After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 91
The wait didn’t last long before Jian Mo received a call from Butler Wu.
Ye Wenjin instinctively held her breath, not even daring to blink for fear of missing any information.
Jian Mo knew she wanted to listen too, so she turned up the volume slightly.
“Young Miss, you were right. We found Jian Li’s flight booking records at the airport. However, the flight she booked is about to depart soon, boarding will start shortly. I’m afraid we won’t make it in time to stop her.”
Hearing this, Ye Wenjin’s expression turned serious as well.
She knew that if they didn’t seize Jian Li now, once she made it abroad, it would be nearly impossible to bring her back to justice.
But with boarding imminent, stopping her in time would be extremely difficult.
Jian Mo, however, remained calm and collected, deep in thought.
“Call Officer Li and ask if there’s any way to delay the flight, even if it’s just for a little while. Tell her I have evidence proving Jian Li’s dangerous nature. If she escapes abroad, she’ll undoubtedly return to her old ways, making it even harder to hold her accountable.”
Though Butler Wu thought the chances were slim, she agreed to act immediately.
After hanging up, Jian Mo still seemed lost in thought.
Seeing this, Ye Wenjin asked worriedly, “Will this really work? That evidence… wasn’t it fake?”
Jian Mo raised an eyebrow. “Ah Jin knows?”
Ye Wenjin nodded. “I asked Aunt Wu. She said Jian Li had someone else take the fall for what happened back then, clearing her own name. And most of the evidence against her was destroyed, only what was needed to convict the scapegoat was left. It’s been so long… can we really find anything now?”
Jian Mo smiled. “Before, it would’ve been impossible. But now…”
Her gaze seemed to pierce through the car window, landing on something outside.
Ye Wenjin followed her line of sight and saw the woman who had kidnapped Jian Mo being escorted out of the abandoned building by the police.
The woman looked resentful, her eyes dark with frustration, but resigned now that she’d been caught.
Ye Wenjin blinked, suddenly understanding where Jian Mo’s so-called evidence would come from.
This woman had worked closely with Jian Li for years.
But people like them even as partners, always kept dirt on each other. Only mutual blackmail ensured long-term cooperation.
Had Jian Li not run into trouble, their partnership would’ve continued.
So when Jian Mo brought this up, the police immediately launched an investigation into the woman, discovering she was involved in something much bigger even illegal drug trafficking.
The reason certain drugs were banned was because society deemed them unacceptable. The substance used to prematurely induce Jian Mo’s heat cycle was one such drug, prompting the police to take the case seriously.
Time was tight, so while the woman was being interrogated, an emergency announcement suddenly played at the airport.
Due to weather conditions, flights would be delayed.
Passengers who had been ready to board began grumbling about their bad luck, while airport staff worked to placate them.
In reality, to avoid raising Jian Li’s suspicions, multiple flights not just hers were delayed under the pretense of special circumstances. Nearly all flights in that direction were affected.
Meanwhile, Jian Mo and Ye Wenjin were also rushing to the airport at top speed.
After handing over the interrogation of the woman to the police, they immediately drove to the airport.
At such a critical moment, Jian Mo didn’t want to leave everything entirely to the authorities. She wouldn’t feel at ease unless she saw Jian Li’s arrest with her own eyes.
Besides, Jian Li was far too vigilant. Someone needed to stall for time to prevent her from sensing anything amiss.
Initially, Jian Mo hadn’t planned to bring Ye Wenjin along. But before she could even speak, a single glance back revealed Ye Wenjin staring straight at her. Even without a word, the determination in her eyes was unmistakable.
Ye Wenjin was going, no matter what Jian Mo said. She wouldn’t let the other woman face danger alone again.
Her reasoning was simple: either they both lived, or they both died. There was no other option.
Seeing her resolve, Jian Mo hesitated for a moment before finally relenting. The two set off together and soon arrived at the airport.
Due to the holiday season, the airport was bustling with travelers. After meeting up with the undercover officers already stationed there, they took a special access route inside.
At first, the police refused Jian Mo’s request to enter. But she insisted, arguing that she could help delay Jian Li and prevent her from growing suspicious. After some deliberation, the authorities granted her permission.
Naturally, Ye Wenjin followed as well. Disguised as ordinary passengers, they entered the departure lounge together.
Once inside, they began searching for any sign of Jian Li, but she was nowhere to be found, even Yin Yu had vanished.
Alerted to the situation, the police quickly contacted their undercover officers and learned that, five minutes earlier, Jian Li and Yin Yu had entered the restroom and hadn’t come out yet.
Ye Wenjin exchanged a glance with Jian Mo, and without a word, they moved toward the restroom in silent understanding.
Just as they stepped inside, two strangers brushed past them on their way out.
Jian Mo’s nose twitched slightly before she suddenly turned around.
“Stop right there!”
The two figures paused, as if considering a run for it, but Jian Mo spoke coolly, “Do you really think you can escape?”
After a tense moment, the strangers slowly turned back. One of them pulled down their mask, revealing none other than Jian Li’s face.
She studied Jian Mo with a hint of approval in her eyes. “Momo, you truly are my daughter.”
There was no trace of urgency in her demeanor, no fear of impending capture. Instead, she looked at Jian Mo with amusement, as if admiring a promising successor.
Jian Mo scowled in disgust. “Don’t look at me with those disgusting eyes.”
Jian Li shrugged. “Daughters always get rebellious when they grow up. I understand.”
Jian Mo was sickened by her act, yet she couldn’t deny the shared blood between them only deepening her revulsion.
Noticing this, Ye Wenjin suddenly spoke up. “But Sister’s mother is Aunt Shen.”
The remark brought a faint smile to Jian Mo’s lips. “Exactly. I only have one mother. Ms. Jian, let’s not force a relationship where there isn’t one.”
Jian Li’s gaze shifted to Ye Wenjin, scrutinizing her openly. The intensity of her stare made Ye Wenjin deeply uncomfortable, but she didn’t back down, meeting it steadily.
Jian Li arched a brow in surprise. “I never expected a mere plaything to have such nerve.”
Jian Mo’s eyes turned icy. “She’s not a ‘thing,’ she’s my partner. Ms. Jian, watch your language.”
She then let out a mocking laugh. “I hope you can keep this attitude in the interrogation room.”
Jian Li feigned surprise. “Interrogation room? Why? I’m a law-abiding citizen. Why would I be interrogated for no reason?”
Jian Mo sneered. “Stop pretending. Have you forgotten what you’ve done in the past? You might have, but I haven’t. Besides, walls have ears, and no scheme is flawless. Care to guess how much evidence I have against you?”
Jian Li narrowed her eyes, her tone confident. “You have no evidence. You’re just bluffing. These are tricks I’ve long since abandoned, you’re not quite there yet, Mo Mo.”
Hearing her childhood nickname spoken by the other woman again, the coldness in Jian Mo’s eyes deepened. Yet she didn’t get angry. Instead, she curled her lips into a smile.
“Oh really?”
Jian Li’s composed expression finally cracked slightly at that.
Because Jian Mo looked far too calm, as if she truly held damning evidence, enough to convict her.
And Jian Li was naturally suspicious, so her mind raced with possibilities.
Truthfully, when she first broke free, Jian Li hadn’t planned to leave the country. But Yin Yu had persuaded her, saying there was more room to maneuver abroad.
Mainly because neither of them was clean, and staying in the country imposed too many restrictions.
After some thought, Jian Li agreed. Deep down, she never believed Jian Mo actually had evidence, but she saw no harm in playing along, she could even teach her a lesson before leaving.
But now, seeing Jian Mo standing before her unharmed, that woman must have been caught.
If that woman was interrogated and exposed her too…
Though that woman was foolish, she shouldn’t break so easily.
But one could never be sure.
Jian Li’s gaze flickered uncertainly. She couldn’t quite grasp the situation and had lost her earlier composure.
Meanwhile, Yin Yu, who had been observing quietly, suddenly spoke up. “They’re stalling for time.”
Jian Li turned to her.
Yin Yu’s expression was firm. “They’re just buying time. They don’t have the evidence yet.”
Jian Li’s eyes gleamed, and she suddenly laughed. “So that’s why the airport suddenly announced a delay, you’re behind this.”
Yin Yu glared fiercely. “We can’t waste any more time. We need to leave now.”
Even if their flight was delayed, they had other options. The best route now was by ship.
Originally, they had chosen the plane for speed, but with the airport under control, it wouldn’t reopen anytime soon. Their only choice now was to go by sea.
They truly couldn’t afford to linger.
With that in mind, Jian Li smiled at Jian Mo. “Goodbye, my dear daughter. I’ll come back to see you.”
As the two turned to leave, Jian Mo immediately moved to stop them, but Ye Wenjin grabbed her arm.
Jian Mo looked back at her and whispered urgently, “A-Jin? They can’t leave. The evidence from the interrogation isn’t ready yet. If they get away, it’ll be too late.”
Jian Mo was losing her cool.
Watching her enemies slip through her fingers, no one could stay calm in that situation.
But Ye Wenjin leaned closer and said softly, “Sister, don’t worry.”
Jian Mo paused, realization dawning. Her eyes brightened, and her urgency faded.
Meanwhile, Jian Li and Yin Yu were hurrying to leave the airport. However, just as they took the elevator down to the parking lot, they were suddenly surrounded by a group of police officers.
Realizing the dire situation, they wanted to flee but it was already too late. Reluctantly, they raised their hands in surrender.
In truth, while they were talking, Ye Wenjin had quietly received a message from Aunt Wu, informing her that the police had found evidence and were preparing to make an arrest. She was advised not to alert the suspects.
Ye Wenjin immediately decided to play along, letting Jian Li and Yin Yu believe that no evidence had been uncovered, luring them into walking straight into the trap.
Her plan succeeded, the two of them were finally caught.
