After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 5
Sitting at the bubble tea shop was getting boring, so Jiang Wanwan suggested going to the mall to shop.
As soon as they stepped out of the shop, they ran into Wen Xiangzhu and Lu Xiaomeng.
“Um… what a coincidence,” Jiang Wanwan said, startled. She stared at Wen Xiangzhu in surprise. “Wen Xiangzhu? What are you doing here?”
“I’m out with a classmate,” Wen Xiangzhu replied softly, her gaze drifting toward Lin Sui.
Realizing what was happening, Jiang Wanwan quickly introduced them. “Oh, Sister Sui, this is Wen Xiangzhu, a former classmate of mine.”
“Wenwen, this is Lin Sui. I mentioned before that I have a fiancée, and that’s her.”
Wen Xiangzhu pressed her lips together, her gaze shifting between Lin Sui and Jiang Wanwan.
“Sister Sui? Fiancée?”
Jiang Wanwan blinked, hesitating. “You… can call her that too, if Sister Sui doesn’t mind,” she said, smiling and tilting her head. She turned to look at Lin Sui.
Lin Sui arched an eyebrow, her gaze growing slightly suspicious. Still, her expression remained calm. “If Wanwan doesn’t mind, then neither do I.”
With that, Jiang Wanwan burst into a delighted laugh.
Wen Xiangzhu’s expression was strained, her lips twitching slightly. “But you’re not engaged yet, are you? So you can’t really be called his fiancée.”
Hearing this, Lu Xiaomeng tugged anxiously at Wen Xiangzhu’s sleeve from the side, whispering urgently, “Wenwen!”
Lin Sui watched Wen Xiangzhu for a moment, then chuckled softly and waved her hand. “It’s alright. Wenwen’s right. I misspoke.”
She tugged at Lin Sui’s sleeve. “But Sister Sui wouldn’t mind, would she? It’s bound to happen sooner or later, right, Sister Sui?”
Sensing the tug on her wrist, Lin Sui paused, feeling suddenly uneasy. She subtly evaded Jiang Wanwan’s touch. “Mm, it’s a minor thing. It doesn’t matter to me.”
Her gaze shifted to Wen Xiangzhu, her eyes unconsciously darkening.
Wen Xiangzhu averted her gaze from where Jiang Wanwan had been pulling at Lin Sui’s sleeve. Smiling normally, she stepped forward and took Jiang Wanwan’s hand. “Wanwan, it’s been so long since we last saw each other. I missed you. Today’s the perfect opportunity to catch up properly.”
Turning to Lu Xiaomeng, she added, “Mengmeng, aren’t you feeling unwell? If you’re not feeling well, you should go back and rest. Wanwan will take care of me.”
Lu Xiaomeng was momentarily stunned, but quickly snapped out of it and nodded vigorously. “Oh, right, I am feeling a bit unwell. I started feeling dizzy not long after I left home… I’ll head back now. You guys enjoy your time!”
With that, she turned and hurried away, disappearing around the corner in no time.
Meanwhile, Jiang Wanwan hadn’t noticed anything amiss with Wen Xiangzhu’s soft request and readily agreed. But then she remembered Lin Sui and murmured, “Sister Sui, Wenwen and I haven’t seen each other in ages. If you’re not feeling well…”
“I’m fine,” Lin Sui replied, her expression calm as she glanced at Wen Xiangzhu. “If Wanwan wants to take her along, let her.”
And so, the three of them set off together.
From the start, Wen Xiangzhu had been clinging to Jiang Wanwan, walking ahead of her. Lin Sui trailed behind, her gaze occasionally lingering on the back of Wen Xiangzhu’s head, her mind filled with suspicion.
What is this girl up to? But…
Wen Xiangzhu’s loose hair framed a small beige butterfly bow at her ear.
She looks quite pretty like that.
As Lin Sui pondered this, Jiang Wanwan suddenly stopped and turned around. “Sister Sui, what do you think?”
“Huh? What?” Lin Sui snapped out of her thoughts, looking at her in mild confusion.
Jiang Wanwan gave a delicate huff. “You weren’t even listening… I was telling Wenwen I wanted to go to the movies and asked for your opinion.”
She pointed to the nearby theater.
“I’m fine with that,” Lin Sui said, withdrawing her gaze.
Having reached a consensus, the group walked up to the ticket counter.
Seeing Jiang Wanwan and Wen Xiangzhu already buying tickets, Lin Sui glanced around and headed toward the popcorn machine.
“Two buckets of popcorn and three drinks…”
She paused, remembering that Wen Xiangzhu was in her estrus period, and corrected herself: “One cola and two hot milk teas.”
Meanwhile, Wen Xiangzhu looked at the adjacent seats they’d purchased and tugged at Jiang Wanwan’s arm. “Wanwan, do you really know that Alpha’s character?”
“Well… she seems nice enough.”
Wen Xiangzhu shook her head. “What if she turns out to be bad news and tries to grope you in the dark?”
Jiang Wanwan pondered this. “It doesn’t matter. We’re getting married anyway…”
“Absolutely not!” Wen Xiangzhu interrupted urgently.
Jiang Wanwan blinked in confusion at her strong reaction. “What’s wrong? You don’t like her?”
Realizing she’d overreacted, Wen Xiangzhu pursed her lips. “I’m worried about you. You shouldn’t sit together today. Let me protect you.”
Jiang Wanwan chuckled softly, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair that had fallen across Wen Xiangzhu’s chest. “Wenwen, you’re so adorable.”
Under Wen Xiangzhu’s earnest gaze, she nodded after a moment. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
“Wenwen, you have to protect me!”
At that moment, Lin Sui remained unaware of the silent agreement the two Omegas had reached.
When they arrived at the theater, their popcorn and drinks were just ready.
Lin Sui grabbed her soda. “Those two bubble teas are for you.”
“Why are you different from us?” Wen Xiangzhu asked, blinking.
“Of course I’m different from you two,” Lin Sui replied with a raised eyebrow. “Alright, let’s grab our stuff and go inside.”
Holding the bucket of popcorn in one hand and her soda in the other, Lin Sui followed the two women into the theater.
Their seats were right in the middle. But as they settled in, Lin Sui realized something felt off.
Out of the three seats, she was sitting on the very edge, and instead of Jiang Wanwan beside her, it was Wen Xiangzhu…
Wen Xiangzhu sat in the middle, separating Lin Sui from Jiang Wanwan.
Seeing this, Lin Sui was completely baffled, unsure of what was going on.
Normally, given Jiang Wanwan’s personality, she would definitely want to sit next to Lin Sui. Could she have suddenly changed her ways?
However, Lin Sui said nothing.
As the movie began, the lights in the theater dimmed.
The film was a romance. Lin Sui chewed on her soda straw, watching, and found it surprisingly dull.
She still preferred more thrilling plots.
Just as she reached for the popcorn on the armrest, the warm, soft sensation under her fingertips made her pause.
Turning her head, she met Wen Xiangzhu’s gaze, which had also turned toward her.
Her eyes were moist, glistening with tears under the faint light from the screen.
Seeing this, Lin Sui quickly withdrew her hand and averted her gaze, feigning calm.
“I accidentally touched you.”
“Mm.”
Wen Xiangzhu’s nose was slightly red as she hummed in acknowledgment and popped a piece of popcorn into her mouth.
A faint, lingering scent filled the air. On the screen, the main characters were sharing an intimate kiss. Lin Sui lowered her head, her gaze settling on her hand—the one that had inadvertently brushed against Wen Xiangzhu earlier. A flicker of something stirred in her eyes, and she found herself lost in thought.
A strange burning sensation tingled at her fingertips, spreading like ants crawling up to her ears, leaving a restless, prickling feeling in its wake.
Coming back to her senses, she pinched her fingers, picked up her soda, and took a sip, forcing down the restlessness. Only then did her mind clear slightly.
She had already experienced one rut this year. She shouldn’t be feeling this strange sensation.
When the movie ended and the theater lights came on, Lin Sui snapped out of her daze and straightened her clothes.
Two hours of sitting had left her with a sore back and an aching body. Now that it was finally over, she felt a sense of relief.
“It’s so heart-wrenching. Why do they have to suffer so much? Why couldn’t they have a happy ending?”
“Exactly! They clearly love each other—why must they be separated?”
Lin Sui paused, turning to look at Wen Xiangzhu and Jiang Wanwan, who were still lost in the movie’s drama.
“How come you’re crying too?” she asked Jiang Wanwan.
Jiang Wanwan looked up at Lin Sui, her eyes red and puffy. Perhaps reminded of the film’s scenes, she pursed her lips and began to sob again.
“They… waaah… The main characters had such a tragic fate!”
Lin Sui: “……”
By the time they left the mall, night had almost fallen.
Lin Sui glanced at the sky. “Wanwan, it’s getting late. I’ll take you home.”
“No need. My driver is waiting for me in the garage across the street. But Wenwen…”
Jiang Wanwan took Wen Xiangzhu’s hand. “Sister Sui, I don’t feel comfortable letting Wenwen go home alone. Could you please take her home?”
As the words faded, Lin Sui’s expression shifted imperceptibly.
Seeing Jiang Wanwan’s pleading gaze, she sighed, a pang of guilt stirring within her. “Alright, no problem. Just relax.”
Jiang Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. “That’s good.”
Still worried about Jiang Wanwan being alone, Lin Sui escorted her to the garage, only letting go after watching her drive away.
In the empty garage, Lin Sui waited until the car’s engine sound faded before turning to Wen Xiangzhu, her gaze sharp and accusatory. “Well? What exactly are you trying to pull?”
Wen Xiangzhu seemed caught off guard by the question, her face paling. “What do you mean, ‘what am I trying to pull’? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Don’t you know what I mean?” Lin Sui frowned.
Wen Xiangzhu stared blankly for a moment, looking wronged. “I really don’t understand what you’re talking about…”
Lin Sui scoffed. “Fine, don’t admit it. Whatever.”
“Sister,” Wen Xiangzhu said, meeting her gaze. “Why haven’t you told Wanwan about our relationship?”
Hearing this, Wen Xiangzhu’s expression stiffened. “There’s no ‘we’ between us.”
“No ‘we’?” Wen Xiangzhu murmured, her eyelashes trembling slightly, looking somewhat dazed.
Lin Sui remained unfazed. “The marriage between the Jiang and Lin families has been arranged for a long time. I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but I advise you not to interfere or do anything harmful to the Lin family.”
“And if I do?” Wen Xiangzhu asked softly.
Lin Sui paused. “Then I’ll have no choice but to kick you out.”
When Lin Sui returned home, it had started raining outside.
After taking a shower, she dried her hair while replying to Zhu Huan’s message on her phone.
Zhu Zhu Zhu: Have you seen the class group chat? Some classmates are talking about going to the new amusement park during the break and wondering if we should form a group.
[Not interested.] Lin Sui sat on her bed, wrapping herself in a blanket.
That romance movie today made me sleepy, but Jiang Wanwan and Wen Xiangzhu were both sobbing uncontrollably.
[Wishing, Wishing, Wishing: “Is this how all Omegas are? I understand.”]
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Lin Sui glanced toward the door. “Who is it?”
“It’s me, Sister,” Wen Xiangzhu’s voice came from outside.
Lin Sui put down her phone with suspicion and got up to open the door.
“What do you want?”
Wen Xiangzhu had already bathed and changed into pale pink silk pajamas. She stood outside, holding a rabbit plushie and looking very obedient.
“Sister, I’m a little scared.”
“Hmm?” Lin Sui was taken aback. “What are you scared of?”
Wen Xiangzhu pressed her red lips together, a pair of shallow dimples appearing at the corners of her mouth, but she didn’t answer directly. “Can I come in?”
This made Lin Sui laugh. “Wen Xiangzhu, can you understand the situation?”
“You’re an Omega, and you want to enter an Alpha’s room in the middle of the night. Do you think that’s appropriate?”
Wen Xiangzhu was silent for a moment. “I don’t care about that…”
“You don’t care about your own safety?” Lin Sui countered.
“No,” Wen Xiangzhu said, blinking as she looked up at Lin Sui. “I believe you wouldn’t hurt me, and even if… it’s you, it doesn’t matter.”
Lin Sui frowned deeply, taking a moment to understand the unspoken words. “No, I really don’t know what’s wrong with your head. Go back inside.”
Lin Sui moved to close the door.
Wen Xiangzhu frantically blocked the door, her voice trembling with tears. “Sister, it’s thundering. I’m scared to be alone…”
Lin Sui froze.
Thunder?
She turned and yanked open the curtains. Outside, the rain poured heavily, lightning flashing intermittently. Yet inside, she couldn’t hear any thunder.
“The windows are soundproof. Just close them tightly and draw the curtains shut.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she heard the bedroom door close.
