After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 8
The first thing Xia Shishi did upon returning to her long-unseen room was to find all the gifts Wen Jiao had given her.
Most of these items were sent by Wen Jiao’s people after the two families confirmed their engagement.
Except for that necklace.
She hung the clothes in the wardrobe, placed the jewelry and skincare products on the dressing table, and took out some other things that might be useful.
Only when she felt that the room was filled with Wen Jiao’s presence did Xia Shishi breathe a sigh of relief.
This way, she could feel Wen Jiao’s company and finally sleep peacefully.
“I’ll go find her tomorrow,” Xia Shishi murmured, sitting on the bed. She took out her phone, intending to text Wen Jiao, only to realize she hadn’t saved Wen Jiao’s number.
Of course, how could she have done such a thing before? Xia Shishi felt a rush of regret.
The main issue was that even after being reborn, Xia Shishi couldn’t recall Wen Jiao’s mobile number.
I’ll ask Mom for it tomorrow. I can’t let Wen Jiao know about this.
Xia Shishi lay in bed, thinking she would fall asleep quickly, as she was genuinely too exhausted. Yet, even though she was sure she had been reborn, the recurring image when she closed her eyes was still of her death.
So suffocating, so painful, and the hardest part was that she could only watch Wen Jiao, unable to touch her.
Xia Shishi started crying again, tears soaking the pillow. She was both sleepy and reluctant to fall asleep just like that. She desperately wanted to see Wen Jiao again.
She only had eight hours at most. In eight hours, she must rush to the Wen family’s house to see her!
Thinking of this, Xia Shishi finally drifted into a confused sleep.
She had to sleep. She needed to look beautiful when she went to see Wen Jiao. Going with dark circles would be too awful…
Early the next morning, Xia Shishi woke up very early.
After a quick wash, she walked out of the room and saw Qi Xue still standing by the door.
Xia Shishi instantly showed a look of disgust: “Didn’t I tell you to get lost?”
Qi Xue said timidly: “I came to wake you up…”
Xia Shishi: “I don’t need you to.”
The excitement of being able to see Wen Jiao soon was completely ruined at this moment. Xia Shishi glared at her with a foul look: “Even if you continue to cling around, you won’t get paid. If I come back and you haven’t left, I’ll have the butler throw out all your belongings!”
Qi Xue was stunned, and tears immediately streamed down her face. She hadn’t expected Xia Shishi to be serious.
Qi Xue didn’t want to be fired. She might never find a better job than this one, so she kept apologizing to Xia Shishi: “I’m sorry, whatever I did wrong, I can change.”
“I told you I don’t need you to!” Xia Shishi was already planning to bypass her and walk toward her mother’s bedroom. Hearing Qi Xue’s words, her stomach churned, and her eyes were filled with revulsion.
She had a bad temper, a really bad one.
Especially since she hadn’t slept well all night, and the hope of seeing Wen Jiao upon waking up was dashed, leaving her especially irritable.
She couldn’t see the person she most wanted to see, but instead saw the person she most loathed. She was furious.
Xia Shishi wasn’t even this angry when Zhou Xiaojiang had schemed against her.
But why you, Qi Xue?
The Xia family paid her a base salary of fifty thousand a month, which was considered a high-paying job.
Qi Xue had been with Xia Shishi since high school.
Even though Xia Shishi had a bad temper, she would restrain herself around people she was close to. She had been very good to Qi Xue, even buying her a matching item when shopping, treating her practically like a sister.
And then what? Just because Zhou Xiaojiang offered ten thousand, she happily betrayed Xia Shishi.
The person who shouldn’t have betrayed Xia Shishi the most was you, Qi Xue.
Xia Shishi couldn’t suppress the nauseous feeling in her stomach: “I didn’t want to bring this up to my parents. Don’t you know what you’ve done? Do you really want me to expose everything?”
Hearing this, Qi Xue’s face showed an unprecedented embarrassment. She was inwardly suspicious, unable to figure out how Xia Shishi, this scatterbrain, had found out.
“I thought you just didn’t like Wen Jiao, so I…” Qi Xue still tried to argue.
“Shut up,” Xia Shishi said coldly. “She is my wife. I don’t want to hear anyone say I don’t like her, especially not you, Qi Xue.”
“This is the final warning. You had better move out before noon.”
Ignoring Qi Xue’s flustered expression, Xia Shishi headed towards the master bedroom.
Under her mother’s extremely complicated gaze, she managed to get Wen Jiao’s phone number. Only then did the expression on her face soften considerably.
Looking at the string of numbers she had just saved on her phone, Xia Shishi curved her lips into a smile. She saved the contact as “My Dear Wife” before happily walking out. She didn’t even stop when she passed the tearfully sobbing Qi Xue.
She truly couldn’t wait any longer. If she didn’t see her Jiao Jiao soon, she felt she would die.
Not long after Xia Shishi left, Qi Xue dropped her near-crying expression.
In the past, whenever she showed even a hint of timidity, Xia Shishi would actively try to placate her. Therefore, Qi Xue had always felt a sense of achievement.
Even though Xia Shishi was the glamorous daughter of the Xia family in the eyes of outsiders, in front of her, she was just a fool.
Xia Shishi had a poor personality and easily offended people. She had few friends. Who else besides her would be willing to stay by Xia Shishi’s side?
Thus, Qi Xue always believed she was irreplaceable and would never be fired by Xia Shishi!
She had only taken ten thousand yuan from Zhou Xiaojiang, agreeing to urge Xia Shishi to quickly call off the engagement, or at least make a scene. It was better than marrying a crippled woman, after all.
What was she doing wrong? Was she mistaken in what she said?
Uncomfortable looks were being cast at her from all directions in the villa, but Qi Xue still didn’t leave. She simply couldn’t understand why Xia Shishi had suddenly changed her mind.
Did Xia Shishi really think that marrying Wen Jiao would bring her a good life?
Qi Xue took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and sent a message to Zhou Xiaojiang. She couldn’t afford to be fired. There was no easier or more lucrative job than this one.
Wen Jiao’s sleep had always been light.
Her room used the best soundproofing materials, comparable to a recording studio, because Wen Jiao tended to wake up at the slightest noise during sleep.
In the silent room, the screen of the phone on the bedside table flashed. Even with the silent mode on, Wen Jiao frowned and opened her eyes.
She managed to support herself with her hand and reach for the phone. When she saw who had sent the text, a look of surprise appeared in her cold eyes.
It was… Xia Shishi.
The three characters “Xia Shishi” sat neatly at the top. The text message was a playful, brief sentence: I’m coming to find you~
Wen Jiao couldn’t put the phone down, and her heart softened completely.
She had thought she would never receive a message from Xia Shishi, and that even if she actively texted Xia Shishi, she would be blocked.
Wen Jiao clenched her hand, wanting to call Xia Shishi and ask where she was now.
But her fingers kept trembling, and she couldn’t press the button.
Cold sweat broke out on Wen Jiao’s forehead, and her face grew paler. She clutched her chest, her breathing ragged.
Before long, Zheng He rushed in with the doctor: “Why is your heart rate erratic again? Did some inconsiderate person walk past your room again?”
Wen Jiao put down her phone, her lips moving. She wanted to say something but was somewhat lost for words.
She couldn’t very well say that she was this flustered just because of a single text message from Xia Shishi.
