can live through that too. They will just be a useless cripple, that is all.”
Lin Sui finally convinced the sword spirit. He ignited a teleportation talisman, and the spiritual bird flew into the space between Lin Sui’s eyebrows, sharing its vision with him.
His vision suddenly cleared. Lin Sui aimed at the back of the attacker’s heart, closed his eyes, and plunged his sword straight in. Bright red blood sprayed out.
He teleported to Xiao Qingyan’s side. A new teleportation talisman appeared at his fingertips. He grabbed Xiao Qingyan’s arm and went to ignite it, but his movements froze mid-action.
The attacker had similarly grabbed his shoulder. The man brought his face close and asked, “Where do you think you are going?”
“Go!” Lin Sui pressed against Xiao Qingyan’s arm. In an instant, Xiao Qingyan vanished from the spot.
“Interesting. I am getting a bit curious as to how many magical treasures you have in your possession.” The man tapped his chest with a finger to staunch the bleeding, and the sword wound healed in the blink of an eye.
“High-grade teleportation talismans, and used all at once. Hmm.” The man turned his head to look at the pool of blood, the smile on his face turning horrific. “You used four of them.”
The man behind him had not fully revealed his cultivation level, so Lin Sui dared not act rashly. Although his original body had reached the Soul Transformation stage, he could not guarantee a one-hit kill. He could only wait and see what this man intended to do next.
“Who on earth are you? Why did you say my Senior Brother’s Master lured him here?”
If it were not for the fact that he did not know how deep this person’s cultivation ran, he probably would have broken his seal long ago and sliced this guy in half!
He was framing him out of nowhere!
Five days ago, he was still stuck inside the illusion realm! How could he have possibly made a deal with this person!
[Master, Master, calm your mind, calm your mind!]
The spiritual bird kept using its own gentle spiritual power to soothe Lin Sui’s agitated meridians, terrified that its master would enrage himself into a blackout.
“So you only listen to what you want to hear, huh? You only heard the part about your Senior Brother being sold out by his Master, but you do not care in the slightest about the fact that your Senior Brother is a demonic cultivator!”
The hand resting on his shoulder suddenly exerted force, snapping his shoulder bone with a sickening crack.
The bone crunched loudly. Lin Sui nearly dropped to his knees from the agonizing pain. But the man refused to let go, his five fingers clawing into Lin Sui’s shoulder, burying his fingernails deep into the flesh.
The pain caused Lin Sui’s face to spasm and his features to contort in agony.
Damn it, this guy’s level of perversion is right up there with the main villain’s! What kind of normal person puts salt under their fingernails?!
The spiritual bird flew out from between Lin Sui’s eyebrows, frantically pecking at the hand gripping his shoulder.
[Bad guy! Bad guy! How dare you bully my master!!!]
Lin Sui could no longer tolerate the pain. Spiritual power came erupting forth from his Golden Core.
His physique rapidly grew, expanding into his adult form. The sword in his hand buzzed and wailed, its blade trembling with an excitement so intense it practically craved to drink blood immediately.
The white bird shed its fledgling appearance, a bright vermilion cinnabar mark manifesting between its brows as well.
With a sweep of his sword, Lin Sui knocked the hand off his shoulder. His face carried a cold rage, and the cinnabar mark between his eyebrows glowed with an eerie redness.
“Is it fun to spread rumors about me over and over again?”
Seeing its master’s spiritual power return, the white bird let out an excited, prolonged cry.
[Master, Master! I knew there was no way your spiritual power could be so pitifully meager! So you were faking it all along!]
The white bird looked at its master with stars in its eyes.
“Get in.”
Understanding the command, the white bird immediately flew back into the space between Lin Sui’s eyebrows to serve as his eyes.
“No wonder you were not surprised to hear that Xiao Qingyan is a demonic cultivator. So it is Immortal Master Lin! Tell me, what do you think your disciple would do if he found out that the junior brother he protected with all his heart is actually his Master?”
He would torture me until I wish I were dead, thank you very much.
“He Busheng!” Lin Sui matched the man’s name from the memories of his original body. “You are not dead yet?!”
“I died, but I managed to reclaim a life and took up the Ghost Path.” He Busheng was suddenly in no hurry to fight. He unhurriedly sat cross-legged on the floor, patted the ground with a smile, and said, “Come over and sit down, Immortal Master!”
Lin Sui remained completely unmoved. He Busheng pulled a bored face, but then his lips curled up into another smirk.
“Immortal Master Lin, this life of mine was saved by you in the first place! There is no one else here, so there is no need to put on an act,” He Busheng continued.
Lin Sui had absolutely no intention of wasting time listening to his nonsense. If he said he was going to chop him in half, then he was going to chop him in half!
A massive boom echoed as a pillar inside the hall collapsed with a resounding crash.
He Busheng’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief, and he immediately erupted into furious cursing, “Lin Zuizhi! Are you insane? You are trying to kill me? Do not forget that we are still collaborating! Watch out, or I will expose every single piece of dirty laundry you have ever committed!”
