After Marrying the Evil God - Chapter 27
The following afternoon, Ji Sixian returned to the Heavenly Realm to handle a backlog of matters.
Nowadays, spiritual energy is scarce in the mortal world, and the same is true for the Heavens. Many high deities have fallen into a deep slumber to preserve their strength; only a few who still possess mortal faith remain to maintain the basic operations of the Celestial Court.
“Old Ji, I heard you got married? To a human wife, no less?” A flash of red light streaked across the sky, and the God of Wealth appeared, clad in a dazzling crimson robe that looked like a burning sunset.
His robe fluttered gently in the breeze, intricately embroidered with countless golden threads as thin as silk that sparkled brilliantly. Intertwined together, these threads emitted a mesmerizing glow under the sunlight.
Ji Sixian spared him a brief glance. “How do you have the time to come here?”
“I was bored out of my mind, that’s all.” The God of Wealth made himself at home, pulling over a chair to sit. He propped his chin on his hand and studied Ji Sixian, clicking his tongue. “Not bad, not bad at all!”
Ji Sixian: “?? What’s ‘not bad’?”
“Old Ji, I didn’t expect that after getting married, you’d actually look more… human. It seems the wedding night went well. Ever thought about a honeymoon?” The God of Wealth smiled with narrowed eyes.
Ji Sixian swept a glance over him. “He still has classes.”
The God of Wealth was shocked. “While human laws might not govern us, it’s morally questionable! Old Ji, don’t you go making mistakes!”
Ji Sixian looked at him coldly. “He’s an adult. Is that the kind of person you think I am?”
“No, no,” the God of Wealth chuckled awkwardly. “I was just giving you a friendly reminder as a buddy.”
“If you’re truly that bored, you can go help your believers in the mortal realm. Their grievances have reached all the way to my doorstep recently.”
“‘If it’s in your destiny, you’ll eventually have it; if it isn’t, don’t force it.’ Fate is fixed. If I grant wealth that isn’t deserved, it will be taken back from elsewhere—that’s harming people.”
“Why did you really come to see me?”
“Something has happened,” the God of Wealth said, his expression turning solemn. His face, which usually carried a hint of a smile, was now exceptionally serious. “You must have noticed the changes in the mortal realm, right? The scale of the impact is likely far beyond our imagination.”
“The end of the sixty-year cycle is approaching. Those demons and ghosts usually hidden in the shadows are naturally getting restless.”
At this, both fell into a brief silence. After a while, the God of Wealth spoke slowly: “The Immortal Realm is no longer as glorious as it once was. Due to the dwindling spiritual energy, many powerful deities have had to slumber to preserve themselves. As a result, the strength the Celestial Court can muster to face this crisis is truly stretched thin…”
“I alone am enough,” Ji Sixian said calmly.
He spoke with total certainty and not a shred of exaggeration. After all, a so-called “Evil God” existed in the world in exactly that way. He used the malice, resentment, and various negative emotions produced by humans as the nourishment and source of his cultivation.
As long as humans existed, the Evil God could continuously draw power. His strength would not fade with time; rather, it would grow even more formidable.
However, as the saying goes, extremes meet. The Evil God could rapidly increase his power this way, but being surrounded by malice for long periods would inevitably lead to corruption.
Ji Sixian was no exception. Because he had been haunted by malice for so long, he had to split off a portion of his inner evil thoughts. To completely eliminate this malice and resentment, he had to find someone with a special fate to cultivate with—only through Dual Cultivation could he completely refine those long-accumulated grievances.
Xie Chouzhuang was that special person. Without him, Ji Sixian might have completely sealed himself away within the daily grind of resentment, his final fate unknown.
“It seems you can control yourself well now? That’s the only good news so far.”
“But they don’t know that,” Ji Sixian said meaningfully.
“I see.” Having known Ji Sixian for so long, the God of Wealth understood him instantly. “You want to go fishing?”
Ji Sixian gave a slight nod. “There are many Occultists in the mortal realm now; it won’t fall into chaos overnight. But to catch the truly big fish, we need bait. Don’t spread the word about my recovered strength—this stays between you and me.”
The God of Wealth laughed. “Wait for them to start making waves, then you appear and clean them all up. Perfect!”
“If you’re done, leave quickly!”
“Hey now, Old Ji, do you have no heart? We’ve known each other for so long, and we finally meet, but you’re kicking me out after just a few words?”
“Enough chatter. After I finish this work, I still have to go accompany my spouse.”
“Good grief,” the God of Wealth cried out in mock indignation. “You’re a guy who puts romance over friendship!”
The God of Wealth turned to leave, but then paused and handed Ji Sixian a giant gold ingot. “A wedding gift for your spouse.”
“Just one?”
“Take it or leave it!” The God of Wealth huffed, turning around to find the Old Man under the Moon to vent.
By the time Ji Sixian finished his work, it was already night. He made a trip back and placed the giant ingot on Xie Chouzhuang’s bed, carefully adjusting its position before leaving with satisfaction.
The next morning, Xie Chouzhuang woke up and reached out, only to feel a cold, heavy, golden ingot.
Next to it was a note from Ji Sixian: A wedding gift from a friend.
“Holy crap!” Shi Zhi stared open-mouthed at the giant ingot Xie Chouzhuang was holding. “Wait, is this real or fake?”
“It should be real,” Xie Chouzhuang said, examining the gold ingot in his hands.
“Chou—Chouzhuang! Where did this come from? Is the dorm haunted?” Shi Zhi’s face went pale.
He had been too distracted by the gold, but once he realized the timing, it felt wrong. Xie Chouzhuang had been normal when he went to sleep—how did he wake up with a giant gold ingot? This was way too terrifying!
Xie Chouzhuang didn’t know how to explain it for a moment.
“No, a friend sent it. It was here last night, you just didn’t notice.”
Shi Zhi was easy-going and didn’t think much of it. He leaned in with glowing eyes. “I’ve never seen such a big ingot in my life! Can I touch it?”
Xie Chouzhuang handed it to him.
Shi Zhi held the ingot excitedly. “This must be made of solid gold! How much is it worth? Heavens, Chouzhuang, take a picture of me with it! Don’t worry, I won’t show anyone else, it’s just for my own collection. In the future, if I lack motivation for work, I’ll just look at this ingot and I’ll be fully recharged!”
