After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 13
Lin Sui was feeling utterly drained today, and with no way to rest during gym class, she could only sit on the steps, bored, and scroll through her phone.
She opened a short story and read it with rapt interest for a while.
I can’t help but fall for my own sister. I know it’s absurd—she’s an Alpha, and we live and eat together every day. It’s hard not to be attracted to her, but she seems to dislike me…
Lin Sui tried to ignore the strange feeling in her heart as she read, only to realize the story wasn’t finished. Worse still, it hadn’t been updated in two weeks.
******
Damn it.
She stepped into a huge pit.
At that moment, she heard Zhu Huan’s voice.
“You can’t even control the ball properly! What’s the point of playing basketball? Go home, wash up, and go to bed!”
It sounded like Zhu Huan was scolding the guys playing basketball nearby.
By the time Lin Sui put away her phone and strolled over, the guys had already apologized and left.
“What’s going on here?” Lin Sui asked curiously. “You were shouting so loudly I could hear you from far away.”
Zhu Huan huffed angrily and pulled her over to sit down. “Their basketball keeps coming onto the tennis court. Wen Xiangzhu almost got hit. What a bunch of noobs.”
Almost?
Lin Sui narrowed her eyes slightly and glanced toward the court. Wen Xiangzhu had just finished her tennis match and was resting, looking fine.
“Alright, it’s my turn now. I’m going to play.” Zhu Huan stood up and patted Lin Sui’s shoulder before heading onto the court.
Lin Sui glanced at her briefly before looking down and opening her phone again. For some reason, she clicked back to that novel and typed a comment:
When will the author update?
Thinking the message sounded too cold, she considered for a moment and softened it:
When will the author update, oh great author?
Perfect.
“Sister.”
Wen Xiangzhu had quietly approached Lin Sui.
Lin Sui stiffened, quickly turning off her screen. “Didn’t I tell you…” she began awkwardly.
“No one heard,” Wen Xiangzhu said, pursing her lips. “But if you’re really worried… can I call you Suisui?”
Lin Sui: “……?”
“What do you think?” Wen Xiangzhu asked with a smile. “I think it’s fine. You’re only a few months older than me anyway.”
Lin Sui remained silent, torn.
Seeing this, Wen Xiangzhu blinked. “If you don’t like it, I’ll just keep calling you Sister.”
“Whatever,” Lin Sui gave up trying to decide.
“Then, Suisui?” Wen Xiangzhu tilted her head, smiling brightly. “That sounds weird. Let’s stick with Sister. Sister, can you come with me to the snack shop? I’m thirsty, but I didn’t bring my phone or any cash.”
Lin Sui forced herself to ignore the nickname and handed over the drink the Omega had just delivered. “Here, have this.”
Wen Xiangzhu lowered her gaze, her eyes darkening slightly, lost in thought.
A moment later, she took the drink. “I don’t really like this kind, but Zhu Huan does. I’ll give it to her.”
Lin Sui raised an eyebrow, watching Wen Xiangzhu run over to give the drink to Zhu Huan before jogging back.
A single drink wasn’t a big deal, but… wasn’t this a little strange?
“Let’s go to the snack shop and buy something else.”
Wen Xiangzhu’s eyes crinkled with amusement, her mood visibly lifted.
Lin Sui wasn’t keen on going; she was too lazy to move.
But it was class time, and apart from the students having PE, the snack shop was mostly deserted. As a beautiful Omega, Wen Xiangzhu wasn’t someone Lin Sui felt comfortable leaving alone.
“Fine,” Lin Sui agreed.
At that moment, the snack shop was virtually empty except for the cashier and a few scattered customers.
“Pick whatever you want,” Wen Xiangzhu said, heading straight for a shelf of bottled drinks.
Lin Sui trailed behind, watching Wen Xiangzhu make her selection.
Perhaps because she’d just finished exercising, strands of hair clung to her face, her collar was slightly disheveled, and the Blocker Patch on the back of her neck was visible.
Lin Sui narrowed her eyes, then discreetly averted her gaze.
Wen Xiangzhu turned around, holding her chosen items. “I’m done.”
“Okay.”
Lin Sui glanced at her hands, which held a bottle of milk tea and a pack of cakes.
“Aren’t you hungry? Lunch is coming up soon,” Lin Sui remarked, pulling out her phone to pay at the register.
“Mm… a little. Just something to tide me over.”
Lin Sui didn’t press the matter. After leaving the snack shop, she parted ways with Wen Xiangzhu.
After class, Zhu Huan, now tired from playing, slowly walked back to the classroom with Lin Sui.
“You know, Wen Xiangzhu is surprisingly good at tennis,” Zhu Huan said, still excited.
“Tennis? I don’t know how to play,” Lin Sui said with a dismissive laugh.
“Perfect! She can teach you. It’s a great way to bond. You two are practically family anyway,” Zhu Huan teased.
Lin Sui pursed her lips. “Family? Hardly. For now, anyway. Besides, why would I bother bonding with her?”
“Tsk, ‘for now’?” Zhu Huan picked up on the key phrase, raising an eyebrow. “Is there really a chance this could change?”
“Who knows?” Lin Sui replied after a moment’s thought. “Anything’s possible.”
“Anyway, I’ve looked at Wen Wenfu from every angle, and he’s definitely up to no good.”
Zhu Huan laughed. “Alright, then you two might really end up parting ways and going your separate ways.”
She paused, then added thoughtfully, “But then again, maybe not.”
“What do you mean, ‘maybe not’?” Lin Sui asked, puzzled.
Zhu Huan slowed her pace, studying Lin Sui from head to toe. “What do you think of Wen Xiangzhu?”
Lin Sui froze, then averted her gaze. “She’s just… she’s just fine, I guess. What else is there to say?”
Hearing this, Zhu Huan looked at her for a moment, then shook her head and sighed. “Alright, I understand.”
Lin Sui: “……”
Understand what?
With only one class left before lunch, Lin Sui decided to stay awake. She’d been drowsy all morning, but at least she should try to pay attention now. Otherwise, Yang Li would call Ms. Lin, and there’d be more nagging when she got home this weekend.
Just as she sat down, Wen Xiangzhu from the row ahead turned around, holding her phone and looking serious.
Noticing the gaze, Lin Sui looked up, bewildered. “What is it?”
“Add me on WeChat. I’ll transfer the money to you.” Wen Xiangzhu pointed to her phone and added softly, “And the money for lunch.”
“No need. It’s just a small amount.”
Lin Sui lowered her head, avoiding eye contact.
Seeing this, Wen Xiangzhu pursed her lips, her cheeks flushed with a faint blush from the exertion, making her skin appear even fairer in contrast.
“I need it,” she said earnestly, staring intently at Lin Sui.
Lin Sui’s eyes darkened, feeling uncomfortable under her intense gaze.
Zhu Huan and Lu Xiaomeng watched the pair from the side, their faces carrying enigmatic smiles.
“Fine, fine.”
Lin Sui reluctantly pulled out a QR code and handed it to her.
With a beep, a friend request immediately popped up.
The profile picture was a cute white cat head, and the username read “Hidden.”
Lin Sui glanced at it, casually accepted the request, and chuckled inwardly.
What a literary username.
“I’ve transferred it. Make sure you receive it,” Wen Xiangzhu said after making the transfer on her phone.
Lin Sui acknowledged it, accepted the transfer, and silently opened the other person’s Moments feed to take a look.
The Moments feed was pristine, completely empty except for a gray line of text that read “Visible for 3 days only.”
Right, I need to change the nickname.
As Lin Sui opened “Hidden”‘s profile page and was about to change the nickname, she suddenly felt stumped.
What should I change it to?
Zhu Huan, sipping her drink, glanced at Lin Sui, who seemed frozen in place. Unable to resist, she leaned over to take a look.
“What are you doing? Someone might think you’re staring at Medusa.”
Lin Sui snapped out of her daze. “What? Stop bothering me. I’m thinking.”
“Fine, fine. Keep thinking. Really think hard. I’m going to sleep.”
“……”
Lin Sui stared at the notes page for a long time, turning it over in her mind. Something just felt off.
Not knowing what else to do, she decided to simply add Wen Xiangzhu’s name to the notes.
Later that evening, in the dormitory:
Xia Yi spoke mysteriously. “Guess what I saw today?”
“That Puffin A guy is writing an ‘encouragement piece’ for Wen Xiangzhu, saying they’ll submit it to the broadcast room for the sports meet!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Sui and Zhu Huan both let out a baffled chuckle.
People really do laugh when they’re speechless.
“If he wants to be a love-struck beta, let him! Stupid mutt…”
Xia Yi rambled endlessly about Chen Huaxing, as if trying to vent all the resentment she’d built up over the past year and a half.
Lin Sui lost interest after listening for a while and lowered her head to stare at her phone.
Her chat with Wen Xiangzhu was still stuck on the day’s transfer receipt. There was nothing new to see, and she wasn’t even sure why she was looking at it.
Just then, her phone beeped.
A new message appeared in the chat window, which had previously only contained transfer records.
Sister, sleep well! Goodnight!
Lin Sui stared at it for a moment, raised an eyebrow, and didn’t reply. Instead, she went to bed.
Yeah, it’s time to sleep.
Over the next few days, the tension between Lin Sui and Wen Xiangzhu seemed to ease somewhat.
But the atmosphere remained awkward. Lin Sui was quiet by nature, and Wen Xiangzhu had a reserved personality. Their conversations usually fizzled out after a few exchanges.
On Friday afternoon, the car sent to pick them up was already waiting outside the school.
Lin Sui and Wen Xiangzhu walked out one after the other, keeping about ten meters apart.
After they’d put some distance between themselves and the school, Wen Xiangzhu jogged to catch up with Lin Sui, who was staring down at her phone. She fell into step beside her, keeping her head lowered.
“Sister,” Wen Xiangzhu said, blinking and glancing sideways at her. “Don’t play with your phone while you’re walking. It’s bad for your eyes.”
Lin Sui shot her a mild glance. “I like looking at it.”
Wen Xiangzhu fell silent for a moment, then glanced at the screen. “Are you browsing the campus forum?”
“Mm,” Lin Sui replied, then turned off her phone.
She was reading the thread about the biggest gossip of the year.
The commenters had already guessed Wen Xiangzhu, and then followed that to guess Lin Sui.
She felt a headache coming on.
She should have listened to Zhu Huan and deleted the post…
But it was too late now. Whatever.
Let them guess. At least no one would dare to cause trouble for Wen Xiangzhu now.
After all, the girl looked so easily bullied.
As this thought crossed her mind, Lin Sui suddenly felt a pang of surprise, realizing she was actually subconsciously thinking about Wen Xiangzhu’s well-being.
With this strange feeling lingering, she got in the car with Wen Xiangzhu.
Not far from the car, a girl with a low ponytail and single-fold eyelids stood, staring in their direction, her eyes cold and unreadable.
The drive home from school was a long one.
The car door held the motion sickness pills they’d bought at the amusement park last time. Lin Sui glanced at them, then placed them beside Wen Xiangzhu.
Wen Xiangzhu froze, looking down at the pills, then back at Lin Sui, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions.
“I was worried you might get carsick. Don’t throw up in the car,” Lin Sui said, glancing at Wen Xiangzhu with a calm tone.
Wen Xiangzhu lowered her gaze, murmuring a soft “Mm,” a faint smile playing on her lips.
“Thank you, Sister.”
