After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 15
Tears welled up in Xia Shishi’s eyes. After a long pause, she finally said with a tremor, “I don’t agree.”
Even if Wen Jiao didn’t like her anymore, or wanted to break off the engagement—it didn’t matter.
Xia Shishi definitely wasn’t going to agree.
Heaven had given her a chance to love her properly, and even if Wen Jiao came to dislike her, that was Xia Shishi’s own fault.
What Xia Shishi needed to do was to hold onto Wen Jiao and never let go again.
Xia Shishi’s hands trembled slightly. With red eyes, she wanted to call Wen Jiao, but couldn’t muster the courage.
Her voice was too hoarse right now; she couldn’t scare Jiao Jiao.
Tomorrow. She absolutely had to go see her tomorrow.
At worst, she’d just pretend she knew nothing! Xia Shishi looked firmly at her mother: “As long as I don’t agree to break off the engagement, everything will be fine, right? I’ve been shouting about breaking off the engagement for so long; it should be Jiao Jiao’s turn to say it, but I will go and earn her forgiveness.”
Her parents had done enough for her in this matter. Xia Shishi wasn’t going to burden her mother anymore.
She had to face it herself.
She had to look at Jiao Jiao and say ‘I like you’ over and over again, until Jiao Jiao believed her.
In the bedroom.
“That’s how things are.” At the other end of the phone was the troubled voice of Xia’s Mother.
Even though Xia Shishi had tried to stop her, Xia’s Mother still made the call.
That was her precious daughter; how could she bear to watch her cry?
Children are a burden of love.
The emotions in Wen Jiao’s eyes were complicated and obscure. The slender fingers gripping the phone were excessively pale, making Wen Jiao appear even more clear and gentle, like moonlight, in the dim room.
Wen Jiao was used to being silent and rarely spoke.
But precisely when she didn’t speak, there was a sense of pressure, even across the phone line.
Xia’s Mother wasn’t exactly intimidated, but since the matter concerned Xia Shishi, her guilt put her at a disadvantage. Xia’s Mother struggled to persuade her: “Shishi was just immature before, throwing a girl’s temper tantrum. She was so upset when she heard about breaking off the engagement that she cried.”
So, when Xia Shishi rushes over to see her tomorrow, could she… perhaps be gentle with her?
Even if she was truly determined, could she at least speak more tactfully?
Xia’s Mother sighed.
“I genuinely hoped you two could be together back then.” Xia’s Mother sounded a little weary. “You know what kind of little girl Shishi is. I was at ease entrusting her to you.”
“I know.” Wen Jiao lowered her head slightly, scanning the screen in front of her.
On the screen was a photo of Xia Shishi, and as she scrolled down, there was another one.
Xia Shishi liked to post all sorts of photos on social media: today she traveled to which country, tomorrow she was going to a boutique for a new style, and the day after she planned to go to a concert with classmates to chase a celebrity.
Her life was rich and colorful, and she rarely worried about trivial things.
She had been nurtured very well.
That’s why her smile was sincere, pure, and brilliant.
Wen Jiao gazed at the photos, becoming lost in thought. She closed her laptop and covered her eyes.
If she kept looking, she would be even more reluctant to let go.
Xia Shishi always managed to catch Wen Jiao off guard. Before the engagement party, her intense resistance caused Wen Jiao to suffer half a month of insomnia, constantly feeling anxious and worried.
Just when Wen Jiao finally decided to set her free, the girl cried sorrowfully and confessed her love.
Should she believe it?
A hint of complexity flashed across Wen Jiao’s dark eyes.
She would believe it.
“If she comes tomorrow.” I’m really looking forward to her coming.
“Then I will talk to her properly.” I will also really hope she has genuinely had a change of heart.
“Let’s reconsider the matter of breaking off the engagement later.”
Wen Jiao’s fingers slightly shook as she spoke, finding it more difficult than Xia’s Mother.
Xia’s Mother breathed a sigh of relief: “I’ve put you in a tough spot.”
“It’s not a tough spot.”
The next morning.
A figure was pacing back and forth outside Wen Jiao’s room door.
Wen Jiao was easily awakened by the slightest sound. Even with excellent soundproofing, she could sense someone passing by her door.
That’s why no servant would tactlessly pass by Wen Jiao’s room before nine o’clock.
Wen Jiao usually wakes up around six or seven, and any extra time she spends resting is because her family also hopes she can sleep a bit longer.
Wen Jiao kept her eyes open, listening carefully to the footsteps.
She would walk two steps, stop at the door, and then walk two steps again.
Such hesitation could only belong to Xia Shishi; everyone else would have been stopped.
Xia Shishi hadn’t slept well all night either, and her eyes were still red. She had carefully applied makeup, blending the red of her eyes with the makeup, making her look captivating.
She was more beautiful than a peach blossom, almost mesmerizing.
When Xia Shishi finally summoned the courage to push the door open and saw the person inside, the peach blossom luster faded.
Xia Shishi pursed her lips: “Good morning, Jiao Jiao.”
Wen Jiao paused for a few seconds, then nodded.
Xia Shishi moved closer, trying to make conversation: “Are you reading?”
She looked at the book title, The Island Garden.
Xia Shishi: “Do you want to go on a vacation to an island?”
Wen Jiao closed the book. Xia Shishi also saw the author’s name and realized the matter was not so simple.
They were a little speechless.
Xia Shishi still couldn’t act like she did yesterday. She was hiding many things in her heart, didn’t dare to ask, and couldn’t shamelessly pretend that nothing was wrong.
When she didn’t speak, Wen Jiao waited for a long time before finally breaking the silence: “What did you buy while shopping yesterday?”
Xia Shishi’s eyes instantly lit up: “You want to know?”
Wen Jiao wasn’t very curious, but seeing Xia Shishi’s reaction, she thought for a moment and nodded.
“Then I’ll push you out!” Xia Shishi quickly said, “I asked the doctor when I came, and he said you can leave the room today. I put all the things in the living room. I’ll take you to see them now.”
Xia Shishi seemed very impatient.
Wen Jiao was sitting on the bed and needed someone to lift her onto the wheelchair.
Wen Jiao didn’t like to be touched, so she usually pushed the wheelchair next to the bed and used her crutches to brace herself and sit down.
But today, Xia Shishi was one step ahead, wrapping her arm around Wen Jiao’s waist.
Wen Jiao, wearing only a thin layer of pajamas, instantly tensed up. She grabbed Xia Shishi’s hand, pushed her away, and her voice became cold: “I can sit by myself.”
“…I.” Xia Shishi stood there in panic, her eyes staring blankly at Wen Jiao, looking as if she was about to cry again.
The feeling of being rejected was awful, and the person rejecting her was Wen Jiao.
The Wen Jiao who once loved and doted on her, who would secretly resolve everything no matter what Xia Shishi did, not wanting Xia Shishi to even know, only quietly protecting her.
Such a gentle person was now speaking to Xia Shishi with a cold voice.
In this instant, it felt like falling from heaven into hell.
She really doesn’t like me anymore. This was the only thought Xia Shishi could form. Tears welled up in her eyes again, and then she spoke recklessly: “I have to hold you. We haven’t broken off the engagement yet, I’m your wife, what’s wrong with me taking care of you!”
Having said that, Xia Shishi placed her hand on Wen Jiao’s lower back again.
The girl’s body was warm, and so were her hands. When they made contact with Wen Jiao’s slightly cooler body temperature, a slight movement could cause a large patch of goosebumps to rise on the area being touched.
Wen Jiao gripped the bed, her eyes lowered as she looked at Xia Shishi’s frail arms.
She even stretched her other hand toward the crook of Wen Jiao’s knee, genuinely intending to rely on her own strength to lift Wen Jiao onto the wheelchair.
She couldn’t help but fall into Wen Jiao’s arms with every effort, but after getting up, she intended to try again.
Wen Jiao’s grip loosened.
Her mind constantly replayed Xia Shishi’s earlier sentence.
“I’m your wife, what’s wrong with me taking care of you.”
Wen Jiao grabbed Xia Shishi’s hand: “Do you really plan to marry me?”
When that sentence came out, Xia Shishi completely let go of all the strength in her body.
“Yes.” Xia Shishi couldn’t stop her tears from falling, her expression forlorn. “Jiao Jiao, if I told you that someone had been badmouthing you to me, which made me misunderstand you, would you forgive me?”
“I regret it so much, truly.” Xia Shishi had been reflecting on herself before her rebirth, and hadn’t stopped after her rebirth.
Unlike the regret before her rebirth, the current Xia Shishi had the chance to speak with Wen Jiao face-to-face.
She didn’t say it in the previous two days because she was afraid Wen Jiao would think she was foolish and wouldn’t like her anymore if she knew.
That’s why Xia Shishi focused all her energy on trying to help Wen Jiao.
She planned to go to her parents’ company to work and gain experience.
She also started trying to take care of people.
Xia Shishi intended to nervously hide her worries and present her best side to Wen Jiao.
But then Wen Jiao mentioned breaking off the engagement, and Xia Shishi realized suddenly.
Whether Wen Jiao still liked her or not, Xia Shishi didn’t want to leave Wen Jiao.
It wasn’t just coveting her goodness; rather, she had truly come to like Wen Jiao.
“I know you are very good now, Jiao Jiao.” Xia Shishi sniffled. “Please believe me, I really like you, I’m not going to leave. Just let me stay.”
Wen Jiao was still holding Xia Shishi’s hand, but dared not use force.
Would she believe Xia Shishi’s words?
Yes.
Even if they were lies, Wen Jiao would believe them, as long as Xia Shishi said she wouldn’t leave, Wen Jiao would believe her.
