After My Death, I Became a Heartless Madman - Chapter 39.3
Lu Qi stood motionless, her beautiful eyes fixed unblinkingly on Song Shizhou.
They called her “Miss Chen.”
Miss Chen.
Lu Qi let out a soft laugh.
She thought the name sounded lovely.
The words “Miss Chen” seemed to carry some kind of magic. Apologies and remorse that had once been impossible to obtain now came effortlessly. Song Shizhou felt an unreal, dreamlike sensation wash over her. She lifted her head and spoke coolly.
“Get out.”
“All of you, get out.”
Seeing her anger, Lu Qi nearly laughed.
She whispered into Father Lu’s ear,
“Dad, she told us all to get out.”
“You should be grateful it was Chairman Chen who caught you today. If it had been your precious daughter, Song Shizhou, you and my little brother…”
“Would only meet again in the afterlife.”
Father Lu was stunned by Lu Qi’s words.
Chen Ting spoke indifferently.
“Secretary Sun, escort them out.”
“Yes, Chairman Chen.”
Secretary Sun gave Song Shizhou another deep look.
“Miss Chen.”
Song Shizhou paused.
“I don’t like that title. From now on, call me Miss Song.”
The Lu family was led away by Secretary Sun, awaiting the long-overdue judgment.
Song Shizhou’s lips curved slightly.
But if something unexpected were to happen before the verdict…
Well, that was anyone’s guess.
Chen Ting affectionately wrapped her arm around Song Shizhou’s shoulder, seemingly displeased with Secretary Sun’s remarks.
“Alright, from now on, everyone can still call you Miss Song, or whatever you prefer, Shizhou as long as it makes you happy.”
“I only want you to be happy.”
Song Shizhou deliberately avoided looking at her face.
Lan Chi was soon brought in by several bodyguards.
“It was Lan Chi who told me about your existence.”
Back then, Song Lanyi and Chen Ting had willingly bonded, but later, Song Lanyi resented Chen Ting for turning her from an Alpha into an Omega, causing her status in the Song family to plummet. She had never once told Chen Ting about Song Shizhou’s whereabouts.
Of course, Chen Ting had suspected. Poor Feng Yu, still so young, had no idea how many tubes of blood had been drawn from her to verify her identity. But Feng Yu was, after all, the child of the Lu family couple, so of course, nothing came of it.
Chen Ting had grown disheartened, and in recent years, she had completely given up hope. Faced with the results, she could only believe Song Lanyi’s words.
Chen Ting spoke softly,
“Otherwise, perhaps I would never have met you in this lifetime.”
The handcuffs on Lan Chi’s wrists were removed by Secretary Sun. The special material had left a circle of red marks on her wrists, the glaring red standing out starkly against her well-defined bones, creating a bizarre yet striking beauty like a powerful beast being caged.
Song Shizhou still remembered the words Lan Chi had said to her before leaving,
“Shizhou, if I survive, I’ll repay you once.”
She hadn’t expected that “once” would come so soon.
Song Shizhou let out a light laugh.
“What were the test results? I’d like to see.”
Secretary Sun handed her a medical report.
Song Shizhou skimmed through it, the page was crammed with tiny characters.
It basically confirmed that the blood types matched perfectly.
Chen Ting held her in her arms.
“I’ve wronged you.”
“You don’t like being called Miss Chen, and I agree, it doesn’t sound nice. Shizhou is such a beautiful name. You can have people call you whatever you want.”
“And as for the Council’s duties, if you don’t want to be involved, I’ll fully respect your choice.”
“Shizhou, everything I can give you now is purely compensation.”
And compensation doesn’t require repayment.
Song Shizhou suddenly felt a little dazed.
A familiar scent of grass and wood enveloped her. Lan Chi stood behind her, whispering in her ear,
“Shizhou, can I hug you?”
Such a random question, completely out of the blue, yet Song Shizhou found herself nodding instinctively.
The next second, Lan Chi had already embraced her.
A warm hug, one she had experienced many times in Flying Bird Town. But this time, it inexplicably made her want to cry.
She heard Lan Chi say, “I’m sorry.”
Song Shizhou suddenly felt uneasy.
She pulled away from Lan Chi’s embrace. No wonder she couldn’t smell Lan Chi’s pheromones. No wonder Lan Chi had instinctively hesitated when Emigna was mentioned.
So, she was Emigna too.
Lan Chi said nothing, her bangs casting a shadow over her forehead.
Chairman Chen clapped her hands, and someone else was brought in.
Madam Song Lanyi should be glad she wasn’t invited by the Council today otherwise, the scene would have turned ugly.
Song Nianchu could barely stand. With great effort, he made his way to Song Shizhou.
“Sister! Oh, no.”
“Miss Chen, hello.”
His tone was earnest.
“When we were in the Song family, as your younger brother, I did many things wrong. Sister, I’m sorry.”
Song Nianchu cautiously lifted her eyelids,
“Ever since you returned to the Song family, you’ve always been kind to me. It’s me, it’s my fault. I’ve always treated you with hostility. I know you might not forgive me, but…”
“We both share mother’s blood sister, please don’t let Chairman Chen.”
Song Nianchu knelt before her, weeping bitterly,
“Miss Chen, sister.”
“You never wanted to call me sister before,”
Song Shizhou said indifferently.
The title of “sister” apart from when six-year-old Song Nianchu was forced by Madam Song Lanyi to call her that upon their first meeting had never been uttered again.
Perhaps it was the innate malice of children, or simply not wanting their mother’s attention divided,
Secretary Sun coughed lightly.
Song Fengyu grabbed Song Nianchu by the collar,
“Stand properly!”
Despite such a sincere apology, Song Shizhou didn’t even glance at him from start to finish, as if their very presence would dirty her eyes.
“You may leave.”
Song Nianchu, as if granted amnesty, quickly scurried to the corner.
Song Fengyu still hesitated where she stood. She wasn’t as emotional as Song Nianchu, but upon closer inspection, her hands trembled silently.
“Miss Chen, congratulations on finding your true family.”
“Shizhou, may I still call you that?”
Song Shizhou paused. “Of course.”
Song Fengyu embraced her.
“No matter what you choose to do, at this moment, I genuinely feel happy for you.”
Song Shizhou nodded.
Perhaps Shizhou had always possessed this noble lineage.
Did that mean.
she hadn’t stolen her life?
This thought was too maddening. A convicted criminal could never remove their shackles; over time, the prisoner’s body would fuse with the chains.
If those shackles could be removed, would she no longer have a reason to exist?
Song Shizhou didn’t know what she was thinking. Chairman Chen looked up and ordered someone to carry the crumpled Song Nianchu away.
“I don’t want too many people knowing about this,”
Song Shizhou said.
“Especially Madam Song Lanyi.”
Chen Ting froze.
“Understood.”
“If Madam Song Lanyi or any other members of the Song family learn of this,”
Secretary Sun said with a smile,
“Miss Song, we’ll have to settle accounts with you, your brother, and your mother, Madam Song Lanyi.”
Song Fengyu hesitated.
“I understand.”
With that, she led Song Nianchu away.
The small room where the Lu family was detained wasn’t far from the lounge. Through the reflection on the glass door, Lu Qi caught sight of Feng Yu’s face.
No wonder, they were truly family.
Feng Yu’s expression was inscrutable calm as still water, yet beneath it lurked treacherous whirlpools and reefs.
Mother Lu also noticed Feng Yu and rushed to the door, but Feng Yu had already walked away.
“Even Feng Yu looks like that.”
“It seems this time truly.”
No one could save them.
“As for the Council matters, if you wish to participate, Lan Chi can guide you through them.”
Song Shizhou nodded.
“The Council can wait. Let me, think first.”
Chen Ting smiled.
“That’s fine too. There’s plenty of time, no rush.”
“I’ve already bought the house you’re living in now. It’s my gift to you.”
“Shizhou, don’t refuse!”
She wanted to say “don’t refuse your mother’s kindness,” but ultimately swallowed those words.
Song Shizhou nodded. “Thank you.”
