- Chapter 32 - Why Won't Junior Brother Look at Him?!
“Junior Brother Lin, who do you want to choose in the inner sect disciple selection half a month from now?” Xiao Qingyan asked with a hint of anticipation.
His master was only unkind to him, but treated their Eldest Senior Brother exceptionally well. In fact, before his master discovered he possessed the Innate Demon Body, his master had been very good to him too.
“Ah! Can I participate in the inner sect disciple selection as well?” Lin Sui pretended to be surprised, a look of expectation rippling through his eyes.
Please, no! If he were to actually show up at the inner sect disciple selection, his Eldest Senior Brother would definitely get so angry that he would burst into a flashing, golden rage on the spot. Furthermore, his other senior brothers and senior sisters would also be returning by then. Lin Sui could already picture exactly what kind of chaotic scene that would be. Just thinking about it made him shudder.
“Junior Brother, you can do it. You have to believe in yourself! Once we find Senior Brother Feng and return to the sect, I can teach you!”
Although his master had treated him poorly later on, during the first two years after he was accepted as a disciple, his master had actually been very kind to him. He had taught him hand-in-hand, and whenever Xiao Qingyan failed to understand, his master never scolded him.
“But, Senior Brother, I think the outer sect is pretty good too. After all, I got to meet you here.”
“Don’t you want to avenge your parents? Make yourself stronger, and go kill the demon cultivators who slaughtered them. Once you become strong, you can eradicate every single one of those damnable demon cultivators,” Xiao Qingyan coaxed him step by step. He wanted his junior brother to remain by his side forever.
Lin Sui pursed his lips. He nodded, then shook his head.
“But Senior Brother, just staying alive is already hard enough for me. I don’t want revenge. Before my parents died, they also told me to live a good life and not to dwell on them.”
As Lin Sui finished speaking, a single tear slipped from the corner of his eye and fell with a soft tap into the empty cup he was holding. He forced a smile and continued, “Senior Brother, do we cultivate immortality just to kill demon cultivators? Aren’t they living beings too? They have families just like I do.”
Xiao Qingyan’s face flushed with fury. “Why? Aren’t demon cultivators supposed to die? Everyone has a duty to execute those who walk such an evil and heterodox path!”
Lin Sui sighed internally, unable to comprehend why the antagonist, who was the future Demon Venerable, held such immense malice toward demon cultivators.
“Senior Brother, you said it yourself that it applies to those who are evil and heterodox. Not all demon cultivators deserve to die.”
“Do you not hate them?”
An idea that Xiao Qingyan had never considered before suddenly sprouted in his mind. If his junior brother did not hate demon cultivators, then could he be completely honest about his true identity with his junior brother?
Lin Sui let out a soft laugh. How could the antagonist be so naive? Just because he did not seek revenge and did not believe all demon cultivators deserved to die did not mean he did not feel hatred. He closed his eyes, calming the unpleasant emotions churning in his chest, before he finally spoke.
“I hate them.”
Xiao Qingyan’s heart shuddered violently. That single word, “hate,” felt like a sharp blade plunging ruthlessly into his chest, sending a piercing ache through every limb and bone in his body. He clenched his teeth tightly to keep his voice from trembling. “Why? Didn’t you just say that demon cultivators do not all deserve to die, Junior Brother?”
Suddenly, the disciple token at his waist vibrated violently, and a sharp cry echoed from it. This meant that Zhu Jiayu was in trouble.
Lin Sui stood up abruptly and grabbed the disciple token. His brow furrowed with anxiety, and his voice faltered out of sheer panic, leaving him unable to form a coherent sentence.
“Senior Brother Zhu! Where are you? Are you alright?”
“Junior Brother Lin, spit.”
Lin Sui genuinely panicked. This was the antagonist’s White Moonlight, the cherished, irreplaceable person. He could not let the White Moonlight die, or else saving the blackened antagonist from his dark path would become even more impossible.
In his desperation, his sea of consciousness violently convulsed. A mouthful of blood nearly surged up, but he forced himself to swallow it down with great difficulty. Pulling out a teleportation talisman, he chanted Zhu Jiayu’s name, and in the blink of an eye, he vanished from the room.
He vanished so quickly that Xiao Qingyan was only able to catch a fleeting corner of Lin Sui’s robe.
The irises of Xiao Qingyan’s pitch-black eyes instantly flooded with a violent crimson.
Zhu Jiayu! Zhu Jiayu! Why won’t Junior Brother look at him?!
In a fit of unbridled rage, Xiao Qingyan smashed everything in the room to absolute pieces. He snatched up his own disciple token, his voice dripping with an uncontrollable, suppressed fury.
“Zhu Jiayu, where are you right now?”
When the transmission went through, the voice that answered was not Zhu Jiayu’s. “Don’t be angry, Immortal! I will not kill your junior brother. I merely want to meet you, Immortal. If you do not come, then I might just…”
The speaker cut themselves off, followed by a chorus of sinister, cackling laughter. The sound sent an ominous chill down Xiao Qingyan’s spine.
“Hand over my senior brother!”
Lin Sui’s gaze was icy cold. He could not see anyone and could only rely entirely on his senses. The system that had promised to act as his eyes would not appear unless the antagonist was in mortal danger. He was entirely on his own.
“Junior Brother Lin, why are you here? Go back quickly! Senior Brother is fine!”
“Aaaaaah!!!”
The word “fine” turned into an agonizing shriek, followed by the sickening squelch of a blade piercing through flesh. The sound made Lin Sui’s heart tremble, and his grip on his sword grew unsteady.
“Immortal, your junior brother is currently in my hands. Doing whatever I want to him is as easy as turning over my hand.”
The attacker showed no fear whatsoever. He pulled the sword out of Zhu Jiayu’s left shoulder and looked at Lin Sui with a mocking smile. He even used his tongue to lick away the blood coating the blade.
Zhu Jiayu’s hands and feet were tightly bound, and a bloody hole in his left shoulder was continuously pouring out crimson fluid.
“Junior Brother! Your body has only just recovered, go back quickly! Go back! You are no match for him!” Zhu Jiayu practically screamed. He collapsed onto the ground, dragging his body forward to bite down on the edge of the attacker’s robes.
“Just recovered?!” The attacker laughed, his eyes narrowing into slits as his tone lifted with cruel amusement. He began to scrutinize Lin Sui closely.
Suddenly, he realized that although the person standing before him held a sword with an imposing aura, the spiritual energy surrounding him was incredibly meager. Moreover, those pale blue eyes were completely out of focus, staring blankly ahead.
“Hahaha!!! Your Sanqing Sect really accepts just about anyone, don’t they? They even take in a blind man?”
Lin Sui’s pupils contracted slightly. On the surface, he always acted as though he did not care about his blindness, but deep down, it still stung. He could not see, his body was weak, and his spiritual energy was sealed. He was basically no different from a useless person. He had been useless enough back in the modern world, and when he arrived in the cultivation world, he thought he would finally get to experience a healthy body. Instead, his original host’s body was even more broken than his old one!
“Give my senior brother back to me!” Lin Sui’s gaze grew colder as he poured his remaining spiritual energy into his sword.
The longsword in his hand began to radiate a flowing, silvery-white light. Fed by the spiritual energy, the silver light transformed into the shape of a small bird. It perched happily on Lin Sui’s shoulder, affectionately nuzzling against his cheek.
“Wahhh.”
“Master, it has been so long since you last used me.”
“I missed you so much!”
Was this the voice of the sword spirit?
Feeling the emotions of the little bird on his shoulder, a matching wave of nostalgic longing welled up within Lin Sui’s own heart.
“Interesting, truly interesting. Can even an outer sect disciple of the Sanqing Sect possess a soul-bound natal sword now? Though looking at it, this sword does not seem like something those stingy Immortal Venerables from the Sanqing Sect would willingly give away.”
The man stroked his chin and mused, “No wonder a blind man like you could be accepted as a disciple by the Sanqing Sect. It turns out you are wielding a divine weapon!”
“I have truly reaped a grand harvest today. I originally planned to let you go, but now, you have to die too!”
The man’s tone turned savage. He kicked away Zhu Jiayu, who was still biting his robes, and a terrifying sword intent erupted from his blade. He lunged forward, aiming straight for Lin Sui’s vital points.
Arriving just in time, Xiao Qingyan’s pupils dilated in pure horror. “Junior Brother!”
