- After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love
- Chapter 18 - I'm Jian Mo, Ye Wenjin's, Family Member
Truth be told, after sending the message, Ye Wenjin hadn’t held much hope that Jian Mo would actually come, she seemed quite busy.
In her mind, the best-case scenario was that the other party would send someone over after learning about the situation.
But Jian Mo seemed intent on coming herself.
Ye Wenjin wanted to ask, but she hesitated, missing the best moment to inquire, and now she didn’t dare bring it up.
Her heartbeat quickened slightly as she stared at their chat interface on her phone, a mix of nervousness and uncertainty swirling inside her.
After rereading the messages for who-knows-how-many times, she finally turned off her screen and settled down, quietly waiting for Jian Mo’s arrival in the administrative office.
Meanwhile, when Rong Yunshu heard that parents were being called in, she stiffened. She absolutely dreaded the idea because if she called hers, there was a high chance her shameless older sister would mock her for the rest of her life.
But the dean’s expression brooked no refusal, and he was still muttering under his breath, furious about their public display of pheromone confrontation. Even though she and Ye Wenjin weren’t the main instigators, the fact remained that all three of them had resorted to using pheromones. The dean deemed the incident serious enough that it couldn’t just be brushed aside.
Of course, since the primary offender was from another school, the dean’s wrath was currently more directed at Yin Feifei.
Unable to contain his anger, the dean immediately made a call, sneering throughout the conversation, his words dripping with sarcasm aimed at the person on the other end.
It seemed he had already locked horns with the teacher from the neighboring school.
Watching this unfold, Rong Yunshu reluctantly decided to call her family not because she was afraid of being scolded by the dean, but because she was worried he might strain his voice from talking too much, and getting too worked up wasn’t good for his health.
The tragic part, however, was that the only person available at home was her sister.
Upon receiving this devastating news, Rong Yunshu squeezed her eyes shut in despair.
Only after finishing her argument with her sister did she finally put down her phone, exhausted. But when she turned her head, she noticed Ye Wenjin fidgeting uneasily, looking troubled even slightly anxious upon closer inspection.
It suddenly occurred to Rong Yunshu that Ye Wenjin had a strained relationship with her family, so being forced to call a guardian must be particularly difficult for her.
After a pause, Rong Yunshu leaned over and whispered, “What’s on your mind? Did you tell your family?”
What she really wanted to ask was whether Ye Wenjin’s family would even show up, but that didn’t seem like the right way to phrase it.
Ye Wenjin didn’t pick up on the subtext, though. She just sighed softly and nodded. “Yeah, I told them.”
Seeing her distracted demeanor, Rong Yunshu made an educated guess and quietly reassured her, “Don’t be upset. This wasn’t really our fault to begin with. That outsider will probably get disciplinary action, from the looks of it.”
Ye Wenjin couldn’t care less about what punishment Yin Feifei might face. Even Rong Yunshu’s words sounded muffled, as if coming through a barrier because her mind was still stuck on the fact that she had somehow ended up calling Jian Mo as her guardian.
There was an inexplicable sense of embarrassment to it.
Misinterpreting her silence, Rong Yunshu assumed Ye Wenjin hadn’t been able to get a family member to come and was upset about it.
She was just about to say, If your family can’t make it, it’s fine, my sister can act as a guardian for both of us.
But before the words could leave her mouth, the dean abruptly hung up the phone, looking thoroughly refreshed apparently having won the verbal battle.
His combat skills were truly impressive. Rong Yunshu suddenly felt relieved she hadn’t spoken up.
The dean glanced at the two of them, giving them a once-over before her gaze settled on Ye Wenjin.
“Just presented?”
Ye Wenjin nodded nervously. “Yes, Dean.”
The dean stroked her chin. “A secondary presentation? How rare.”
Then she turned to Rong Yunshu, her tone shifting. “It’s one thing for her to be unfamiliar with her pheromones after a secondary presentation, but you, an Alpha who’s been presented for so long, how could you be so careless?”
“Thankfully nothing serious happened. If it had, even if it wasn’t your fault, you wouldn’t have gotten off scot-free.”
Rong Yunshu, who had just been relieved she hadn’t been called out earlier: “…”
So she hadn’t escaped the lecture after all.
With an inward sigh, Rong Yunshu admitted her mistake with impeccable sincerity. “I’m sorry, Dean. The situation was urgent that student from another school was misusing her pheromones and even tried to attack us. I only retaliated because I was afraid things would escalate.”
The dean snorted. “If that weren’t the case, do you think calling your parents would’ve been the only consequence?”
Rong Yunshu: “…”
Fair enough.
Throughout it all, Ye Wenjin remained obedient, listening to the dean’s lecture while stealing glances at Rong Yunshu’s increasingly vacant expression. She couldn’t help but feel a little amused.
Fortunately, the lecture didn’t last too long, as the office door was suddenly knocked on. Ye Wenjin’s heart skipped a beat as she turned her head nervously toward the door.
But the person who entered wasn’t Jian Mo instead, it was a woman who looked, cool?
Her outfit was full of artistic flair, her hair meticulously braided into two plaits intertwined with silver threads, giving off a sweet yet edgy vibe.
Both the dean and Ye Wenjin were taken aback by her appearance.
Then, the woman’s eyes lit up the moment she spotted Rong Yunshu. “Heh, Yunshu, Yunshu. So even you have a day when you get called in for a parent-teacher meeting?”
Rong Yunshu averted her gaze, refusing to look at her.
The dean frowned in confusion. “And you are?”
The woman smiled brightly. “Hello, Professor. I’m Rong Yunshu’s older sister, Rong Yunjuan.”
Rong Yunshu quickly added, “Everyone else in my family is away on business. Only my sister was available.”
The implication was clear, if there had been anyone else, she wouldn’t have called her sister.
Rong Yunjuan raised an eyebrow but didn’t elaborate.
In truth, their mothers had found the whole thing embarrassing and didn’t want to come, so they’d sent her instead.
But there was no need to tell Rong Yunshu that.
Poor Yunshu, played like a fiddle by her own mothers.
Rong Yunjuan’s gaze turned pitying though she tried to hide it, Rong Yunshu still noticed. She instinctively sensed something was off, but no matter how she thought about it, nothing seemed amiss. Suspicious, she narrowed her eyes at her sister.
Rong Yunjuan simply smiled.
An older sister still counted as a guardian, after all. So the dean invited her into the office.
But before she could say anything else, the door was knocked on again, diverting everyone’s attention. The dean paused mid-step, turning on her heel to answer it.
The moment the door opened, Ye Wenjin suddenly locked eyes with Jian Mo, her heart pounding wildly.
Her sister had really come!
Then, overcome with guilt, she lowered her head.
Seeing how young the newcomer looked, the dean was once again taken aback. “And you are?”
Jian Mo glanced at Ye Wenjin, who was staring at the floor, and replied calmly, “Hello, I’m Jian Mo. Ye Wenjin’s family.”
The dean nodded in understanding. “Ah, I see. Another sister, then?”
Jian Mo smiled faintly, her eyes still on Ye Wenjin. “Yes. Her sister.”
Her tone was lingering, especially those last two words. The moment Ye Wenjin heard them, the heat in her face surged abruptly, and she suddenly clenched her hands.
It just felt, so incredibly embarrassing.
