- Chapter 28 - As If You Wanted to Devour Me Whole
Although the shopping was done, Ye Wenjin glanced at the mountain of shopping bags and felt a bit overwhelmed.
She leaned in close to Jian Mo and whispered, “Sister, how are we going to carry all this? Will it even fit in the car?”
Jian Mo smiled. “We don’t have to carry it.”
Before Ye Wenjin could voice her confusion, a sales assistant approached them with a beaming smile. “Ladies, no need to worry. Our store offers delivery services. Just leave us your address, and we’ll have everything sent to your doorstep immediately.”
Ye Wenjin was taken aback, she hadn’t expected such a service.
After a brief hesitation, she asked, “Then, do you deliver to the neighboring city?”
The sales assistant didn’t even blink, maintaining her calm demeanor. “Of course, we do. Please rest assured, serving our esteemed guests is our duty.”
After all, this was all about sales performance hesitating for even a second would be disrespectful to her quota!
Still, the sales assistant couldn’t help but wonder why these two, who lived in the neighboring city, had come all the way here to shop. But such matters weren’t her business to pry into, so she merely suppressed her curiosity and waited patiently for them to provide the address.
Ye Wenjin looked at Jian Mo, she didn’t know the exact address of the villa.
With a faint smile, Jian Mo handed over a business card. “Contact her. My surname is Jian.”
The sales assistant took the card and noticed it was black with gold embossing, bearing only the name “Wu Mingyu” and a contact number, nothing else.
Nodding, the sales assistant tucked the card away. “Understood, Ms. Jian.”
And so, the mountain of shopping bags was finally taken care of.
Ye Wenjin let out a sigh of relief. She had been worrying earlier that the car might not have enough space for all the purchases, never imagining the store would offer home delivery.
Then again, it wasn’t surprising that this shop provided such a service. The clientele here was undoubtedly affluent, and Jian Mo had just bought an enormous amount in one go making her a VIP among VIPs.
As they left, Ye Wenjin saw all the sales assistants in the store busy packing the clothes they had purchased.
Looking at the endless array of new outfits, Ye Wenjin felt her breath grow light, her expression momentarily dazed.
To her, these clothes weren’t just new garments they felt more like Jian Mo’s redemption of her.
The shadows she had carried since childhood finally dissipated completely in this moment.
The clothes that had never truly been hers were left behind when she walked away from the Yin family, and she had taken only a handful with her. But now, she had more clothes than she could ever wear.
It was hard to describe what she was feeling right now. Ye Wenjin didn’t even know how to put it into words.
All she knew was that her heart felt full and warm, an inexplicable emotion swelling inside her, making her want to express it somehow.
So much so that when she looked at Jian Mo beside her, she felt as though she wanted…
To kiss her.
Ye Wenjin stood there in a daze, unconsciously swallowing hard.
When Jian Mo turned to look at her, she was met with Ye Wenjin’s shimmering gaze filled with affection and longing.
Jian Mo paused, her eyes turning meaningful. “Xiao Jin.”
Hearing her voice, Ye Wenjin snapped out of her trance and responded blankly, “What is it, sister?”
Jian Mo looked at her with amusement dancing in her eyes. “My good Xiao Jin, tell me, what were you just thinking about?”
Her voice was soft, yet filled with a tantalizing allure.
The moment Ye Wenjin heard it, her mind involuntarily began replaying what she had just been thinking about.
And with that recollection, a rising heat instantly flushed her face.
Unable to control herself, Ye Wenjin averted her gaze and instinctively shook her head, murmuring that it was nothing.
But Jian Mo didn’t believe her. She whispered, “Oh? Really nothing? But the way you were looking at me just now… as if you wanted to devour me.”
Ye Wenjin’s face burned even hotter. She glanced around nervously, afraid someone might overhear.
Even though Jian Mo’s voice was low, it rang like thunder in her ears. And Jian Mo was still smiling at her, smiling so brightly that Ye Wenjin felt steam practically rising from her head.
Unable to take it anymore, Ye Wenjin grabbed Jian Mo’s hand and quickly led her away from the bustling mall. She didn’t know where she was going, but she knew she couldn’t stay in such a crowded place.
Jian Mo didn’t resist, letting herself be pulled along.
The crowd around them gradually thinned, but Ye Wenjin didn’t notice, blindly dragging Jian Mo until she abruptly pushed open a fire exit door.
Bang!
A loud slam echoed, followed by complete silence.
Ye Wenjin snapped out of her daze, finally stopping as she realized where she had taken Jian Mo.
The fire escape stairwell was empty, and once the door closed, the silence was absolute there wasn’t a single soul around.
Ye Wenjin froze. Her intention had been to find a less crowded spot, but somehow, she had ended up here.
This wasn’t just “less crowded”, it was completely deserted.
Gulp.
She swallowed hard, then slowly turned her head to meet Jian Mo’s amused, knowing gaze.
“So Little Jin couldn’t wait, huh?”
Ye Wenjin’s heart skipped a beat. Flustered, she tried to explain, but the moment she opened her mouth, she stumbled over her words.
“N-no, I… ah, I didn’t… Sis, I just…”
After stammering incoherently for a while, Ye Wenjin grew increasingly frustrated. The more she tried to explain, the harder it became to speak.
Mainly because she didn’t even know why she had brought Jian Mo to this secluded place. And given the current situation, no matter how she tried to explain, it seemed like she had ulterior motives.
Ye Wenjin faltered.
Then, under Jian Mo’s patient gaze, she slowly lowered her head and mumbled an apology. “Sorry, Sis, I just wanted to find somewhere with fewer people.”
Jian Mo chuckled softly. “This place certainly fits the bill.”
Ye Wenjin fidgeted awkwardly with her fingers.
But Jian Mo took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
Caught off guard, Ye Wenjin’s breath hitched, her eyes widening slightly.
“Sis…?”
Jian Mo didn’t stop. The two drew closer and closer until Ye Wenjin could almost feel her faint breath.
“Little Jin,” Jian Mo murmured again, “what were you thinking about just now?”
Ye Wenjin’s face burned crimson. Instinctively, she wanted to say she hadn’t been thinking of anything but the moment she met Jian Mo’s gaze, the words that escaped her lips were:
“I was thinking… how much I wanted to kiss you, Sis.”
Jian Mo let out a low laugh. “Since Little Jin is being so honest, she deserves a reward, don’t you think?”
Before Ye Wenjin could even process her own embarrassment, her eyes slowly brightened at those words. “Sis?”
Jian Mo didn’t answer. She simply looked at her, luring her in, her red lips parting slightly.
Ye Wenjin nervously pursed her lips, yet her gaze remained fixed on Jian Mo’s mouth. Then, murmuring an apology, she leaned in without hesitation and kissed her.
This kiss had nothing to do with desire, yet it was deeply lingering.
In the quiet emergency stairwell, the only sounds were soft, wet smacks, thick with intimacy.
When the kiss finally ended, Ye Wenjin released the hand that had somehow found its way to the back of Jian Mo’s head.
Her eyes lowered, lingering on Jian Mo’s lips, her gaze hazy. Her fingers lightly traced the outline of her lips as she murmured in a slightly hoarse voice, “Sister, your lipstick is smudged.”
Jian Mo curled her lips in amusement. “Then, Xiao Jin, will you help me fix it?”
Ye Wenjin’s gaze remained fixed on those lips, the ones she had just marked.
They had kissed too fiercely.
A sudden wave of shyness washed over her, and she nodded softly. “O-okay, I’ll help you reapply it.”
As she spoke, Ye Wenjin instinctively pulled out her own lip gloss. The shade she carried was far bolder than the one Jian Mo usually wore, a deep cherry red.
It wasn’t until the first stroke had already touched Jian Mo’s lips that Ye Wenjin realized she was using her own.
Her hand paused mid-application. After a brief moment of stunned silence, she stammered, “Sister… I’m sorry, I forgot to ask. This is mine, should I wipe it off and use yours instead?”
Jian Mo arched a brow slightly, her tone gentle as she asked, “Can’t I use Xiao Jin’s lip gloss?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head vigorously. “Of course you can! I just, I was worried you might not be used to this shade.”
Jian Mo smiled. “It’s fine. I’d like to try the color you like. Later, I’ll help you apply mine, okay?”
Ye Wenjin’s hand trembled slightly as she nodded, feigning composure. “O-of course.”
So she carefully and meticulously applied her own lip gloss to Jian Mo’s lips. However, since Jian Mo usually preferred understated shades, she kept the application light.
Yet cherry red was an overpowering color, even a thin layer was far more vibrant than Jian Mo’s usual lipstick.
Once finished, Ye Wenjin studied her and found, to her surprise, that the shade suited Jian Mo perfectly. The change in color gave her an entirely different aura, a departure from her usual elegance.
Then, Jian Mo reciprocated by applying her own signature lipstick to Ye Wenjin. Her preference leaned toward soft, muted tones so subtle it almost looked like her natural lip color.
They had exchanged shades.
By the time they left the stairwell, Ye Wenjin could hardly contain the heat in her cheeks.
Especially when passing mirrors, her eyes would unconsciously dart to their reflections, lingering on their lips before she’d abruptly look away, as if burned.
Jian Mo noticed but pretended not to, though amusement flickered in her eyes.
The two strolled through the mall like any ordinary couple, drifting in and out of stores.
Most of the time, they bought nothing just wandered inside, browsed, and moved on to the next shop.
At first, Jian Mo, thinking Ye Wenjin was genuinely interested, nearly purchased everything she so much as glanced at until Ye Wenjin caught on and stopped her.
After quickly pulling her out of the store, Ye Wenjin whispered, “Sister, I really was just looking. Don’t you think this is fun?”
Jian Mo considered it for two seconds.
No, she didn’t.
Her usual principle was to buy whatever caught her eye. She didn’t understand the point of just looking without purchasing anything, nor did she see the meaning in doing so.
But Ye Wenjin seemed genuinely happy, she appeared to really enjoy sharing.
Under her guidance, Jian Mo discovered many interesting little trinkets some were pretty, some were fun, and some were just plain quirky.
These were things she would have never spared a glance at before. But because Ye Wenjin was so eager to share them with her, she began to take notice.
At first, she thought Ye Wenjin wanted to buy them, but it turned out she wasn’t interested in owning any of them, she simply found joy in the act of sharing.
Jian Mo didn’t quite understand what kind of joy Ye Wenjin found in it, but she seemed to grasp some meaning in the way Ye Wenjin so naturally shared her discoveries.
So she started trying to understand, willingly accompanying Ye Wenjin in uncovering these little curiosities.
Eventually, she stopped insisting on buying everything Ye Wenjin looked at. Instead, when she found something interesting, she would point it out to her as well.
Noticing the change in Jian Mo, Ye Wenjin’s eyes curved into crescents.
The two of them wandered leisurely like this, strolling until noon. After lunch, they drove to the theater.
The performance was scheduled for 2 p.m., so arriving after lunch was perfect timing.
By the time they reached the theater, ticket checks had already begun. The line was long, but since they had VIP seats, they could bypass the crowd and enter through the VIP passage.
Following the seat numbers on their tickets, they found their spots. Ye Wenjin took a moment to wipe the seats clean before letting Jian Mo sit down.
Jian Mo smiled and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “So thoughtful, Xiao Jin.”
Ye Wenjin smiled shyly and was about to sit when a familiar voice came from beside them. She turned and saw Rong Yunshu staring at her in surprise.
“It really is you, Wenjin! I thought I was mistaken.”
As Rong Yunshu spoke, her gaze flickered briefly to the figure beside Ye Wenjin before she quickly curved her lips into a smile. “Hello… Wenjin’s… sister.”
Ye Wenjin: “!”
